Great Gates of Hogwarts: Ilvermorny Arrival Open

Iris honestly seemed to have a bit too high of hopes for a friendship-sort of deal, but whatever. Phyllis certainly wasn't about to kick her out, make her stand all alone, but it wasn't as though she was looking to be friends with her. For one, she was third year. Also, well... this was the girl she'd pranked, and being BFFs seemed like a bit of a stretch. Friendly acquaintance wasn't though, so she decided to go with it. From the looks of it, Karilyna wasn't too thrilled either, but she kept any comments to herself.

"Yeah, I know a lot about this place, actually. I mean, probably not modern stuff, but my parents went here, so there's that... But, yeah, I can answer questions and stuff."

A small laugh rang out of her when Astrid mimed thinking hard. "I sure hope not. Could you imagine if we had to hear the same lecture in history or something all over again?" The redhead didn't miss the Thunderbird's mention to not knowing much about the magical world. It meant she was very likely a Muggle-born, but Phyllis certainly didn't care. She happened to harbor a certain hatred for blood elitists. Anyways, she figured she should say something to assure Astrid it was fine not to know a lot.

"Nah, Astrid, you're totally fine. About half the kids that go to Hoggy-warts come from non-magical families anyways, so I bet most of them know next to nothing too," she said, offering a reassuring smile.

"Anyways, did you guys bring stuff for the Masked Ball?" Her nose wrinkled a bit. Sure, she didn't hate dresses or anything, but a ball sounded annoyingly fancy and far too formal for her.

Astrid nodded at the agreement of horrible classes. She had certainly never been one to sit still for any length of time unless absolutely necessary.

"Oh, I did a little, but mainly to talk to my pen- Quill- Pal. Any interesting facts?" Astrid asked, blushing slightly at her little understanding. While she had an interest in Hogwarts, she wasn't one to research in her free time. She could completely understand why Karilyna would research in her free time.

Iris quickly joined the group by also replying to the question posed by Karilyna. Astrid hadn't really thought too much about the others, but now that she looked around, it was an odd bunch."Maybe they did a raffle?" Astrid shrugged, listening to Phyllis's response about her parents going to Hogwarts. It seemed like a nice school, or at least, all that she had seen so far. Inwardly, she grumbled, wondering why they hadn't been let in. But it was a nice conversation..

"I certainly hope so. While I might not be interested in the classes, I don't really want to be the one that's behind." Astrid felt okay with talking to these people and letting them know she was muggleborn. Iris had probably already overheard and hadn't decided to say anything rude against muggles, so they all seemed quite accepting of muggleborns...

Iris tried to melt into the conversation, probably trying to pretend she was part of their little group. It wasn't like Karilyna cared, anyways--the group of three first-years weren't even best friends or anything. True, she and Phyllis were already two peas in a pod, but although she had just met Astrid, she seemed great too. So although Iris was some third year, she couldn't be too bad. Not like those stupid fourth years who thought they were so cool.

"Oh, my parents went to Mahoutokoro, but I kind of wish they went to Hogwarts. It sounds really cool..." Karilyna trailed off in response to Phyllis' question. "Yeah, Teiki, you're totally fine. I mean, I'm a pureblood, but like I care?" While it was great being exposed to wizardry from a young age, being completely detached from the world of magic could've saved her a whole lot of trouble. Who knows, her parents might even be alive. Brushing that dark part of her history from her mind, she blushed as she answered her best friend's next question. "Um, yeah, I brought a dress," Karilyna admitted grudgingly, "And a random pair of boots I dug out. I mean, I'll have no problem dressing up or anything, but at least we get masks... Did you guys bring anything?"

Glancing at back at the castle's entrance, there seemed to be some British magical students milling around. "Merlin's beard, can't they just let us in already?" the girl muttered. She smiled at Astrid as they whispered the same thing--obviously, they were both thinking similarly. "What are you guys looking forward to here? And Phyllis--what cool facts do you have? Are there any cool places here?" Karilyna smiled.

