"Oh my god, yes!!! I'll come with you!"
Those had been Novalie's excited words after Ollie, her best friend in the whole wide world, casually mentioned graciously invited her to plant seedlings around Hogwarts for an ongoing errand. It was clear as day that she hadn’t even considered saying no. The girl loved spending time with him, and she adored nature in every sense. She had already spent countless hours braiding flower crowns or napping in trees the moment spring arrived and the temperatures rose.
And knowing Ollie shared that same love (they literally had so much in common!), Novalie could hardly wait for the day to come.

When it finally did, she met up with the Slytherin to pick up the seedlings - mostly colorful flowers - before they made their way to the grounds.
"I know a place where we can plant them!", Novalie offered confidently, leading the way.
Not long after, they found themselves at a very distinctive tree.
"Here!", he redhead pointed at the soft patch of grass in front of it, smiling all the while.
In her mind, she could picture them beneath this very tree - and how they’d sat here the first time they met, vividly remembering spreading the letter to Ollie's parents between them and writing a highly professional, carefully worded reply with his generous help. From that moment on, she simply had known their lives would be forever intertwined. And ever since, whenever Novalie needed a place to feel safe and calm, her feet would always always bring her back here.
"Let’s make this, like, our comfort place.", she stated happily, "Bet it'll inspire you to paint awesome pictures when everything’s blooming and smelling like flowers! This place can become - what do artists call it again? Your muse?"

She knelt down and began digging small holes in the earth for the seedlings. Everything around them was peacefully quiet - except for a gentle breeze rustling through the leaves and the occasional cheerful chirp of birds singing their songs.
Actually - should they be singing too? It felt like a fairytale moment and in fairytales (or in Disney Movies at least) people always sang in moments like these. Her eyes glanced sideways at Ollie.
What - what kind of music did the boy even listen to?
It stunned her that after all this time and everything she knew about him, the Ravenclaw had no idea. Surely something like old... folklore? Or maybe - she paused pressing soil around a seedling to come up with the right term - those uh .. medieval instrumentals that you hear in fantasy game villages?
Yeah. That totally suited him.
Still, Novalie couldn’t be sure. So the Metamorph took the opportunity to sing - well, rap, actually - a song that had been stuck in her head since yesterday. Confident as ever in her skills, she was sure she could pull Ollie in, even if it may have not been his ultimate favourite genre of all time - but to be real, was there even anyone who truly disliked rap?
"They not like us, they not like us, they not like us.", she began, nodding to the rhythm while setting some red flowers in place,
"They not like us, they not like us, they not like us."
... Did she know how the song continued?
No.
But she knew how the Chorus went and thus, repeating it a third time,
"They not like us, they not like us, they not like us."
Novalie finally paused, plucked two red flowers from the bundle, and turned to Oliver with a bright smile.
"Hold still for a sec."
Giggling amused, she tucked one of the flowers behind his ear, clapping her hands excitedly when it stayed in place. Then, the girl placed the other flower on top of her head. Figuring however that the red would probably blend in too much with her natural hair color, she concentrated - and within just a few seconds, her hair had shifted into a golden blonde, the same shade as Ollie’s.
"You know what we should do?", she said, pointing to his hair with a playful grin.
"Dye yours red sometime so you look like me."

It had been a simple conversation really, a talk about plants. And Oliver just happened to have mentioned the new errand. Planting plants, With all the intention of inviting Novalie to help him with it. He figured if he wanted to look less like a loser, and well like he was unhappy. He should try to do things with other people. It was very clear to him that Novalie was going to be a constant thorn in his side. So, Oliver would try to learn to stand her. Before he had even gotten the first 'will' out, Novalie had invited herself. He was already having his regrets.

They were furthered when meeting up with her hearing she already had a spot in mind. "Then please, lead the way." Oliver said with a curt nod. Be nice Oliver. Nice. She may have gotten him thrown in detention and may have written a letter to his parents. And seamed to forget her things quite a bit in history of magic, She was one of the few downsides to that class, other than that. She was 'great', many few complaints. Following the girl through the school and to the grounds. Oliver had quickly the idea Novalie had.

He took a deep breath, This. Well, he couldn't sugar coat it, already sucked. It was the tree where Oliver read the letter to his parents, finding out how much of a disappointment he already had been. Despite not having been at the school for a month when he got the letter. Where he had first met Novalie, And where she wrote, for lack of better words, 'colorful' letter to his parents. The start of most of the trouble. One perhaps could even blame it for the detention. Novalie could have chosen any other students on the ground that day to run up to with his letter. That really, no one should have seen. A very private letter.

