OC: PV is really up to @Reid Kovacs, he defines who joins.
A mark of obsession, a solitary figure standing in the rain staring out at an empty Quidditch field. Well, mostly empty, her eyes were trained on a single person whom was humoring himself with a ball not unlike a cat batting about a ball of string in her opinion. She did not understand the concept of "football" or as Americans would call it, "soccer." She saw it as needless footwork about a strange leather sphere. The rain had just started but she was unbothered, she simply continued to stare. She was not hiding her madness, why would she bother? Kovacs knew that she was onto him, there was no use hiding it.

She was studying him, memorizing his patterns and trying to glean what weaknesses he might have. Reid Kovacs was a rather popular boy, well liked by most circles of boys as well as girls. He belonged to the Hufflepuff House, so he was probably a cream puff. Actually scratch that, he was no damn cream puff. He took that blow to the face as good as any chick.

While most would liken her interest in the 'stud' (girls have no taste) to some sort of romantic interest or a harmless crush, there was very much harmful intentions and no romantic interest. Reid was the mastermind of the part-giant/death witch uprising. He was either a death witch or a midget giant, she thought it was the later until her meeting with death witches Max and Eris. Reid might be a a death witch. She would have let Reid carry on with whatever his nefarious plans might have been had he not taken what was hers. Her 'friend' (at least to her, she did not know it was a lie) Thomas LeStrange was missing, he had been missing for months much like others. She assumed that he was either dead or that he would return a changed boy, much like Howard White. In either case, he would not be hers any longer.

She wanted to not only understand why but she also wanted to destroy him.

The rain hit his face a few times, but his mind was trained on the championship he was winning in his mind. Technique and footwork, he was understanding it. What became a simple exercise of fun to him became a solid routine almost every day or every other day. The grass beneath him shifted along with the muddy chunks as his foot grounded into it.

He welcomed the weather, it was a change of pace and it made everything feel more intense. It was like those movies or commercials where it was a montage of just the character doing something intense in the rain. His imagination ran him wild and pumped the blood in his heart even if it was as simple as playing ball alone. It served as a distraction from the fact that he was just like everyone else, he wasn't the hero of his own story.

Even if he was, he didn't feel like it. Here he was in his third year, his mum in St. Mungo's and his dad back in Hungary, he wasn't warmly received by his new family and his uncle was his only lifeline. Life felt like a reality check, but just for a little while, he wanted to live the life of someone great - even if it was just football in the rain.

Little did he know, someone was watching him - someone with nefarious intentions perhaps. But it didn't occur to him until his eye trained on the individual from across the way. Oh Merlin's beard, it was none other than Erin Ryan. At first, he ignored her - maybe she was just out here looking for someone else. He concerned himself with the ball that bounced from his feet, running back and fourth just to catch it.

But after a few minutes, he realized that she wasn't moving and he began to grow a little uneasy at her staring. Eventually, he came to a full stop and picked up his ball. His gray hoodie was darkened by the water, his shorts dripped wet, and from his knees to his shoes was a layer of mud. His green eyes peeked from behind his matted hair as he slowly and carefully approached the Slytherin girl.

"Are you looking for something?" His voice wasn't as inviting as it normally was, simply because he barely forgave the girl for punching him that other time. By now, he knew who Erin Ryan might be, a bully of sorts and he couldn't help but be on the defense about it.

Unmoving in the pouring rain she watched the Prefect. She did not understand what he was doing or what his fascination was with the leather sphere that occupied him. She was studying how he moved, especially on the slick terrain. The rain made it harder for the former Head Boy to hide to lie. The water weighed down not only his hair but also his clothes, they clung to him and she tried to memorize his shape. Had it not been obvious from the start that the young woman was mad, perhaps even a sociopath one would think her focused gaze had a shade of lust. There was no desire for a one Reid Kovacs, not the romantic kind at the very least. However one could say that there was a physical desire for him.

Her heart hastened when Kovacs noticed her, she could tell that her intent gaze gave him pause. Was she afraid? No, she was excited. Erin was after all fearless, despite the irony found in the fact that her actions that drove her to this moment were founded in a paranoid fear. Being fearless for Erin was not a lack of fear to start with, it was exhausting that very fear and using it as fuel to propel her insane form of justice.

She was no Ravenclaw so she did not have a plan. As Reid trudged through the muck in her direction, Erin combed her fingers from her brow back to pull her soaked hair away from her face and broke away from the pillar her back had rested against. She had been there for some time, it was the only part of her that was dry. The shock of a cold stream of water down the valley of her spine gave her a chilled shudder that was betrayed for but a moment in her expression. She stepped towards the approaching Hufflepuff Beater.

