✽Avery smiled as her heart quickened. She began to blush a little. A boy had never asked her to dance before. She had no idea how to react. Mikey was handsome and had a great smile. All Avery had to do was calm herself down and say the word she wanted to say. And that word was yes. She hid her nerves behind her smile. Though she had no idea if it would work or not.
"Sure! I'd love to dance!" Avery responded with surprising calmness.
She couldn't wait to see how her first time of dancing would go. Of course she had grown up dancing at different Pureblood balls with her father, but that was different. Those balls required something Avery didn't enjoy. Blood status. Those balls were probably the reason she never cared about who someone was on the outside or what their blood status was. All she cared about was looking at their hearts, and Avery had the feeling that Mikey had a good heart. Even though she had just met him.
"So, you ready to dance?" Avery asked with a hint of nervousness in her voice. Why was she acting like this? It wasn't like this was some highly official dance. It was just a school dance where she would dance for the first time with a handsome boy. She couldn't wait to see what would happen. ✽

Ellie had never actually been to a spring dance. Let alone any dance. Ellie had always loved dancing but... She finally found the courage to walk into the great hall and give the dance a try. Putting on the dress Ellie had gotten from her mom, she stood in front of her mirror. Smiling happily she walked down to the Great Hall.
The Great Hall was decorated beautifully. She really had to hand it to the people behind it, they were really dedicated and had a good eye. As Ellie walked deeper and deeper into the Great Hall she noticed how lonely she would be. Everyone seemed to be talking to one another or dancing with one another! No one seems to be by themselves! Ellie didn't want to go imposing in on someone else's conversation. Where is a place I can go, be alone, and not look awkward? Ellie wondered. It's not that she wanted to be alone it was that she didn't want to interrupt.
Making her way to the drinks table, she grabbed a butterbeer glass sitting on the table. Ok obstacle one, done. Next part? Find a place to stand. Ellie walked over to a corner of the Great Hall, casually sipping her butterbeer. Ellie in her little corner watching others dance, talk, laugh! Ellie sat there, exhaled, and started daydreaming. She was dancing, at this dance and not by herself, she was dancing with someone, a boy! She was laughing and having fun too. If only! Of course tough Ellie longed for that! The team in charge of the dance had done such a good job and she wanted to enjoy it!
Ellie decided to make her way to the dance floor.

"Sure! I'd love to dance!" Avery's words were more music to Mikey's ears than the sound of the lively Celtic-sounding melody that filled the hall. He wasn't sure if excitement or nervousness was his dominant feeling in this moment but he didn't care either way. All that mattered to him was the moment itself and he felt he could live in it forever. She asked him if he was ready and it sounded sincere. Not like the Are you ready to go to the store or Are you ready for class. It was a real question directed at him. Like I see you and I want to know how you feel and if you are prepared to do this.
Mikey was in fact ready. He gently grabbed Avery's hand and led her to the dance floor in the center of the Great Hall. The music remained fun and lively as he began to move his feet. His inner voice reminded him that he should probably thank his grandmother the next time he saw her for forcing him to take lessons. Not that he was a great dancer but he at least knew how to move without stepping on Avery's feet. All inner monologue came to a screeching halt when he met her eyes once more.
There was something in her eyes that he was not able to place. They were beautiful hazel eyes that showed intelligence and seemed to already know him. But there was something behind all of that that he couldn't place. He decided that he needed to get out of his head and just enjoy the time he had with Avery and quit overthinking. He continued to dance with her with a smile glued to his face. Then without thought or even control he began to laugh.

✽Avery allowed herself to be led. A smile never leaving her face. There was something about Mikey. Even though they had just met, he seemed so sweet and friendly. She couldn't wait to know him better. After all that had been happening in her family lately, she really was loving this dance. It was taking her mind off of everything and giving her a sense of peace and that she belonged. Even though her entire world was falling down around her.
She loved the dancing! It was so much fun swaying and spinning to the music as it played. Avery blushed a little again when she realized how much she was enjoying this. She hadn't expected the ball to be so fun! Why hadn't she gone to one sooner? All she could wish was that the night didn't end anytime soon. All she wanted was to enjoy herself and dance.
That's when Mikey began to laugh. Uncontrollably. Avery hid her life begin a big smile as she tried not to laugh. Though she was also confused. Had she done something wrong? Why was he laughing so hard? "Are you okay? Why are you laughing so hard? Did something happen?" Avery asked as she began to smile wider. Laughter in her eyes. ✽

