A skull as thick as a bludger
There was cheering before the sound of a cannonball went off as the Ravenclaw Captain slammed her bat into the bludger with a target painted on Kyle. The girl had swung true because she watched Kyle look up just in time for the bludger to connect with the side of his head. She remembered her hands white-knuckling on the rail in front of her as she watched Kyle downward spiral head over heel to the ground. She remembered feeling like she was going to be sick when he made impact. Begging him to move in her mind giving anything just to see any part of him move for even a moment, but she was too high up to even see his breathing. What she did see was the trail of blood smeared on his face coming from underneath his helmet. As soon as the medical staff took him away on the stretcher, she did everything she could to leave that space to get here. Even if that creepy boy who thought it was okay to put a hand on her had tried to stop her.
So here she was dressed in her school robes, her camera bag on the floor by the door, and a Gryffindor scarf over her shoulders, his scarf. She paced back and forth relentlessly occasionally a staff member poked their head out to see if she was still there waiting only to tell her not yet when she jumped at the chance to try and get in. It felt like she had been out here pacing for an eternity before the door opened. “Miss Martin, you may see him now, but I warn you he is resting don’t do anything to wake him.” Santario would nod scooping up her bag while she followed the nurse to the far bed where they had him lying. She couldn’t bring herself to look at him right away as she set her camera bag down.
Her heart raced this was her best friend the closest person she had ever had in her entire life besides her parents. He had taught her about quidditch and yeah, they had some falling outs but he had even helped her pick a dress for the masquerade. Everything was just getting good again and now this… What if he didn’t recover? She looked at him now biting her lower lip and running a hand through her long raven hair to push it out of her face. He’ll be fine. Look at him he is strong and that head of his is thicker than the bludger that hit him. He’ll be fine. She took a deep breath and moved a chair up to the side of his bed and sat down looking at his face. “Please wake up Rook, please…” Her silvery voice pleaded in a whisper.

A skull as thick as a bludger

Illowy had been as high up in the stands as she possibly could, having been keen to have the best seat she could manage to watch her cousin play; just as well, since they weren't playing Slytherin she could feel no shame cheering him on. However, the moment she watched the Bludger connect with Kyle's head, Illowy immediately regretted where she was standing. The girl held her breath and time felt like it stopped for moment... until he finally fell off the broom.
Of all the bloody places to stand, I stood up here, she scolded herself, trying to push past the onlookers to get to the stairs. Her blood went cold in her veins as she heard the crowd gasp and go quiet. An unmistakable sign that he's finally hit the ground. The entire trek to get back to the ground felt like it took eons as she ran to the hospital wing.
By the time she finally arrived, the girl looked windblown and disheveled, and it appeared she'd been beat to Kyle's bedside. She didn't know Santario well, but Illowy knew her well enough as an underclassmen in her house. What she was doing here, the girl couldn't guess, but she didn't care as she unwound her green and grey house scarf from around her neck tossing it at the foot of the bed as she hurried over, "You bloody idiot, I thought I warned you not to get hit." she grumbled under her breath, looking her beloved cousin over as she slide her robes from around her shoulders and laid it down with her discarded scarf.
Pale, cold eyes glanced up at the younger girl. Illowy had a reputation of being fairly cold upon meeting new people; but especially so when she was already upset, "What are you doing here?" she questioned, not meaning for her tone to come out as rudely as it did. The second year sat herself on the edge of the captain's bed, tucking a tangled tress of hair behind her ear.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Santario had been so distracted by her own internal plight for him to wake up and be okay that she had not noticed the other girl until the girl had spoken. She tensed up and shifted her sharp sapphire eyes up to the girl’s face. It was obvious she knew Kyle as she was already sitting on his bed and asking her why she was here. She analyzed the older girl for just a moment. She thought Kyle would have told her if he had, had a girlfriend. Then again, she had never bothered to ask she didn’t normally think about things like that let alone verbalize them. She called him her best friend and yet she didn’t even know certain things about him. She would make a note to change that when he was better probably after her own quidditch game.
Santario’s silvery voice became formal but polite as she sat up straight. “Rook is my best friend. I am here for the same reason you are I presume.” She would hold her hand out to the girl. “My name is Santario Martin.” Although Santario put out a good front the older girl would be able to see the worry masked behind those sharp and calculating eyes especially since they kept looking over at Kyle every once in a while before going right back to the girl's eyes of whom she spoke. “I just want to make sure he is ok. I wasn’t expecting his…?” She trailed off allowing the girl in front of her to finish the sentence… Why in the world was she hoping that this girl was some kind of family member?

