The Hunger Games
The morning chill air hung, the remnants of dawn's breath lingered over the school grounds and the sun rays stretched across the misted hills as they battled against the cold and beneath the reluctant warmth, the Slytherin's former prefect stood at the heart of his and Professor Sarai's creation looking satisfied with it. The shifting labyrinth that was layered with deliberate chaos and calculated strategy. It had taken hours of carefully craft while mapping and placing charms for the maze to be breathing and alive with magic and wonders and the large carefully crafted grass was pulsed with enchantments, imperceptibly as though to spring into motion.
The hedge maze
The lay out of the maze would be memorised but not for long, every time the laybrinth would change, the wall hedge maze would rearrange themselves with a fluid motion as if it were guided by unseen hands, the green walls would slid apart with a hrshed whisper, new pathways would unfold whilst others sealed away, trapping and misleading and challenged those who dared to step inside. The young slytherin boy ran a gloved hand along a roughened bark of a tree that stood at the entrance. Even this was enchanted to shake loose a shower of dried leaves when a duelist had passed or been defeated, the disturbing air like the wingbeats of a startled bird. Everything had present had a purpose,
Hidden Perils and Unpredictable Terrain
The maze was not just a navigation test, it had a purpose to be a battlefield with cunning traps and unpredictable danger—some would reveal themselves immediately whilst others would make their presence known at the worst possible moment.
The young Slytherin smirked at his handiwork. These mindless obstacles offered an opportunity for strategy, deception and mastery over the battlefield. The heart of the very center was a dueling platform that awaited like an altar of skill and fate. The circular stone floor marked with ancient runes would be the final stage. The enchantments that took on a life of their own. The ground itself could shift at a whim, tilting slightly while summoning disturbing gusts of wind and throwing all duelists off balance. It was a battlefield design to test the spirits of youngins, and only those who could think, adapt, and seize the moment would make it. Whether the duelists team up or not, is up to them but at the end, there could be one winner.
- The Fog Veil: The fog veil was a thick mist that gathered in certain pathways, because these pathways contain tendrils that curl in slowly around the ankles of those who enter and the fog isn't merely an obstruction, it is enchanted to blur sound and intervene with perception, making voices and footsteps seem farther or closer than they truly were. This was an illusionist's trick awaiting to be exploited.
- Exploding Vines: These tangled ivy would sprawl across passageways, their emerald leaves would tremble with barely contained magic and the moment a duelist brushed against them, they would simply release a harmless golden spark that would mark their location for their enemies to see and reveal their exact location.
- The Sinking Step: Some sections of the ground were cursed with bottomless swamps that submerged the target. This was inspired by Jiraiya's Earth Release: Swamp of the Underworld technique. The duelists are free to fight their way out or request the moderator to roll a 1d100 and if they attain a result of more than 50, the user will be granted an opportunity to be dragged by a vine out of the swamp, and if the end result is less than 50, the user will be spit out by the maze at the entrance yet still inside the game.
The young Slytherin exhaled as his breath curled in the morning crisp. With one flick of his wand, he sealed the magical maze into place and a faint tremor rippled through the structure as if it was awake from slumber
The duelists would arrive soon.
Whether they put their fate in their friends or fight until they emerge victorious, this would depend on them, however, the adventure awaits.
Now, let the Hogwar-games, begin!
Here are a few rules
1. Entry point is the same for every Duellist. You all will be gathered at a singular point once you all make your debut, the maze will close up
2. Once the duel begins, every player must submit their actions in owls/discord>> moonlight.22_, no one should hint their action in their roleplays. You are free to skip a actioned round, but please let the moderator know.
3. We all have busy schedules, which is understandable. But there is 7 days rule for replies, If you cannot post, kindly let your partners know of your absence. And if you would like to be skipped.
4. Standard rolls and dueling rules apply.
[*] Please have a read of the following if you haven't already: 5. Some rolls may be up to moderator but the highest success chances of overcoming obstacles is 50+
6. Shifting walls apply after every 2 rounds, therefore a 1d100 will be rolled to determine the changes of the shifting walls.
7. Fog Veils WDC = 20
to see in the fog, a wisdom check for your character will be done, and if the outcome is greater than 20... This will be a success, your view will not be as perfect, but you will be able to see your path and avoid potential sparks from exploding vines. If your Wisdom Check is less, you will suffer from not seeing properly, making you a vulnerable target.
8. Exploding vines WDC = 15.
This is explained above. Kindly note that, whislst they are harmless, you character will lose 2HP when struck
These are the only things to look out for because the rest is just to take out your opponent and be the sole survivor. This seems like the Hogwarts hunger games, should you lose, the maze will literally drag you out where Atlas and Professor Sarai are situated, and your character will have just lost, and no side major effects like being unconscious will come into play.

