The Multiverse
There are a few settings we visit throughout this story.
The story begins in the future of 2052. Space travel has advanced over the decades. Earth’s technology has also advanced. Cars have been replaced by electric cars, all buildings have solar panels, and they have successfully sent humans to Mars. Their next goal is to travel to Venus. Their ship is called Freya after the Norse goddess of love. The space ship is very big. It includes a sitting area, a gym, the bedroom quarters, and a control center. But despite its size it can still get crowded with six astronauts living in it. It’s been built for many years of space travel. The fuel it uses is organic and not toxic to the earth’s atmosphere. The space ship was built in 2045, it took 7 years to build. They have taken inspiration from older ships and integrated their new technology into it.
At the beginning of the story the characters are travelling to Venus and they are almost halfway there. A strange storm hits them and damages their ship. They are surrounded by dark purple mass almost as if they are inside an amethyst geode. They abort the mission and return to Earth. They arrive at the NASA space station in Houston. The space station is completely empty. When they left there was an entire team on the ground looking over their operations. The place was full of people around every corner. Now it’s deserted. Which is strange because there should still be a team of people there. They would never leave when there are astronauts still in space. They left for their mission at the end of winter and came back in the middle of spring. Texas in the spring is very beautiful. It is full of colourful flowers and blooming trees. The temperature is warm and sunny with the occasional rain storm.
The next setting is the main character’s house. She lives in Houston, Texas. It is a modest size. Not too flashy even though they can afford it. It has 1 garage, 2 floors, a living room, 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, and a finished basement. Inside the house there are many photographs of her family; her, her husband, her parents, her grandparents, and the family dog. The backyard is a little bit bigger than average. They have a patio with a table and chairs. Her husband loves to garden so they have a wonderful array of flowers; begonias, roses, petunias, and tulips and vegetables; tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and eggplant. It’s one of the reasons why they wanted a big backyard. The other reason was because of their German Sheppard. They moved there the year the main character had got promoted to astronaut, they wanted to be closer to NASA.
After the main character has a strange encounter she meets with her fellow astronauts at a diner. The reason they all went here was because they all agreed they have lunch together there after they came back from space. They didn’t want to lose touch with each other. When they arrived the diner was full of people but nobody recognizes them which is weird because they were on every news station across the continent not too long ago. Here is where they all recount their strange encounters.
The diner is located just 20 minutes away from the main character’s house. It is called Geltz’s diner, named after the owner. It was established in 1995. It is a classic 50’s diner and is a popular hot spot in the town of Westbourne, Texas. They serve food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, nachos, fries, and salad. Also some deserts such as key lime pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cheesecake, milkshakes, and chocolate cake.
After the diner they all leave together to a quieter place so they can discuss what’s going on. They decide to go back to the NASA space station. It’s still empty. They go to one of the offices. It’s big enough to fit the six of them and equipped with a computer so they can do some research. They conclude that they are not on their Earth but another Earth. The most likely possibility is that they are in another multiverse. They have no idea how to get home. They take a look at their ship to see what needs repairs. The fuel engine has been damaged a great amount and it will take a long time to repair. Since they can’t go home they take refuge in some of the offices of NASA.
Earth is very technologically advanced in the year 2052. As I’ve mentioned before there are only electric cars and solar panels are used for electricity. The world has worked toward a more environmentally friendly place. Plastics were also replaced with more biodegradable material. Buildings look mostly the same just with solar panels on top. Cell phones have gotten smaller. They had almost released a phone with a 10 inch screen. But it received backlash because it seemed inconvenient to carry around and didn’t make it past the prototype phase. Since then phones have been shrinking down to a more practical size. The average size is now 5”.
The latest trend in fashion is the 2010s are making a comeback. They include skinny jeans, tunics, floral print dresses, mini and maxi skirts, motorcycle jackets, overalls, jogger pants, flat boots, stiletto shoes, Nike Tempo shorts, pastel and neon colored shorts, ballet flats, and combat boots. Only some of our characters follow these trends while others just wear what they feel comfortable in.
We also visit the main character’s parent’s house. They live in Georgia in a small townhouse. It is the house their children grew up in. There are 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a living room, and an unfinished basement. They have a small backyard.
Other locations are the other’s characters’ houses as well as the characters’/characters’ parents’ country of origin, we don’t see them in the main point of view but they are briefly mentioned.

