Shauna had taken notice of the male Ravenclaw heading towards them upon reaching them he firstly removed his cloak and placed it around Ruthie making her ever grateful for her soaking wet and freezing friend. The male had introduced himself as Jorah and even though his attention was diverted she understood that he was about to ask her name making her chuckle with the way his head snapped towards the game so quickly. As terrible as it sounds had it not been for that, if he had been starring at her or something she'd mostly likely not have been so inclined to answer him however the setting was more relaxed than normal "Name is Shauna by the way; the time we've spent at this school already has been insane. We share a common room with people yet we don't even know their names."
Her eyes darted around the game for a little bit making it seem as though she wasn't listening but of course she was. Ruthie asked if she had never played dodgeball before making her tilt her head towards Ruthie for a moment "No Ruthie; I have never played nor seen any game of any sorts." she bit her lip softly purposely gluing her eyes to the game. "If you watch closely everyone has a tell of varying degrees for what they are about to do or not do. It may be as small as their eyes shifting a bit or one hand tensing more than the other." At the moment she was speaking just to fill the air just to cover the fact that she had revealed something about herself yet again.
Ruthie was asking HER how the team looked so far; honestly she had no idea why she was asking her but she figured may as well give an honest opinion "Well not bad in my thoughts but it seems that everyone is relying more on their spells instead of getting the other team out with the balls. Just a thought of course; maybe there should have been teams of two on the field. One with their wand wielding spells at the opposing team and protecting the one throwing the balls while the other of course throws the balls trying to get the other teams players out." She spoke in an even tone as she watched the game continue on.

Jorah hoped Dympha would react in time to avoid getting hit. With any luck, Ravenclaw would win the game today and keep that momentum going by crushing Gryffindor for a second time in their Quidditch match. Jorah tore away from the competition and back toward the conversation he had abruptly left. "Sorry about that, nice to meet you," he directed towards Shauna. "I'm terrible with names so don't get offended if I forget and have to ask you again." He paused. "You're right, all this time here, and I still don't know many people..." he looked at Ruthie, her hand was on his shoulder..."but I'm ok with that." Jorah was content with the friendship he had. He picked up a popcorn kernel, tossed it at Ruthie's head, then pretended to be very focused on a cloud up above.
Jorah processed Shauna's comment on the dobgeball game. "You know what, that's not a bad strategy, Shauna. We could use a mind like that on the Quidditch team. You should consider joining, I think we're still looking for players. Ru here," he nudged Ruthie with his shoulder, "is one of our chasers, and I'm a beater... You don't have to worry one bit, I'll keep you safe, whether it be from a pesky lion, a sneaky snake, or a bodacious badger," he finished in a joking manner.
The chilly wind was picking up again. Jorah's body was starting to react to its loss of heat to the environment. He could feel goosebumps on his arms and he was beginning to shiver slightly.

"Wait, really?" Ruthie asked when Shauna suggested that she had never experienced a sports match before. Ever. The idea was somewhat shocking to the Scottish girl. Even in her remote fishing village, there had been games and activities in school. The only way, Ruthie figured, that Shauna could have avoided games in school was if she were homeschooled, but even then she must have played chess or backgammon with her parents. She was about to ask about it when Shauna shot off on how people have tells, things that are small and peculiar about them. Always one for observation in her small fishing village, Ruthie knew this to be true, but it was harder with people than with the environment. Shauna proceeded to not just recount the events that Ruthie had missed on the field, but to provide strategy. Jorah wasn't about to ignore that. In fact, he recognized it as an asset for another precious sport: Quidditch.
Ruthie felt Jorah knock her shoulder when he spoke her place on the team. It was warm, almost with admiration...or perhaps that was just her projecting. She was immensely proud of her place on the team. It was just then after Jorah and Shauna were formally introduced that she felt something small like a raindrop or a seed hit her temple. Touching the place where it had hit, she looked around, but there was nothing suspicious. That was if you didn't count Jorah staring up at the sky, which seemed grossly out of character for a boy who moments ago had been so focused on the game he'd screamed out to warn Dymph. Furrowing her brow, she stared at him hard, suspicious, before turning her attention back to Shauna and sports, a favorite subject.
She smiled encouragingly at Shauna. "Jorah's right. We're still looking for reserves," she said enthusiastically, "And Quidditch is the best game there is. You should speak to Emma Hill about it. She's the Captain and she's really nice." Truthfully, Ruthie was thankful to have ended up with such a lovely team. Everyone was friendly and clever, which was great considering she and Jorah were the only two first years on the roster. She had a lot of people to learn from and that could only bode well for the future.
Meanwhile, it was busy on the field. It looked like Dymph had managed to evade, but her Fumos landed on both sides of the field. Not exactly the effect they might have hoped for. The two others she knew from Quidditch, Neculai and Cecily, also seemed to not have luck on their side. But what was the most noticeable was a boy falling straight through the ice after a ball hit him in the forehead. "Look at that fall! Just awful," she said, finger pointing. From here, Ruthie recognized the boy as one she'd seen in the common room, but hadn't spoken to yet. Still, she hoped he'd grab his hot chocolate and come over here. They needed more people on the cheering side.

