Perhaps entering with a little too much over-confidence, Archer would soon be thought a lesson in self-regulation as his trusty, yet brutal flipendo missed completely, sailing past Dennis’ head with no hostility at all. As his captain was down from an own blow of the knockback jinx, and while physically he seemed only slightly deterred, Archer worried for how his mental wellbeing was holding up. Brows furrowed at the missteps, he readjusted his stance, determined to find something else to occupy his attention rather than wallowing in self pity.

Dennis thought he was hot stuff. First duel. 2 spells dodged. He actually felt really special for a moment having had either the stroke of luck or the nimble ability to get out of the way of a coordinated full frontal assault on him. He took a moment to think how awesome he might look for Meyra. He did get a quick peak at Raizel, the Gryffindor that not only taught him how to fly but spent a spring break adventure at a certain tea shop with. And he got to hear the sweet sing song voice of his dearest Meyra cheering him on. He felt like a superstar! The distraction of both the spells and his mind being anywhere else but the duel proved to be his undoing as he took a spell straight on, from whom he never found out.

“Oof” he said landing hard on the ground, his coordination coming back to him as he cast his own spell at the only person he actually knew - Prat Pass. However, the combination of setbacks caused him to miss…barely. Dennis clicked his tongue, maybe next time.

When the duel started, Edward was focused on his first move. He didn't realise what exactly was happening around him. He just noticed some spells flying through the air. He took a moment to remember the correct wand movement and then cast his first flipendo towards one of the Slytherin boys (Prat). He did not remember his name but it did not matter. The spell hit and Edward was both surprised and cheerful that his first attempt was successful. No spells were coming towards him, so he turned towards his team members and saw that Dennis was lying on the ground. Edward hoped that he was okay. Wow, a duel can be quite intense, but also fun, he thought.

The thrill and chaos of dueling was still a bit jarring for Cassian. He had been deep in thought, contemplating his latest duels, which mostly ended poorly for him. Cassian was so deep in thought in fact that he was suddenly jolted to the present, finding himself on the piste, spells flying all around. He was beside his new teammates, Ed and Dennis. He hadn’t dueled with them before, but they seemed capable and eager, great new additions to Ravenclaw’s dueling team. Readying his wand, feeling the smooth yew wood against his palm and fingertips, Cassian prepared his mind and body for the chaos he knew would come again any moment.

Lea had forgotten how fast the tides could change in a duel until she stood before an example once more. Dennis quickly scrambled back to his feet, sacrificing casting for a proper return to the duel with a less distracted eye on Slytherin. It would be a good thing too as Archer looked to use this open opportunity and return Dennis back to the ground. While well cast and accurate, the Ravenclaw was faster as he scampered off to the side. Elisa, seeming to note the new maneuverability of the younger Ravenclaw would switch targets to Edward instead with the Tickling Charm. Yet her wand seemed only to deal in extremes and with a more rushed spellcasting, the spell shuddered and exploded back onto the Slytherin, sending her into a fit of giggles at the failure.

Luck and timing had chosen Ravenclaw this round, their strategy a continued strike against Prat as a volley of Flipendos shot across the piste from Cassian and Edward. Edward remained precise in his casting while Cassian's return to the present moment seemed to take both himself and the others off guard. The two spells flew and found purchase, a hard punch that left Prat challenging the dark as he sleep overtook him. The spell of his own, Tarantallegra, would falter, sizzling out before exploding back on Prat as he danced to his demise.

"STOP!" Lea called, jumping forward between the two teams to let others help escort the fallen Slytherin off of the piste. Already it was a 3 v 2 and with a surprising amount of backfiring on the snakes' side, it seemed a steep recovery was needed. But luck did have a way of shifting about and there was still time for the tides to shift once more. "Alright- all good? Then, resume!"

Of course, Elisa had seen how spells could to backfire to their caster. But she usually mastered spells well enough to keep them from firing out at the wrong end of her wand.

Perhaps it was the thrill of a perfect cast, or perhaps it was just rotten luck, but the incantation had barely left Elisa's lips before she was bent in half by waves of tickles - the effects of her own spell. Thoroughly annoyed and definitely embarrassed, Elisa tried controlling the endless giggles bursting out from her mouth, in vain.

Her whole body was shaking, one arm clutching her stomach to try and stop the aching and the other covering her mouth. Tears rolled down her cheeks - tears from uncontrollable laughter, a stomach ache, and shame.

Elisa did not see Prat falling, and only became aware of him when Lea called out, "STOP!". Through her watery eyes, Elisa saw several students carrying her duelling captain out of the room. Oh no... she thought in exasperation. This reminded the Slytherin only too well of her latest duel against the lions. At least Archer still seemed unscratched.