The Multiverse
My main character’s full name is Lissandra Lupei, her nickname is Lisa. She was born on September 25, 2011 in Georgia, United States. She is 41 years old, 5’7 with brown eyes and brown wavy hair. Her complexion is dark. She likes to wear casual clothing and occasionally she likes to wear dresses.
Her positive traits are strong-willed, persistent, and athletic. Her negative traits are stubbornness, perfectionist to the point where she struggles to finish things, and she can take things too seriously. She’s often in a content mood but it’s hard to read her expression. She doesn’t joke around too much but she can lighten up once in a while. Her greatest achievement was first when she became an astronaut and finally when she became commander. Her greatest fear is failure. She doesn’t want to disappoint her family, they’ve done so much for her to succeed and she doesn’t want to waste all their efforts. She would be crushed if she failed any of her classes and didn’t graduate. She’s also afraid of failing her mission to Venus and her colleagues dying on her watch. Being a commander is a big responsibility and one mistake can lead to catastrophic failure.
She is at most ease when she does things right and makes the right decisions. She gets angry when she makes mistakes, she doesn’t allow herself room to make mistakes. She puts her family first and always takes care of them when needed. If she could have one wish it would be to have her mission succeed and get her astronauts home safely. She has a soft spot for her family and friends, she always lets them know this. She loves a good adventure, even small ones like taking a road trip.
Her biggest regret was when she rebelled against her parents as a teen. She was embarrassed of their poor lifestyle and wanted to hide it from others so she tried to disassociate with them. She spent her small allowance on things she didn’t need until they stopped giving her allowance. She got really angry at them for that and they had a big fight. She stopped rebelling once she realized that she was being ungrateful for what her parents did for her. She felt really bad because it wasn’t their fault that they were poor and she shouldn’t feel embarrassed. She began making friends with the right people after that and was open about her situation.
Her hometown is Georgia. Her parents are immigrants from Haiti. They struggled financially, but she was very loved by her parents so she didn’t feel like she was robbed of a good childhood. Her most important childhood memory was when she was feeling bad about her parents having to spend money on her and they couldn’t afford most luxuries like a car, or fancy clothing and her mother told her not to stress about the things they don’t have and take joy in the things they do have. Her childhood hero, other than her parents, is Valentina Tereshkova, who was the first woman to go to space. Lissandra had dreamt big when she was a child, she always wanted to be an astronaut and she worked very hard to become one. She went to California Institute of Technology on a scholarship and got a PhD in Astrophysics.
She has become very wealthy since working at NASA and has gladly gave some of her earnings to her parents and grandparents despite their many protests.
She lives in Houston, Texas, her and her husband moved there when she was promoted to astronaut. Before that they lived in her hometown. They have a German Sheppard named Oliver.
The first time she went to space was an amazing experience for her. They only travelled around Earth’s orbit but she loved it. She felt at peace viewing the world from the ship and thought it looked so beautiful. She never wanted to leave but she also wanted to see her family again.
The second she went into space they travelled to mars. It wasn’t the first time humans were sent to mars. They did some experiments and took home some samples. It was another great experience for her.
After that Lissandra was promoted to Commander. She was very happy when she received the news. Her next mission in space was a big one, she and her crew were going to be the first astronauts to go to Venus.
Her mother’s name is Madeline, her father’s name is Simon, and she has one younger sibling named Wesley. Wesley has a little deep rooted jealousy of his sister but he tries to not let it show. He feels that she is the favourite of the family but that isn’t true. Other than that their family is very close.
Her husband is named Sebastian. They have decided not to have children because of her busy career. They met in High School, but didn’t get together until they met again at a friend’s party.
Her grandmother, Judith and grandfather, Philippe moved to the United States a few years ago because her mother wanted to take care of them in their old age.
She likes alternative rock and some pop songs. Her favourite food is traditional Haitian food and her favourite dish is Diri Djon Djon which is rice and black mushrooms. She likes to read on her free time and her favourite kind of novels are sci-fi. She played soccer in school and did very well. She has won several trophies.
She is a realist, extrovert, who likes to do adrenaline activities. She always thinks logically, keeps her space neat, and she loves working. She is also very confident in herself. She generally likes people as long as they are nice to her. She doesn’t hide her opinions from others but she does hide her emotions. She always go to her mother for advice. Since she was a kid she always thought she was the wisest person she knew. She ultimately learns to not take things too seriously and to stop being so hard on herself.

