Brielle whacked Aphrodite in the back of the head with a glare. That was certainly the last time she told her anything. Though, turning back to Gem, she nodded with a small smile. "So maybe I talk about you.. Though that's beside the point. The point is that you're my boyfriend, and we're here together." She said, hooking her arm in his.
Her thoughts were soon interrupted by the sound of a familiar voice, the word firsties causing her to turn her head. It had been Maggie Parker, a rather pretty second year. She almost gasped right there from how nice she looked. Bloody hell, Grayson must be having a nosebleed right now.. She murmured to herself, grasping everything in her to not giggle.
"Yes, the pumpkin kid is quite amazing." Brielle replied with a nod, waving goodbye to Maggie as she left to go hang out with a few others. She watched as she threw an arm around Pierre, and she could help but laugh. His costume was sick though, that was for sure.
As she was introduced to James by Gem, she took the small handshake with a smile and laughed. "He told me he'd give me a cauldron full of galleons if I agreed to date him." She said with a grin, nudging him a small bit to show she was joking.

James flashed a smile back at Brielle, glad that she’d run with the joke. She seemed like fun, and James figured Gem needed a little bit of fun in his life.
“Damn the old cauldron full of galleons move...” he said, “I should’ve tried that. I knew there was a reason I couldn’t get a date to this thing.”
His mask started to slide down his nose and he pushed it back up, fiddling a little nervously with the string.
“So, what’s your deal Brielle? You grow up with these magic types or... I don’t know is that an insensitive question to ask? I’m honestly still kinda new at this. Well, I’m twelve so to be fair I’m sort of new at everything. Well not everything... I’ve been like... walking... for... ages— ah- um,” he scratched the back of his head, “Anybody - tried the punch?”
He scooped some of the strange liquid into a cup and took a sip. It tasted like the special iced-tea with soda his mum used to make on the one hot day a year on Summer break. It filled him with an aching sense of nostalgia and homesickness. Another sip and suddenly the flavour changed to a Milkshake with extra malt, a specialty of his Grandfather’s.
“Oh man, I love magic,” he said with a grin

Mentions @Gem Stuart @Aphrodite Bloom @James McMurtrie @Maggie ParkerThe ball. He was going to the ball with Maggie Parker. No pressure or anything. She was just a girl, an extremely pretty, extremely smart girl. Again, no pressure if you mess this up..
Honestly, he didn't know how it happened. First they were just dance partners in class, nothing big.. And then he asked her to the ball? Points to Gryffindor for having one of the most dense students of all time. He supposed he had some charm though, for being able to win her over. So perhaps he isn't that bad after all?
Whatever, all he knew was that he had to look his best, and most defiantly not make a fool of himself. God, what had gotten into him? He's never like this, better yet, never like this over a girl. So what was his deal? Maybe there was something special about her, maybe.. nevermind.
He was dressed in a sleek black and crimson suit, his mask a dark velvety shade, hoping to have matched her attire as well.
As he walked into the Ballroom, his mask covering practically half his vision, he spotted Brielle with that Aphrodite girl. He couldn't get over how cool her hair was.. makes him think if he could ever do anything that bold.
As he approached her, he also noticed she was with a few other guys. Her arm was hooked in his, so he was left to assume that was the boy she had been rambling on about. If he was being honest, this guy wasn't the worst choice. He looked like he meant well, and that's all it really mattered to him.
As he looked over at Brielle, he smiled at her. "Wicked dress! I'm really loving the whole pink and green scheme." He complimented, adjusting his own suit. "Hey, have you seen Maggie? She's kind of my date and I don't have a clue where she is." He said uncomfortably, as if he failed in the first five minutes of being there.

A laugh came from underneath the mask as he heard the comment about his outfit. Glacing towards her, Jack caught sight of her rather elegant silver and white outfit.
"Well, I chose this mask because I figured that people would be watching if I did take it off. But truth potion? I bet that made for an interesting night!" He replied. If that was the type of high-jinx to be expected for the night, Jack couldn't wait. "Do you think something similar is going to happen tonight?" He asks, as he slightly tilted his head at her comment about the tea.
Idly, the boy reached for a cup. Looking down at the contents of the cup. It didn't seem like anything special. For now, he just held onto the cup. "By the way, I like your outfit. You are looking very regal." Jack comments, adding a little bit of emphasis to the word 'regal'. Finally, he raised his left hand and took hold of his mask's beak. Lifting it up higher on his face, he gave himself just enough room to take a sip of his drink. His lips were clearly curling upwards into a smirk from under his face obscuring facade.

