2024/2025, Stage 3 Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 5

After narrowly avoiding a splash of light sent in his direction, Theo regained his balance. To his astonishment two of Slytherin's spells had backfired giving Gryffindor a huge advantage. It was so lucky, that Theo thought there must be some divine power wanting him to win. His confidence hit a new high as he raised his wand to press the advantage. He felt wired, unstoppable, there was nothing that could get in his way.

There was little for Pyxis to do other than react to his spell blowing up in his face, sending him stumbling back a few steps. Once he was able to take a few breaths, he looked to his teammates. Matthew seemed to be in a similar predicament to him - Who is the gremlin stealing all our luck? - and Draven eyes were covered by a blindfold. Not again. He shook off the pain, knowing it would be an uphill battle from here.

Unsurprisingly things instantly blew up in Matthew's face. It was a feeling he was uncomfortably too familiar with, a trait since birth that this recent year had seen amplified. Yet, given his only real aim had been to not hit Siobhan he supposed he could hardly complain. If anything this was just more of that sweet karmic justice he was so clearly overdue. Regardless of the pain his trepidation did have one benefit for unlike usual he was not thrown by the backfire readying himself for the next round.

Afternoon slot

Sadly the Slytherins' luck did not turn for the better, the lions seemed determined to win the championship this year. Aston watched as all three of the Gryffindor duelists went for the same target, the now blindfolded third year duelist, Draven Mirador. The blindfold clearly made dodging the many continued attacks harder for the older boy, all three of the attack spells aimed at him landed. Draven was still standing but the all the spells and jinxes he took had an toll, but he finally ripped the blindfold off, hopefully ready to turn the tide of this duel.

While Draven was dealing with those attacks, one of his teammates, Pyxis, was certainly trying to cast a spell of his own. A knockback jinx aimed at Siobhan, unfortunately it would not have quite the same effect as the same spell previously cast by Theo, with Siobhan dodging just enough for the spell to miss. At least it didn't blow up in his face this time? Speaking of spells blowing up in your face, Matthew, who suffered the same fate last round, was standing still, motionless among the chaos of all the spells being cast at all the duelists. Perhaps the full extent of the Gryffindor's attacks stunned the boy? Who knows.

Time froze and Matthew felt his breath catch in the air in front of him. Everything just slowed until it completely stopped and he could no longer hear or feel anything. Matthew became a passenger in his own story as he watched from above lost in an outer body experience. Everything felt muffled and surreal but it didn't make the devastating barrage on Draven any less twisted. The boy who had been left utterly blind was lucky to have held on against such ruthlessness and while the bandage was now off the damage had already been done. Luck was no friend of the Vipers this day but neither were they aided in Matthew's mental state.

By the time his spirit managed to corporealize and actually gain sentience over his body once more the round had passed and he had done nothing but stare blankly into the nothingness that he felt inside. It seemed that despite their agreement to put the past behind them Siobhan had shaken Matthew up far greater than he had known. In addition to the many other problems of his life seeing her and knowing what he did was affecting his gameplay. This no doubt would only bring his fellow teammates more reason to be disappointed in him. Duelling this year had been an abysmal clown parade and he was sick of it.

Fingers tightening around his wand he felt rage boil beneath his skin and knew that this time he would be ready and that luck could be damned. It wasn't over until it was over and Matthew had no intention on giving up.

Three spells integrated to the same target. This team seemed to have a bond. After three times of strategy formation in the locker room, Sere became accustomed to the thoughts of her two teammates on the piste, as if she could understand them. This was more than just a coincidence. This was a memory formed by time.

The next round was coming and Sere was already preparing her next action. Let's hope that their thoughts would once again connected, resulting in satisfying output.

They let Draven have it this time. Both Pyxis’ teammates were nursing wounds from the other side and Draven was even on fire. And all the while, Pyxis rubbed at the spot where his own magic had blown up in his face. Not a single spell from the lions had come his way yet. This is eerily familiar and I don’t like it.

Theo was astonished that his team was still unblemished. The first Slytherin squad the lions had faced were a challenge, but this time it was as if an unknown power wanted them to succeed. The duelling became so natural to them that the Gryffindor's were communicating wordlessly. In the young boy's mind there was no chance of losing this fight. He wiped the sweat from his brow and raised his wand for the next spell.

Siobhan felt good that her spell had gone and hit Draven along with Sere's. They were both dealing enough damage to the poor kid that he was becoming quite discombobulated. She felt proud of herself that with her deteriorating eyesight that she could see what was going on and still perform as well as Theo and Sere. She hated to have to tell them that she would be significantly more blind by the next duel. She wondered if they would demand a partner switch.
