The warm morning sun poured over the Hogwarts grounds, illuminating the ancient castle with a delightful golden glow. A few puffs of smokey clouds were floating around in the sky, but other than that nothing hid the spring sun's rays. A slight breeze was blowing around - not as nearly as strong enough to be called wind but rather a soft caress.

A girl walked out of the heavy oak front doors of the Hogwarts castle, and stepped lightly upon the green grass, heaving in a big breath of fresh air and smiling at the sensation. Her wavy brown hair had been quickly tied into a low bun and was covered with a beige sunhat, and her hazel eyes were twinkling with the joy that came with the blooming of the first flowers and the sprouting of leaves. A light blue cardigan covered a simple white t-shirt and baggy trousers, and a satchel was strung over her shoulders - the outfit for a morning of gardening.

The second year Slytherin was heading further into the Hogwarts grounds. She was to meet her Gryffindor friend, Sere, there to participate in an event Professor Toussaint-Fleischer had organised, which consisted of replanting the area after the devastating Hogsmeade fires.

The Herbology professor had informed them about this during class, and Elisa and Sere had both agreed to come together.

Arriving at their meeting point and seeing that her friend had not yet come, Elisa went to fetch a few potted plants from the greenhouses. She carried back a heather seedling and a Scottish primrose, as well as two small shovels and a few other gardening tools. Of course, Sere would be welcome to bring a few other plants if she wanted. Elisa then took out a picnic blanket from her satchel and smoothed it out on the grass, just in case the girls got tired and wanted to rest a bit.

Plopping herself down on the marine blue blanket, she stared at the tiny flower buds on both plants and smiled to herself.

Jogging while carrying a satchel is clearly not a good idea. That was one fact that Sere Nade just realized this morning. After biting an apple as her quick-breakfast, she immediately jumped into her routine. This morning was great, the temperature was just right and the thin veil of greyish cumulus did nothing against the sky’s beauty. The girl in a plain black t-shirt with red joggers and running shoes wiped her sweat, then rubbed her right shoulder; the place where she had hung her satchel. "Alright, exercise is over. Just have to pick up some seedlings in the greenhouse before meeting her."

There was a reason why Sere carried her satchel all the morning. Yup, she had an appointment. An errand was held by the Herbology Professor, a mission to replant. The Gryffindor girl had heard and read the news about Hogsmeade, but the bloody-mushroom infestation was something completely new in her ears. Seemed so random, but for some reason Sere felt moved to carry out this errand. Either because she enjoyed to see everything looked like how it supposed to be, or more than that was a concern for nature that she didn't realize deep down inside her heart.

Back to the appointment, The girl had an appointment with... "Aha! Elisa!" she called her meet-up while lifting two little pots -one in each hand- of Primrose and Campion seedlings. Her ponytail moved here and there as she jogged lightly, approached the girl wearing a light blue cardigan. The closer she got, the more Elisa seemed to match well with the planting activity they were going to do. Sere flashed a sheepish smile, "Errr... I must look like a mess." She said while flicking her limp hair strands out of her face as the spring breeze played with it. "Sorry, been waiting for a long time?"

Sere didn't expect that after the Winter Games she would get some conversations and become closer to Elisa, to the point they made an appointment to do this errand together. At the end of her second year, Sere finally became fully open to new people's presence. She had shown her extrovert side completely, also throwing away her fear of being shunned by her peers. "Let's see... I'm not good at planting, actually..." The girl knelt on the marine-blue blanket -a very neat set up- while lining up her seedlings with Elisa's, "Oh! You took Primrose too!" Off-topic for a moment, Sere cleared her throat and continued the previous sentence, “Where should we start?”

Kneeling up on the picnic blanket spread out on the grass, Elisa distinguished Sere Nade's bright figure approaching from afar. Hmm... didn't expect her that early. Elisa stood up, and shielding the sun's light with her hand, she waved with other to her gardening buddy. Sere had told Elisa beforehand that she would come after her morning jog. In fact, her attire suggested all that - all except the satchel and the two plants.

Elisa walked up to her friend, smiled and greeted the Gryffindor. "Hi Sere! I see you've prepared material as well!"

"Honestly, you shouldn't have bothered", Elisa continued lightly, "I can't imagine what running with a loaded satchel would be like!"

Sere then commented on her appearance, which Elisa had to disagree with. She liked it when sweat was dripping off the tips of Sere's smooth black hair, when she was slightly out of breath and her cheeks rosy with the heat. It reminded Elisa of their first real encounter on the duelling piste, that time the lions smashed the snakes to ground after, what? four rounds? That particular memory made Elisa laugh, after which she excused herself. "Sorry- was just thinking of... you know, that time...", she said, emphasising on the last two words and pretty sure Sere knew what she was referring to.

