Upon arriving at Hogwarts, all Jason could do was stare in amazement of how wondrous this place was. From the train to the boat ride, even among entering this great establishment all the stories couldn't compare to how it looked. The aromas seeping through the cracks of the doors, the shadows of people dancing in the windows and even the laughter could be heard from the outside. Jason could feel the sweat drip down his neck, from his anxiety running wild with his emotions. It didn't help that the cold wind blew through the night sky making him a bit colder than usual.

He looked among all the students, watching some fear the new experience and others had the same look he did the feeling of anticipation. Or he could've been wrong. All he knew was that at this moment his life was going to change for the better he hoped. "New start Jason...Uncle Vincent... Sophia, I hope this works out like you said." Jason said faintly under his breath. He wasn't too okay with opening himself up to people. He still showed respect to them by answering their questions but, he still wasn't comfortable opening up even with all the people he saw before stepping in on Hogwarts ground.

As what seemed like forever, the entrance to the Great Hall was in reach. The teacher leading the group spoke of how we must present ourselves inside the hall and what was coming next. However, Jason was so entranced by the doors leading into Hogwarts he didn't hear anything she said before he knew it, the doors were open and off they all went. Up the stairs and through another set of doors which lead into the Main Hall. Food and laughter were heard even louder since the doors were now finally open but, silence fell as we all walked in.

Jason could feel the eyes staring at not only himself but, for his classmates as well. "Amazing.."Jason said out loud a bit, he seemed more out of touch with the people and more into checking out all the scenery. From the floating candles to the ghost floating around the table, everything made Jason feel happy for once in his life. As his mind wandered he accidentally bumped into a boy. Jason didn't fall but, he was caught off guard. Lucky enough the boy for him was so shocked by everything too he didn't notice the bump himself. As Jason's mind began to wander, he could hear the Headmaster speak. Being a bit tall for his age he was able to see not only the Headmaster but, the teachers as well. Several minutes of introductions and it was time for sorting. Jason could hear all the names being called as students were placed in their respected houses, cheers of the tables erupted as they got one student after another. However, Jason's nerves were getting the best of him. All he heard were stories of Hogwarts from his Uncle nothing more nothing less, so why was being sorted so nerve-racking for him. [What if I am not good enough to be sorted?} Like a cruel joke being played on him, his name was called. Jason looked up and froze for a moment as if his name wasn't called but, his bodied moved anyway. [OI....what are doing Jason.] Jason thought to himself as he walked closer to the hat. His mind was in shambles as the Headmaster placed the Hat upon his head.

"Well....well. Snider never thought I would see anyone by that name in a while. All of you lot are so ambitious. Strong-willed. Yet, honest to say the least. Boy out of all of them.. you are the most ambitious of them all and your mind seems to hold secrets only you can solve. Those ambitions and talents you have would only be accomplished in SLYTHERIN."

Jason could only hear the cheers from the Slytherin table as he walked down the steps slowly. As he did so all he could think to himself. [What ambitions? I don't even know myself too well.]

The journey from the boats to the castle itself was relatively short, but as this night had already proved it was far, far from lacking in the excitement department. Every single step continued to uncover something new, something beyond belief. It truly was enough to overwhelm the heart of a young girl, well if she wasn't already prepared for it. Though to say that she wasn't feeling small was quite the understatement. Normally Maggie had always been the shortest, heck tiniest person around her peers, but here, well this was a whole different ball game. The entirety of the castle was absolutely humongous. The towering spires, the gigantic structure itself and even the ginormous doors. It all seemed like it had been created for the purpose of housing truly massive students, though one could really take that metaphorically as housing some amazing personalities and minds. Or at least she hoped it was like that, though based on what the girl had already read within her textbooks a lot of the creatures of legend did in fact very much exist in the world. 'I wonder if there are giants here now...' The young girl couldn't help but wonder

Her answer came moments later. Just at the entrance of what appeared to be a massive room, even compared to Hogwarts standards stood an absolutely giant man clad in armour, making his frame even bigger. She couldn't help but stop and look up towards the man, who towered a good couple of feet above her. He honestly looked a bit like Santa, but she knew it wasn't him... wait could it mean that Santa Clause actually exists if magic is a real thing?! This would need to be investigated for sure.

