Tears Falling Down Closed

Jane Victoria was sitting on the highest stair of the owlery tower, instead of heading to the great hall like many other students were they decided that they weren’t hungry and went ahead to the owlery. The owls were quite annoying but everything else was quite silent... peaceful. Out of nowhere Jay then realized that they were crying, tears fell down their chin and onto their tightly hugged knees. They couldn’t stop thinking about her... Many things reminded them of her.
The fire in the Common room
The bright pumpkins around Hogwarts
The smell of cinnamon and dead roses
Roses

And sunsets...

When will she come back? When? Jay knew that there was a high chance that she won’t come back, Jay never met her mother but from what they have heard from her, she sounded cruel and cold... Jay looked away from the sunset, they covered their eyes with their hands. They found it hard to breathe, their sobbing voice echoed in their ears, their tears were dripping all over. Jay was friendless. They were too much of an arse, and Lily was simply too nice and clueless. Jay didn’t think that there would be anyone else like her to accept Jay for who they were...

It wasn't an unusual thing for Gem to be up in the owlery, whether it be in the morning or at night, he had loads of family and friends from Sheffield to get back to. It was time consuming, but it reassured him that there were at least a few people looking out for him. He'd been up all night, clacking up some letters for his uncle, aunt and Leland, who had been very patient about receiving their letters back. School had been a bit of a weight on his shoulders, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle.

And so here he was, climbing up the steps with three neatly kept envelopes between his thumb and the rest of his fingers, humming a tune on his way up. It seemed empty, with how quiet it was - except it wasn't, a mess of green hair with their back turned to him, facing out the window of the owlery. He moved around them unsurely, getting to the school owl to lay the letters out, giving it a grateful pat on the head.

He would've normally left, but he supposed he was feeling rather talkative that day, so he made small talk while he scribbled a last minute note on the corner of the letter.

"Gd' evenin', mate, how's it rollin'?" He took a second to look up, narrowing his eyes at the androgynous face presented, just a small section of their cheek and not much else. "Waitin' for an owl back, aye?"

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Jay immediately wiped their face with their sleeves as soon as they heard him. Their mind wasn’t working so they stared cluelessly at him for a few seconds before their mind clicked back into place. The person was a first year student, and a ravenclaw... they remembered because during the sorting someone called them out- randomly- and Jay looked up just in time to see a kid run towards the ravenclaw table, his hair wasn’t forgettable, Jay remembered thinking at the time... his hair looks like a soft  brown thing resting on his head that was outgrown... Just then they realized something, why would he even say hello to them? Who says how’s it rollin’ to a person sobbing? Jay sniffed and replied,
I’m very much f-f-fi-fine,” their voice was serious until it cracked into what sounded like a dying horse at the word fine, which was quite ironic... “a-and no I-I am n-n-not” they said looking at him. The lump in their throat was still there. The sudden thought about what happened last year in the owlery popped into their head, they missed him, they missed so many people... their unknown parents, her, him, the feeling of happiness. Jay quickly turned their face away as they let a few tears fall.

You must think I’m pathetic...