"Are you looking for something?"

She eyed him, his expression down to his muddied shoes. There was a definition to his form that distance failed to translate. She knew people better than she knew math, studies or convoluted plans. His face had changed over the summer, he looked older. His form broader than she recalled. His features, symmetrical. "I think you know what I am after, Prefect," Erin replied with a sharp tone as she moved closer. He was likely taller than her, this was when most boys started to spurt past the girls but even if they were not evenly matched size was of minimal importance. After all, she was confident he was death witch rather than a midget giant after Max Avery admitted that he and Eris were both death witches.

"I have been watching your kind for so long..." she exhaled as she diverted her course if she had nearly reached arm's length to circle around him. He could turn, never allow her to leave his line of sight. That would be smart and something he could be successful in, she was not moving particularly fast. There was confidence in the way she held herself, the words she had chosen. "Wondered what you are... What made you so special..." She nearly spat out the words as they escaped her pale lips. "Noticed how a mud-blood such as yourself, hardly exceptional..." She would have made a full circle by this point, had he not turned she would simply look, not touch the young athlete. She was sizing him up.  "Yet a Prefect his first year, then Head Boy by some dangerous omission of logic and now a Prefect once more," she cocked her head to the side like a curious bird. Perhaps viewing him from a different angle would allow her to glean some truth she had overlooked.

"Friend of Ben Eckenrode..." She took a step towards him, finally within melee.

"Complicit if not guilty in the gluttonous tendencies of your Peers." Another step, well within Reid's personal space. Close enough that she could smell him had he not been soaked with rain. Despite this, Reid would smell something strange in the air. It was not awful and it came from Erin, it smelled like she sat too close to a campfire. This hickory wood and ash scent would seem to fill the air.

She would try to deck Reid with her left arm (her weak arm), presuming he would block as to leave an opening for her right to swing around from the outside and attempt to clock him. Would he be able to determine her plan, if he had gotten into enough fights as a kid it was likely intuitive. Her feet were wrong for her to be sucker punching him on the same side as her lead foot, there was no weight or leverage behind it. Of course this was a risky move for Erin as well, she would be temporarily off balance as she attempted to pretend to land a strike on her left. Her weight would be shifted forward rather than back to make that obvious attack and for just a moment she would be vulnerable as she shifted back to her posteriorly placed leg.

MUDBLOOD. The still waters in his heart suddenly turned into a raging sea, toiling and pulling him into a whirlpool of emotions. Reid was an ignorant child, but not ignorant enough to not know what that meant. He already knew what Erin was to him, everything he stood against. She was a bully and uncouth, the things she said and the things she did brutalized his pride. To him, envy drove her actions - he was entirely unaware of her conspiracy of who he was.

He was no death witch, he was no master mind, he just happened to be at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Trouble always found him, in his case, in the form of an angry Slytherin student. Her words stung as much as what she was about to do next, she made him feel undeserving and perhaps he was. But he was here and he was doing his best. Maybe this was it, maybe that was all she had to say. But like her, he knew what it felt to get hit.

Reid was just foolish enough to underestimate the students in this school. He thought he left the violence behind in Derby. All of the skinned knees and the bloody knuckles were left to the school yard boys of his past, he didn't think Hogwarts had people like Erin. Not only that, she was his equal - his match and that alone upset him. "You're crazy -" But that was wrong, because as soon as he brought his hand up to block, the other arm came like a screaming pendulum.

A sharp pain, a grunt, and the world spun as the force of it knocked him to the grass that only somewhat softened his fall. His face stung as it brought some tears to his eyes, as young as he was, he wasn't immune to the agonizing sting of her knuckles. Not only that, he wasn't used to being bested by someone like her. Someone like Erin Ryan, he was a kid with a fragile pride. Rain fell on his face, obscuring his vision but at least it calmed the throbbing on the side of his face.

Anger, his constant companion, had him surging to his feet and instead of attempting a swing back, a shout ripped from his throat. This was war! It had to be, his tolerance for her and the Cold War they waged was coming to an end. His feet took him forward and in the distance between them, Reid was attempting to tackle her to the ground full force. His arms were outstretched, like an American football player trying to get whoever possessed the ball. But in this case, he had just thrown himself forward in blind rage.

"You're crazy -"

Reid was right, the girl was a french fry short of a happy meal to say the least.