As she was ushered inside she finally realised just how breathtaking this hall actually was. The countless floating candles and the view of the stars outside... wait stars?! Weren't they inside? 'This keeps getting better and better with every passing moment!' Maggie couldn't help but exclaim in her mind as a grin quickly graced her pale expression. She was truly happy to have been given this opportunity. Without a shadow of a doubt she would do everything she could to make the most of it!

"Margarita Sunderland"

Hearing her name would make the girl snap back to reality, finding herself at the front of what appeared to be a queue with a single chair in the middle. The huge old man from before was holding what appeared to be a large piece of parchment. She frankly had absolutely no clue what she was meant to do, having missed the entirety of the explanation, but would make her way forwards and take a seat on the chair. It wasn't even a couple of moments later before she found herself with a rather ginormous hat, which covered most of the top of her head.

"You're an odd one aren't you?"

The voice coming from the newly-acquired article of clothing made her jump, not quite enough to make her stand up and run away, but enough to be noticeable from everyone who was paying attention. A few chuckles errupted from the crowd, which she just now realised were all looking at her. Maggie really wanted to disappear right now, but she really didn't have the time to continue down that trail of thought.

'Quite the brave little creature you are. Always running around and exploring. Looking for things nobody else has found before. Loyal as well, refusing to give in to oppressors or superiors. A little rebel in a way. Oh and what have we here... a desire to be great. A difficult one you are.'

The hat continued with it's voice echoing in her mind as she grabbed the corners of her chair with all her strength. Her knuckles quickly drained of blood as her normally pale skin became even more so.... if that was honestly possible at this point.

'But all those things stem from one thing don't they. Yes. You would make a fine Gryffindor, but that's not quite where you belong. No. That mind of yours has an endless hunger for knowledge. The questions are unending with you. I know exactly what to do with you.'

It would add as the girl slowly began to relax, growing used to the weird situation, questions forming in her head one after the other. What was this hat? How was it reading her mind? Would you be able to stop it? Would she be able to read the minds of others? Ooooh that sounded interesting. She had to look into it more.

"RAVENCLAW"

The hat finally announced, seemingly having confirmed what it had thought as the girl was ushered away from the chair and over towards the table with blue ornaments and banners all around. And thus her journey began......

While Aeyrun would say that patience was one of his defining traits, even he would have to admit that that was not true at this moment. How long does this whole thing take anyways?

What definitely did not help his mood were the occasional stares he would catch being directed at him, or more specifically his eyes. Muggle born idiots, he thought to himself with a roll of his eyes and a small huff slipped pass his lips in annoyance.

Burying his hands deeper into his pockets Aeyrun decided to distract himself by casting a a glance about the hall, well as little of it as he could see through the first years nervously shifting about him. Settling his gaze on the Slytherin table, he would think back to how the majority, if not all of his family members were sorted into the house. Every fibre of his being knew that's were he belonged, he just hoped the sorting hat had the sense to see that.

It would be around this time as he was lost in his thoughts that he'd be brought back to the great Hall by someone calling his name out, that someone just happened to be holding the sorting hat and looking out at the sea of assembled first years in expectation.

A small smirk coming to pull at his features, Aeyrun would set up to sit on the stool as the hat was brought to rest on his head.

"Ahhh, another Whitehall." The hat said, its voice somehow echoing inside his head at it spoke. "And just the same as everyone of you that came before, honestly, do you never change?" A few more moments of shifting about on his head would end with the sorting hat's final decision

"Slytherin!"

Having the hat taken off his head, Aeyrun walked over to the cheering and clapping Slytherin table. He was finally here, now he'd just have to remember to write to his mother every now and then.

Hope is a prison.

It had only been Cai's second day here at Hogwarts for he had just recently enrolled into this prestigious school of the arts of witchcraft and wizardry. The previous afternoon and evening was quite eventful for Cairo for it was his first, exciting trip on the legendary Hogwarts Express. After reading loads and loads of books about this muggle locomotive, Cairo gazed and beamed with excitement as he compared the pictures of the book to the actual representation of the train. Feeling excited, but yet as nervous as ever to start his new life in an unfamiliar territory, Cairo kissed his mother Elizabeth, his father Seth, and his sister Alex goodbye before pushing his cart filled with supplies up to the train.