Aamon had expected to be nervous because he was always nervous. His hands were not sweaty yet but he was 97% sure his knees were considering unionizing and quitting entirely. When his eyes finally met @Nabi Park’s across the room, he froze for a moment, legs stiff as stone, heart doing something incredibly athletic and medically inadvisable in his chest.
And then, of course, he tripped, he he did not walk into a pillar or a wall or another student, so small victories at least. It was not a full wipeout, more of a surprise lurch, like gravity just decided he needed humbling. He straightened up fast, slapped a crooked smile on his face, and walked it off like it was part of a routine he had absolutely choreographed on purpose. Maybe he did. “Just testing the flooring,” he muttered to himself but those near him could hear the personal narration. “Definitely slippery. For safety. You’re welcome, Hogwarts.”
Then there she was, Nabi standing like a moonbeam made solid. Her dress made the warm candlelight refract with wintery hues, her pale skin and dark hair framed by the light of the floating candles. The other students there did not particular matter, they seemed to simply fade into the background. His compliment flew out of his mouth before he could workshop it 'moon goddess-slash-well-behaved thunderstorm—and honestly?' Aamon was kinda proud of it.
Aamon felt that Nabi liked it too. He was a charmer even if the world refused to admit defeat.
Aamon didn’t even register that he was grinning like a golden retriever until his date teased him back.
“Though we would not want to make a goddess jealous now, would we?”
"If any deities show up, I’ll just offer them some punch and tell them it’s too late... you already said yes.”
When Nabi slipped her hand into the crook of his arm, his posture straightened slightly. Like his brain had registered that this is real and sent a memo to his spine to stop slouching. He was not a habitual slucher like his older brother Gideon, Aamon had no reason or want to appear small in a world that insisted on diminishing him in every other way. Everyone seemed to underestimate him and the Slytherin seemed to betray the theme of his house as he did little to prove them wrong. Aamon attempted to guide them toward the dance floor with surprising smoothness for someone who minutes earlier, nearly declared and almost lost a war on gravity.
As Aamon guided Nabi gently toward the edge of the dance floor, his head turned for a moment and his eyes narrowed. His recently retained posture didn’t falter, but his gaze lingered across the Great Hall, zeroing in on someone dressed cheaply yet standing somehow confidently.
@Matthew Campbell.
The ever-smirking, self-important peacock of a Slytherin. Nabi's ex, here alone of course. Probably by choice, or so he’d claim. Aamon’s brow twitched almost imperceptibly. Aamon had stolen Matt's girlfriend, served him right, she was too good for him anyways. But it was really about revenge, the poison ivy incident was not what drove him over the end, it simply validated him. At the snogfest in the common room he had discovered the deceitful snake that Campbell actually was. A part of him wanted to dismiss it, it was a mistake, a misunderstanding. He was nearly certain that there was no mistake but he became certain once Matthew infested his bed with poison ivy flakes. Matthew spiced Aamon's bed like a cheap pasta dish with discount Italian seasoning.
“Looks like someone’s flying solo tonight,” Aamon muttered under his breath with a grin. “Hope the dance floor has enough room for all that brooding. Wouldn’t want him to step on his own ego.”
Aamon looked back at Nabi quickly, the warmth returning to his mismatched gaze like clouds parting after a very petty, internal thunderstorm. “Anyway. Not my problem.” He internally concluded.
Nabi would pull him from the momentary distraction. “Let us see if those dance tutors you told me of paid off... try not to step on me…”
“Oh don’t worry,” Aamon announced with potentially misplaced confidence. “I trained in ballroom under no fewer than seven highly offended private instructors. One of them was a retired banshee, two were enchanted suits of armor, and one—listen, I’m not saying the Veela was a distraction, but I definitely failed her final.” That was a different number and a different series of alleged instructors. An interesting choice, to lie, but his earnest expression did not seem to betray a sense of deceit. A joke maybe? He was not much of a jokester, but people seemed pretty intent on laugh at rather than with him, that was comedic gold in a way, wasn't it?
“I like the embroidery... it reminds me of my parents’ designs.”
His mismatches eyes flickered downward. The hems had a faint design almost embossed with a silk-like thread. Certainly not flora, everything had purpose in the Athanatos family and this was no exception. "Runes," he claimed.
Then she looked at him and said the words that short-circuited the rest of his night.
“You look handsome in blue.”
“…Thanks,” Aamon replied, suddenly very aware of his own limbs. “I—uh—I was gonna wear green, but then I realized I always wear green, and you said blue and this felt like a blue kind of night, y’know? Like the color of good decisions. Or ocean vibes. Or, like, blueberry pastries but classy.” He was rambling like an idiot. Then he gave a bashful shrug, his lopsided grin slipping right back into place.
And as the next song began, Aamon charming, slightly off-balance, and entirely sincere—took her hand, ready to dance like his knees had finally remembered how.