Wow. Gosh, did every British person in the place have to stare at the Ilvermorny students in that "who are these pieces of dirt?" sort of stuck-up way? Seriously, Phyllis was starting to wonder if they'd meant 'Masked Staring Contest' instead of 'Masked Ball'. The redhead was tempted to give a condescending glare back, because geez, she'd actually been a Brit originally and even now she was technically Canadian.Roleplaying as dNPC Phylicia Stanwood || Interacting with @Thora Larkston (Karilyna Kawahara) and @Teiki Laurent (Astrid Kovac) || Mentions @Jake Morris || Open to Interactions!
This and that aside, she decided whoever was going to look at her like that wasn't worth the effort it'd take to glare back. As she watched though, part of that 'ball' aspect seemed to show up. Apparently a good portion of people had bothered with a date. Phyllis had no doubt that she'd have just as much fun with her friend. That is, if she didn't see anything that started her down a progression something like: gag. Puke. Run away screaming. Hide in a hole, scarred for life.
Just then, a voice she recognized piped up from behind them. Astrid! Phyllis spun around with a smile on her face. It looked like she might be spending this event with not one but two friends.
"Hey Astrid! Yeah, it's hard to tell who's who. I like your outfit, by the way. Sorry, I'm not well-versed with Muggle stuff--is it like a costume? Or is the robe/hoodie thing just for flair. It's cool either way. I wished I'd worn a costume. Pumpkin dude's getting all the attention. Oh, I could've been a phoenix! I wish I'd thought of that before, although I dunno how I would've made the costume…"
The Thunderbird trailed off, realizing she'd been ranting. Not like she actually cared, but still. So, what to do? Karilyna'd mentioned stalking people, eating, or pranking, and Phyllis liked all three.
"What'd'ya say we head over, grab some punch and sweets, watch people be idiots, and maybe plan a prank that won't get us kicked out?"

With Oliver's apparent crush on her and the awkward conversations about what being Part-Veela might mean, Dymphna felt more insecure about her looks than ever before. It seemed like third year would be a year of trying to ignore any staring or obvious pining. Rosie was only being nice with the compliment because that's how Rosie was, so she didn't think too much about it. The Hufflepuff wouldn't know that it was a sore spot for her. Besides, it was definitely said out of love rather than in a jealous way, something else that her family warned her against. She didn't know what she would do if her friends all of the sudden hated her for something she couldn't control.
"Thanks. It's impressive that you made your own mask." With a creative friend like Rosie, she should've asked for help to jazz up her own simple mask. Oh well. It would do. Before she could figure out if she wanted a drink, a snack or to mingle with some others, red hair peeked over Rosie's shoulder. More like he bent down so he could speak directly in her ear. It made Dymphna blush and her eyebrows shot up at the endearment. Were they a couple? If they weren't, it seemed like it or was Quinn this suave to all the girls? "Nice to see you again," Dymph replied, holding out her hand for a shake.
She had met her fellow Irishman very briefly during their first year of Hogwarts. Since then, she mostly saw him around the Great Hall or in the corridors. Being quite tall, he was hard to miss. Even in heels, she didn't reach his height (only being 5'5 herself). Now that Rosie's date had arrived, she didn't think it polite to stick around. "I hope you two have a good time. I'll see you around, yeah?" Her tone wasn't sad upon leaving them, rather it was a happy one that Rosie had found someone to spend her time with. Especially if it was in a romantic sense. She would have to remember to ask the girl later.
The food table would be her first stop.

