The boy stood there, seeming to be utterly speechless as she spoke. She'd gotten the response she'd expected though; that in spite of the lad's resolve to stand firm and tall and act as though he wasn't afraid of what he could do, he still flinched.
He rearranged himself, returning to his proper posture and watching her. She could imagine what he was thinking about her, looking at her through a new point of view, exhaling a scoff to her performance. Looked at her as though she were made of cold, unforgiving stone. Wasn't that her intention though? To do whatever it took to ward people away from herself? To protect herself? Though this lad hardly seemed like someone she ought to fear, but not because of his house. She knew better then that; that Hufflepuffs could be just as dangerous as any other house.
For a moment, it almost felt like a stand off as they passed judgment on each other. Part of her wanted to see him retaliate and prove her judgment wrong.
Finally, the girl bent to pick up her bag once more, tucking her wand among the rest of her belonging haphazardly stuffed within. Her eyes didn't leave him though, "Think of me whatever you like about me, I can assure you worse things have been said to my face." she spoke, perhaps a bit softer then her tone before. The snake strung her bag over her shoulder, "I appreciate your intention, but it was stupid. Someone like me isn't with your trouble. Stick to helping those worth your time and compassion." the girl tucked a lock of hair behind her ear before starting off towards the Great Lake. At least there she knew she'd be left to her own devices.