Phyllis snorted a bit when Karilyna said she'd pretty much just thrown some stuff together for the ball, because that's exactly what she'd done. Some leather boots, a maroon dress, and a mask had all been thrown into her trunk without a second thought. Sure, the redhead had made sure it all matched, but still, there'd been entirely minimal effort put in.

"Yeah, same as you pretty much," Phyllis said to Karilyna. She was more than happy when her friend changed the subject back to Hogwarts--she didn't think she could handle thinking about the gag-worthy event any longer.

"Oh yeah. There's so much cool stuff here. And some weird stuff. But anyways, apparently the Great Hall where everyone eats all the meals has a ceiling that matches the outside sky. And candles. Hundreds of floating candles. And then they have this really tall Astronomy Tower, which is cool, especially if you like a clear view of the stars. And they have probably the best library ever; I actually think I'll check it out and I avoid library trips at all costs. So there's all that. Oh, and Quidditch! Yeah, they have a Quidditch Pitch. I mean, we have a Quidditch Pitch too, but I still want to see it!

She fixed her brown eyes back on Astrid. Did the Muggleborn girl even know what Quidditch was? Well, no matter--Phyllis had absolutely zero problem explaining it; in fact, it would be her greatest pleasure to introduce the girl to the world of flying broomsticks and bludgers and golden snitches.

"Astrid, do you know what Quidditch is? Because if you don't I can totally explain it for you. Maybe we can even borrow school brooms and play sometime?"

Iris smiled, "My parents both went to Ilvermorney, and well- actually I really didn't know this school existed before last year." Karilyna spoke and Iris joined in. "I brought a purple dress and a few other things."

Iris recalled the things she brought. A loose fitting, knee-length purple dress, peacock feather earrings, and a sliver pair of slip-on's sat in the bottom of her bag. She also brought a few other things, but her trunk was a mess, she held it behind her resting against her heels. She wasn't normally a mess, but she had forgotten to pack until the last minute. Well, it wasn't really a mess since she used a spell.

Iris' eyes lit up at the thought of Quiddich. More than playing the game, she enjoyed flying through the sky. She had a small toy broom since before she could talk. Only this year did she start enjoying riding the broom though. Before, she hated it- Iris was not good at sports. Last summer, her friend wanted to practice with her, and now she enjoyed it. They had spent hours gliding about with their parent's brooms. Her parents had promised her a new broom next year and Iris couldn't wait.

"Wait, isn't there a forest-- forbidden forest or something like that?" Iris questioned attempting to elicit a response from them. She loved being outside exploring. It would be fun to explore the forest with someone at some point, she wondered if these few would want to as well.

In the back of her mind Iris questioned if the girls didn't want her here. Iris shook the feeling off, but a small amount of doubt lingered. She put on a small- yet genuine- smile.

Astrid attempted to recall the new names of places that their parents went to school. Creepy, sure, but she wanted to learn more, which meant learning about multiple institutes of magic, right? She smiled gratefully at Karilyna's comment. While the others might not have said anything, Astrid was happy that one helped sooth some of her simmering worries. The other, while they might not have said something outright, were also helping by treating her nicely- and as an equal. She blushed, tucking her face down, before looking back up and smiling- a little softer.

"Yeah, I wasn't really sure, and it was two months, so I mainly took stuff I liked, but I brought a few- well, it depends on what 'few' means- a few dresses. And one mask. As for shoes, umm, boots? Or just tennis shoes." She shrugged, feeling that the tennis shoes would probably be enough. Of course, she wasn't really sure how fancy they were supposed to be.

"You have a nice collection of facts. As for Quidditch, well, they talked a little about it in the one Flying class I've had, but I didn't really understand it. Maybe it'll help if we were to see the Quidditch pitch when you explain it? Maybe I'll be able to understand it better. From the little I understand of it, though, it seems cool." She scratched the back of her neck, looking up a bit to try to remember what little she knew of the sport.

