A Pawful of Memories PET

Amelia’s small frame stood in front of the sign of the ‘Magical Menagerie’, as she pushed back her brown swirls of hair to see further inside. It seemed, alike to almost everything in Diagon Alley, this shop had a unique and exciting look to it. Perhaps that is just because she had never been somewhere so… magical before.

As Amelia turned to look into the store, her ’blue eyes took notice of an elderly lady with silvered hair and a floral dress that reminded her of one of her grandmother’s many stood in view helping an unseen person with a wide smile. A small smile trickled across Amelia’s face too as she made a mental note to never bring her grandmother near her for she was sure the two would start an unbearably long conversation.

It was as she spotted a white cat, playing with a small toy that Amelia’s mind immediately turned to think of her little Mittens.

It had been a rather warm day, the sun spiraling between the clouds when Amelia, on her way to her favorite spot in the hey loft, had spotted a small patch of white among the bales. As she paused, half curious, half nervous for what might be there, the small figure of a tiny cat appeared. Feeling slightly relieved, Amelia had bent down carefully taking in the tiny animals features.

As the small kitten pulled herself out of the hay, a stunningly cute and adorable face was revealed. With huge blue innocent eyes, gentle upward poking ears covered in the silky silver-white fur. Her body was tiny and she carefully stepped towards the girl. It took a moment and then her body arched and her soft head gently bumped into Amelia’s leg. Amelia almost gasped, surprised by the immediate affection, and carefully bent down to pat her. Perhaps the movement or something else was the thing that scared her, for the cat went bounding off.

It took less then eleven days for the young cat to turn to adoration of Amelia. While it started with cautious petting, feeding and carefully being let inside, soon the feline was like a small shadow - sleeping on her bed, purring as the music to her books and amusing her with her smart playfulness.

Gramps had soon ensured the kitten had been checked and soon the basics had been dealt with. The check bought Amelia the basic information that revealed that the kitten was a girl who was now reaching three weeks. Once the conversation had turned to how she must be one of the strays in the area and the effect of cats in the wild, Amelia politely listened but didn’t bother remembering anything. Granny however took to ensuring that the kitten had a comfortable bed, plenty to eat and was comfortable.

Mittens had soon become a well loved member of the family. The name of the adorable cat had had two influences. The first was the darker, mitten like markings on her paws and the second was the fact that she had found some of Amelia’s little-used cream mittens and they had sonar become the kittens favorite play equipment.

At this very second it was highly likely that the kitten was snuggled up on Amelia’s bed, a gentle purr being whispered through the cottage.

Amelia’s fresh smile grew further as her thoughts returned to the bustling streets of Diagon Alley. She turned her eyes past the shop, her eyes and mind now returning to the shops she still needed to find. If I want anything from here, I suppose it is best I hurry to the other shops first, Amelia reasoned. The young girl turned almost blending into the sea of customers and wanderers of the street except that her bright smile seemed to illuminate her face like a candle.