Maybe he wasn't as over it as he thought he was. Novalie started to call it a 'comfort' place. What did that even mean? He wasn't comfortable here. Not really. All he could think about was the letter he'd been trying to forget. The one his parents wrote to him and Novalie's response. "My muse?" Oliver repeated as he himself got on his knees making small holes for the seeds in the dirt. All colorful ones, at least they would be when they bloomed. Oliver wasn't sure if he had one right now. Maybe Otis, he did paint him a lot. Did that count? "Maybe, we'll- er just have to see?"

He was doing his best here. Though if it were up to him he would rather stay a way's away. But then again, what did they say? The past is dead, so that could be what they were doing here. Oliver could be burying the letter, and planting the seeds to bloom new beginnings. But he was an artist. Not really a poet. So, who really knew. They could very well just be planting meaningless flowers. Something that went alongside poetry in a way was singing, Novalie was doing just that. Maybe? if it could even be called that. She was just repeating the same words over, and over, and then again, and then a little more. He didn't like it. Not at all.

Before Oliver was able to make a comment about how he wished she would stop, and that there really wan't an issue in working in quiet. Novalie had told him to be still, then put a flower in his hair. A bright red one, matching Novalie's own flower as well as her hai- scratch that. She made herself blonde. A very light smile crossed his lips. So far she was the first, and really only metamorph that Oliver had the 'pleasure' of crossing paths with. The ability really was amazing. "Blonde? Why would you want to be blonde?" It hit him, same shade as his own. Then her words. It was hard to figure out what Novalie thought, she normally just talked and talked. He may have been spending too much time with her, as he was starting to understand her rhyme and perhaps reason.

He shook his head. No way would he be 'switching' hair colors with her. Unlike Novalie, Oliver couldn't put his hair back to normal color with a thought. "Please, if I dye my hair I doubt it would ever come out." He had no issues with cutting and changing the hairstyle, but drew the line at dye. He sprincked the seeds in the small crevice that he'd dug with his hands. Carefully covering them back up. Feeling the dirt under his nails almost reminded him of running through the woods back home with Aaron. "I will cut it eventually, but never dye." He said with a small nod.

Novalie had nodded in agreement when Oliver said they'd have to wait and see if this place would become his muse.
Of course she was sure it would, she just had that feeling. But the girl understood he needed time to somehow feel it, in that mysterious, artistic way she couldn’t really grasp, as Novalie herself wasn’t an artist, so she couldn’t say for sure how it worked. All she could do was support her best friend.
"No rush!", she said with her usual grin.

After she’d turned her hair blonde, Novalie didn’t miss the small smile tugging at Oliver’s lips - which, naturally, made her want to change her hair to match his more often!
"I did it to look more like you, obviously.", the Metamorph answered his question breezily, as if it were the most normal thing in the world to want to mimic someone, especially someone so close.
"Someday I’ll try looking like a boy too, and then I’ll go, like, full copy-mode! I'll be your twin - it'll be sick!"

Unfortunately, Oliver had declined the idea of dyeing his hair red like hers, saying the dye wouldn’t go out and he preferred to just cut it eventually.
"But, like-", she began, setting down the seedling in her hands and turning to face him, "Your hair grows again, you know?"
She pointed at her own scalp and made a flowing downward motion with her hand, following her long strands, "Like this, you see? So the red will grow out, and then you can just snip it off. No need to stress! It’s just, uh, biology and stuff!"
She flashed him a thumbs-up and another enthusiastic grin. Heck yeah! She could totally teach him all about it!
"Also...", Novalie added, turning back to plant the tiny seedling, "Besides blonde, I think red would really suit you. No, actually, any color would suit you. My momma used to say that good-looking people could wear trash bags and still rock the look."
She giggled softly, "But anyway, red’s your favorite, isn't it? It also reminds me of you a lot. Oh, and of Eric."
Her smile grew as her thoughts drifted to her other best friend - the extremely cool and composed Gryffindor who always seemed to cross paths with her when she strolled along the castle halls.
"He’s the best, right?"

And right there and then, a thought sparked in her mind! The Ravenclaw hadn’t shown Oliver yet -
Closing her eyes once more, Novalie concentrated for a moment. Slowly, the left side of her hair darkened more and more until it turned a deep, raven black. The other half remained golden blonde - it was almost a Cruella look, though she didn’t go as far as making the blonde white. No, because this was something else. A tribute, wearing her best friends’ colors with pride.
"See? I’ve been practicing that lately! Cool, huh?"
Novalie turned her head a few times to make sure the Slytherin got a good look, then added excitedly,
"I can do it with really vivid colors too - like pink and blue! Eric helped me with that, because apparently-"
She suddenly leaned in close, right into Oliver’s personal space, her eyes locking onto his,
"- I lack focus and patience. Can you believe? Seriously, I never would’ve guessed."
In her opinion, she had always been very attentive, but alas, she decided not to question it any further. In the end, she had managed to control her ability a bit more, which is what really counted. And if her Gryffindor best friend had noticed her lacking, it had to be true.
"Eric is so smart, don't you agree?"