Avis' mouth dropped as she stepped onto the grounds. Wha-? How? How had these people managed to create an entire hedge maze. She had been here recently, and was pretty sure she would have noticed a massive green thing being built. Hogwarts never ceased to amaze her.
Instinctively, she reached for her satchel for a caramel and felt a slight moment of panic as she realized she did not, in fact, have a bag slung over her shoulder. Her breath hitched for a moment as she ran through her day, but she relaxed as she saw the hedge maze once again. Duh, she had left it in the common room. How had she forgotten that? All Avis had with her right now was her cloak and her wand.
Softly humming, Avis paused at the entrance to the maze, looking up and around. Interesting duel this was turning out to be; last time she had checked, they didn't usually involve mazes. Sucking in a breathe, Avis walked along the side of the maze, resisting the urge to brush her hand along the hedges, until she found a stop that seemed most logically like an entrance.
Her expression calm, Avis scanned the maze, searching for any hint at what may be inside. Though she looked calm, her mind was flying, trying to figure out the maze before it had even started. A Ravenclaw through and through, she observed how long the maze was, how high, how thick. No amount of information was too much information, it could all be filed away and eventually used for something.
If the maze allowed her, Avis would slip inside, looking down whatever passages she could as she waited for her competitors to arrive.

Dennis wasn’t sure what happened or why it was happening, still shell shocked as he walked to what was supposed to be a friendly duel. He had signed up to get some practice having just come on the dueling team, figuring that it was be a good chance to get experience. He originally thought it strange that it was happening outside and not in the controlled environment of the practice hall. As he walked further down the path toward where Atlas asked everyone to gather, a maze arose. The air thick with magic made Ravenclaw’s heart quicken. It was imposing, and as he got closer he could make out two figures hard at work setting the scene. Atlas, a boy he met only a short time ago, and Professor Sarai.
Dennis, silent with anticipation, clinched his jaw as he approached the entrance of the maze. He gave the Professor and the Slytherin a tense nod, eyes forward trying to figure out if it was too late to tell them he had to go to the bathroom and run away. What had he gotten himself into? At least he knew one of the other students making their way down, Avis Marlong, a fellow duelist on the Ravenclaw team who was already waiting there. The other two he didn’t know at all but he had no doubt he was about to.
When the others arrived and took their places, it didn’t make Dennis feel anymore comfortable. The same silenced gripped his voice and he only nodded at each in turn, only offering Avis a slight and nervous smile. He waited to be given the go ahead. Let the games begin.

