closed Reading by the Lake Pv Leona Cooper

Leona was sitting by the lake, looking at the calm water. She looked around and saw a boy. The boy looked to be reading. Leona realized she knew the boy. He was Felix, the boy that she hit with a book and hadn't seen since last year. She didn't really want to talk to him but she decided to go say "hi" at least.

Leona walked closer to Felix. She stepped back after thinking a bit and sat down quite a bit away from Felix. Wondering what she should say to Felix, she brushed her hand through her hair. She was a bit anxious to talk to him in case he didn't remember her.

Leona felt the grass around her and decided she would talk to Felix. He might be lonely or bored. He didn't really look bored but Leona was. Very Bored. She shifted towards Felix until she was beside him. Leona stayed a bit away from Felix but she wasn't super far.

"Hi, I'm Leona, do you remember me?" She said, looking at Felix. "I-I uh. Hit you with a book." She reminded him, looking embarrassed. Leona put her hands on her knees, trying not to die from embarrassment.

Felix looks at Leona for a moment in silence, though he completely recognizes her (quite clearly). This is a strategy he has to give himself a second to think about what to say. If he immediately says he recognizes the person, that usually means he has to say something else right away. He likes to plan what he’s going to say.
It also sometimes makes the person in question doubt whether or not he actually does recognize them, which can be useful in some situations (like if he’s being accused of something).

She seems to be nervous. That’s odd. What’s there to be nervous about right now? It’s not like he’s a particularly threatening person (not in his opinion, at least. He sometimes scares small children, but no one older than 8 years old are usually nervous about approaching him).
He comes to the conclusion that she’s probably anxious about classes or something, high-strung on nerves. He can’t really judge. He’s pretty nervous much of the time too.

After another moment of hesitation and wondering if he might just play dumb and pretend not to recognize her so he could avoid a conversation, he replies to her “Hi. Yeah, I remember you. How’re you doing? Haven’t seen you in ages.”. And it’s true. Although he saw her quite often for a short stint last year, he hasn’t really seen her at all this year, except for the occasional sighting across the hall. To be honest, Felix had assumed she was avoiding him after that whole incident in the grounds. Like, he’d talked to her briefly in the courtyard after that, along with her dormmate, Eugenia, or something like that, but nothing afterwards.

She might actually be a nice person too talk to. Felix isn’t fully sure though. He didn’t get a very good judge of her personality the last few times they met (usually because someone was tripping or something along those lines each time), and it’s also been a year. Some folks change quite a lot in a year. Make it or break it, as they say.

Leona was slightly surprised that Felix remembered her. She did expect him to still remember her hitting him with a book but she thought he might ignore her. She smiled, feeling less anxious. "I'm fine. I've just been kinda busy." She responded, sort of lying. She had actually been trying to avoid everyone and she had been looking for Felix because he was the only one who talked to her.

Leona hadn't really been spending much time with people because she was trying to follow the rules. She had been really bored in the past months, doing classes, then avoiding everyone who might talk to her. "How are you doing?" She asked, realizing she must have gotten lost in thought.

Felix might be nicer now, maybe he wouldn't tease Leona anymore. Leona didn't want to embarrass herself anymore, which she's prone to do. She didn't really understand why Felix would even want to talk to her, because of last year, but maybe he forgave her. She smiled at Felix and got a bit more comfortable. Maybe Felix wasn't so bad now, maybe he just wanted someone to talk to just like Leona did. Looking happy that Felix might be nicer, Leona stopped being worried about him not liking her.

"Fine." he shrugs. He's not sure why Leona's here.
She looks happier now though, why's that?
Mysterious happenings.

He decides to question her. "Have you made any new friends? What's your favourite subject?". Admittedly, he just asked the first thing that came to mind. Felix doesn't want to sit here in awkward silence, so he just asked something random. He puts his book down (bookmarking his current page), realising he'd been just holding it up for very little reason.
Felix is pretty sure he heard she's got a pet, an owl or something, but he doesn't know for certain, so he doesn't mention that. Maybe she was saving up to get one? Owls were quite expensive, when he checked out the show for fun at the start of the year, and since she's got muggle parents she'd have to save up the money herself. It's rather impressive (to him, at least) if she did manage to pay for it herself.

It's quite warm. He contemplates taking off his school robes for a bit (he hasn't yet), since he's got shorts and a tee-shirt underneath them anyway. He doesn't really feel like going through the trouble though, and doesn't (for now).

He waits (somewhat patiently) for Leona to answer his previous questions.

"Well, I don't have any new friends, haven't really been spending time with anyone. I like Herbology." Leona answers. She really likes nature (except for the annoying birds everywhere). I do like Sugar though, she's amazing. And useful. She thinks, wondering if Felix got a pet.

"Do you have a pet? Like a lizard or a snake? Maybe a cat?" Leona asked, wanting to talk to Felix more. She realizes she didn't mention Sugar and adds, "I have Sugar, my owl. She's super useful because she can send letters." Leona remembers her cute owl that lives in the Owlery. "She's a barred owl." She adds, looking at the water.

Today was quite warm even though she wasn't wearing her school robes. It was free time anyway and she was allowed to take off her school robes. She was sitting on her robes and was wearing a black T-shirt and dark blue shorts. Leona loves warm weather and swimming (which she wished she could do). She really wanted to jump into the lake right now, but she knew she couldn't go to class drenched.

Leona watched the water for a bit longer than turned to Felix, waiting for an answer to her question.

"Yeah? Well, Herbology is a neat subject. The Professor is good." Felix says. Honestly, he hasn't paid much attention to that specific subject. He does remember that one of the lessons had taught a pretty cool fire spell though.

"I don't have a pet. Sugar sounds nice though. Did you know that if a Barred Owl eats enough crayfish, the feathers under its wings can turn pink?" miscellaneous fun fact time, it seems. He had been interested in getting a lizard at one point. He didn't end up doing that, but he'd like to. He doesn't really feel like he's responsible enough to take care of a living creature all by himself yet.

Leona's already out of her school robes. That's probably smart. Technically, school hours are over, since it's just dinner after this, so robes aren't required.

Felix wonders briefly whether or not it's allowed to swim in the lake. He's dipped his feet in the lake before, and he's seen people jump in, but he isn't exactly sure whether it's fully allowed to swim in there, because the giant squid is in there. He doesn't particularly like swimming anyway, for many reasons, so he doesn't think about it that much.
