James stood curiously in the large, wooden shelves of the library. In his hands he held a small, brown leather journal with the words "Study of Magical Creatures" etched onto a golden plate placed on the front of the journal. Inside was several notes about creatures like Bowtruckles, Kneazles, and Hippogriffs. There was also a few notes on a topic he was searching for in the library, animagi. From James' research, animagi were creatures able to shift their physical forms into animals. The topic was fascinating, and also exciting for the animal-obsessed first year. Moments passed by as he looked through the library, not being able to find anything. He found one book on the topic, and began to have an inner sense of enjoyment and happiness.

Carrying the book within his arms, his journal atop the cover, James sat down at one of the tables, resting the books side-by-side on the wooden surface. He began to flip through the pages of the book, finding several key information that he didn't know about until now. While doing this, he had his journal open to the back-pages, which were dedicated to animagi. The natural phenomenon of the people made James want to know more and more, continuously reading through the book. More and more notes were being scribbled down by the second, and even James started to wonder when he was going to stop.

While he was researching on the topic of animagi, James found something else, patronuses. Like animagi, patronuses were the animal form of one's self. However, unlike animagi, patronuses were a different being from the creator. He flipped through some blank pages, and created a section called "Patronuses" in his journal. James started to hear footsteps, each one getting louder than the last. Not wanting to worry about it, James shrugged it off and continued to write down his findings. More and more things arose as he read through the book, but the footsteps continued to get louder. The source of the footsteps had walked into the tall room filled with books known as the library. He was a fellow ravenclaw based off of his uniform. James looked at him as he entered the room, trying not to drag attention to himself.

Horace was wandering the castle with nothing interesting to be seen. After a while he just gave up on his escapade and instead decided to spend time in the library. The library has been his favorite place since he came to hogwarts.

The huge room with rows of shelves and a sea of books about all kinds of magic this was a dream come true for him. Horace wasn't a shy or introvert when he was in the library instead he became very confident. He was walking along the shelves with a huge smile on his face as he looked through the books to find something interesting. As he was busy with his books he noticed a boy sitting on a table writing some notes as it seemed. He was a fellow ravenclaw but Horace still hasn't seen him around before its not like he met every ravenclaw but he at least did know many of them.

He approached the boy "Hey! I am Horace. Horace Vargas. Never saw you around before. What are you writing about by the way?" Horace leaned over to see the journal on the table and it read 'Patronuses'. His eyes widened looking at the topic "Well well you must be quiet a wizard to start learning about patronus charm in your first year!" he said with a smile.

The ravenclaw approached him, and James immediately felt a wave of shock when he walked up to the table he was sitting at.  "Hey! I am Horace. Horace Vargas. Never saw you around before. What are you writing about by the way?" said the ravenclaw. "Oh this thing? It's nothing, just a few notes about magical creatures and such..." James said, dipping a light, golden quill into a pot of ink. The boy had mentioned the topic of patronuses, an odd thing for him to bring up at such a time like this. "Well well you must be quiet a wizard to start learning about patronus charm in your first year!" said Horace, who James noticed had a smile on his face. "O-oh this? It's just a few notes, not anything important... I'm the last person anyone would want to learn to come to for advice on a patronus charm... I couldn't conjure one myself even if I tried..." The timid ravenclaw said, swiftly writing down in his journal.
Patronus; Study of Magical Creatures: James Henderson                                                          PG 67
The patronus charm is the animal-form of one's secret self. It can be reflective of a person's favorite animal, or more commonly, one's deepest, darkest hopes, desires, fears, and emotions that the person themselves may not even know. Unlike animagi, patronuses are separate entities from their creator. The charm has the ability to ward off dementors, soul-sucking creatures that can steal memories from a person and even suck up their soul entirely.

A second passed by of silence, as James struggled to overcome his nervousness in the situation. "My name's James. James Henderson." James said, reaching out his hand for a friendly greeting. James had a smile on his face, willing to make a new friend on his journey through his school years.

The boy told him about how he was just doing a bit of research and nothing important. Horace totally understood his hunt for the sake of curiosity. After all he loved to read random books about interesting topics far off his syllabus or even his understanding. "Its not that hard i guess even if i haven't even tried yet but my uncle once showed me how its done and it just felt like some other usual spell" He said looking at the notes on the table.

He was reading through the notes which he found rather detailed and well described then the boy introduced himself "My name's James. James Henderson." he said. Horace looked at him puzzled as he took a seat beside him. Horace usually remembered everyone he met at least the names but in James' case he got really confused as he never heard about the Henderson's before which was a bit weird as he thought he knew about every wizarding family ever so slightly. "Henderson huh? hmm Irish?........no no wait Scottish........yeah it must be that right? have we met before? i am afraid i don't remember your family....." he rambled on awkwardly as he found it a bit embarrassing.

James was slightly confused at the boy's comment. Why would the boy know James' family? It's not like they were important or anything, or at least not very important to most. "Yeah, Scottish..." James said, still trying to break the long awkwardness of the silence that surrounded them. He let out a small, fake chuckle trying to think of ways the conversation could continue, or ways James could go back to his own private bubble he was formerly in. James began to flip through his journal, seeing if there was anything he could add to it. James began to stand up, taking with him the book he was previously reading.

James went over to the tall, wooden pillars and quickly went back to the shelves. He placed the book in its proper place, and grabbed a new one on Hippogriffs. He'd knew he spent endless nights researching this kind of stuff, but thought that he might as well read it again. The library was practically where he slept, as he almost always spent his nights in the library, researching information for his journal. James grabbed a copy of "The Handbook of Hippogriff Psychology" and paced back to the table he was previously sat at.

"Sorry about that, had to get a copy of something," James said, placing the book on his table. James began to flip to a page on Hippogriffs, which contained things like where their native to, what they eat, things like that. "So, where are you from?" James asked, looking back at the other boy.