The pretty boy could block, perhaps he knew how to fight. Good. She needed one. Her first blow was deflected, so she swung around with her second and knocked him off guard. Erin was strong, despite her rather average-seeming frame she had the physique of an athlete rather than a magician. She could feel the impact in her wrist, the boy had a hard head. She was not going to nurse her wrist as she shook it limply at her side and approached the felled boy.

One punch was certainly not enough to take a Death Witch like Reid Kovacs out, Erin was certain of that. "Why are you helping them?" She asked through gritted teeth as she trudged forward through the mud. Kovacs was rising. That just meant she had another opportunity to knock him down again.

Had she played or even seen American football, she might understand what Kovacs was doing as he rose with a hunkered posture. His weight lower and his center of balance slightly forward. She saw the posture change but it made no sense, to fortify against her attack by becoming an immobile--

He was moving towards her. Her eyes widened, what was he doing? He out-weighed her, in a contest of weight coupled with locomotive force, the Hufflepuff Prefect would be the victor. Erin had too choice -- attempt to evade or stand her ground and allow this to devolve into a contest of strength. She should have chosen the later, in a moment of erroneous judgement she faltered. yes, Reid was heavier than her, he was a moving object whereas she was a still object, but she was just as strong as the third-year and had she simply struck him in transit she might have derailed his less than glamorous tackle.

Erin moved to the right, Reid's left. Most people were right handed and he would be at a deficit on his  opposite side she reasoned. She was caught off-balance, off guard. He would hit her in the lower ribs with his shoulder, she could have sworn she heard a *crack*. His left arm did not extend like she expected, everything would stay close and compact in football. It would not only be foolish but also dangerous to extend a limb - that is how arms are broken and shoulders are dislocated.

OOF!

The air left her lungs in a single large release. The left arm, not wrapping around but finding the curve of the waist to rest on as he knocked her back. Erin's feet slid back over the slick earth several feet before she lost her balance and was knocked back. She did not try to save herself from the fall, it would have been an exercise in futility. Rather, once her footing was lost Erin would bring her knee up. Her aim was for the jewels but considering his pose and the frenzied act itself it was more likely to hit him in the gut.

She would hit the ground, hard. The grass and sponge-like earth would give way some to cushion her fall. She was already soaking wet from the rain but the mud to her back felt as if it was oozing its way inside her clothes. Kovacs on top, every girl's dream less Erin. He did not even feel warm. It was like an angry block of ice was on top of her.

She only had a second before the Prefect would get his bearings. Her best chance was to get some leverage. Her left leg would attempt to wrap around Reid. The rain pelted her in the face. Her right would attempt to bend at the knee. The point right now was to prevent him from pinning her. Her muddied right hand would reach up and attempt to push him up and off as she rolled to the left. Yes, the goal was to get on top of Reid. The other coveted position among the girls (and some of the guys) in Hogwarts for ahem... other reasons.

"Would have thought a death witch used a wand at least," she huffed from either on top or below Kovacs. Regardless of the position, winded and covered in mud and rain. She looked both beautiful and terrible at the same time, like a D rated horror movie where all of the zombies were cheerleaders. "How did a guy like you end up with the likes of them?" Erin's line of questioning likely made no sense to Reid, just the ramblings of a maddened school bully.

From afar, it probably looked like two rabid raccoons vying for dominance over the last piece of sliced cheese. But Reid thought that he had bested her as soon as they connected. "I don't un -" His confidence chipped and crumbled a little as a bone chilling *CRACK* rang through the torrential rain. He broke something perhaps and the guilt caused him to doubt his actions as she moved out and he lost his momentum.

Had he done the right thing? But in a surprise, he found himself slightly pinned under the girl. His back hit the mud and the rain washed some of the debris on his features. "Would have thought a death witch used a wand at least. How did a guy like you end up with the likes of them?" Confusion and frustration shot his hands up to attempt to grab her wrist to prevent further damage to him. If he was successful, he was going to hold from from his face as he talked. Reid wore a scowl so rough that even his past life could probably feel the young kid's distaste for her.

"You're mad! I don't know what the hell you're talking about!" His voice cracked a few times, puberty was a god he had to bow to. It made his clothes not fit and cracked his voice during an argument, rendering it less serious than it was originally intended. Any higher and he would've been mistaken for a cartoon. "I'm not a Death Witch, whatever that is! I'm not even a witch, I'm a wizard. So you can get off me and leave me alone!"

His conclusion was Erin just wanted to play some game that he wasn't in on and that she was just forcing him to LARP as a Death Witch. Perhaps he was the antagonist in her story, but there were plenty of other students who'd want to play her game. His fake championship was all he wanted to roleplay out in his mind, maybe get signed onto his dream team.