The only way to stay wired and connected, as well as updated on the happenings in Hogwarts for an antisocial like Aurelia Valentine, would be to read the noticeboards most frequently. Located in the Small Hall, or even the noticeboard crowded with torn parchments in the Hufflepuff Common Room—wherein buy and sell of secondhand books, invitations for parties that are executed illegally, overpriced banned prank products, meetings and invitations from particular clubs that require full participation, and lastly, lost and found are all posted. Most times, the young Hufflepuff witch stares at the noticeboard as though a crime took place, with blood-red yarns or threads that connect them all, associated with clear names but blurred faces. Frequented these certain posters every day so much that she eventually memorised them all by heart, even the poster for the upcoming Spring Ball. These noticeboards helped her understand or catch up to the events that unfold within the premises of the school. Gossipmongers with their hushed tones and grating giggles had been helpful too, unfortunately; no matter how she perceived it as annoying. The words Hunger Games immediately caught her eye on that fated day, her thick eyebrows knitted together as she unpinned the particular notice from the noticeboard. A notice she had never seen before, which really blended in with the other old notices. A duel but with a twist, it says with inviting letters. In that very instance Aurelia remembered her forgotten plan to join the Hufflepuff Duelling Roster in her Second Year; forgotten because this year she prioritised comfortability, the promise of adjusting well in an entirely different environment compared to the world she lived in had been her topmost goal. It is an arduous task, not easy at all, but she believed that she somehow managed and overcame the obstacles that limited her, unlike in Croydon. This parchment offered her an opportunity to enhance her skills in spellcasting and, of course, quick-thinking. In addition, this could be an experience that is worth mentioning once she applied in the roster. The only factor that made her hesitant is the fact that the twist is a form of uncertainty to her—anyone who knew her on a personal level is familiar with her almost intolerance in regard to surprises and uncertainties. A factor one would not be able to predict accurately, that would send one in a spiral, is one instance the raven-haired badger finds most distasteful. This is where the love for loopholes comes in; the avoidance of it altogether is a better decision than everything else. "Well, what do you think, Stalker? Should I join this duel? I am not passing up an opportunity if I did not, am I?" Wondered Aurelia, her deep brown eyes focused on her black feline, Stalker. The animal did not respond to this otherwise hypothetical question, only munching on the food the young badger prepared for him. She is crouched, her chin resting on her knees as she tipped the rest of the cat food in Stalker's bowl, careful not to overfeed him. Since adopting him, in addition to her overflowing list of friends—sardonically speaking, of course—she spent her time compartmentalising her thoughts with Stalker, just like this certain day too. "Oh, never you mind. I am going." Stalker only growled when she ran a hand on his back before picking up her black walnut wand and tucking it between her tight and unruly curls, stylised into a bun. Let us hope this decision will not be something of terrible regret. Spring in the Scottish Highlands is a welcomed reprieve from the harsh winter season. It is still cold, naturally, the greyish overcast above covering the sun—the usual morning. Nonetheless, some sunlight still spilt through, and the young badger imagined it as something tangible, to the point where one could cup it in their palms. It is a bizarre observation, a train of thought which indicated how much she missed the warmth of spring, the fragrance of blooming flowers, rarer than the other. Even the Hufflepuff Common Room, which is designed to sustain the plants with their sunlight needs, looked bright from the sunlight that spills through the cracks. Aurelia gets to appreciate the beauty of nature this Saturday since she is free from the chains of homework that restrict her from thinking about matters other than studying. Speaking of which, once she entered the Hufflepuff Common Room, the familiar scene of students hunched and huddled together to finish their homework welcomed her, one of them being Ruth Fairchild. The braided Hufflepuff is scribbling furiously with her quill. The scratching noises indicated, Aurelia was convinced, that this scribbling is currently tearing a hole in her parchment. She was about to greet her but decided against it; people scribbling furiously with words flying off the page were never a good sign, in her opinion. Pushing the circular wooden door open, the soles of her Mary Janes touching the marbled floors of the Hufflepuff Cellar resembled her decision to go out of her way to participate in her first ever duel. Taking her sweet time to reach the Hogwarts Grounds is also associated with deep pondering of her initial decision. It is weird; her first duel should be a duel with standardised procedure; this invitation offered no such thing. She attempted to conjure explanations on why this specific duel had to unfold on the school grounds, not in the old Duelling Club room. From an outside perspective, her delicate face is contorted into a frown, her deep brown eyes swirling with thoughts which also stipulated that she registered nothing of the present whilst she absent-mindedly ambulated towards the Hogwarts Grounds. The scene that greeted her deeply reminded her of Wizarding Schools' Potions Championship, a championship that happened in the Hogwarts Quidditch Stadium. The young badger remembered her amazement at the makeshift lush forest back then, whereas this time in the Hogwarts Grounds, a tall maze stood and loomed over her... and the other participants. A bated breath was released, which formed a puff of smoke in this otherwise foggy morning. Whatever hole she slipped in, she did not know, but uncertainties are really never a good sign. Aurelia is already here, standing before a challenge she willingly participated in, unfortunately. |