Secondary characters:
Bianca Espinosa is a secondary character. Her birthday is August 12, 2022. She is 30 years old. She has light brown skin, brown eyes, and curly dark brown hair. She is upbeat and outgoing however that can sometimes annoy the others. She is often a happy person and doesn’t like to take life too seriously. She fears that she isn’t liked by others, she’s a people pleaser and wants everyone to like her. She enjoys being in a crowd and being the center of attention. She hates when people ignore her.
She wants to do great at her job because all her life she’s been told that she would never be an astronaut and a chemist. People often judge her as being unintelligent because of her bold personality but she proved them wrong by getting a PhD in chemistry. She was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States when she was 10. She currently lives with her husband and 5 year old son. She will miss them both very much and will try to talk to them every day.
She also misses her parents and grandmother. She is very close with her grandmother and respects her a lot. She can be a stern woman but she does it out of love. She helped Bianca keep on track with her studies and she also made her the confident woman she is today. Although her grandmother is proud of what her granddaughter has become she will be disappointed that Bianca will be missing church.
Bianca is very optimistic and she tends to keep her fellow astronauts’ spirits up. Her personality has made her very popular in high school and post-secondary school. She’s had a few boyfriends and girlfriends before meeting her husband. They met at a concert and got along very well. They married a few years later.

The next secondary character is named Junwoo Yi. He was born on August 2, 2013. He is 39 years old. He is average height, with blue eyes and straight black hair. He wears glasses. He has a scar on his left knee from falling off his bike. He likes to ride his bike and do dangerous stunts. Before he went to university he took part in several competitions and won a few. He also was interested in the mechanisms of bikes, manual and electric.
His parents are immigrants from South Korea. He has visited there a few times to see his grandparents and other relatives who still live there. He’s happy to see his family and spend time with them. He likes to immerse himself into the culture and, even though he was born and lives in the United States, he feels more at home in South Korea. His favourite part of his culture is Chusŏk which is the harvest moon festival, often referred to as the Korean Thanksgiving. This is the time of the year when they visit.
He is the engineer of the mission. He went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and got his degree in engineering. In high school he wasn’t very popular and was bullied for liking the science and math classes and not being very athletic. But that didn’t stop him from pursuing a career in science. He often wonders what his classmates think of him now that he is going to be a part of history.
He is married and has two kids. He met his wife, Zauna, at an airport. He was coming back from South Korea and she was leaving to Nigeria to see her family. She dropped one of her papers and Junwoo ran to give it to her. They met again a month later at a grocery store and they both remembered each other. They married 4 years later. They have one son named Ndulue and one daughter named Minsun.

