Would you..? Will you?

A cool wind swept across the grounds at Hogwarts as Lark made her way outside, closer and closer to the Great Lake. She had received an Owl from Dale a couple days ago about wanting to meet up again. She wasn't sure what for although the days leading up til today her mind had gone through all sorts of scenarios. The only thing she could think of realistically was he needed some help with homework.
Thankful she had dressed for the weather Lark tugged her jacket closer around her. Granted she now was starting to regret the charcoal gray skirt with the wind picking up, wool stockings or not. Lark enjoyed the colder weather over Summer but the wind was rather chilly. Beams of sunlight cut through the clouds above and helped warm her some. Seeing the large tree stretched out over the water, Lark paused for a minute to braid her hair to one side and adjust the knitted hat her Gran had packed for her. A small flicker of anxiety shot through her veins as she straightened her braid against her neck and tucked a stray hair neatly behind her ear not realizing as it turned a shade of teal.
Dale had been on her mind quite a bit recently, especially after he had helped her outside with Potions. That seemed like forever ago. They hadn't seen much of each other as Lark was busy with schoolwork. She had wanted to get ahead before the holiday season, hopeful she could return home. There had been moments where they were able to catch a bite to eat or Owl but not as much time as Lark selfishly wanted with the boy. These feelings were so strange and new still. It wasn't something that she was used to and certainly making it a point to learn how to navigate better.
Reaching the tree, Lark saw no sign of Dale. She turned to look back towards the castle her golden eyes scanning the grounds for the familiar ruffled haired boy. Nothing. Shrugging, Lark leaned back against the tree trunk and shoved her hands into the pockets of her coat. No need to worry. No need at all.
Okay maybe a little.
Lark brushed at her bangs and straightened her hat once more hoping to look somewhat decent.

Dale looked at himself once more in the mirror, he had asked Lark to meet him at the great lake to ask her something. Lark had been in his thoughts more than Dale wanted to admit to. As he once again tried to get his messy hair to stay down again he thought back to the time when he helped her out with potions, that felt like forever ago now. Dale was starting to get a little bored in classes nowadays because he spent almost all of his summer reading through the years textbooks in an attempt to get ahead. His plan worked too well since now he barely had to try to get an O in all of his classes, most of his time was spent reading in the library or at the great lake.
Dale was brought out of his thoughts as all of his hair sprung back up into its usual messy mop. Dale slummed his shoulders and walked out of the abandoned bathrooms, he had to get a haircut soon. He walked down the stairs and decided to take another exit, it was a bit longer but it was a little less crowded. He made his way outside, he was dressed well for the weather, he was wearing a black light jacket, that wasn't zipped up, and a green polo shirt, the warm summer was almost over, and autumn was fast approaching, and autumn is Dale’s favorite season.
As Dale continued to walk, a large amount of anxiety hit him as he remembered what he had called Lark out for. He was going to ask her to go to the masquerade ball… not wait it was a dance… whatever it was called Dale was going to ask Lark to go with him, he would usually not even think about going, but since it was a masked thing, Dale decided it would be… fun? He really had no idea what compelled him to go or to ask Lark to go with him.
He pushed those thoughts out of his head as he approached the spot. He spotted Lark, seeing her made a rush of heat wash over him, his face turned a bit red he stopped and put his head in his hand in an attempt to try to make his head a little less red. He looked up again, and continued to walk towards her, as he approached her he could she was very distracted, dale decided he would scare her a little. He quietly walked up behind her, he noticed that he was much taller than she was, almost a foot, maybe that was because he was a year older.

Caught up in her own thoughts and preening for Dale to show up, Lark had spazed out completely. He had pretty much commanded her thoughts the last couple days and she certainly wasn't complaining. She certainly hadn't heard Dale's footsteps, too busy picturing the boy's brown eyes and endearing smile.
"Hey"
A scream let loose from Lark's throat as shivers spiked along her spine, leaping forward and almost tumbling towards the water. Her chest heaved as she turned around snatching her hand from her bag. Eyes wide and heart feeling as if it had flown up and lodged itself in her throat, Lark realized Dale was the culprit.
"DALE!" Lark wheezed. Collecting herself she took a breath, heart still racing. "Dale..." Standing frozen in her spot she waited a moment. He had gotten her that's for sure. Suddenly a laugh bubbled up in her. Snorting she tried to stifle it, to no avail. The laugh burst from her as she bent over, hands on her knees. She had never, ever been had someone prank her like that. It was rather funny. Even if she had almost leapt out of her skin. Most likely nerves were making it much funnier than usual, but she couldnt stop giggling and it was making her sides ache.
Standing back up straight, her eyes tearing up from laughing and cheeks sore Lark held her side as the laughter subsided.
"Oh my gosh... Dale.." she breathed the last couple laughs and set her eyes on him. His jacket looked quite nice on him and his hair seemed a little more tame than usual, although she found it to be attractive when messy. It was how she had first met him and what had stood out to her as appealing. She felt a blush rise in her cheeks.
"You look nice!" Smiling she returned her wand to her bag. Not that she knew anything to save her from anyone had it not been Dale but for some reason it had just been instinct to grab for it.