The Masquerade Ball

i'm coming up so this party better be hella started
Holloween was Dorothy's time. Her absolute utter moment of triumph, indisputable regality, and overall freedom of spirit. You see, on Holloween, Dorothy didn't have to be Dorothy. She could choose to take the form of whatever creature or person she chose. Today, she was a dementor. It seemed appropriate, she felt she often sucked the joy out of most people and events (completely by accident of course). Her costume was the perfect mix between dressiness, and spookiness, causing an obvious lack of pale-skin-scary-mouth-clawed-hands-dementor-ness. Nevertheless, she was a dementor and a pretty convincing one in her thirteen-year-old opinion.
Getting ready for the party had taken roughly an hour. She had pre-ordered her dress, of course, so it was delivered by a scrawny owl 30 minutes before her debut at the ball. So, she had completed her makeup look first. This required a re-con mission in the Hufflepuff girl's dorm. Dorothy had no makeup of her own, but she knew someone who did.
Dinara.
It hadn't been difficult stealing the other prefect's makeup at all, surprisingly. The girl had been in the bathroom applying a mask, probably to get her complexion ready for the dance. Dorothy had simply opened her trunk and grabbed out the first pallet in sight, a dusty MAC case filled with various shades of burgundy, beige, gray, and black. There were quite a few rubs and chips in the lighter shades of burgundy, but none in the duller tones. Dinara liked her purples, apparently. Dorothy hadn't felt the need to grab any brushes, so she applied the smokey black eyeshadow with her index finger, leaving a dark stain on her hands that she wouldn't bother to remove.
The eyeshadow was spread on thickly and with little precision. Thanks to hand-eye coordination, the black powder was confined to areas only around Dorothy's hazel orbs. It faded in vein-like splotches near the edges of her eyelids, which was one of the best mistakes Dorothy made. A few tiny glitter stars stuck on with a tube of Elmers found by another girl's bed completed her dementor eye look. A thin coat of vaseline on her lips completed her makeup.
Dorothy's outfit had been carefully planned to clearly represent her as a dementor. Of course, seeing as she'd put on her makeup first, pulling the dress and hood over her head caused her eyeshadow to smudge a bit. Whatever, it added to the effect. Her wispy, flowing black gown was obviously standing in for the tattered, floating strips of a dementor's robe, right? The soft hood that awkwardly covered part of her dress sleeves would act as the dementor's hood, while the lovely stone necklace around her neck represented whoever's soul she had just sucked out with her face. She had stolen a pair of dirty black converse from her muggle-step-grandmother over the summer, and these now covered two pink-sock-clad feet.
Her mask had been accomplished by cutting a piece of black lace and sewing it to a black satin ribbon. It was decently comfortable, though her eyelashes brushed against it when she blinked which was annoying. Long, straight, feathery blond hair framed Dorothy's face, while small black rubber bands tied her bangs up from her forehead in tiny rows. Her black-tipped fingers, curtesy of the eyeshadow, completed her fabulous costume and truly made her proud. Now, she sauntered towards the ballroom in what she thought to be a model-esque walk.
BOOM! Dorothy nearly tripped over her own feet, slamming the already open door into the wall behind it in an effort to catch herself. As the sound reverberated throughout the room, her instinct to look good jerked her into an upright, collected, position, before anyone could see her mistake. She sidestepped to the right of the entrance and had to swerve sharply to avoid knocking into a familiar-looking brunette. It took Dorothy a moment to realize that the girl she almost ran into was Eris Fawley. Though they had met on a few occasions, they hadn't really been acquainted with each other.
Beside Eris stood a tall and slightly familiar looking boy who's name had slipped from Dorothy's mind, had she ever heard it. Something was odd about Eris, and it took Dorothy another couple seconds to realize what exactly that was. Eris was nearly as tall as her. True, Eris was wearing heels while Dorothy donned the black converse, but usually, Eris was shorter than Dorothy even with added inches. Which meant she had used her metamorphmagus abilities to reach her stature. Lucky. Dorothy waved hesitantly towards Eris and her date. "Hey-y Eris! Lovely dress, and you look so tall." She flushed crimson. Wait, were they supposed to bring dates? Would she get kicked out if she didn't have one?
A glance around the room while awaiting Eris's reply allowed Dorothy to take in her surroundings. The ballroom was decorated beautifully with amber tones that reflected the spirit of autumn. Students of every age wandered the room while others danced jerkily to the orchestra. The refreshments table was milling with hungry prepubescent Brits and Americans. Dorothy definitely wanted to talk to an American before the night was up.
She turned back to Eris, hopeful for a quick response that would allow her to freely wander the room and find other people she somewhat knew. Nothing would go wrong tonight.
Nothing.

interacting w/ @Jack Warren | @Kaegen Deathmote─────────────────Something similar, oh Aurelia hoped that if anything was to go wrong it would be something as minor as Veritaserum punch not burning tables or kidnappings. With the boy’s statement, Aurelia came to a conclusion that she was speaking to none but a first year. If he were otherwise, he would have known about what happened last year and perhaps the year before. She had thought he’d be older by the fact that he was already almost her height, save for the heels that gave her general height a few inches of an advantage.
“An interesting night is another way to describe it.” Aurelia said with a small sigh. The night of the blossom ball was a traumatic one, to say the least, and she would rather not elaborate more. It wasn’t just the punch. Thankfully, the conversation did not revolve around that dreadful topic as the boy complimented on her outfit.
“Why, thank you. Your suit looks dashing as well.” She reciprocated the remark. At least this boy had manners, unlike a handful she had encountered over her two years in Hogwarts. Aurelia’s assumptions were that he was a pureblood, of course, she didn’t know the boy under he mask any better.
However, the lively mood she adorned would not last much longer. By one of the many tables stood another boy, one that she was all too familiar with, Kaegen Deathmote. The corners of Aurelia’s lips twisted in a displeased frown. Unlike others around him, Kaegen’s identity was not concealed by a mask nor was he dressed at all for the occasion. The episode in the abandoned bathrooms was still vivid in Aurelia’s memories. That afternoon, Kaegen nearly killed her with a spell and Aurelia could not believe that he still had the right to step into the school of Hogwarts.
“Would you mind accompanying me for a minute to... um... confront someone?” Aurelia asked the boy whom she only just met and had not even gotten his name. Regardless of what the boy’s answer was, her hand grasped his arm and if he did not resist, she would advance towards Kaegen. It was unlikely that the monstrous boy (Kaegen) would dare to cast another diffindo at her given the number of people around but Aurelia still needed some backup. Although she would not admit, there was something, perhaps everything, about Kaegen that was rather unsettling and it intimidated her.
“You aren’t here to stab someone are you?” She asked the Ravenclaw spitefully. Most likely, the boy wouldn’t recognise her since the mask covered more than half her face.