After Cairo placed his trunk and items way, He decided to enter a random compartment where there was only one lady present who looked to be around his own age. After speaking to the young lady, Cairo received the information that her name was Aydeen Murphy who was yet also a first year student at Hogwarts as well! It was quite an awkward experience for Cai for he was one that tended to be shy and reserved around new people which was something that he let go after he felt comfortable enough to open up to Deen. Feeling color brim his pale cheeks, Cairo smiled softly for he wasn't one to smile often. He began to feel more comfortable and relaxed for he was afraid to be alone, but thankfully this kind young lady was of assistance to accompany him for the rest of the train ride.

After arriving at the docks where magical boats were all anchored, ready to set sail, Cairo exited the train with his cart and took his luggage over to the drop off section available for the students. After doing so, Cairo made his way over to the boats and decided to carefully step into one. After deciding on finding a seat in the back of the magical vessel, Cairo clung to his robes for the late August winds had swooshed through the premises as the weather was preparing for the fall season. Trying to keep himself warm, Cairo observed every spectacle around him as his boat was nearing closer and closer to the magnificent fortress that was placed before him.

After exiting the boats safely on the other side of the moat, Cairo made sure that he was the last one to exit for he was one that tended to be respectful on all occasions. From opening doors for other people, to always receiving his share of anything last, Cairo was known to be a humble "Prince Charming" in his own little way. Walking through the front doors, Cairo's face lit up with awe and wonder as he glanced around at the halls of Hogwarts- the place that he would call his new home. Seeing that the history books were correct, Hogwarts was everything that Cairo imagined it to be, but yet so much more. From the architecture to the decor, Cairo truly felt like this academy could definitely be his new home for the next seven school years.

Walking in the back along with the other first year students, Cairo tried to pick up his short legs as he chased after them, having his dress cloak fly behind him. Cairo wasn't one to run, but he was determined to not fool himself as he would make his grand entrance into the legendary Great Hall where the other students were already seated at their proper House tables. Puffing his chest out a bit and standing straight with perfect posture like his dad taught him to do, Cairo took a deep breath before walking into the Great Hall with the other first years. Feeling the eyes of the other students fall on him and the other first years, Cairo gulped down a lump of nervousness down his throat as he slightly began to sweat for a little on his forehead and in his palms. "Oh no! This is it! The moment I have been dreading for ever since I read about it." Cairo said to himself as he tried to control his anxiousness, but couldn't for he had issues with anxiety.

After waiting for the other students to be sorted into their new Houses, Cairo clapped after each student's new House cheered for them loudly. Knowing that he wasn't one to smile much for he was such a serious character, Cairo decided to place a very well disguised small smile across his lips as he pretended that he cared about the ones who were getting placed. It was hard for Cairo to judge or compare others for he was always a prestigious young man who sought out the best for his life. Cairo just desired for others to do the same and always be challenged to strive for success. Cairo was a natural Slytherclaw through and through for he desired success and for wisdom that comes from knowledge. Cairo continued to ponder over these thoughts before he heard the Headmaster declare a name that he was all too familiar with.
"Hawthorne, Cairo Bridge! Mr. Hawthorne, please step forward and take your seat."

Gulping once again, Cairo struggled his way through the crowd as he blushed from embarrassment as he bumped into the other taller first years. "Oops! Pardon me Miss. Oh!- Excuse me Sir." Cairo would say to the other un-sorted students who surrounded him. Poor Cairo was way too petite and little to get through the crowd that he struggled greatly with the task. Thankfully, Cairo eventually made it to the front of the room and ascended the small steps, determined to not make a fool of himself while in the process of doing it. Blushing with embarrassment, Cairo pushed and jumped onto the high barstool that was available and turned his body to face the awaiting crowd of students below him who were all staring at him intently with their judging eyes. Being slightly frightened again, Cairo looked down and avoided the looks from the crowd as he fiddled with his thumbs before feeling a large, heavy, floppy hat be placed on top of his skull. Hearing a deep booming voice, Cairo gently looked up and around the room, admiring the architecture while listening to the Hat speak.
Well, well, well! What do we have here? A Hawthorne eh? Hmm... I haven't had one of you Hawthlings around for quite some time. Hmm... You have your family be spread across many Houses so you may be a hard one to select. Hmm...."
Cairo honestly did not know that he had a lineage of wizards and witches from all of the Houses so that was news to the little boy of eleven years. Cairo figured that he would have to owl his father later and speak with his about this matter. The awkward pause in the speech started to make Cairo even more nervous if that was even possible. Soon, the Hat continued.
"Hmm... now for you Cairo, you are a tricky case for me. There is no doubt that you do not belong in Gryffindor for your strength and valor is quite small. You would be a wonderful member in the Houses of Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw though for I sense that you are a loyal, kind, honest, seeker of ambition, seeker of wisdom, and a seeker of knowledge. Out of all of these Houses, I believe that you would belong the most to is......

