Sorry if this is coming late. Honestly our Headmaster is the one prodding us to even write these letters... not to mention I've never even sent an owl. Let's just say it was an ordeal to begin with finding one that would send the damn thing. Uh.. well.. okay.. I guess we're supposed to be just getting to know other wizarding people not from our side of the world or something? Cool... I guess. Not much interesting about me. My parents are No-Maj Muggles, isn't that what you all call em? Basically they have no clue what the hell to do about me or really know about me. It isn't like that over there is it? Seems like you guys all play nice. At least that's what we're told..
Um what else.. Name's Genevieve, but I swear don't use that.. No one ever calls me that. Evie would be great. So far I'm in my third year here, Wampus. You guys have houses and all that right? I'm not sure what we would be similar to over there. Don't talk much to anyone in my house except one guy who seems pretty chill, Donovan. I mainly stick to my close friend, Delia. What year you in? House? Maybe we're like in a similar house sort of personality. I dunno. I don't really "play well" with anyone, or at least that's the typical response I get. Sort of annoying....
Ah.. what else.. man I don't know what to write. I've never even written a letter to anyone let alone my own fam.. or talked this much about myself. Right.. guess I'll just end it here then for now.

Yes, we call them Muggles. I wouldn't exactly say our perception is nice; whoever you've heard that from is greatly exaggerating the truth. Alright, Evie it is, I suppose. For the sake of formality in writing letters I hope you don't get angry with me opening my address to you as Ms. Davis... I've been raised to use a certain form in letters and it would be odd to me to change it now. What is Wampus like? At Hogwarts we have Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. I'm in Gryffindor, which is supposed to portray 'bravery' or some such thing. Do your houses have specific traits attributed to each one? I'm a second year, but I've been in this school for three years. Had to be held back on account of missing much of last year, which is rather annoying. Re-taking the same classes over can be a bore.
If you're up for it, I'd like to hear more about America. I've been there once on a trip, but only briefly and only to tourist spots. Are the people kind where you are? Do you have beautiful scenery? Is it true that there's a Muggle place called 'McDonald's' where, if you eat there, you'll develop health problems and die within one month? It sounds so different from our experiences in Britain.

Right! I wonder if they fly all that way.. or theres some sort of funky wormhole thing that they can teleport through. I have no clue if that's a thing all this magic stuff is still new to me.
Bummer there's trouble there with any No-Maj people.. I mean.. they keep us completely separate. I didnt get along with my parents much after I had an "episode" as they like to call it.. but still. Having to completely hide everything from them sort of sucks. They always thought I was crazy or weird.. strange.. never proud. I wonder if knowing the truth would make them realize I'm not a complete waste yknow?
A masked guy! Attacking students ! Holy heck that's insane. I guess magic stuff can be intense and have bad people in it but wow... I cant recall anything THAT bad happening here. I mean some potions blowing up in class, standard bullies... but nothing like that. Unless Professors really cover it up.
No worries. Oh ah...Wampus I guess is pretty cool. Sounds similar to Gryffindor. The image is based off of a cougar from Native American Mythology. There's three others Thunderbird, Pukwudgie, and Horned Serpent. That sucks, I would be so annoyed if I had to take a year over...
Sure! Oh man yeah if you only go to the touristy spots you sort of miss out on cool side stuff. The people are..okay. I lived in a small town away from any major cities like I imagine London to be. There's totally a McDonalds and it does make you fat if you eat there a lot but not sure anyone died in a month. Maybe if that's all they ate! It's like greasy burgers and fries, but the shakes are pretty good! Plus you get a toy with any of the smaller kids meals. No worries hah! I'm curious about where you live too, did you grow up in a large city? Do you guys get to go anywhere on school trips? Any cool shops? I've never been to a wizarding shop, my school supplies were here when I arrived.. since my family couldn't take me. Do you get to go home on like winter breaks and stuff? I have to stay year round. Which isnt so bad.
This writing thing actually isn't so bad.. kind of nice to just have some quiet time to write.

It's strange that you're kept completely separate; I always figured the other schools were even more open than Hogwarts. In that case, we're a step up from you because people aren't required to hide their magic status from their Muggle parents here. I don't know if it would be worth it to tell them though, because from everything I've seen Muggles (or No-Majs, as you call them) are quite judgmental on a good day. I'd be concerned they might turn on you even if they knew since people without magic appear to be jealous and intensely scared of those with magic. As a good friend of mine once said, you make your own family. Better to have family with wizards who won't judge you for your magic than with Muggles who would.
Huh, you guys are pretty lucky to not have masked people, but I'd keep an eye on those Professors. I have to admit I'm exceptionally paranoid about them since ours did nothing when the Masked Man was terrorizing us. I think the lot of the adults in the Wizarding World are hiding something but I'm just not sure what it is. Maybe if you keep an eye out in America and I keep an eye out in Britain, we can figure something out.
I looked through a book in the library on Ilvermorny and Wampus looks the most intriguing. As a fan of cats, I approve of the House's image. It's looks powerful but intelligent, I almost prefer it over Gryffindor's.
This McDonald's place sounds terrifying, but I suppose if the food is good it's worth going to. Why is it that greasy food tastes better than normal food? Something to do with evolution, I imagine, all I know is that it's true. I grew up approximately half an hour outside of Birmingham, which is a rather rough city with a large underworld population. We haven't gone on any trips yet but we do have summer camps at the end of summer. Do you have something similar? We have incredible shops in Diagon Alley, I'm not sure about Muggle shops since I do more ordering than going into them. When you come over, you should check out the entire line of shops, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like.
We do have the choice to go home on winter break, which is nice to get away from the insanity at times. But if your home life is rough, I can see why it would be a relief to stay around school. What do you do on breaks if you don't go home? Does your school have magical activities like Quidditch? If so, do you play? Flying a broom is a ton of fun.
I agree about having some quiet time to write; there's a kind of solitude but it isn't lonely because you're still speaking to someone. Having a penpal has exceeded expectations.