Though wanted to be a knight - or Thor, not some smelly Death Witch. But if she was going to try and beat him up for no reason, he was going to have to resort to other measures to keep her away from him. In all honesty, he didn't want to hurt her, but she was like a snake nipping at a honey badger who was close to foaming at the mouth.

His hand curled around her twig thin wrist. It was nothing short of astonishing that the small girl was as powerful as she was. It was one part panic, that adrenaline surging through her as she fought for her life and one part anger towards the unfortunately Hufflepuff that she had become certain was a part of, if not the leader of some nefarious plot. The students were disappearing, it was not as if she had not noticed all this time, but rather she did not care until it effected her and what was hers. She tried to overpower the boy, using her weight to aide her endeavor but the young wizard tensed his arms and she lacked the power to simply overwhelm him, unlike most students her age.

"You're fucking strong," she complained, but still weaker than Healy or Lowe. Most wizards here in Hogwarts were made of wet paper. That was what happens when they spend their life and time refining their magic rather than their body. That was not the case with Kovacs. She tried to hit him again, but his grip despite the slick, cold falling rain held tight.

"You're mad! I don't know what the hell you're talking about!"

"Liar!" She hissed as she shook her head like a wet mongrel. Rivers of rain ran down the sides of her face and soaked her long, dark hair.

"I'm not a Death Witch, whatever that is! I'm not even a witch, I'm a wizard. So you can get off me and leave me alone!"

"That's exactly what a death witch would say!" She cried. "I will get off... I will stop when you give me back my friend or his bones," she demanded. She assumed @Thomas LeStrange was dead, it has been more than six months since she last heard from him. More than six months since he disappeared without a word, a reason or a farewell. Like all the rest. "I am not fucking playing!" She shouted. She was a good actress if this was all a game. She tried again to pull her wrists free, she was stuck. "I could care less whatever you masterminded with the giants. I don't care about your deals... your damn ambitions... Quinn ate my fucking friend and I want his bones or I will spend every waking moment making your life miserable." It was a threat she was making good on right now. Reid likely did not care much for the cracked Slytherin, he did not deserve her wrath but he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time far too many times.

The more that Erin talk, the more Reid became convinced that she was out of her mind. What drove her into this madness and who was she even talking about? A lot of his years had become one huge blur, to try and recall who she was talking about was just difficult. His eyes had grown accustomed to the rain now, but not the pressure the was putting on him. He gritted his teeth and tried to hold her hands as still as he could. "I don't know who the hell told you about any plan or Quinn eating anyone!" he shouted.

Reid's growing frustration was her determination to prove that she was right, to prove that he was up to something, to frame him. He didn't like that, a thought crossed his head, almost scaring him as he thought about landing another swing at her. Violence, his mind was so prone to it that sometimes he was worried he'd go to far. But his morality always seemed to fall on the concept of lex talionis, an eye for an eye.

Hopefully, she wouldn't drive him that far, he didn't want to go that far and neither did he have the self-discipline to walk away. But his clear rage manifested in the vice grip he locked her in, forcing her to talk unless she tried otherwise. "You're mental, goddamn mental. You attack me for no reason, you attacked Ben for no reason, get away from me." His voice dripped with venom, a clear indicator that he was starting to feel cornered in the position he was in.

The rain and the throbbing pain was starting to subside and he got a grip of himself. "Get OFF!" The student attempted to pushed her off of him using his leg and would at the same time, let go of her wrist. If he was successful, he was going to roll over and try and stand up.

The rain pounded on her back. Her knees dug into the mud. She hardly even noticed the cold any longer. Her weight was concentrated on her knees and hips as she tried to pull her arms free. His vice-like grip tightened as she tried to pull her arms free.

"I don't know who the hell told you about any plan or Quinn eating anyone!"

He claimed. He was not denying it. "Maxwell Avery," she obviously did not know 'Max' very well. She tried to pull her arms free again, almost knocking herself off the Hufflepuff. She held her stance with the grip of her thighs. "...and Fawley" what was the midget's first name? "...Erica?" There was the inflection of a question. She had no reason to protect either of them. "The old midget Prefect," but she was able to clearly describe her in so few words.

She yanked again, not that she would get her arm free or fall over. Reid had a good grip of her arms, his life somewhat depended on it. "They told me what you were and it is not like I have not confronted your damn partner Quinn," she was crazy but she was not lying. "Just give me Thomas and you can be on your fucking way!" She wanted his bones as morbid as that sounded. The girl sounded mad but she had names.

