The Masquerade Ball
Interacting with @Asteria Kurokawa
Eugenia liked big crowds of people. They gave her the freedom of doing whatever she wanted, whether that was socializing or sitting quietly in a corner and going unnoticed. Eugenia liked observing people as much as she liked talking to them, and a party - such as this one - was the perfect place to do both. Needless to say, the ball intrigued her.
However, the idea of having to wear a fancy dress and put more effort into her appearance than usual made her reluctant to attend. There were so many others that were genuinely excited about the glamorous outfits and elegant masks, but Eugenia couldn’t relate to that feeling. Everything was just a little too much for her. Still, the thought of seeing everyone in ridiculous dresses and suits wasn’t a terrible one.
As she entered the ballroom, Eugenia immediately decided that she had made the right choice. The hall had been beautifully decorated with flowers, the shades of red and orange making the place look more festive. A warm light illuminated the ballroom, giving the large, crowded space a comfortable feel to it. As she looked around, Eugenia noticed the portraits that hung on the walls, some of them silently watching the hall and others talking merrily to their neighbors.
There were, as she had expected, some very extravagant outfits and Eugenia wondered how anyone felt comfortable in such clothes. She was quite happy with the plain - but beautiful - dress and simple mask she had chosen. They were much more grand than anything she was used to, but the event had called for something less ordinary.
Eugenia had already managed to spot the drinks table and was making her way towards it. As she helped herself to one of the glasses, a girl caught her attention. She seemed to be observing everyone much in the same way that Eugenia had been, although her look held something else that Eugenia failed to recognize.
The girl’s outfit was much more simple than many of the others, and it only added to Eugenia’s already-growing curiosity. Who was this masked stranger? The thought sounded so funny that it forced a smile onto Eugenia’s face. She couldn’t recall ever thinking anything quite as cliché, although she had never had many opportunities to think such thoughts in the first place.
“Are you waiting for someone?” Eugenia asked, deciding to find out more about this stranger by starting a conversation.

Interacting as approved dNPC Iris Fields
Iris had spent the last quarter of an hour rushing to get ready. Earlier that day she had done up her hair in an extravagant braided bun her friend- Alyssa- had taught her to do and placed a pearl clip on the back. She donned on a deep purple knee-length dress, peacock feather earrings, and to finish the look- sliver flats. The dress was given to her from her mother, it had been her sisters when she was my years few years ago. She almost forgot her mask in her rush to get ready. The extravagant purple peacock mask found its way to her face just in time. She didn't bother using any make-up because she was already late.
The Thunderbird raced down the halls careful to not be too loud. Not to her surprise, no one was in the halls. She slowed down once she was close enough to the ballroom to hear music. She took a breath to calm herself before entering. The place was transformed; not that she had seen it before, but it looked amazing.
She slowly walked to the snack table in the back and took a cup. She sniffed the colorless liquid and took a tentative sip. It tasted just like frothy butterbeer, her favorite. She was slightly puzzled then she remembered learning about a liquid that tasted like ones favorite drink. She smiled and took the cup with her.
Iris was glad she wore the light dress- for it was beginning to be really hot in the room. She found a vacant spot and stood deciding whom she would introduce herself to. The room was very extravagant and the band playing music somewhat surprised her. She was surprised by the fact that she hardly recognized anyone- mostly from the fact that everyone was wearing masks and partly because she hadn't met that many people.
The girl allowed herself to smile and attempted to make eye-contact with someone in order to meet them.

It was that time of year again. His number one favorite day of the year...Halloween otherwise known as the day of his birth. Spooky and fitting all things considered, kind of ironic too. Most of all he was attending the ball for the first time ever. He would be easy to spot which under normal circumstances was fine. But today was anything but normal considering the events of the last few months were related in various ways to this specific day. Mainly because of who some of those events relate to. Yes he was referring to the disturbed Erin Ryan rubbed him the wrong way. He got her letter, and he knew for a fact it was damned lie. A trap some would even venture to say. It was so...cringey. Like super Cringey that it had to be fake.