RAVENCLAW!"

Taking a deep breath of relief, Cairo felt the Sorting Hat be removed from his little head as Cairo hopped off of the tall bar-stool, which made him stumble a bit. Hearing the loudest cheers and standing ovations from an area of students all dressed in blue robes, Cairo finally smiled a tad more genuinely as he blushed from the attention which he had never received in this abundance before. Cairo smiled and took his seat at the end of the table as everyone was welcoming and congratulating Cairo for being sorted into their House. This night would be the first of many for Cairo Hawthorne which would mark as the first official event of his next seven years at Hogwarts where anything could happen.... only if you believe that it can by believing in the magic within ourselves.

The room they were all corralled into was marvelous and magnificent. Larger than any place Rosalyn had ever stepped foot in. There were four incredibly long dining tables within the room and benches on either side of all the tables. Her mouth gaped open ever so slightly at the sight of all the food laid out for them, truly a feast fit for royalty. She had never seen so much food in the same room her entire life, but knew they required such to feed all of the first years. She continued to be amazed as her aquatic eyes landed on the massive portraits lining the walls that came alive and chattered between themselves. However, what utterly shocked her the most was that the headmaster, Mr. Lear, had welcomed all of them at the door himself. She had never seen him in person before, but was in awe of how tall he towered over the entire student body in attendance. No one came even close to being in the same height range as he, which of course made sense given how young they all were.

The headmaster also seemed to have a peculiar sense of style, deciding to dress in armour as if he were a knight despite his dark grey beard hinting otherwise. Yet she thought it was a fun and neat idea to wander around with plated armour, and that perhaps he did so purely because of how much he enjoyed wearing it. She didn’t know if it was comfortable or not since she herself had never worn anything even remotely close to armour, but maybe one day she could try some on and be a judge of it then.

Once all of the students were welcomed inside and taken their seats the real ceremony began and the headmaster gave a speech, his voice deafeningly loud despite how far away he was thanks to some sort of magic or magical device being used to amplify it. He spoke about the event that was about to take place and even the sorting hat chimed in for part of it to sing a song. Once he finished the petite girl clapped with a grin upon her lips, incredibly excited even more so after such a wonderful song than before. Then just like that, the first name was called and they were sorted, this pattern continuing for a while.

The golden child watched the sorting ceremony with more interest than most would have, curious as to what houses her newly made friends would be in once they were called up. Cyrus was the first to be sorted, her childhood-friend being placed in Gryffindor, which didn’t surprise her in the slightest. He was always proud and sought glory in everything, two of the bigger traits for his house it seemed. The next person to get called up was the boy who had spilled his curry all over Cyrus’ friend Jacob, an action that hadn’t bothered her nearly as much as it had affected everyone else there. He was sorted into the same house as Cyrus, apparently being similar to the pure-blood despite not acting like it. Before long it was the one blonde boys turn to take center stage, the one whom she never got to formally meet, and they were the first of the group to be placed in Slytherin.

It was exciting to know someone from two of the houses so far, and she began to wonder which house she would be calling her second home soon. All of them were amazing and filled with great people that she couldn’t decide where she would even want to be sorted into, hence why the sorting hat decided for everyone it seemed. It placed people in the right house for them, even when they don’t believe it to be true, just like the last blondie of their group, Jacob. The moment the hat said Ravenclaw he was visibly upset, shouting that that house was for nerds and the hat obviously made a mistake. Rosalyn hoped he would grow to love his house and the people within it, making friends there just as much as with them.

A bellowing voice and familiar name brought her attention from the now Ravenclaw boy to the sorting hat on the stage.

“Rosalyn Wolfhart!”