"You're mental, goddamn mental. You attack me for no reason, you attacked Ben for no reason, get away from me."

BEN. He had to bring up Ben...

No Reason? NO FUCKING REASON! That was rich. "You don't fucking believe your own bullshit," Erin grunted. "Ben was screwed up, terrorized the school for the better part of the year," a fact made public after he was discovered. Not that Erin was an angel but at least she owned her actions. "After he was caught, people like you just accepted he was what... all better now?" People don't just change suddenly, it takes time and effort. She stubbornly tried to overpower Reid, leaning herself forward onto her arms in hope that the leverage would be enough push or pull herself free.

It would work, but not the way she had intended.

This was Reid's opportunity, not hers.

"Get OFF!"

He relinquished his grip on her arms and knocked out one of her legs. His escape attempt left the unbalanced part-Veela face-down in the mud. A splosh of water muffled the agitated yell that escaped the girl.

Reid had rolled away, looking like something that might have been titled it came from the swamp. Erin hurried to her feet while Reid stood on his. She would wipe the mud from her face with the back of her hand which was also covered in mud. She was caked in earth. She took a few deep breaths through her mouth. She got a taste of mud when she did so.

"They told me what you are," she reiterated, her chest heaving. She was winded. She did not care enough to scrape away the thick player of frigid mud that the rain was slowly washing away. "Why are you protecting the giant?" She did not even call Quinn a part-giant, she only saw the giant. "Why were you protecting Ben!" There was no good reason he could come up with that would settle her madness. "In fact, where the hell did he go? He's gone again isn't he?" She tensed herself and readied herself in case he tried to attack. She actually believed the sermon she was spouting. "Back to his old tricks? Or playing the bullshit role of the victim again?"

Nobody ever seemed to address or even notice when a kid disappeared. "Thought you two were friends?" She shook her head. Friendship was cheap. People made friends too easily and called people they hardly knew or cared for friends. For someone like her, they were rare. People just did not make friends with her, choose to be around her. They did not call her a 'friend'. Maybe it meant something different to her, a girl that hardly seemed sentimental. "People hardly ever believe the words that they say. Mean it either," she admitted.

She moved onto Ben because she was curious. Where did he go? Did Reid know? Did he even care? Was Ben ultimately a victim of his own bullshit? "Would love to get my hands on him..." She smile she made through a veil of mud almost looked perverse. "But I will settle for you."

The scene frightened him in a sense, not only because of the mud, but that Erin was starting to sound, well, ... sound. Sane. In the chaos of this whole ordeal, Reid was starting to listen and he felt a weird feeling form in the pit of his chest. His anger of course didn't exactly calm down with anything else she's said. "In fact, where the hell did he go? He's gone again isn't he? Back to his old tricks? Or playing the bullshit role of the victim again? Thought you two were friends? People hardly ever believe the words that they say. Mean it either." He almost felt something sting his eyes, maybe because the statements hit so close to his heart that he was suddenly losing his footing.

What became a simple altercation clearly left the Hufflepuff's world a little shaken. He looked speechless, his eyes locked on her as the words weighed on him like an anchor that was sipping away at his strength. The anger faded into a jaded sadness as the truth of these last few months were ripped from under him by Erin. His friends, Ben being one of them, were slipping from his fingers and he didn't know why. He didn't understand yet that he couldn't always keep them around.

They'd go their own ways, find their own people, or in Erin's case - just go missing. So her insanity was starting to somewhat make sense and he felt a tinge of guilt in that. The reasoning behind it just didn't sit well, but the actual reason was the same. He probably would go after a person too if someone close to him had disappeared. But he was still going to fight Erin, his pride told him that even if he was wrong in his judgement for both Ben and Erin, he had to stick to his guns.

A fool he was and a fool he was going to be until he'd know better. Reid 'reloaded' his fists at her, trying to summon that anger he had before, "Then come on! Maybe you'll think better if I knock your head a few times! Funny how you're going all through this trouble for someone after what you were on about with 'friendship'!" The frustration came back in the form of the venomous teeth that accompanied his words; why did she go through all of this effort if she didn't sound like a believer in companionship?

He wanted a proper friend and Erin pointed out the fickleness of friendship, here he was, fighting someone who was willing to put themselves in harms way for a friend. Would anyone have done it for him if he went missing? The answer in his heart was; he didn't think so. Why Erin said what she said after going so far to find someone was beyond him, maybe this person was just lucky. The student approached her, fists raise as he went in for the kill, an attempted swing at her side that was followed by an attempt to punch her gut if his swing failed.