He was a bit later then he would prefer, but the now teenager needed to make sure he looked more then just presentable on that night. Taking more time then his mother he donned his custom suit he begged his grandfather for and donned the mask he had specially picked out. Everything was flawless for him his hair carefully and tightly slicked back. Similar to the hairy style of the Phantom from Phantom of the Opera. At last after making his way through the changing stairways he arrived at the ballroom. Before entering he closed his eyes to calm himself down and steel himself.
Tonight would be perfect and he had someone to impress. Opening his eyes again, Quinn walked in puffing his chest out slightly stretching the fabric of his suit only barely. The suit fit like a glove on him like it was meant for him. Outlining his broad but lean frame. He wasn't exactly husky but he was by no means skinny either. Immediately as he entered the room he began to scan the room for one little Hufflepuff in particular.
Quinn stuck out like a sore thumb. Towering over basically every single person in the room even the adults. A wry playful smile upon his lips. It didn't take him long to spot who he was looking for. Carefully Quinn weaved his way around and through the crowd in a way one would not expect for someone of his size. He kept scanning managing to point out someone who he almost didn't recognize. Dread filled him as his smile dropped a bit. She was a bit further away but he recognized the daunting little eijit. Erin Ryan.
He rolled his shoulders back broadening them and looking bigger as he appeared behind two students. Smirking he decided to go for something a bit smoother. He bent down leaning forward till his large pointed chin was over the person's shoulder. "Good evenin mo lómhar. Hope I didn't keep you waiting for long." His voice was deep but also soft and genuine. He was rather happy and at peace for a change. One arm folded behind his back while the other was pressed across his chest with his hand over his heart. It was a formal bow. He raised back up a wry smile strewn across his face. "Miss me?" He then performed a bow for the person next to Rosie. His father may have been a little less then loving to him, but he always taught him how to act like a proper gentleman. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Chris wasn't looking forward to the idea of attending a ball in Hogwarts, one of the reasons being he wasn't the type of person to dance as well as the reminder that the students almost burned the whole thing down last time. Luckily for him, he wasn't one of the attendees at the time. The ball was a high point in Hogwarts calendar, everyone in the school joined in on the so called fun and danced the night away. This time, some American students had come over to experience the event. He still wasn't sure on what to make of them, every time a group of them passed him in the corridor they were always loud and unappreciative of what Hogwarts had to offer, maybe this evening could sway him in their favour.
The Slytherin had dressed in his finest clothing for this event, as well as select a mask that best symbolised his identity. He wore a sharp black suit along with a tie to make himself look smart, his hair was styled differently to what it normally was, with it being gelled back and slightly messy. The mask was something different to his other clothing, it was entirely green and covered in what appeared to be green leafs, something which symbolised his native country well.
Eventually, the boy arrived to the front of the balls entrance. Inside was spacious and lively with fancy dressed people, each one having their own design and meaning. He slowly walked into the hall and looked around him, taking in the atmosphere around that filled the hall tonight. Suddenly, something orange caught his eye. A pupil from across the room had the bright idea of dressing up as a pumpkin, a design so bizarre it almost made him look twice through his half masquerade mask. With a slow shake of his head he continued onward to the snack table, where he grabbed a cup and served himself a nice cold cup of juice.
There was one thing for certain, tonight was going to be a really slow or something which pleasantly surprised him. All he had to do was ride it out and see where it lead him...

in which maggie parker goes on a date with grayson ackley and leaves... well, you'll see.Maggie had always been a fan of parties. This was no exception. The moment she stepped into the luxurious and elegant room, a smile had began to tug on the corners of her lips. It had creamy white color scheme, along with flowers and greenery littering the humongous space. Lights hung from the ceiling, and the room had a warm, inviting atmosphere. Maggie loved it.