It was her time to shine. She rose from her seat at one of the many dining tables and made her way to the stool with the hat, avoiding obstacles on the way over. The last thing she needed was to trip and fall in front of everyone. That would be so embarrassing!

Fortunately, the petite first year survived the short journey to the center and waited eagerly for the hat to be placed upon her head, an excited smile dancing across her rosy pink lips and her eyes sparkled with intrigue. This was the moment she had been waiting for all night, and after the brief encounter with the magical hat, she would be surrounded by the people she’ll most likely make the strongest of bonds with.

“Hiya, Mr. Hat!” Her voice quietly chirped to the magical object right as it was placed upon her head, then before she could say anything more he spoke up with a bellow of laughter.

“Ha ha ha, why hello to you too, Ms. Wolfhart! Energetic right from the get-go I see.” There was a brief moment of pause as he began to analyze her thoughts, or so she guessed was the reason for the silence. She wasn’t quite sure why else he would’ve stopped talking, unless he was into dramatic effects as well and only paused to add emphasis to his words, although if she was to be frank she didn’t think a magical, talking Hat needed to add emphasis to what they say. But hey, she wasn’t going to argue with his reasoning for why he did what he did. “A bubbly and bright one you are, eh? A loyal and trustworthy friend with a pure heart and desire to protect those you care about...”

Another very short pause followed suit, and a part of her already knew where the Hat might be going with the sorting. She knew all too well the qualities of three of the houses from her family, each reigning from a different one and telling her all about their values and beliefs to prepare her for today.

“I think it is quite clear where you’ll be going, and you already know that you belong to...HUFFLEPUFF!” As the word echoed out the room applauded and cheered for her with the Honey Badger table being more lively than the rest. She grinned from ear to ear as she walked over to her housemates, eager to start making friends with them and getting to know each and every one of the people in yellow and black.

Now her story at Hogwarts truly begins.

Ren Lan had remained quiet throughout the sorting ceremony – had remained quiet even as the sorting hat heralded his joining of Gryffindor house, and even as the other children of his house erupted into raucous cheers for their newest member. He was silent, only allowing his astute gaze to sweep across the Great Hall, drinking in all that he could of his surroundings; doing what he did best – observe.

His face was as empty as empty could be, void of anything and everything that could possibly denote what he felt. But he did feel, as humans do – did sense the twitch of an emotion stirring within the recesses of his mind. What was it?

Ren dared not venture so deep into the waters he had vehemently kept away from for years; emotions are nothing more than trivial details to be noticed on occasion, he reminded himself. That was *祖母’s first lesson.

So with great resolve, the eleven year old hastily quelled the tingling of his heart – if this was what he was ordained, then Gryffindor he would be.

Yet, as Ren approached the lengthy dining table around which dozens of students clad in black robes and adorned –in some way or another– with scarlet-gold trimmings sat jovially, he hesitated.

Ren sensed the stares digging into his flesh, following where he went – what he did; wondered if they truly considered him of their own, and though he had never held much of a sentiment for these things, he silently hoped to find a home within the towering stone walls of Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry.

The journey to Hogwarts had been a pleasant experience for Clarissa so far. She was enjoying the fact that she wasn't home, and possibly even finding a new one. To her, it was clear: she belonged in Gryffindor. She had always known. Of course, she had been looking forward to the sorting ceremony ever since she had gotten her acceptance letter. Clarissa had thoughtfully analyzed her own behavior, made lists dividing the traits she assigned herself between the four houses, and finally come to the conclusion that she was, without a single doubt, a Gryffindor. What else could she be? She was awkwardly certain.

The great hall was majestic. Clarissa had known it would be big, but not this huge. With open eyes, she followed her fellow first years inside and didn't know where to look. The Headmaster, Solomon Lear, soon welcomed all students and was quick to mention the sorting ceremony. Goosebumps. Clarissa quickly straightened her back, not intending to show any sign of fear. She was excited, not afraid, is what she told herself. She had nothing to worry about, she knew what house she would get in!
Her eyes scanned the long, four house-colored tables. She could imagine everyone must be excited to welcome new members. Clarissa hoped they would accept her.
Then, the Sorting Hat appeared. After a word of info from professor Lear, it began singing its famous song. Clarissa joined the applause, but she honestly just wanted to get over with it. She was tired of waiting.