The air inside the Maze was heavy with a threatening silence, broken only by the distant sonorous hum of shifting hedges. The earth was blanketed in morning fog like ghostly fingers as three people emerged into the maze—a square cut out within the endlessly changing labyrinth. Avis Marlong seemed to enter the maze with some sort of motivation but sparks of curiosity within her mind, then came the Ravenclaw Prefect, Dennis Tumberton, who turned up in what seemed haunted but since Atlas had known him before, he was convinced of his skill. Both of them seemed to have wands already waiting, stood prepared with the cold demeanor of experienced Ravens. Was this some form of Ravenclaw Assemble?
...there was a delay.
The fourth was missing.
Tension brewed, the silence stretching too long. Then—footsteps. Aurelia M. Valentine, draped in the warm hues of Hufflepuff, stepped into view. What an interesting sight to see BUT it was too late.
Avis did not delay as her voice cutting as she shouted, "Incendio!" A jet of flame burst from her wand, scorching across the air before Aurelia could even attempt to move out of its path. The flame struck true as it appeared to graze across her cheek and for that instant, she was lucky enough she was not aflame. And the Prefect of Ravenclaw? He didn’t hesitate.
"Flipendo!" he yelled, wand cutting through the air in a smooth motion. The spell hit her solidly in the chest. Aurelia was thrust backward, her body hitting the wall of the maze before crashing onto the floor. This was a perfect show of coordination—an intentional ambush.
The maze rumbled, groaned And then it moved.
The entrance to the maze slammed shut as the vines tightening like snakes—the ground was no longer just a battlefield—it was a trap and the walls now seemed to breathe as if the Maze itself had awakened to witness the drama playing out. Aurelia was a badger in captivity—but badgers bite hard when caught.

The Hunger Games

Avis glanced at Dennis and, with a quick grin at him, whipped out her wand, aiming it toward Aurelia with a noncommittal shrug of almost apology, "Incendio," she muttered and watched as the spell shot out to Aurelia. Nothing against her, obviously, but this was a duel. Things happened. Whoops.
Dennis shot a spell too and for a second, Avis almost felt bad for Aurelia. This had to be quite the start for her, walking into the maze and five seconds later being slammed against a wall.
Just as Dennis' spell also landed, flinging Aurelia back against a wall, something groaned. Avis scanned the area, looking for intruders, but relaxed as she saw it was only the maze moving. Moving...it was closing. Well, that wasn't good. How was one supposed to exit? What is there was an emergency? What if the entire maze lit on fire? Not that she was planning to light it, or anything. That would be illogical. It would probably take some people out - but it was also take her out. it was not very easy to win a duel when one was unconscious. No, she decided, she was not about to light the entire maze on fire. Not that she had every been thinking about that.

The Hunger Games
Dennis took one look at Avis and knew exactly from her look what he needed to do. He was growing increasingly aware of eyes watching him, whether it was just Atlas or if there were actually people watching he wouldn’t know until later. With a flick of his wand he had knocked away the lone Hufflepuff contender, following up Avis. It was perhaps an underhanded move to rally against someone of an opposite house, but his only thought when it was time to start was to back up his teammate no matter what.
It felt awful though and he couldn’t bring himself to fight the girl anymore, not since it was 2v1 and she had no back up. He looked again for his partner’s eyes to see what the plan was now. Should they indeed stay or should they chances in the maze? He found his answer and with a deeply apologetic look toward his adversary he took off through the mazes corridor. If they crossed paths again, Dennis wouldn’t hesitate but he hoped this act of mercy, though seemingly hypocritical, would at least let her hold on that little bit longer. At the very least, hopefully he wouldn’t need to be the one to do it.