Shauna chuckled a bit at Jorah waving away his statement about being terrible with names "Don't worry about it too much; honestly there are to many people in this school to keep track of all the names and faces you know." Her eyes went back to the game; even though she was slightly preoccupied she could multitask. Her ears picked up the shocked tone of Ruthie's voice nearly making her cringe "Yes....really; why does this shock you?" as she asked this her head wiped towards the girl. Even though Ruthie said nothing she could practically see the girls mind whirling she spoke low so only Ruthie would hear her "What do you think I am like everyone else here and actually have a family? Sorry to burst your little rainbow bubble Ruthie but not everyone is lucky enough have a family let along a glorious life." Most people's voice would be sounding harsh at a time like this but not Shauna's it was totally serious.
Shauna soon found that she was having trouble focusing on the game as these two people next to her began telling her that she needed to join the Quidditch team which in truth really made her uneasy. She bit her lip softly as her eyes became trained on a tree near the Great Lake "I don't think so....I mean really; why would I want to play a sport in which I have never heard of?" She shrugged a bit flashing them a fake smile though it looked real; something she had perfected over the years "Now if you like I can come to your practices and give advice on strategy however honestly I am no expert."

Erin scanned the field, less interested in socializing and the gabby girls that seemed to orbit around the few guys that had shown up to watch the match. She was more interested in the physical capacity of the students engaged in this game. Future rivals on the quidditch field or potential adversaries in her obsessive quest to defeat the part-giant uprising before they gain too much power.
She was watching Kaegen in particular. His action. His lack thereof. The ultimate assaults on his person. Yet for the most part, the students were aiming for the Gryffindor team captain. Was he that great of a threat? Wasn't he only a second year? Admittedly their interested piqued her interest in him. Was he dangerous? Powerful? Disliked? All of the above?
...Perhaps.
Erin took a seat, pulled out a small notebook and started to jot down a few notes regarding what she saw. Who targeted who? What their priorities were. It might be important later for a profile. If she only placed a fraction of these efforts into her studies, she would be a straight O student. Instead, her report card was pockmarked with T's, the occasional acceptable grade. Ultimately she was graduating each year by the skin of her teeth.

She would scribble on, she did not know everyone's names. Some of the people did not hold a position that would warrant her knowing them. Others still, she simply forgot their names. Irrelevant in her mind for the most part, their skill (or lack thereof) was at times noteworthy.Note 1: Oliver needs to become a smaller target.

"She did it! Atleast, I think she did it. Yes! Yes, she freakin did it!" Jorah exclaimed after discerning that Dymphna had not only dodged an incoming ball, but a spell as well! It was hard to see because the grey smoke screen around her was only getting thicker and spreading elsewhere throughout the field but Jorah could make out that she hadn't fallen into the water and she was still standing. "Woo! Go Dymphna!", he stood and yelled onto the field. Sitting back down and turning to his friends, "do you think she heard my warning?" Switching back over to the field, Jorah recognized a few more of his Quidditch teammates, Cecily, Adam, and Neculai. Cecily and Adam had missed their targets but Neculai managed to knock Gris out of the game. "Woo!, Go...damn I forgot his name", Jorah began with a shout but ended in a whisper. "Hey Ru, you notice how a lot of the our Quidditch players are playing dodgeball, maybe I should have played too. I might have been able to keep you safe, then we'd borh show those Lions who is the best house, right Shauna?"
"By the way, I think it'd be a great idea for you to come to our practices, Shauna. It might help me with my nerves, having someone I know there cheering. Plus, if you come, you might just wind up joining the team...atleast I hope you will...eventually. You don't have to give us an answer now, just sleep on it and maybe after a few practices you'll have a change of heart, if not that's fine, I just hope you stick around. Don't be surprised if you do join the team though, our Captain Emma can be pretty persuasive." Jorah ended his little speech with a quick shiver. He leaned in closer to Ruthie, pressing against her side to share warmth.