Another secondary character is named Victor Teves. He was born June 26, 2009. He is 43 years old. He is 6’3 with hazel eyes and light skin. His hair is shaved and dark brown. He was born in the United States. His grandparents are immigrants from Portugal. They moved from there in the 70s due to the Colonial war.
When Victor has free time, which isn’t that often, he likes to paint. When he was younger his parents traveled once a year each to a different place. Victor has painted every city they’ve been to.
People tend to judge him before knowing him. He seems intimidating at first but he is actually very kind. He is a husband to Guiseppina and a father to three kids named Diego, Gabriela, and Samuel. He met his wife at a ski resort in Colorado. What he liked about her was that she wasn’t intimated by him and didn’t judge him by his appearance.
He is the medic of the crew. He went to Yale School of Medicine and got his PhD there. He almost didn’t make it into Yale. During the SATs his grandfather had passed away and he was devastated. He had a hard time studying for the exams and almost opted out of it all together. But his family helped him through it and he took the exams and he scored just high enough to get into Yale.
What also helped him get in was his extracurricular activities. He was part of the chemistry club and the art club in high school. He managed to balance both activities while maintaining straight A’s throughout the four years. Some of his friends got bullied once for being a part of these clubs but he stepped in and stood up for them non-violently. The bullies were afraid of Victor as he was big even in high school and his friends were never bullied again.

The next secondary character is Katelyn Ivers. Her nickname is Kate. She was born on May 5, 2024 and she is 28 years old. She is 5’2 and has green eyes, fair skin, freckles on her cheeks, and thin ginger red hair. She was born deaf. She is the first deaf astronaut to go into space. She has invented her own systems to make space travel accessible for her such as vibrating bracelets to inform her of different notifications and even an improved speech to text system for her spacesuit. When she is speaking to her fellow astronauts through her space suit she just has to use Morse code on the reader on her wrist and it will translate it to text.
She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. She’s lived there most of her life until she was accepted into astronaut training at NASA. Her family moved closer to Houston. Her cousins still live in Saskatchewan so she often visits them.
Kate went to University of California-Berkeley to get her degree in Botany. She has always loved plants but her love for botany goes beyond just plants. She is an environmentalist and she wants to help the Earth improve. When she had time off she would help promote the usage of electric cars as opposed to gas cars. She also took part in the movement to have houses use solar panels for electricity.
She has faced many challenges due to her being deaf. She went to a deaf school up until she went to University. She had to get a translator but it was difficult to follow along since the professor spoke quickly and it was sometimes hard to tell when the students are speaking or when the professor is speaking. She also had trouble with group projects since no one wanted her in their group. But she overcame this by making some friends in her class who learned to be patient with her.

Surya Leila Halder is another secondary character in the story. Her coworkers and friends call her Sury. She was born on January 13, 2018 and she is 34 years old. She is 5’5 with brown eyes, dark skin, and straight black hair. She wear glasses and has a beauty mark on her cheek. She is very friendly and only a little outgoing. She is always making sure her coworkers are getting enough sleep and eating enough. She was born in Mymensingh, Bangladesh but she only lived there for a couple of years of her life. They moved to Pennsylvania and lived there for 10 years before moving to Ohio.
One thing she hasn’t told her parents is that she has a girlfriend. Her parents are very religious and she is afraid they will not approve. Her and her family practice Hindu faith. She met her girlfriend at the library at Harvard. While Sury was going there for space navigation, her now girlfriend, Meera, was studying law. She and Sury are planning to get married after they come out to their parents. They’ve been putting this off for a while now.
One of Sury’s pastimes is playing the piano. She fell in love with the piano at the age of 6 when her parents took her to a classical music concert. That is also her favourite genre of music. She listens to it whenever she can and in whatever mood she’s in. Her favourite classical music artist is Franz Schubert. She likes to play his pieces a lot.
Her favourite holiday is Holi, the festival of colours which takes place every Spring. Although the festival is not big in Bangladesh, some do celebrate it. They celebrate every year. Sury loves the colours and she loves getting together with families from all over South Asia and learning about their other culture traditions.

She also misses her parents and grandmother. She is very close with her grandmother and respects her a lot. She can be a stern woman but she does it out of love. She helped Bianca keep on track with her studies and she also made her the confident woman she is today. Although her grandmother is proud of what her granddaughter has become she will be disappointed that Bianca will be missing church.
Bianca is very optimistic and she tends to keep her fellow astronauts’ spirits up. Her personality has made her very popular in high school and post-secondary school. She’s had a few boyfriends and girlfriends before meeting her husband. They met at a concert and got along very well. They married a few years later.