A skull as thick as a bludger

Instinctively, a small puff of a chuckle escaped her as the girl declared that she was Kyle's best friend. She found it humorous. If that were true, then the child should've known who she was the moment she came into view. Just as well, she still found it difficult to picture anyone else in the place of her cousin's best friend, "I'm sure you are, poppet." she assured, if not slightly, mockingly as the girl continued to introduce and explain herself. All of which was of little interest to the older snake at the moment; all she cared about right now was Kyle.
"Illowy Magnard." she spoke with a roll of her eyes, hoping some answers for the other might hush her, "I'm his cousin, an' he'll be perfectly fine. The lad has a head like steel, so you can go." she assured, her Irish accent thickening in a way that only happened when she was either with her family, or filled with emotion or worry. Illowy couldn't help herself but be wary of new people around her family. After all, family was everything to Illowy and after everything she and Kyle had been through, especially over the summer, she felt an inherent need to protect him from most people; fearful they would exploit his loyalty or somehow hurt him another way.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Santario pulled her hand back her right brow cocking up with a crooked half-smile on her lips. So this was the game? She understood how to play she had seen it many, many times among the adults. “With all due respect Illowy. I’m sure he can tell me to leave himself when he wakes up if he really doesn’t want me here. I don’t walk away from my friends, ever.” Her Irish thickened as well which only happened when she started to get heated. She would, however, stand up offering the chair to Illowy in a show of actual respect. She wouldn’t back down and there was nothing Illowy could do to make her leave, but knowing that she was family she would respectfully give them space.
Leaning back against the back wall by her camera bag her arms crossed she would watch Kyle. His scarf was still around her shoulders as she had not bothered to take off that or her cloak. The only thing that truly brought her comfort in this moment was the steady fall and rise of his chest. Something struck her about something Illowy had said, ‘I’m sure you are’ did she mishear what San had said? Kyle was, in fact, San’s best friend, but was she his? She didn’t truly know, and she understood that there was so much more about him that she needed to know. No not needed, wanted, to know. She wanted to know more about him, but that required patience and if she was anything it was patient.

Kyle would let out a slight groan and mumble out "Muppet...yer tha...la-...". His eyes rolled around under his lids as the throbbing and flashes of light inside his head grew more and more intense until finally he had no choice but to open his eyes and hope that the light would escape out them and leave him the hell alone. His hand went to the side of his head and he recoiled at the tenderness of it, his groggy eyes slipped back and forth between Illow and Santario but in his woozy state the two pretty black haired girls may have as well been twins in his mind. Then it dawned on him that is was infact his cousin and his closest friend, though with the chill in the air he wasn't sure anyone told them they should get along. "Magpie, Muppet. Muppet, Magpie...did we win?" he closed his eyes and rested his arm across them. his head was killing himA whiz of air, and then boom. Darkness. His mind became an endless sea of black. For a time there was no recognition of the darkness or state of unconsciousness. No sub thought, no dreams. just nothingness. Gradually almost as if with the throbbing of his heartbeat there was flashes of color and pain cascading through his mind. Was he asleep? was he dead? more importantly did they win the Quidditch game? At this point blurry images began to rush through Kyle's mind. blurry red and gold figures walking onto the field. Field of green and tall colored pillars all around with muddled sounds of voices and cheering in the distance. One particular voice began to sort of Echo with a sort of doppler effect in and out of his mind. Getting louder and louder with each pass. It was a familiar voice...but what was it trying to say...
get...Rook! ...-se langers...bo-
Rook? that was him. He knew that much. Langer? He's not a langer...who the hell was calling him a langer? He recognized the voice...who was it. He knew who this was...the name was right on the tip of his tongue. It was some dummy with a camera...