Janus was moving through the smoke wall, eyes wide open, when a sense of imminent danger gripped his insides. Trusting it like he always did but not knowing where to dodge, he took a quick step back. And not a second too soon, as he saw a spell's streak of fizzing light cut through the smoke and create a halo from the dancing grey particles. It was kind of beautiful, and it made him forget for a second about any other possible danger coming for him through the thinning smoke. Just while he was stooping slightly to look at it in fact, his head was suddenly shoved aside by a red shape that also nearly knocked his glasses off. He didn't even have the time to think about being eliminated that the ice cracked under him and suddenly he was falling, flailing his arms a little.@Ruthie Greer & @Jorah Moussa & @Shauna Starr
The lake's water greeted him in a cold smooth embrace, and he kicked up immediately with an automatic response. It wasn't that bad after all, it reminded him of swimming in the Wear back home. He'd also managed not to lose his wretched glasses in the dive, but he didn't know whether to count that as a good thing. While he waited for the professor's boat to get nearer, he looked up and saw the hole in the ice floor closing up again. From that perspective, he could really get an idea of the power of the magic required to float such a platform in the air. His underside-watching was interrupted by the arrival of the boat, and Janus was helped up and carried back to the shore in silence by the stern-looking witch. As soon as he had set foot on the ground though, he was wrapped in a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa was placed in his hands, effectively dampening his upcoming blues for the elimination.
Now he only needed to find somewhere to sit; it only took a broad skim to notice the blue cluster of first years high in the stands. He recognised Shauna, then next to her a girl (Ruth?) that had been in the dodgeball team (and had apparently been eliminated just before him) and finally a boy he'd never talked to but that he'd seen in class and in their dorm. Having seen there was enough space for him to sit, Janus took a scalding sip from his cocoa and made his way towards them. He plopped down next to the brown-haired boy and waited for a pause in their conversation before asking "How many Gryffindors are left?"

The bustle is tempting enough, but it takes a while for Natalia to unroot herself from her spot away from the action. The amount of students gathered around the Lake is terrifying as much as it's interesting, and she finds herself taking two steps forward in an attempt to cross the massive distance between them and her, only to take three more steps back to keep herself away. On her fourth attempt, she sighs in frustration, worrying her lower lip between her teeth as she clutches her copy of Miranda Goshawk's Book of Spells closer to her chest.
Dodgeball. That's what she hears from a couple of onlookers as they easily cross the distance between them and the crowd while Natalia stares at the space as if it might gain sentience and swallow her whole.
She's familiar enough with the muggle equivalent of the sport, but the sudden bursts of light and color is enough indication that wizard dodgeball is certainly something she's never quite seen before. The curiosity gnaws at the back of her throat, but so does the fear.
You can do this. It's now or never. She repeats it like a mantra, chanting the same two lines over and over again in her head with every step that brings her closer to the crowd. She keeps her eyes on the ground as she walks, and as the noise of the crowd grows louder and louder, so does her panic, manifesting itself in the way her fingers tighten around the tome in her grasp, not that she notices.
By the time she's close enough to be right behind the gathered crowd, she looks up and realizes she's accidentally infiltrated the cozy huddle of several Ravenclaw students. Eyes wide, she quickly takes a step back and bows her head, looking anywhere else that doesn't have a mess of limbs and cloaks. "I'm sorry," she murmurs under her shallow breath, half-hiding behind locks of blonde that have fallen into her face. "I just couldn't help but notice... This kind of dodgeball is—the spells you did... ah. Nevermind."
With her face burning an embarrassed shade of pink, Natalia immediately turns away from the group and faces the ongoing game, although her head remains bowed and her eyes trained on the scuffed ground beneath her shoes. Perhaps she should have stayed on the far corner of the grounds—it sure would have saved her the trouble of trying to get anything past her chattering teeth.