The next secondary character is named Junwoo Yi. He was born on August 2, 2013. He is 39 years old. He is average height, with blue eyes and straight black hair. He wears glasses. He has a scar on his left knee from falling off his bike. He likes to ride his bike and do dangerous stunts. Before he went to university he took part in several competitions and won a few. He also was interested in the mechanisms of bikes, manual and electric.
His parents are immigrants from South Korea. He has visited there a few times to see his grandparents and other relatives who still live there. He’s happy to see his family and spend time with them. He likes to immerse himself into the culture and, even though he was born and lives in the United States, he feels more at home in South Korea. His favourite part of his culture is Chusŏk which is the harvest moon festival, often referred to as the Korean Thanksgiving. This is the time of the year when they visit.
He is the engineer of the mission. He went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and got his degree in engineering. In high school he wasn’t very popular and was bullied for liking the science and math classes and not being very athletic. But that didn’t stop him from pursuing a career in science. He often wonders what his classmates think of him now that he is going to be a part of history.
He is married and has two kids. He met his wife, Zauna, at an airport. He was coming back from South Korea and she was leaving to Nigeria to see her family. She dropped one of her papers and Junwoo ran to give it to her. They met again a month later at a grocery store and they both remembered each other. They married 4 years later. They have one son named Ndulue and one daughter named Minsun.

Another secondary character is named Victor Teves. He was born June 26, 2009. He is 43 years old. He is 6’3 with hazel eyes and light skin. His hair is shaved and dark brown. He was born in the United States. His grandparents are immigrants from Portugal. They moved from there in the 70s due to the Colonial war.
When Victor has free time, which isn’t that often, he likes to paint. When he was younger his parents traveled once a year each to a different place. Victor has painted every city they’ve been to.
People tend to judge him before knowing him. He seems intimidating at first but he is actually very kind. He is a husband to Guiseppina and a father to three kids named Diego, Gabriela, and Samuel. He met his wife at a ski resort in Colorado. What he liked about her was that she wasn’t intimated by him and didn’t judge him by his appearance.
He is the medic of the crew. He went to Yale School of Medicine and got his PhD there. He almost didn’t make it into Yale. During the SATs his grandfather had passed away and he was devastated. He had a hard time studying for the exams and almost opted out of it all together. But his family helped him through it and he took the exams and he scored just high enough to get into Yale.
What also helped him get in was his extracurricular activities. He was part of the chemistry club and the art club in high school. He managed to balance both activities while maintaining straight A’s throughout the four years. Some of his friends got bullied once for being a part of these clubs but he stepped in and stood up for them non-violently. The bullies were afraid of Victor as he was big even in high school and his friends were never bullied again.

The next secondary character is Katelyn Ivers. Her nickname is Kate. She was born on May 5, 2024 and she is 28 years old. She is 5’2 and has green eyes, fair skin, freckles on her cheeks, and thin ginger red hair. She was born deaf. She is the first deaf astronaut to go into space. She has invented her own systems to make space travel accessible for her such as vibrating bracelets to inform her of different notifications and even an improved speech to text system for her spacesuit. When she is speaking to her fellow astronauts through her space suit she just has to use Morse code on the reader on her wrist and it will translate it to text.
She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. She’s lived there most of her life until she was accepted into astronaut training at NASA. Her family moved closer to Houston. Her cousins still live in Saskatchewan so she often visits them.
Kate went to University of California-Berkeley to get her degree in Botany. She has always loved plants but her love for botany goes beyond just plants. She is an environmentalist and she wants to help the Earth improve. When she had time off she would help promote the usage of electric cars as opposed to gas cars. She also took part in the movement to have houses use solar panels for electricity.
She has faced many challenges due to her being deaf. She went to a deaf school up until she went to University. She had to get a translator but it was difficult to follow along since the professor spoke quickly and it was sometimes hard to tell when the students are speaking or when the professor is speaking. She also had trouble with group projects since no one wanted her in their group. But she overcame this by making some friends in her class who learned to be patient with her.

