Aida was a claustrophobe. There was simply nothing the white wix hated more than being confined. Yet, over the years, it seemed that people never got over spells that confined movement. On the contrary, the spells only became more advanced, used to make Aida's worst case scenario a reality.
“Ughh.... Why is it always like this. Is this funny to people? Gah...”
If Evelynn could sense anything about Aida's mind, it would yet again be the animal fear of being enclosed, paired with visions of a horse bashing at the walls of a narrow stall.

Galton knew his team to be quick and effective, but he never thought they would be that quick and effective. Or maybe it the the Birds’ nerves? Letting his ego run wild he would surmise that, in their shoes, up against the dazzling G.E.M. before them, he too would be too scared to move. Whatever the cause may be, Galton was not going to complain.
Their spells had gone off perfectly. The year of practice and partnership had shown its fruits. His partners had vocalized both of the thoughts he’d had, the split between concern and satisfaction. So he’d choose to keep his mouth shut and focus on his next cast.

Sometimes duels did not quite go the way you hoped. It happened. Unfortunately, it happened more often when the matchups were unbalanced -- at least on parchment. Such was the unfortunate way in which the school decided who duelled who. Cassius was accustomed at this point to imbalance but all he could do was play with the cards he was dealt. Strong character is built from adversity, not breezing one's way through every conflict. He endeavored to ever become stronger from that adversity.

With nothing to do but struggle against the magic holding their bodies in place, Aida and Cassius pushed against the power of Evelynn’s spell. Unfortunately, their talents laid more in casting spells than anything requiring the use of their strength. Both found that they were too weak to break free from the paralysis, and the cords around Aida’s arms tightened, causing some discomfort. Pyxis grimaced as their efforts yielded no results, but he was thankful to see that they had returned to the present. The same couldn’t be said for Damion, who Pyxis thought would do something to protect himself seeing as both his teammates were off-limits to the lions as per the rules of the sport.
Galton went the route that the Slytherin was expecting, sending a ball of fire towards the floor where Damion was standing, but his aim was off and the Ravenclaw felt the impact of sharp splinters from the piste instead of an explosion. Meenauh and Evelynn took the time to breathe, giving themselves an even bigger advantage for later in the match. Meenauh summoned gold mist around Damion who felt the piste peel away from him as if he was standing on no floor at all. Evelynn turned her wand towards her own teammate, waving it over Meenauh who suddenly gained more confidence than she was probably already feeling. Pyxis wondered how destructive the next round of spells was going to be.

Aida never spent much time becoming physically strong despite the horror of being bound up. The claustrophobia never went away and yet there was always too much to do to focus on working out. The wilds themselves offered endurance training mostly, so Aida was mostly counting on dodging spells like this... And suffering through the moments of occasional failure.

The two person were still struggling. The third Ravenclaw was not doing anything, but dodging Galton's spell. While Meenauh went for some control against Damion, Evelynn did just what Meenauh was thinking of, proving all the practice sessions were paying off. She bowed to her lion friend and returned gracefully to her fighting stance. And readied herself.

| xxx | As soon as the bind secured themselves around the two Eagles, Evelynn's vision hazed somewhat. For a few breaths, the action of the piste and the sounds of her teammates faded into the background as the image of a horse, frightened and agitated, bashed against a narrow stall. The sound of its hooves striking relentlessly against the wood echoed through her thoughts, temporarily drowning out the sounds of the spectators around her. With it, fear. For those few moments, it felt as though the world were pressing in on her, constricting, cutting off-- Her sights cleared, the vision passing as swiftly as it came. It took her a moment to reorient herself, and in the interim, she defaulted to casting a bit of a supporting charm upon Silmataurea until she could determine the next best course of action. It had been a little while since she'd caught the feelings of another, but in this case, it wasn't hard to guess that it had come from one of the two struggling in their binds. Her binds. Lips crimped as she regarded the two helpless individuals, a pang of regret bittering her tongue. Duelling could be quite an unflattering sport at times. She almost felt badly for their positions. Unfortunately, it was what it was. She had no intention of pulling punches. Her team was aching for another win, and she had a personal record to balance with nearly all of their opponents. Things were just getting started. |

Being paralyzed during a duel had the odd benefit of permitting one to ponder other things. The likely overcast Scottish sky. His dinner plans for later. Even his patrol by the Great Lake where he no doubt would find irresponsible first years attempting to take a forbidden swim. It was a rite of passage, after all, and one he somewhat turned a blind eye to. Better to get that away-from-home rebellious period over quickly rather than have it rear its ugly head during their later years. Besides, they were young and stupid and if the giant squid or merfolk or whatever other creatures were in the lake took them, then oh well. Swimming is forbidden for a reason. Of course, he would help them if he could but it was a big lake and he was but one person.

Damion seemed to be frozen something he was thinking way too much for anything to happen. He glanced at his team and nodded his head as if telling them he was going to better now and not freeze again. He smiled as he held his wand tighter in his hand.

He'd missed. No matter how much one seemed to practice you never knew how you'd handle yourself in a proper match. And that was not the finesse he expected from himself. Certainly not for his final duel.
Luckily, his teammates had succeeded in their spells. It was easy to view one's failure as the singular event of importance, but this was a team sport. His failure would hopefully not be too big an issue. All he could do was steel oneself for the bouts to come.