She wore a red dress that had a sweetheart neckline and reached her mid-thigh. Her hair was wavy as usual, and she didn’t bother doing anything about it. She didn’t wear any actual makeup, but she’d used her powers to make her cheeks a little redder and her eyelashes a little fuller. She had on dark red vans, and a dainty gold necklace hung around her neck. She wore her mask, which was gold and covered her eye-area.
She’d arrived with Charlotte and Millie, who were both wearing absolutely stunning dresses. The trio had been in awe of the room as soon as they stepped in, and Maggie immediately began to scan the room for some familiar faces.
She knew Erin Ryan, as she’d gotten into a fistfight with her earlier that year, and she knew Dale, of course. A boy in a pumpkin costume stood out to her, and she found herself taking a particular liking towards Dymphna Teague’s dress. She recognized Koko Riddle, who wore a pretty green dress and had her hair done nicely.
She also spotted Brielle Gray and Aphrodite Bloom, who stood with Gem, who'd been at Maggie's movie party. Deciding it'd be a good idea to stop by and say hi, she turned to Charlotte and Millie, walking backwards as she spoke.
"I'm off to make my rounds. I'll catch up with you soon, yeah? Make sure to tell me how bad of a dancer Carson is, too." Maggie laughed, waving and walking over towards the trio, who were talking amongst eachother. She didn't know any of them that well, but she knew them enough to feel obligated to stop by.
"Hey, firsties." Maggie laughed, tapping her foot on the ground as she spoke to them. Brielle wore a floor-length blue and pink ballgown, along with really pretty matching makeup. Gem had showed up in a red turtleneck, which was almost the same color as Maggie's dress, and a leather jacket, while Aphrodite had arrived in a pretty white dress that looked kinda old-timey.
"I felt like I should stop by and say hi, congratulate you on how good y'all look." she complemented, a smile dancing across her face. "Of course, none of you can beat the kid in the pumpkin costume, but still." she joked, nodding towards the boy in question. "I'll see you guys around, maybe?"
She'd spotted Dan, Pierre, and a few others she knew, or at least bumped into once or twice, talking in a group. She walked over, waving at Dan and Pierre as she did.
"Awee, look at my little Pierre!" she cooed, trying her best to embarrass him. She wrapped an arm around his shoulder, leaning back to look through the eye-holes to make sure that it was really Pierre, because if not, well, that would be embarrassing.
The Joker costume in itself was a dead giveaway, though, and her suspicions were confirmed when she spotted his bright green eyes. She would've been confused trying to tell the difference between Dan and Pierre, since they both had messy brown hair, but Dan's absence of shoes made it obvious about who was who. Only Dan Palmer would show up to a party barefoot.
"You guys look amazing!" Maggie said, smiling at them all. "Especially you, pumpkin kid."

The Masquerade Ball

James wrestled on a wrinkled black dress shirt, the formal thing wasn’t exactly his style. He’d sat on the end of his four poster internally debating whether or not a plain t-shirt might be acceptable attire for a masquerade ball. Though he imagined the look of horror on his Mum’s face if she’d known he’d even considered such a thing. He also wriggled into a pair of brown chinos that passed the smell check and did his best to smooth down his erratic hair. He didn’t have any shoes more formal than his school shoes, so he elected to wear those. The final touch was a simple black mask from a craft shop in the High Street his mum had sent him.
When James finally entered the hall (late as was usual) he felt his face go a deep crimson under his mask. Elegant dresses, peacocking, gold trimmed suits, finally tailored dress shirts. The Ilvermorny and Hogwarts students looked like an extravagant runway show from Milan, and suddenly the scared twelve-year-Old in an unironed shirt felt painfully inadequate. He desperately scanned the crowd for a friend for whom to cling.
He noticed Gem, standing speaking to a girl he didn’t know, thankfully dressed in something other than a suit. James made a beeline toward his friend, trying not draw any attention from the elegant party guests.
“Ah- is it just me or did you not expect so many kids to own fancy suits.... like what the hell I feel like I’m dressed to go to a staff meeting at Google and everyone else got an invitation to meet the bloody Queen.”