"Anyway-", the Slytherin moved on, pulling herself back to the subject of their little meeting, "You look as delightful as you always are, and no, I just came barely a few minutes ago - pretty surprised we didn't run into each other at the greenhouses." One thing she liked about Sere was her bubbling and optimistic energy - it made Elisa feel open and free, her worries forgotten in her friend's contagious buoyancy. With Sere, Elisa didn't feel the need to think before speaking and to measure her words carefully. With Sere, Elisa felt like... herself. Perhaps it was this, or perhaps Elisa was just in a good mood, because today the young Slytherin felt that nothing could overshadow her cheerfulness.

She heard Sere muttering to herself, then sitting down on the blanket. Elisa followed, settling herself next to her friend, head resting on her hands. "Yup, I couldn't resist when I saw those bright colours...", Elisa said, looking fondly at both pots of flowering primroses. "So...", she continued, "I think we can plant them anywhere we want, right? How about..." She hesitated, then pointed at the little patch of ground right in front of her. "Right there?", she suggested, feeling a bit stupid.

Looking closer, Sere realized that Elisa had also prepared shovels and other gardening tools. Such a nice Elisa. The girl massaged her right shoulder again, grimacing, inwardly questioning the use of bringing the exact same tools in her enchanted satchel while jogging. Luckily, she had been considerate enough to pack some enjoyable treats as well, but she’d only bring them out once the gardening activity was over.

"My appearance reminds you of that duel?" Sere chuckled. They had talked about it before and everything had gone better than she had expected. This eventually leading to the good relationship they had today. An interesting dynamic, especially considering the possibility that the two of them might meet again on the piste someday.

"Over there? Err.. Good idea." Sere scratched the back of her neck. She also spotted a little patch in front of them and when Elisa suggested it, Sere -who knew nothing about gardening- immediately agreed. Neither of them had a clue, Sere didn't mind playing dumb and dumber as long as she was with Elisa. "Let's get started."

Sere got up from the blanket, holding two small pots in her right arm and shovel in her left hand. She approached the patch, dug to a sufficient depth and carefully pulled the primrose seedling out of the pot. She wasn't sure if the pots were biodegradable, so she chose the least risky way by separated the seedlings from them. "Then we just have to put the soil back over the roots, right?" Sere looked overly focused. Pretty funny, considering this was all just about planting two seedlings. "One done!" She exclaimed proudly.

She made another hole next to the primrose to plant her campion. While digging, she saw something wriggle, "O-oh my gosh! I almost stabbed you with this shovel!" Sere exclaimed, then pulled the creature out of the ground, "Elisa, look! This earthworm is ready to help our seedlings growing better!" Speaking of earthworms, Sere didn't know whether Elisa was grossed out by this kind of creature. Well, this was the perfect time to find out. She brought the earthworm closer to Elisa, "Look at this!"

"Indeed," Elisa nodded with a grin, "you remind me of Slytherin's devastating defeat against Gryffindor every single time I catch sight of you." She spoke softly, ending with a slightly theatrical sigh but unconsciously making sure the playful tone in her voice was clear.

Elisa inwardly grinned when Sere agreed to that little patch of ground with nothing special - she seemed as clueless was Elisa was. It was somewhat a kind of reassurance to know that she wasn't the only inexperienced gardener here, because though Elisa had made sure to come well prepared, the furthest she'd gone to in gardening was handing a few tools to her dad.

The young girl chose a spot next to Sere's little hole, and began digging with the green shovel she had brought. "You don't mind if I plant it here, do you?" she asked all while working, "then our primroses would be together!" Elisa held up the plant she had taken from the greenhouse, and judging her hole big enough, followed Sere's manoeuvre and slid the pot away from the little seedling as delicately as she could.

It took a few wriggles and pats and the plant was free. Cupping the plant as well as the small block of soil that came with it with her hands, Elisa placed it in the hole and filled the gaps with some earth. Looking at sideways to Sere, she realised her friend was already at her second hole.

Just as Elisa was reaching towards the other plant, an exclamation from Sere alerted her senses.

Peering between Sere's fingers, Elisa spotted-

"A worm!" she practically squealed out loud. Instinctively, Elisa stepped back until she deemed the distance between her and the little creatures safe enough. "What are you doing, Sere?" Elisa whispered, both incredulous and somewhat disgusted by the scene. "I- I think it would do it's job better if it's in the soil rather than hanging in the air..." she continued breathlessly, eyeing the pinkish glint of the earthworm warily.

Elisa did not have a particular like for anything wriggly.

Sere saw two Primrose seedlings planted side by side. She created a little smile, beautiful. She even forgot about that wriggling pink worm on her hand, until Elisa squealed out and took steps back from her position. The Slytherin whispered a few sentences, gaze full of wariness. The small smile on Sere's lips turned into laughter, her eyes became a straight line. Elisa's response was so adorable!

Sere took some distance away with her knees then loosened the surface of the soil using her free hand before returning the worm to its original place. "Alright, alright. I'm sorry. I don't know that you're afraid of worm. Your reaction was so cute." Sere cleared her throat, "I've put it back to the ground." The girl pointed at the spot.

