Influence PV V. McGregor

The library. Cecily looked up at the lofty ceilings as she entered through the doors. It's been too long, my old friends. She hadn't been inside of this space since...well, since she realised the bookshelves in her dormitory restocked themselves. That was a glorious day, the day she discovered that she could plausibly sit on her bed all day long, and well into the night, and not run out of reading material, because to describe her as a voracious reader would be an understatement.

Unless, of course, it came to school work. When it came to assigned readings for classes, she was surely the least motivated person in the castle, by far. She tried, she really did, but uninteresting topics like those covered in History of Magic were no fun to read about. Sure, the theory behind magic was interesting, but she just wanted to do it, not be forced to "think critically" about it.

And so, on this day, she had made her way to the library, hoping that perhaps seeing others studying might motivate her to do that same. After all, she didn't want to do poorly in her classes-- she was actually very invested in her grades, what with her competitiveness and occasionally perfectionistic qualities-- she just wasn't interested enough to stay focused for long. Maybe that would change one day, and she would actually put effort into her schooling. But who was she fooling? Every year she told herself she would try, and every year she found herself falling back into the same patterns. She needed a good influence-- because apparently Adam wasn't influence enough. Not that she'd talked to him recently. In fact, now that she thought about it, she had barely seen him since the train ride in. Huh.

Cecily made her way to an empty table and placed her books down softly. It was almost dead silent in this area of the great room, just the occasional footstep and page turn. The Ravenclaw pulled out a chair and cracked a book, quickly rifling through the pages to get the sound over with. Head down, she glued her eyes to the page. She would study today, goddammit.