The Masquerade Ball
Rhea hadn't planned on coming to the ball. The obvious reason being because every single school-hosted ball she'd attended had ended badly. Another reason was because she was still scared to show her face to society given what had happened over the summer. Not that anyone would bring it up to her face, but Rhea didn't want to deal with all the judgmental looks or pitiful glances of those who knew. But that was a minor reason, one that Rhea could easily push past and just ignore. The main reason was because she had no one to go with, and she didn't wanna show up to the ball all alone.open to interactions!
Sure, she had friends, but they'd all gotten dates or something. And there was no way in hell she wanted to third wheel. It would make for an awful night, and Rhea definitely didn't wanna deal with being the third wheel all along. So up until two hours before the ball, Rhea had been laying in her bed, reading. But when her roommates had started to get ready for the ball and began to leave for the masquerade ball, Rhea decided to do so as well. Even if there was no one for her to dance with, or to be her... date, she could still have fun, right? It's not like she wanted a date anyway. What good did they do, other than take up time and money?
Besides, she was bored. Rhea had nothing better to do other than get ready and ultimately show up - and hey, maybe she'd meet some new people? She'd heard that Americans had infiltrated Hogwarts, and they couldn't all be bad, right? So, Rhea began to get ready. It had always been one of her favorite past times, getting all dressed up. That was one of the only things that made all those dinner parties even mildly tolerable.
While in prior years Rhea would go all out for these types of events, for this she kept it simple. She didn't have the willpower to go as crazy as she usually would. Her dress was very simple, a white summer dress with a pattern of flowers spread all over it. It was tight around her torso, but the skirt very flew. It had a moderately deep neckline, and sleeves that reached her elbow. It didn't feel like a ballgown, nor did it look like one - which fit Rhea's mood perfectly. One might say it was too casual for the event, but Rhea didn't really care. It was one of her favorite dresses, and now was the perfect opportunity to wear it.
The shoes she picked out were definitely the best part of her outfit. While she was at Aida's, the last week of summer, she'd gone shopping in the nearby Muggle town. Nothing seemed to catch her attention - except for these shoes. She'd seen them in the window and had immediately become enamored with them. With all the money she'd saved up over the summer, Rhea had gone into the shop and asked to buy them. Yes, they were expensive, but definitely worth it. Likewise with the dress, the blonde hadn't gotten the opportunity to wear them yet. So this ball was the perfect opportunity to do so. They resembled white sneakers, but the only thing that made them difference was their chunkiness and the fact they were heeled. They gave Rhea an extra 3 inches, making her a whole 160 cm (5'3"). The idea of wearing them spurred Rhea to actually get ready for the ball.
As for her accessories, Rhea really kept it simple. A pair of star-shaped hoops, and a few layered golden necklaces. No rings, nothing other than that. It was strange for Rhea to look at herself and not see the image of some preppy pureblood girl looking back at her - as was the case for previous years. But Rhea liked this version of herself, so she put on her golden mask and mentally prepped herself to go down to the ball. (The mask she'd found in the depths of her suitcase, and she was almost sure it was her mother's. How it had gotten there was a mystery to her, but Rhea wasn't about to complain!)
Rhea had absolutely no clue what she would do when she got down to the ballroom. But did she care? Not really, cause she got to wear her dress and shoes! Before she left her dorm, Rhea tied half of her hair into two space buns to make it look like she tried just a little bit. And then she put on highlighter, because it made her sparkly. Her cheekbones literally shined and it made her happy! Then she smiled at her reflection, happy with the way she looked, and went down to the ballroom.
Upon entering, Rhea just stood there for a few minutes. She swallowed down her nerves and made herself look approachable - straight posture, a welcoming smile on her face - then headed towards the buffet table. All the worrying and stress had made her hungry.