"Forbidden Forest? I mean, the name sounds ominous, but it's a forest! That's really cool, actually. I've always liked forests. Is it actually forbidden, or is it just called that?" Astrid blushed, realizing that the answer was probably quite simple. But the words had already escaped her mouth, so there was nothing to do now...

RPing as Evanore Fairclay

With heart in her throat, Evanore looked excitedly around at the other students in her carriage. They had hit the ground, and the blond haired girl was excited to get her feet back onto solid ground once more. Flying was not her preferred way of travel, but she loved the views they were met with on the way. She had been sitting with her nose up to the windows for most of the trip.
Going on a visit like this, was nothing Evanore had ever expected to experience, at least not while she was in school. Now, she had decided she’d like to make the absolute most out of it. A familiar voice, which she knew belonged to the headmaster, boomed out amongst the carriages and students. Evanore had expected him to make a grand arrival, but still, she felt her body cringe slightly as he made his presence known.

Her eyes glimmered as Evanore first laid her eyes upon the great castle of Hogwarts, her heart seemed to skip a beat from pure awe. It was marvelous. A big smile appeared on her face, as she looked back to her friend, wondering if she was as excited as herself.
Fireworks, really. Her mind could not truly wrap around all this being necessary for their entrance, but the Headmaster seemingly had his needs. She looked over to the fireworks, and over to her friend, as she began to speak. Evanore smiled at the attempted English accent of Amaya. She had been thinking of practicing herself before the trip, but never got around to doing it.
“We should probably get to the gates. Don’t wanna wait out here with... him.” Evanore looked at the girl with a puzzled look at first. She did not entierly hear what she had said due to the loud crackling fireworks. When her mind finally caught up to what she had said, her head gave a big nod, “Yeah, let’s go!”
They made their way out of the carriage, and up the windy grounds of Hogwarts. Her baggy denim pants and tucked red sweater flapped around her small frame as they ran up, heading for the large gates. She gripped her brown bag with her belongings tight, as they made a halt by the stone walls.
Evanore felt her body shiver from the cold air surrounding them. “I really hope it’s nice and warm inside.” and she nodded excitedly towards the gates, hoping to get out of the cold as soon as possible.

"Yeah, same," Karilyna agreed with Astrid, "Honestly, though, I didn't bring dress shoes or anything, so hopefully tennis shoes are fine," she said.

"Yeah, Quidditch is awesome," Kariliyna added, "I wish I could play, but I'm a firstie so, like I could actually get on the team," her face fell a bit as she said this. "I hope they actually have games--Ilvermorny Quidditch absolutely sucks..."

"I don't know 'bout the Forbidden Forest. Hey Phyllis, do you know anything about it? I mean, your parents did come here..." Karilyna asked her friend before continuing, "It sounds really cool though, I mean calling it forbidden is practically asking for us to enter. I mean, I don't want to die, but you know," she joked. In all honesty, though, she didn't exactly want detention first thing at this school, but it did sound pretty cool. The Thunderbird didn't want to voice her concerns directly though--the typically outspoken girl wasn't sure what the other girls would think... Phyllis would probably understand, and Astrid too, but she just didn't know Iris well enough.

"Okay, guys, hold up. We're going to have to attend classes here... ugh... I love how I just came to the realization," Karilyna grinned. "By the way, did you guys have Quill Pals too? Mine was awesome..."

"Yeah Astrid, we can totally check out the Pitch sometime. I haven't like actually played Quidditch before, but I've managed to read a couple of books about it and I pretty much spent by childhood on a broomstick. And yeah, it's not like any of us firsties would've made the team, but maybe next year?"