When Shauna whispered, Ruthie expected it would be something pertinent to the game or perhaps even some girly secret (apparently people did that). But what she got was something all together different: basically a scolding, attacking her disbelieve and optimism. The words themselves were strong and harsh, but Shauna's tone was extremely serious. Apparently, what she spoke and what she alluded to had to be true. "Sorry," she said almost automatically as the wind kicked up behind her and sent a shiver up her back under Jorah's cloak. "Maybe we're a family," she whispered comfortingly as she put a comforting hand on Shauna's wrist before taking it away. She didn't know what was up with Shauna, but whatever it was it must have been serious.
Ruthie was eager to get back to the game, but she was glad to talk about Quidditch. It was, after all, her favorite subject. "You should absolutely come to practice!" she encouraged Shauna. While Ruthie trusted Emma and her fellow chasers absolutely, any help would always been welcome. And Shauna did seem to have a mind about these things. Still, she let Jorah do most of the selling as far as getting her on the team was concerned. After Shauna's earlier comments, Ruthie wasn't sure she was on the girl's good side anymore.
As she felt Jorah lean into her for warmth, she reached for the edges of his cloak and tried to extend it out over his shoulders. It might not completely reach, but at least they could sort of share. Hopefully, she hadn't soaked through his side too much while wearing it. "I can keep myself safe," she said, never one to ask for help, "but you should have played. The way you hit a bludger, you probably could have knocked out a Gryffindor." And that would have been helpful. Especially, say, twenty minutes ago.
As they were sitting there, watching the dark cloud of smoke that had become the game, she noticed another boy sit next to Jorah. She didn't know him, but she knew he'd been on the field with her for the dodgeball match and that she'd seen him around the common room and in classes. Despite his fall, he too seemed keen to keep on eye on how Ravenclaw was doing. Ruthie squinted to try and count the number of Gryffindors on the field (though she suspected Jorah would be better at this). She was about to answer his question, starting with a very helpful, "Em--" when someone seemed to have knocked into her as her head bobbed lightly back and forth. Ruthie turned around to notice a young girl with short hair and bright pink face. She seemed to try and put some sentence together, but it didn't quite gel. "You okay there?" she asked while giving the girl a smile. It was easy actually to trip in the stands. "If you're here for Ravenclaw, you can sit with us," she offered before turning her eyes back to the field. They need to take out some of the older Gryffindors, she thought.

Shauna honestly couldn't help the soft smile that formed on her lips when Ruthie mentioned to her about them being family. She knew the girl was right, she really shouldn't be focusing on the past and wallowing in self pity; honestly her life wasn't so bad. Sure she didn't have a family and she didn't know if her parents were alive or dead let alone if they ever thought about her. Sure she grew up in an orphanage were the children were never treated her decently; heck they all bullied her and the House Mother could have been a lot warmer but she also knew that there were plenty of people in the world in worse situations.
She gently placed her hand on Ruthie's wrist giving it a gentle and friendly squeeze; this was her way of not only accepting her friendship but also apologizing. Upon being touched Ruthie would find that Shauna's hands are naturally warm; she doesn't know why but she has always been a warm blooded person. "You will have to fill me in on your schedule so I can make sure that I am at your practices."
Just when she thought they weren't going to get anymore Ravenclaw's out for support two more appeared; of course one was at the expense of the game but that's just the name of dodgeball. Speaking of which; the girl that came over not moments after some guy....oh heavens she really hated not knowing people seemed to be confused about the game...well slightly . At least she knew about the muggle version of it unlike herself "Oh...wait so muggles have something similar to this? Hold on what the world is a muggle?" She asked now feeling really stupid.
Shauna seriously couldn't help but to reach around Ruthie and gently smack Jorah in the back of the head with a smirk "Oh I'm sorry I thought I saw a bug." she acted like that she was innocent. Seriously this boy needed to get it out of his that she was going to join the Quidditch team because seriously that would happen the day pigs fly. Truly she had to get used to flying first before she thought about doing anything like that.
The longer she sat there watching the game she found that even though the game was interesting to watch she was getting rather tired so with a wave to her fellow claws she decided she needed to get some sleep. She left the game knowing someone would tell her who won.