Illowy couldn't repress the scoff that escaped her as the child insisted on staying. Though the girl relinquished the chair to Illowy, the brunette stayed where she was on the bed. She didn't have time to entertain some first year who didn't know a thing about anything. Then again... wasn't Illowy hardly more then a child herself? Even if she was suppose to be an official teenager in the coming spring?
Such thoughts vanished as Kyle started to come to once more. A rare sight of gentleness from Illowy could be seen as she reached for his hand after he touched the wound, "Easy there, Kyky." she spoke softly, taking care to keep her voice soft to spare his surely aching head. It was fair to say Kyle was the only person who could draw out Illowy's true self in all of it's colors; tender gentility being the rarest of all.
For Illowy, being there for him when he needed her meant a lot to her; especially after he'd been there after she'd woken from the mess in the Forbidden Forest. All the same, he was her childhood opponent, and wouldn't be a true interaction between them if she didn't at least take a small jab at him, "Ky, I recall givin' ye'one job when you joined the team; don' get the shite beat outta ye." she smiled, as he asked if they won, "Lad, ye'really think either of us stuck around to see who one the bloody match?"
Stony hues lifted to the other girl as Kyle hid his eyes from the light, "Santario, please draw those curtains there." she nodded her head towards the opposite window, "'fore the lad's head explodes." she asked, standing to draw the curtains nearest herself to cut the sunlight as much as possible considering the time of day. Certainly it wasn't the first time she'd dealt with the rock head giving himself a concussion, and somehow she doubted it would be the last, "You're gonna run out of brain cells one day, Ky, if ye'keep bangin' yourself up like this."
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Santario’s outer ice melted when Muppet escaped his lips and her eyes softened almost immediately. She slowly let go of a breath she hadn’t even known that she had been holding. “Rook, the game is still going on we don’t who won yet.” Her silvery voice was gentle as she spoke to him much more kind and less formal than it had been when she had spoken to Illowy. She moved to close the curtains as she spoke to him at the same time that Illowy had asked her to. Santario allowed herself to stand closer now but not close enough that might be deemed disrespectful by proper social etiquette even if Illowy though San being there, in general, was disrespectful regardless. “Open your eyes slowly and take it easy. Don’t rush it or you’ll give yourself a migraine. Just lay there and relax.”
Santario spoke as if she was experienced with healing and she was. She had spent a lot of time in St. Mungo’s with her mother who was a Head Healer there. Her mother had also trained her well in everything that she could that didn’t require actual spell work. “I’ve got someone who is going to come here and tell me how the game ends when it does.” She knew the only thing that would satisfy Kyle was knowing that she had handled for them to find out without him leaving the hospital wing. There was plenty more she wanted to do and say, but that wouldn’t happen with Illowy there, not with them being in the current situation that the two girls were in.

A skull as thick as a bludger
As Kyle rested his arm over his eyes, his head pounded harder and harder. He had taken some pretty hard hits before, he was no stranger to concussions that's for sure. Though this particular hit really rocked him. Maybe it was the fall from his broom and landing on the hard ground alongside the bludger to the head. Then it dawned on Kyle. Not only did he take a hit and get carted off. The game was still going as far as the girls were saying. He was here, and his team was left with no captain, and no second string. They were down a man and without guidance!
Kyle pushed himself up suddenly and tried to lift himself out of bed "I gotta get to the pwuaaaaa-" The world tilted sharply and spun. his insides jumped and looped and he felt as if he was going to...no yeah he...
Kyle leaned over the side of the bed and threw up before slumping back onto the bed, pressing his palms into his eye sockets hoping he could make the room stop spinning. "I need to be on the Pitch...my team needs me...." he said shakily. He knew that his cousin was just trying to poke fun in their good natured way while still looking out for him, and Santario was going full maternal on him and he wasn't entire sure how he felt about it.
"What Shite head hit me...break his fuckin' legs..."

A skull as thick as a bludger

Illowy turned her head sharply seeing the boy sit up quickly to get up, "Kyle Derook, you better not-" it was far too late for warnings. With a wretch, the boy thoroughly relieved himself of the contents of his stomach. The girl quickly leaned over the bed behind him, wrapping her arm across his chest for fear for a moment he very well might tumbled out of the bed into his own bile. Mentally, she thanked whatever higher power that might exist that she had a strong stomach, "For the love of all that's decent, Kyky." she muttered, mostly to herself, shifting her stance once more as he slumped back into bed miserably.
Perhaps, she thought, having Santario here wasn't an terrible thing. At least that way there would be two others there to pin the stubborn boy in bed if need be... though she was still sure she could handle him just fine on her own.
"Kyle, you're useless on the pitch until ye'stop seeing double." the girl leaned towards the foot of her bed to dig her hand in her robes pocket, producing a handkerchief; offering it over to Kyle to wipe his mouth, "You've lead your team well, they know what they need to do." she tried to assure, "And I'm sure they'd all be in agreement that ye' need t'get yourself to rights again before you even think about mounting a broom again."
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