There was a lack of enthusiasm in his stride that caused him to lag beside other students on their way to the ball. Parties were fun right? But in his three years at Hogwarts, he knew one thing, they went wrong. Someone just had to ruin it and he wasn't ready to get hurt for someone else's folly. So he came with closed fists and an unholy pair of Chuck Taylors that he always wore for running, but knowing him, he was probably running towards trouble anyway. Interacting with @Eris Fawley, @Adam Harringtom, and @Dorothy Shafiq. Open to other interactions.
Plus he didn't like how shiny his dress shoes were, he was going to be too concerned with making sure they weren't scuffed. They sat under his bed, collecting dust and probably will till he realizes in a few months that he forgot to return them. His uncle had given him a white tuxedo, but he was concerned with getting food on it as well, maybe he should've worn a plastic bag over his attire.
Their conversation over the owl was extensive, the boy asked that he only get something that was simple. Under-dressing was still a new concept in his mind. But it suited him well, it fit him perfectly and didn't look oversized, the cuffs came at just the right length and so did his pants. But the mask on his face felt weird to have, he wasn't a fan of it and it vaguely conjured up memories of the incident two years ago.
Reid came with no one in mind, the part of asking someone beforehand never came to mind. He was too wrapped up in Quidditch to properly think about the masquerade and get a date, otherwise he would've asked. Distracted by the glittering gold, he nearly bumped into Dorothy fast approaching a couple he just passed.
"Oop - sorry." he apologized, glancing back. But a few seconds of looking at who she was going to, he realized that the couple was Eris and Adam. His hand shot up from his pocket, "A - hey!" He was familiar with the two and found them easy to talk to. Maybe a good start will help him loosen up. So he followed after Dorothy to greet them. "You lot look fantastic." He did a quick head count from the corner of his eye, some people were more recognizable than others, but his eyes landed on an ironclad man on one part of the room.
Was that armor and a sword? It was too hard to tell who the man was, but he questioned why the man needed to arm himself in the first place. His wand was tucked in an inner fold of his jacket, but he was most likely going to neglect it and use his hands anyway.

The Masquerade Ball
@Brielle Gray, @Grayson Ackley, @James McMurtrie & @Aphrodite Bloom
Gem felt a faint smile come onto his lips when Brielle locked arms with him, one that seemed sort of uncontrollable. He pretended it wasn't there for a moment, looking around at the people surrounding him, the amount that was growing. He felt nervous, speaking to more than one person at once, but he felt like it could be done very easily. He was sure to recharge the night before by not talking to very much of anyone, it seemed to be working.
His head perked up at the Galleon joke, lightly nudging her shoulder right back. He wondered why James looked so surprised... surprised but proud, it seemed. He felt very pleased about that, having a bit of attention put on him. He looked up when he heard another person's voice, a young man with golden blonde hair, blue eyes - was this Grayson? Brielle must've mentioned him a few times.
"Maggie? Naw, mate. Sorreh about tha'." He stood on his toes, looking around the crowd to see if he could catch a glimpse of the second year anywhere. No luck. He frowned, shrugging his shoulders like there was just about nothing that could be done. "Ya could stick around us until ya see 'er around?" It was a weak offer, but he didn't feel like losing his spot, nor did he feel like elbowing around people to look for a girl that may or may not have been there yet.
That said, without much else to do, he got himself a scoop of punch, sipping on it with an eyebrow raise. His mam's special tea.He felt his face go through about six emotions at once, happiness, above all. "Hm, it really is sumfin' else, innit?" He offered the cup to Brielle, looking behind him when he heard someone shuffle behind him. And then, he very suddenly felt like he should've said hi to... he wondered where she'd been off to.
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.