Right, this was how Fortuna was going to play their little batch of aspiring duellists. Well, no crude language but damn her.

In all fairness, Archer watched, eyes wide, with more disbelief than any sort of anguish as his spell sailed past Dennis, whose once supine body must have given him the advantage of a swift evasion. Still, not keen nor lowly enough to search for excuses of his own misstep instead Archer offered his opponents only a scowl. Flicking his wand hand in an attempt to loosen the rigid joints he glanced up to compose himself before setting steely eyes on the group of Ravens lined up before him. He had just used up his second chance; no failure should happen more than three times.

The two duellists beside him did not seem to be doing any better either. Archer furrowed his brows as both of them turned their wands on themselves, whether out of some self-sabotaging masochism, or, more likely a backfired cast, which did not seem to make much sense either, especially for the high opinion he held his captain in.

Wagner had bursted into a state of maniacal laughter as she was plagued by her own tickling charm, crazed by the giggles she could not control. Despite its seeming innocent humour, Rictusempra had always been one of the most intimidating, simply for how it portrayed such a joyous state of laughter when the victim was clearly in pain, if not physical then the shame that must have been brought upon.

Pass, on the other hand, derived much more concern from his loyal Viper. Not only had both the Flipendos aimed at him landed with full force but his own Tarantallegra, sending him into a dance that would lead to his demise. In every way it was just as horrifying as the Tickling Charm, seeing such a celebratory action being placed on his admired friend in strain, the final dance of the day that would celebrate none other than his time in the hospital wing. Archer did not quite bother about whether it was jazz, ballet, or some other form.

Soon enough, Hirsch would call for a halt as Prat fell, unconscious. Archer did not think him any lesser for it as only a mask of worry spread across his taut face. He knew that whenever the next met what would await him would be nowhere near how he treated Mirador and Campbell after their absolute slaughter. Whatever, with his heart in salute, he knew he ought to be swift to move on and refocus on what was left of the duel ahead. “Swift recovery,” he muttered quickly as Prat was hauled out of the duelling club.

At least they should make sure his KO was not in vain.

Now with whom he deemed the best duellist out of them gone in such an out of character fashion and Archer the only one left unscathed, they would have to put up a good fight against the awaiting three blue-clad rivals. Today they were truly hapless.

If they continued on like this they would have lasted shorter against peers than they did seniors. Which is exactly why that pure hypothetical was not about to happen anytime soon.

One of Cassian’s favorite parts of dueling was teamwork. It was especially satisfying when their unspoken plan worked out so nicely, the team moving in unison. Cassian and Edward moved in sync, wands flashing upwards as they each cast their own Knock-Back jinx at the poor Slytherin duelist. Cassian felt the full force of his casting and imagined that Ed’s was also powerful, and painful. He cringed a bit as the younger student went down, hard, taking his own backfired spell as well. That was unfortunate indeed. As Dennis rose back to his feet, Cassian couldn’t help but feel even more confident in this new team. They worked well together and he was excited to see what happened next. Calming himself and not letting himself become over confident, he risked a quick glance at his teammates, hoping his presence would help calm them as well.

This time, Edward was even more focused on his spell and accurately aimed at Prat, who didn't have a chance of evading Edward's Flipendo. Edward saw that his team mate's spell was also hittin Prat and while going down, Prat seemed to even have the bad luck of getting hit by his own spell. Or at least it seemed like that to Edward. Prat was dancing in a weird way while being knocked out kind of at the same moment.
As he heard a girl giggling uncontrollably, he also looked around to see that the Slytherin girl must have also been hit by her own spell. What a bad luck for them.
Looking towards his other team member, he noticed that he seemed unhurt from this next round of spells and was standing upright again. Relieved, Edward prepared for the next round. Only two Slytherins standing, and they were three Ravenclaws. Focus, Edward, focus. We haven't won yet. he reminded himself in his thoughts.

What a round! Dennis couldn’t help feel a little bit useless as his team spent not one but two rounds shouldering his weight. At least he was back on his feet and ready for the next round. It was time to get serious and perhaps he would even hit someone this time. He looked around and saw the Slytherin girl having just the most grand time at the expense of her teammate, Prat. The only time he met the guy was in the dungeon and they did dungeon things together. Still, didn’t think he deserved to be laughed at just because he couldn’t dodge a slow moving cow let alone a few spells. Poor guy.

Dennis caught sight once again of Meyra and Rai in the crowd. This time he would do them proud!