Oliver shook his head, with a fond exasperation. An annoying recurring emotion he had with the girl. Unfortunately, she was growing on him. Never one to admit this, he lied, and lied often. Quiet lies to himself, loud lies to those he considered 'decent enough', Such as Aaron. Novalie was just someone that followed him around, like a stray animal he fed once in his youth. Sweet at first, annoyingly resilient, didn't care what you did and just seemed to admire you. He truly didn't know how to feel about her.

His head tilted, the hair, looking like his, her saying she wanted to look just like him. He didn't understand that either, Wanting to look just like someone whom hadn't been overtly kind to another. Oliver was- Whatever, didn't matter now. He was sometimes trying to be nicer to Novalie, sometimes he was still cold to her. It depended on his feelings that day, and how annoyed he'd become by other students early in that day. He needed to be in a tip top mood to partake in Noavlie's, Novalie-ness. "That would be amusing to see," With how stubborn the girl was, Oliver had his doubts that she wouldn't be able to do it. His eyes flicked to her hair, then back to the dirt, seads going in and being patted down. "I think, you- well," He cleared his throat, "I think you could, eventually. If you keep practicing." That was one of the nicest things he may have said to her.

He deeply sighed, and shook his head once more. A common action he did when around her. "Biology, huh?" He said amused, from the corner of his eyes, he could see her flash the thumbs up. He huffed a laugh, and sighed, shoulders relaxing for a moment. Red, good on him? His brows furrowed. Gryffindor, was she mocking him? No.. No couldn't be that. It was a conversation about hair, Not houses. Though then she called him 'good looking' Damnit.

He just couldn't figure her out. A light flush came to his ears, not that he liked her like that. He wasn't sure he liked anyone like that. It had just come from out of the blue, He bit his lip and looked away. She just kept talking, And talking, and talking. "Oh, and of Eric." A deep inhale through his nose. He'd almost forgotten about it, Novalie and him. Eric Kim, a Gryffindor student he shared classes with. A know it all, that challenged him greatly in classes. He looked away from her. He spent quite a bit of time with Novalie, and with Eric. Considered both of them reoccurring characters if his life were a book.

He dared not call them 'important', Though he did think they would be the type to tell him things about there life. Together. More so Novalie, At a ball they had all attended over summer he'd been given the idea that Eric and Noavlie had started a relationship. And he hadn't been informed. It bugged him, and it bugged him that it bugged him. Not that it was anything for him to know, he didn't like either of them much alone, let alone when they dragged him into crap together. It didn't bother him. Though he hoped it was the last time the Gryffindor would be mentioned. "Yes, Eric is amusing." Unintentionally he gritted it through his teeth.

With more force than the plants deserved from him, Oliver put one of the more fully grown ones into the soil, patting it down with equal force. He looked at her, as she asked him to, the grunted in acknowledgement. Stupid Eric. It was very unfair, not that Eric hadn't told him, but Oliver's 'grudge' against him. For doing nothing but really existing, doing his work, and making relationships. It was pretty, of course he would push that down like everything else.

Novalie again got close to him, causing him to lean back, he bit his lip. Lacking focus, who could have guessed that. "Wow," He said, lightly putting his hand on her shoulder, and lightly guiding her out of his space, no more force then needed. "I can believe that," He said, trailing off to grumble something about Eric being stupidly right about a lot of things. Whatever. "Yes, yes, Eric is smart. I get that." He said with a huff, putting again a plant in the dirt with more force. His eye may have twitched- he would deny any comment on it, he was clearly above that. Clearly. -Annoying. Eric was better at him then everything, the bitter taste of jealousy filled his mouth, and words came out before he could think about it.

"May as well just talk about how 'great' Eric is, throw a whole damned party about him." He felt a little like Noavlie, spewing words out, no though behind it, unfair of him on her, and Eric. "Gryffindor fits him well." A compliment in wording alone, the tone bitter. He needed to calm down. He sat back on his knees, hands resting on them clenching the fabric of his jackets edge, not looking up at her. Quietly he asked. "How- close, are you to Eric?" He was annoyed he may not have been informed of a relationship. Subconsciously considering both of them friends, it was all misunderstanding, after misunderstanding. Oliver jumping to conclusions, and not thinking.