"Where were we? Oh! Right, planting this one." Sere took a position beside Elisa again and finished her Campion. "Elisa, what's your hobby? Do you have something you often do in your spare time?" The girl asked, casually as her hand moved to return the dug soil to cover the root of the seedling. "I like reading, and simply wandering around the castle when I have free time." Sere Nade's free time was not that much, actually. This ambitious girl spent too much of it studying instead of chilling.

A moment later, Sere moved her hand away from the planted Campion, "Done. Just the finishing step left now. Umm... Do we need to fertilize our seedlings? I really have no idea. Or we just have to water them?" The girl scratched her right cheek with fingers full of dirt, leaving several dark brown lines on her 'blushing red by heat' face.

Elisa's cheeks flushed into a shade of soft pink, realising she had probably overreacted and secretly wondering what Sere would be thinking of her.

Still, she made sure the wriggly worm had disappeared into the loose soil before resuming her spot by Sere. "Can you imagine... that you can just cut this thing in half and it just separates into two different beings?" Elisa muttered, still staring cautiously at the spot in the dirt in which the worm had disappeared. "I have to admit, though they are definitely one of the ugliest creatures ever to exist..." - she smiled sheepishly - "they're still pretty amazing... in terms of biology."

Only when Sere returned the topic of the conversation back to the seedlings to be planted - the task they were supposed to be doing - did Elisa realise she was staring absent-mindedly at the little flowers before her. "Oh- right," she stuttered, steering her thoughts away, "where were we?" Her eyes travelled to the heather plant beside her, and she quickly resumed their gardening activity. The Slytherin dug a little hole in the ground, careful not to place it too close to the spot the worm had been just moments before.

"Hobbies?" Elisa murmured thoughtfully, eyes still on her little hole. She had almost mistaken the word for 'Hobbits'. "I like reading as well." She looked up. "I go the library quite often... Actually, I go there pretty much every day. Apart from classes, homework and duelling, well... the rest of my free time is spent in the library." This time, the plant had a little more trouble sliding out of the pot, which resulted in a bit of dirt falling off from the top. She heaved a little sigh. "Guess I should actually try and interact with people more often." Looking at Sere she smiled - because guess what, she was interacting with one of those very good people right now!

Elisa carefully placed the seedling, along with the bit of soil that managed to stick to its roots, in her hole, then covered it with dirt. Looking around she saw Sere was done as well - or at least, they should almost done. "I... don't know," Elisa said, amused by their hopelessness, "perhaps we could just water them? I didn't think to get any fertiliser..." Realising her thoughtlessness she asked, "Have you brought fertiliser, Sere?"

Sere giggled because of the way Elisa explained the worms' body separation. If she remembered correctly, one of the booth owners at a science fair she'd once attended had explained it scientifically using the word fragmentation. Sere agreed that their method of reproduction was both disgusting and amazing at the same time. "I get it." She replaced her giggle with a light smile.

"No way..." Sere turned to Elisa, "I also spend my days with classes, duelling, and reading in the library." It wasn't anything extraordinary, closer to a boring routine, but hearing someone explain this 'boring routine' without trying to exaggerate her day made Sere appreciate Elisa with a glint in her eyes. "I just play with my pet in my leisure time. I guess I should start trying to play with real people too. Reading is fun, but it always ends with me playing with the characters I portrayed in my mind."

"Let me check," Sere stood up, approaching the blanket, ignoring the hygiene by simply rubbed her hands to get the dirt off a little before rummaging through her satchel. "Errr..." The girl didn't find anything. "I didn't bring it, apparently." Sere laughed dryly. She was truly embracing the role of dumb and dumber right now.

"I think our plants should be satisfied with this," The girl took out her one-liter water bottle, which she had just drunk a little. She went back to Elisa and their plants. She watered the soil around the seedlings with enough water and held out the bottle to Elisa. "Here, the last step, and we're officially done."

[quote]Elisa knelt, looking keenly at the little seedling she had just planted. "Well- uh, I guess they'll be fine without fertiliser, anyway." She watched as Sere poured water on the plants; their lopsided row of herbs and flowers standing between little mounds of fresh earth. One glance from anybody would suffice to tell that the hands that had planted them weren't exactly experienced.

Elisa patted the earth around her plants in an attempt to steady them, before taking her friend's water bottle with a word of thanks. Carefully she tipped the bottle, until a thin stream of clear water was flowing from the opening and onto the oustrestched leaves of her seedling. When she deemed the quantity enough to satisify the little thing's thirst, she lifted the bottle and handed it back to Sere.

Standing up from her kneeling position, Elisa contemplated the little patch of turned earth on which their few plants were sitting. It was nothing spectacular, and certainly not comparable to the blossoms in the manicured gardens those of high-society paid gardeners to maintain. This was just a couple of crooked branches, leaves and droopy flowers. Nonetheless Elisa allowed herself to feel proud -- in their own way, this was the two girls' small gesture of help to the revival of the ecosystem around Hogwarts. Not to mention, she got to know Sere better, which, if nothing else, was certainly a plus.