Surya Leila Halder is another secondary character in the story. Her coworkers and friends call her Sury. She was born on January 13, 2018 and she is 34 years old. She is 5’5 with brown eyes, dark skin, and straight black hair. She wear glasses and has a beauty mark on her cheek. She is very friendly and only a little outgoing. She is always making sure her coworkers are getting enough sleep and eating enough. She was born in Mymensingh, Bangladesh but she only lived there for a couple of years of her life. They moved to Pennsylvania and lived there for 10 years before moving to Ohio.
One thing she hasn’t told her parents is that she has a girlfriend. Her parents are very religious and she is afraid they will not approve. Her and her family practice Hindu faith. She met her girlfriend at the library at Harvard. While Sury was going there for space navigation, her now girlfriend, Meera, was studying law. She and Sury are planning to get married after they come out to their parents. They’ve been putting this off for a while now.
One of Sury’s pastimes is playing the piano. She fell in love with the piano at the age of 6 when her parents took her to a classical music concert. That is also her favourite genre of music. She listens to it whenever she can and in whatever mood she’s in. Her favourite classical music artist is Franz Schubert. She likes to play his pieces a lot.
Her favourite holiday is Holi, the festival of colours which takes place every Spring. Although the festival is not big in Bangladesh, some do celebrate it. They celebrate every year. Sury loves the colours and she loves getting together with families from all over South Asia and learning about their other culture traditions.

The Multiverse
The Plot
Six astronauts go into space to travel to Venus. Everyone one is looking forward to being the first humans on Venus because this has never been done before. They would be famous for decades to come. However they are not able to get to Venus because about halfway through their journey they encounter a storm. They try to wait it out and hope that it goes away quickly with no damage. No such luck. The storm damages their fuel tank and forces them to abort mission. Their communications seemed to also be damaged. They travel back to Earth in low spirits after having to abort the mission. They get back to Earth and find something strange has occurred. Everyone from the space station in Houston is gone. The place is completely empty.
They struggle to find food because they could not find their money or any of their belongings. They find some change in the NASA building and use that for food and transportation but it won’t be enough for their extended stay. The astronauts go home and agree to meet later at the place they were supposed to go to celebrate their successful mission.
When the main character gets home she finds her husband and he’s confused why she didn’t bring home any groceries or why she rang the doorbell instead of using her key. She doesn’t understand and think he’s making a joke until someone who looks just like her arrives. She doesn’t know what to make of this. So she leaves out of fear and meets her friends at the diner. Her other crew mates have had similar encounters. No one at the place recognizes them either and they were on TV not too long ago.
The astronauts spend their time trying to get home. They stay in the NASA building which is still completely empty. They try to fix their space craft because it has taken a lot of damage from the storm they encountered. Later on they discover that they have landed in another Multiverse.
They end up breaking some laws by stealing, they hope that since they’re in another universe it won’t affect them. However they find out that it’s affected their doppelgangers. They have been caught on camera trying to steal food, water and other supplies from the grocery store and their counterparts got charged to their confusion.
The astronauts try to clear this up but end up digging themselves into more trouble. They try to explain their story but most people are scared and confused. They get taken into a government facility where they ask them questions about how they got here, why they’re here, and what they are and then they get experimented on. They are all put in separate rooms but they can still communicate with each other. They work together and use their strength and skills to break out of the government facility.
Once free they are relived that they are no longer being experimented on and trapped but now they are back to square one because they have lost their money and things. This time they are stranded in the middle of a desert. Lucky for them they have trained for moments like this. In case their space craft crashed somewhere in the desert. They use that training to survive. Which includes how to stay cool during the day and how to stay warm during the night, how to get water and food, and how to make a shelter. Slowly they make their way back to the NASA building. They all agree not to leave again because their pictures are all over the news and they don’t want to get caught again.
They spend some time contemplating what happened over the course of the week. They want to make sure everyone is ok. All hope is not lost because they can still fix the space ship but they decide to take a break. Not everyone was on board with the break though. Some of them got into a disagreement which turned into an argument.
Finally they are able to fix the space craft but now they realize they have no idea how to get home. They do some research again. They are not giving up. They take one of the rocks that has been lodged into the fuel tank and study it. From there they figure out the substance of the rock and find traces of a black hole. They fuel up and go into orbit. If they can find the black hole again then they might be able to get home.
Eventually they find the black hole and head back for Earth. The space ship gets damaged again so they hope they are in the right multiverse this time. They know it’s the right one when their communications come back to life. They land at the space station and find their crew on the ground is there. It’s a relief for everyone to know they made it back home safely.
The main characters all go back home to see their families. We follow the main character home. Not only is her husband there but the rest of her family are there as well. She is really happy to see them. They have dinner and she lets them know what happened.
The next day she meets up with her fellow astronauts at the diner, the same one they all agreed to go to. This time they get recognized and applauded. The diner was so happy that they chose their place that they gave the astronauts free dinner and desert.