Jack adjusted his jacket ever so slightly for what felt like the hundredth time. In honesty, he considered himself more of a street rat. He wasn't made for balls or banquets. Luckily, that opinion of himself did little to dissuade him from going all out for this little shindig. If there was one goal Jack had for this night, it is to make an impression. Whether that be good or bad was still up in the air. However, the first step in making an impression was the presentation.
White. He had decided to wear white accented with black. Classic. He felt as if the white would help make him pop out in a crowd. The jacket he wore was blindingly white with contrasting black lapels. He found quite a bit of pride in the smart white bowtie around his neck. It took him some time to get that tie looking presentable. However, the most interesting thing that he had found was a full-faced polyhedral raven mask. The internet was a fantastic thing. It didn't cover his head entirely, but his face was completely obscured. And as a nice cherry on top, Jack had styled his normally terrible mop of hair and gave it the 'I just got out of bed but I still look good' treatment. The boy was truly lucky that his parents had been able to pull in a favor from a seamstress that was a local at his parent's bar.
Finally, the time had come. After smoothing out any visible wrinkles in his suit, he straightened his back and squared his shoulders. It's time to make an impression. With a confident stride, Jack entered the large eloquent ballroom. He couldn't help but give a small grin from under his mask. Everybody there looked so dang fancy! Only a single question crossed his mind, as he paused in at the entrance of the room. What do I do now? Then it came to him. It would probably be best if he just made his way around the large room. If anything else, it gives him the chance to show off.

Gem raised his eyebrows, a tint of red on his cheeks and the tips of his ear contrasting his normally pale skin. He'd seen this girl around, though he never felt an actual reason to go and speak to her. Of course they were friends, ridiculously gorgeous girls often stuck together, he thought, keeping his smile present, attentive.
"She talks about me-?" Just as he was about to question further, grapple an answer whether or not said Talking About Him contained at the very least pleasant connotations, he was interrupted by-- James! Oh, thank God he was alive. Man, he wouldn't say it out loud, but when he gave his mate a once-over, he was sort of underdressed. At least it made two of them.
"The hell is Google?" He questioned aloud, "I reckon that makes two of us, huh? You need to borrow some kind of... jewelry ta distract everyone from yer wrinkled shirt. Here," He reached around his own neck, pulling the silver necklace he had around his neck, setting it under the collar of James' shirt. He looked like he'd fit right in, now. Just as he was about to open his mouth and make more dude-ish conversation, he remembered he had some people to introduce.
"Oi, James, let me introduce ya to these birds," He felt sort of weird, taking handle on the situation like that so fast. "This is Aphrodite, an' this is me girlfriend, Brielle," He gestured at the two girls, a little sparkle in his eye. His girlfriend, he'd never get over that. "An' girls, this is James. Been my mate since the very first day of school, real dunce he is." He nudged James' shoulder, all light and playful so everyone knew he didn't mean it.
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Aideen found herself slipping through the crowd, passing by people just for the fun of seeing how they had dressed. After minutes of fruitless searching for someone she knew or at least a person who wasn't here with a boyfriend or girlfriend, she had given up. However, there was still plenty to see, and she had come up with a sort of game with herself, trying to find the best outfit. With @Lamik Fillestar. Open to interaction.
There were lots of people here who were in big groups and seemed to know every person in the hall. Aideen found herself wishing she'd gotten out there a tad more since first arriving at Hogwarts, but the truth was, she was afraid of growing close to them and then losing them when they discovered The Secret.
Therefore, she had a way of generally trying to avoid getting to know people, no matter how interesting or friendly or smart they seemed. People will always disappoint you. It was a thing she had learned from a very young age, and over again a year ago and since. But speaking of interesting, she caught a glimpse of somebody and laughed.
She wasn't sure if the sheet of paper was for comedy or the wearer was serious, but either way it was a sight for sore eyes.
"Hi there, Lamik! she called, pushing her way through the dense crowd. Her insides were doing this weird flip-floppy thing, the same thing they did around, well, everyone, except a hundred times worse.
Okay. Act casual, Aideen. Casual is key.