Dale knew he had succeeded when he heard Lark scream and jump forward. He grinned with the satisfaction of scaring someone. He hoped Lark wouldn't get too mad at him, but she seemed like a person who was ok with a little practical joke.
"DALE!"
Dale laughed as he was the flustered look on Lark’ face, it was quite cute. Dale was laughing so hard that he was almost bent over and was having a little trouble breathing. It seemed like Lark thought it was funny too because she was also bent over laughing. They continued to laugh for what seemed to be 5 minutes before Lark stood up straight, her eyes a bit red. Dale also straightened up and wiped the tear on his cheek.
""Oh my gosh... Dale.." !"
"Hey Lark! I hope I didn't scare you too much" Dale said with a stupid girn. Dale noticed that Lark had her wand out before he could ask about it, she returned it to her bag and said "You look nice!" Dale smiled as he heard that, "Thanks, you too!" Dale thought that Lark would look amazing in almost everything, he imagined what she looked like wearing a dress…
He shook those thoughts out of head, he had to focus on the task in front of him, "Well... umm... I guess you're wondering why I called you out here?" Dale took a deep breath, one question if she said no, what could happen, they going as friends after all… right? Dale wasn't really sure what he felt when It came to Lark, and he wasn't about thinking about it here.
"Well… I was wondering if you wanted to go to the masquerade… ball.. Dance… whatever it is?" Dale looked at the ground rubbing the back of his neck, he didn’t weant Lark to see how red his face was.

A blush burned across the girl's freckled face at Dale's compliment. At least her two hours of getting ready had paid off. Stepping closer to Dale steadily, Lark tried to not slip on the grassy hill, pitching herself down to the water was definitely not on her list of things to do today.
Waiting for Dale to continue she kept the smile plastered across her face. He seemed so nervous, she wasnt sure why. Maybe something had happened with one of his other friends? Or he needed-
"I was wondering if you wanted to go to the masquerade… ball.. Dance… whatever it is?"
Lark's jaw felt like it could fall off her face. Had he.. did he? Ask? Her? her of all people? A simple first year? She had never...
Standing frozen in time, Lark stared at Dale her eyes glistening. She felt her chest swell and head spin. Watching Dale silently she saw him drop his gaze and head face the ground. She walked closer to him and placed a hand on his shoulder trying to bend to look him in the eyes.
"I would be honored!" Lark couldn't believe he had asked her. She would be sure to write to her mother as soon as she was able! The realization of a ball.. dressing up... having a... date? Was it a date? Maybe he meant as friends. Surely that was what he meant? Dale was good looking he had to have had other options but perhaps they hadn't worked out. Even if the thought of it only being on a simple... plan B friend thing, Lark was beyond excited.
"Dale, I would very much like ta go with you!"Hoping to reassure him, his face looking a bit red. She gave him a gentle hug in thanks, unsure how else to express how she felt. Even if inside she was screaming her brains out and feeling giddy as all heck wanting to rush off and tell Elz andabout everything. MAGGIE! Maybe they could help her.. she had no clue about makeup and dresses and... oh gosh. Lark squeezed Dale a little tighter and squealed a little with excitement at the thought of the ball.

Dales face shot up into a smile when he heard Lark's answer, she had said yes! an outcome Dale was not very prepared for, Lark was a very pretty girl, she must've already had dozens of people already ask her.
"Dale, I would very much like ta go with you!"
He was still looking at the ground, but he could see that Lark had gotten closer to him and that her hand was on his shoulder, which made his shoulder feel a little tingly. Lark gave him a hug, something Dale didn't really expect, but it was welcomed, he returned the hug, the hug tightened a little, a little too much, he heard Lark squeal, "L-Lark, I-I can't b-breathe " He let go of her and looked at her. He would get to see her in a dress after all.
Dale took a quick peek at his watch, oh no, its was getting a bit late, the library was going to close in 20 minutes and Dale had some books to return and pickup. "W-Well, im looking forward to the ball dance thing, ill see you around!" Dale said as he sprinted off back into the school, his face bearing a stupid grin.