Surya is afraid to tell her parents the truth about herself. That she is a lesbian and she has a girlfriend. She has met her girlfriend, Meera, at the Harvard Library. They started off as friends. Meera was working part time in the library and she was helping Sury find a book. It was a fiction book which Meera had read and really enjoyed. She asked Sury to let her know her thoughts on the book when she was done. They started to hang out more after that. They bonded over their love of books, classical music, and similar cultures. Meera is also Hindi and she plays the violin. They have attended concerts together and played music together.
Meera, who was comfortable with her sexuality had no problem admitting to herself that she was developing feelings toward Sury but Sury had constantly questioned herself whether she liked Meera as a friend or more than that. Her second year at Harvard was when she finally admitted it to herself. She told Meera shortly after and that’s when their relationship started.
Meera is now lawyer and Sury is an astronaut. They have their own place and they have been living together for over 5 years. They want to get married after Sury gets back from her mission to Venus. But they still have not told their parents yet and they want them to know before they get engaged. Their families think they are just friends. They have met each other’s families and got along really well.
Her crew mates do know about this and know about her struggle. However she tries not to bring it up so much because she wants to focus on the mission and not about her problems on Earth because all that could wait. She only brings it up when they are all in the diner together because she saw herself married and happy. But she only states it as a matter of fact rather than a problem. However they can tell that she is sad about it and try to comfort her.
She is unsure whether to take this information as how her own parents would react or if this will only happen in this universe. But seeing her family happy and together drove her to the decision of finally coming out to her parents. As soon as she gets back she will tell them.
She does go through with coming out to her parents when she gets back and they accept her. Meera also told her parents and, although they were a little skeptical at first, they eventually accepted it. She and her girlfriend planned their wedding and got married a year later. Although we don’t get to see it in the story it is mentioned by her to her crew mates.

Her parents, Lucas and Marta, and siblings, Joseph, Linda, and Danny have all learned sign language. She went to T. N. Samuels, a school for deaf children, located in Regina. It opened in 2023. They had to move there from Melfort. When she got to University she has a hard time adjusting to going to a hearing school.
She has over the years learned to read people’s lips but she cannot speak herself so she can know what someone is saying to her but she cannot communicate back to them. This led her to develop a better system of text-to-speech. It was much faster than what they already had. However the system requires you to learn Morse code. It was still well received and she has won several awards for it.
All of this made her realize that maybe space travel was possible for her. She had always dreamed of going into space but never thought she could achieve it. After her realization she started working on these systems on space suits. NASA had allowed her to do so. She also worked on a bracelet that vibrates to let her know the announcements. Different vibrations means different things. For an emergency it will vibrate three times. For new emails it will vibrate once. Her work station also has mirrors so she can see her crew mates walking in and around so she doesn’t knock into them.

Especially when they were all locked in different rooms at the government facility. She could not hear her crew mates talking to each other and she felt alone.
