A Badger in a suite

Sunlight danced welcoming through the corridor windows, accompanied by a soothing breeze carrying the chatter of birds off in the distance. The first week of classes had finally came to a close and it seemed most students were either outside, or grabbing dinner from the Great Hall. The young badger chose to be the later. Trudging through the corridors with an amused look on his face - Oliver looked to be a man on a mission. For reasons only known to him; he carried a box nearly twice his size.
It was magic in itself that he hadn’t tripped, or ran into anything nor anyone with his head barely making it over the top of the box. “What do you got, boy” A couple of portraits would ask with quizzical faces as he just happily toddled along. Chatter from the Great Hall carried all the way out into the corridors as students were buzzing for the weekend events. With the end of the first week classes, came the first Quidditch games of term and the excitement was palpable in the Great Hall.
A countless amount of brightly lit candles hovered high above four long crowded tables, making the room glow. An endless sea of food lined the table tops on silver platers and platters enticing the students to eat until their hearts content. Drifting off to the right, Oliver made his way over to the Hufflepuff table and set the box he had been carrying down. “Finally,” He exclaimed as he stretched his stiff arms and peered over the table. Oliver scanned over the table as if looking right at each person like, not you, nope, unlikely, ehh..then finally, found you as Jake fell into his sights.
Jake was a fellow badger that Oliver had only come across a hand few of times. But Ollie just knew that Jake was the only badger for this job he had in mind, and with a devilish grin called out, “Just the Puff I was looking for!” Oliver approached Jake, and patted the shorter first year on the back as he gestured over towards his box.

Jake looked down, a barely-touched plateful of eggs growing cold beside him. It wasn't that the boy wasn't hungry - he was - it was just that he was drawing...and Jake sometimes forgot to eat his breakfast when he was concentrating too hard on his art. As he began to delicately color in the wing of a butterfly, he heard a familiar voice, and raised his head.
"Me...?" Jake repeated, looking behind him for a moment to see if Oliver might have been talking about somebody behind him, but there was nobody there. Then Oliver patted him on the back and he knew that it WAS him Oliver was talking about.
What did Oliver want to talk to him for...? Jake had seen him a couple of times - they had even gone on a horrible scary rule-breaking adventure to the kitchens once together - but he didn't know why Oliver wanted to talk to HIM at breakfast when there were so many other kids to talk to. Then he saw it, and his mouth dropped. Jake stared at the giant box that had somehow been placed down on the table when he wasn't paying attention. If that was a present from the mail he felt really bad for the owl that had had to deliver it.
As Jake stared at the box, wondering what could possibly be inside, Oliver was motioning him towards it. The tiny Hufflepuff slid over closer to Oliver, and looked up quizzically, - what was Oliver trying to show him?

Olivers rare dimpled smile started to show as he noticed Jakes interest peak at the sight of the box. “Curious, I bet.” Oliver started as the two made their way back over to the box. Nothing about the box really stood out except its size and the fact that it had a black and yellow bow seemingly holding it together. “Found it in the locker room, I did.” Ollie explained with a nod as if finding random things came naturally to him. Which oddly enough, it kind of did.
Just as he was about to go into more detail for the young badger - a silver plater lined with Cauldron Cakes caught his attention. Unable to deny his sweet tooth, and arguably feeling like he deserved an award for carrying the box so far; Oliver dug in. “This is a gift just for you.” Oliver managed to speak in between bites. “Had a note attached to it too…” Oliver paused as he searched his pockets. A second later he pulled out a folded parchment. Not wanting to keep poor Jake in anymore suspense Oliver unfolded the note.
The ink was still wet as if it was written only a couple of minutes ago, but Ollie had hope Jake couldn’t see through this. Instead he tried sell it even more. “You’re the most sincere Hufflepuff I know!” Ollie started as he patted the boy on the back again with a wide smile. “You follow the rules, you do your homework on time, and you’re a great friend!” Ollie continued to praise the young badger hoping he would fall for it. “If you reeallllly wanna help the house win the cup this term I think you should open it....” He said as he pushed the box closer to Jake.“To the most sincere Badger,
It is my greatest honor, and responsibility to assure this box reaches the hands it was destined to find. For generations we proud have gathered in cheered in earnest for our dearest Hufflepuff, and because of this our proud loyal house has made it’s reputation. We ask you to continue the tradition.
With love to generations of badgers
-The Badger society.”

A Badger in a suite
Jake nodded his head...he WAS curious. It was one of the biggest boxes he'd ever seen. Not even on Christmas had he ever gotten a box as big as THAT one before. It was bigger than he was! There could be just about anything inside of it. But how could it really be for Jake...? He read the note attached to it, squinting in confusion, until Oliver began to explain.
"Me...?" Jake repeated in awe. He blushed. It couldn't REALLY be for him...could it? He DID follow the rules a lot...and he tried his best to be good. He had done his homework even when it was hard. He hadn't known that he could be a great friend because he hadn't even known he knew how to make friends in the first place...but...maybe he was? Still...was he really...the 'most sincere Badger'? It was all a lot to take in at once.
"A...are ya sure it's for me?" Jake asked again, not able to believe it. He knew one thing about this box - it was VERY important. The kind of things that generations of badgers were depending on. That much was clear from the badger society's note. He had never heard of the Badger society before, but it also MUST have been very important. How could they ever want something like that to go to him...? He could barely even get his wand to work...It seemed impossible that anything as important as that could ever be meant for Jake...there was just no way. But Oliver said it was...and didn't Jake want to help his house? Of course he did.
Jake looked around to see if anybody was going to tell him not to touch it, but nobody did, and so Jake (with some help getting it oriented in a way he could reach) cautiously reached out. He barely wanted to touch it at first - the importance of the box an intimidating sight. He held his breath as he began to open it up, and saw...
"Huh?" Jake blinked, as he pulled out...a full-body badger suit? The suit was dusty, but it was definitely a badger - the accompanying mask made it very clear. The boy held the costume out in front of him and stared at it - perhaps it had shrunk over time because it did appear to be surprisingly just about Jake-sized. "What's this?" he asked.

A Badger in a suite
The sense of mystery shrouding the box, and the attached letter appeared to be hooking the curious badger. Oliver could tell Jake was seconds away from biting the bait he had laid out for him. With a grin the boy just watched his master plan play out. If it wasn’t for him biting his tongue last second, Oliver would’ve let a laugh slip out as Jake pulled out the badger suite confusingly.
“Woah Jake!” Oliver exclaimed as he entered acting mode. “Guys, look what Jake got!.” He was now pulling in some of the other kids nearby to what was unfolding. “That’s the legendary suit Scamander made to help the Quidditch team win the cup!” Oliver said confidently even though he had just made it up. He knew Jake stayed in the Scamander Suite in the dorms and this little “fact” was enough to seal the deal.
Patting Jake on the back Oliver continued to feed the boy nonsense. “Legend has it, the Captain at the time had a crush on him, and created the mascot position as an excuse to keep him around the games, because he was usually with his creatures.” Oliver paused letting the other boy take it all in. “But the suite was rumored to be lost for some decades..” He added the extra spice.
All the nearby students were either just as gullible, or they had caught on to what was going on by the way they were eating up the story as well. Smiling in victory for a brief second as he grabbed the last cake off the plater, before another dozen appeared. “That’s basically a Hufflepuff treasure Jake, wear it with pride.” Oliver said as he chewed his cake.