To her relief, she wasn't the first one te get sorted. Believe it or not, but she found the hat to be quite scary and didn't like the fact the thing would be looking inside her head. How could a hat be so powerful? She wished she could look inside other people's minds. It would surely be interesting.
Clarissa only paid attention to the first years that were getting sorted into Gryffindor. Those were going to be her new friends, after all.
And then–“Clarissa Rose.”
Was that her name? It was. She calmly stood up, trying to control her emotions. She was furious at herself. Why was she so scared? Her cheeks turned red at the thought people saw her shivering.
When she finally reached the tall barstool, she felt as if she had walked 5 kilometers to get there, she took a deep breath and climbed up the chair. She felt the heavy hat touching her skull and a strange voice echoed inside her head: “Ah, I haven't seen a female Rose in a long time...”
Clarissa didn't know what the hat meant by that. She knew the Rose legacy was one of Slytherins, and Slytherins only, and that was the last thing she wanted to become. An average Rose.
“And exactly that is why you would be a good match for Slytherin... but that would be too easy, wouldn't it?”

She swallowed. What was it saying? Was she going to be sorted into Gryffindor, then?
“Gryffindor?” The hat grinned mischievously. “You're daring yes, but most of all intelligent and sharp in your actions. Always thought-through. I see an obvious need for originality...”
No, no, no!
“...RAVENCLAW!”

Clarissa was flabbergasted. She, a Ravenclaw? She may be intelligent, but was that all? Her eyes widened when she looked at the clapping Ravenclaw table. It took her a moment to get off the barstool and get her thoughts in order again. Stunned, Clarissa walked to her house table. Not Gryffindor. Not Slytherin either. Ravenclaw. Could it be that the hat was wrong? Was that really possible? What were her parents going to think? Ravenclaw was definitely their second choice for their daughter, but it still wasn't Slytherin. Now, she couldn't even be happy that her house wasn't Slytherin. All she could think was: now they are automatically going to assume I will score high. I have no excuses.

I honestly thought she was either going to be Gryffindor or Slytherin, but Ravenclaw? Sure, I'll take it!

Sitting and waiting is the worst. Who has the patience for that? Jack ran his hand through his wild mess of hair once again. On most days, it's a battle to tame his thick black locks. As he battled, his mind starts to wander. Never before had Jack been outside of Dublin, and his mother was so excited to see him off. He could've sworn that she would have climbed right onto the train if Jack had asked her too. That thought made a small grin crawl across his face. Jack sat with his back straight and chest out as he continued to run through his mind palace. It was obvious to anybody looking that he had let his attention slip away from the Headmaster's introductory speech and the subsequent calling of names. As time passed, Jack continued to let his eyes wander the great hall. He guessed that the name 'Great Hall' fit this room like a glove. Maybe Grand hall would have worked too, but that's aside from the point. The fact that he was finally here was liberating. Sadly as he had grown, his mother had failed to give anything super specific about Hogwarts. She had always said that 'it was better to experience it without any expectations!', and so she never elaborated. His mother was a Ravenclaw, so all he knew was that he was not going to follow after her. Being smart is too hard.

It was like a shock of electricity to Jack when he heard a booming voice call out his name,
"-Jack Warren!"

Immediately Jack was on his feet and already making his way down the aisle. With chest out and back straight, he strutted closer towards the hat. His cocky grin was plastered on his face. He wasn't afraid of some ugly old hat. So what if it could read his mind, or detect his wants and stuff. Jack learned from a very young age that if you are afraid all you have to do is look it in the face, or in this case- leather, and laugh. With every step closer, his heart thudded harder against his chest. His excitement and anticipation kept growing. After was seemed like an eternity, the boy planted himself firmly onto the stool that was set directly in front of everybody.

"You sure took your time, Warren." The raspy voice echoed. The hat had already been placed on his head? When did that happen? The weight finally settled onto his shoulders. Jack tapped his fingers impatiently against the edge of the stool. Having to wait was already killing him, and-
"Oh Mr. Warren. Impatient are we? Maybe we should let you sit and stew for a bit. That would be fitting for a Warren. I can already see that you will not be joining the Ravenclaws. Your mind is probably a bit too dull for that house...I see Slytherin in you, however. You have some resourcefulness, and is that a temper I see?... possibly Gryffindor? Bravery, and confidence in loads. Ooh, I can see what you are now....."