Iris brought up the Forbidden Forest, something Phyllis had totally forgotten to mention, and there was a certain spark in her eyes. That glimmer she knew all too well--she knew she had it whenever she explored places that were probably not meant for exploring. And she'd seen it in her friends too, most recently in Karilyna when the pulled off Operation Rainbow. The redhead was starting to think Iris might actually be fun to hang around--she seemed to like Quidditch and she had a bit of a trouble-making factor.

But although she was all for a bit of adventure, this wasn't going to fly. 'Cause this was the Forbidden Forest they were talking about. And her parents certainly hadn't had the guts to check the place out, but that didn't mean Phyllis wasn't aware of some of the dangers. Ack, was she going to sound ridiculous or what, but she didn't want anyone to get hurt.

"Well I guess I'm going to sound like a total 'Safety Susan' but the Forbidden Forest is called forbidden for a reason. It's at least got centaurs in it, and they don't really like wizards, plus who knows what sort of stuff that's out to kill innocent children." On the word innocent she made puppy-dog eyes. Innocent was a great word to describe her. Yeah, she was definitely innocent.

"Anyways, we'd be better off exploring the castle. I mean yeah, it's inside, but there's just as much unknown there as there'd be in the forest, and a little less of a 'potential death' factor. But if you're okay with dying, by all means, go right ahead."

Hopefully they would take that last part as the intended joke instead of as a rude addition. But whatever, not like she needed new friends, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if they decided she was mean or something. A snort escaped her when Karilyna finally figured out that they'd have to take classes.

"A little slow there Miss Doe-Eyes. We've been discussing that for ages. But yeah, I had a quill pal. Someone named Saskia, I dunno. I think I'd like to meet her, but we didn't get too many owls in. How about you two?"

Shocking, it was truly shocking that Alexx and... the girl whose name he still didn't know... were still here after hearing him talk for more than a minute. Simon decided British people must have a truly high tolerance for the ridiculous as he handed her the petition, immediately recovering from his shock with a shit-eating grin. So Alexx was in on the prank then, if she was still referring to him as Your Highness. And to get the entire thing in the school newspaper to prank everyone including the professors... This was the best possible scenario he could've ever dreamed up, better than anything he could imagine, in fact.

"I would be honoured to be a part of your paper," he said ceremoniously, sketching a bow. "Canada will never forget your kindness, Alexx of South-Central France, resident of Manchester, former resident of the US of A. Should we meet up later to do an interview about it?" When he straightened, the brunette girl seemed surprised at Alexx's admission and Simon's head swiveled between the two of them as he tried to understand what kind of mysterious thing he'd accidentally stumbled upon. Maybe Alexx was actually a runaway princess from France who'd come to Britain because Britain was a good place for royalty. From the shows he'd seen, you could barely go five feet without stumbling on a King or Queen or second-cousin-twice-removed from the leader of the country.

Attention snapping back to Meenauh, he tried to remember what he knew about Manchester. It was a city in England, right? He was pretty sure they had a hockey team in the EIHL, though he knew a lot more about the NHL than the Elite Ice Hockey League. Supposedly different places in Britain had different accents but they all sounded the same to him. "Why thank you," he laughed in answer to Meenauh's comment, always pleased to amuse. "Is it true you have breakfast, tea, lunch, second tea, supper, then third tea in Manchester?" It was an open question for whoever wanted to answer, and it sounded right; he felt like he'd read that somewhere. British people were basically Hobbits.

At the end of his sentence, Greg popped out from where the rat had been sleeping in his hood to stare quizzically at the two new faces. The rat's nose twitched as he sniffed the air, then suddenly went bolting back into Simon's hood at the sight of Alexx's little pink ball of fluff. Speaking of the pink ball of fluff, Simon eyed it with both curiosity and caution as well. He'd seen some of those things around but he didn't know much about them and if Greg was scared then he decided he'd be wary around it too. You never knew what creatures were dangerous in the magic world, and a girl like Alexx looked like she might own a dangerous beast or two.