" You could very easily be in any one of the houses, but Loyalty is at your core..."

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Hufflepuff? Honestly, he wasn't expecting that. That didn't mean he wasn't excited about the choice. Jack grinned at the applause and cheers, as the hat was removed from his head. He could see himself as a Hufflepuff. With a sort of swagger, Jack made his way towards his fellow Hufflepuffs. Plus it helps that he knew he looked good in yellow.

Talis filtered into the Great Hall with the rest of the first years. His journey to Hogwarts itself seemed like an adventure on its own, what with the concealed train platform and magical snacks on said train; the boats that moved on their own, illuminated by floating candles and lights. His breath had been taken away upon seeing the Hogwarts castle. It was grander than anything he'd ever seen or imagined.
Now, walking into the Great Hall, he could feel his excitement and nerves rise as the chattering of students filled the air. Talis looked around to see four different tables with students wearing different colored robes at each one. The energy in the air was electric as the first years shuffled towards the front of the large room. The ceiling seemed to open into the night sky, though Talis realized it was just a magic trick. Candles floated above his head as he took his place amongst the pack of young witches and wizards huddled in the front.
He watched the Headmaster come to the front of the room and almost jumped when his voice boomed loudly across the hall. As if that weren't enough, a ragged witch's hat began to speak and sing upon being placed on a stool at the front. Talis found his song fun and it gave him a glimpse into the houses he'd heard so much about.
When it came his turn to be sorted, Headmaster Lear shouted his name over the hush of students.

"Talis Aranais!"

Talis nervously walked to the front and took a seat on the stool where the hat was then placed on top of his head. It fell over his eyes and he adjusted it, pulling his hand away when it began to speak.

"Ahh yes... muggle-raised, no house biases..."

Talis swore he could hear the hat lick its lips as it hummed, presumably thinking about where to place him.

"All the houses have many fine qualities, but from what I can see I think you'll do well in... GRYFFINDOR!"

As the hat screamed his house name for everyone to hear, Talis saw the leftmost table burst into cheers, some kids clapping while others stood on their seats.
Gryffindor... all he could remember from the song was that they were brave. Talis didn't think he considered himself brave but everyone seemed to trust the singing hat so he dismounted from the stool and walked over to the cheering table of Gryffindors. All the students at the table donned red robes and were eagerly leaning forward to get a look at their newest member. Talis felt himself wanting to shy away but resisted the urge, giving a small smile before sitting down next to another first year.
The excitement of the day seemed to be building inside of him, but it was almost as if he didn't feel it. His senses were so overloaded it was all he could do to get food onto his plate and into his mouth. At least the cooking was good. Talis thought he should learn some magical recipes to bring home to his mother.
As the rest of the students were called, Talis watched them being sorted, clapping whenever another student was placed into Gryffindor. He still wasn't quite sure what he was getting into at this school, it was all so much. But he already felt comfortable thanks to his friendly housemates and he was excited to see where this new journey would lead.

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020 Archived
Standing amidst the throng of other students, Allison looked ahead. She already knew what house she would be sorted into. Except for two ancestors who had been Slytherin, her maternal line had all been Ravenclaws. It was not too far of a stretch to think she would be in the house as well. With such confidence, she waited patiently listening to the hat sort.

Then, the powerful voice of the headmaster called out, "Allison Howard!"

Rather taken aback by how quickly her name came up, she shrugged before stepping up to the stool. Allison sat and closed her eyes, letting the hat do its thing. The confidence of expectation was reflected in bearing. She looked out over the other students, her mind drawing connections to them in the way they stood near each other or even leaned to and away from one another.

"Oh, what have we here? An Arachene? I haven't seen one of you in nearly thirty years. You are certainly a daughter of your mothers, but we could give you something new, don't you think?

The girl's confidence faltered. She had completely expected to be in Ravenclaw. The patterns in her mind cracked. The interconnections of plans were desperately being rewoven. "Perhaps, but then, developing the web of life and friendship is not bound into a single house? Now is it? The house is where you go to relax and reflect, to understand your decisions. There, I belong in..."

Before she could finish the thought, the sorting hat proclaimed,
"Ravenclaw!"

Allison nodded and stepped from the stool as the Ravenclaws erupted in applause. She turned and bowed formally to the hat. "Thank you so very much, Mr. Hat."