Im sorry guys but this post was made late my computer broke down and i got it fixed
"why not?" Mikey says. I smile as he takes my hand. The music was upbeat and lively. I danced along to the music and when the song ened i laughed. That was a lot of fun. Mikey said he needed a break and was gonna get something to drink. He said hell meet me later at the garden of eden. I smile and say bye then walk away. Right before i left I turn around. Everyone was happy and dancing. I laugh out loud when I saw Mikey again. He was frozen as another girl talked to him. He snapped out of it and I smile. He always seems to be nervous about a lot of things.
I move just a little so im not right in front of the doors. I watch the party go on for a little while. Then all of a sudden the girl that said shed love for us to join her came across my mind. Dev I think was her name. And she seemed super nice. I stay there for a moment or two and consider my options. I could stay here and maybe find someone else to talk to or I could leave and go find Dev and Lucy. I choose the second option. I turn and walk out of the doors.

Mikey's fit of laughter had his sides hurting and his eyes watering. "Are you okay? Why are you laughing so hard? Did something happen?" Avery said with a mix of concern and amusement in her tone. It was hard to describe exactly what or how he was feeling or why he had suddenly burst into laughter. It was as if he was hit by a wave of calm and happiness that washed away all of his concerns and fears. The weight of the situation unfolding around him no longer seemed so heavy and he was just having fun.
"I think I'm just happy!" Mikey was able to say while getting his laughter under control. "I don't think I've felt this good in a long time." Finally regaining his composure he led Avery a few steps away from the dance floor so they could talk without getting in anyone's way. "It's been a big change leaving family to be at school most of the year. But tonight it all feels like it's all going to be ok." He looked into Avery's eyes once again and smiled.
It was so easy to maintain eye contact with her. Like he had known her forever or maybe in a past life as ridiculous as that sounded in his head. But there was still something there in her eyes that seemed out of place, almost hidden. "How are you doing with all of this?" Mikey asked not wanting to control the conversation. He made a sweeping gesture with his hand to emphasize that he meant more than just the soiree. "I mean with all of it you know?"

✽Avery smiled when he said he was happy. Avery was surprised to find that she too was happy. Especially now that things had become a lot more fun. She gave a quick glance to Dylan to find that he was just watching them dance while smirking. She rolled her eyes at that. She knew exactly what he was going to say about this later.
Avery agreed when Mikey said it had been hard to leave his family. She remembered how hard it was to leave her father on her birthday. Though, she didn't really miss her mother. Her mother had made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with Avery when she didn't even tell her daughter goodbye or happy birthday, but instead she kept herself knee deep in work. "I agree. It was hard to leave my dad since we're pretty close."
Avery bit her lip when he asked her how things were going. She was debating of whether or not she should say what she was really going through or hide it behind her mask like she always did. She had only told one other person about what was really happening, and that had gone well, so maybe she would tell Mikey. Something inside Avery told her that he would possibly understand, though she wasn't sure if that was true or not.
"Well, honestly, not that great. To keep it short, a few months back my father sent me an owl saying that my grandfather was sick. He didn't go into any details or anything about what was happening no matter how much I asked until about a month ago. I eventually took the floo network to my grandparent's house in Wales and got to visit him after many years of not seeing him, and why I didn't see him for multiple years is a whole other story. When I got there, I found out he had a deadly disease called dragon pox. There is a cure, but he refused, and it's been. . . really hard to watch him suffer. My cousin and I were really close to him when we were little. Though, I haven't actually told my cousin yet. I didn't want to ruin his night. This night has actually felt like a breath of fresh air. Especially now." Avery explained as she gave him a half smile and gestured toward where Dylan stood.
"What about you? How's life been?" Avery asked. ✽

~~~~~ The Spring Soirée ~~~~~
~Outfit~Reducio
Robin must have drifted off into her thoughts a little too hard because when Odette told her that there was not a chicken squawking up the dance floor, she was slightly disappointed. Sure, a kid in a chicken costume is somewhat wicked, but it’s not a real bird, and thus Robin’s obsession immediately waned, though it did come back slightly when Odette mentioned the rock that was in a chick costume.
“Huh,” Robin said, trying to imagine the odd pairing, when Odette continued, responding to her comment about the pretty girl potentially being a Veela.
“Robin, you say that about every pretty person you meet. I’m offended you never thought I was one." The girl huffed, clearly a bit perturbed.
“It’s time to admit that you’re just weak for anyone remotely good-looking. If I were you, I’d worry more about a traditionally attractive person since they are way more common than a veela.” Robin took a moment to think about her friend’s words, a slight smirk on her face because she knew there was some truth in them. She supposed that she could be a bit distracted when it came to the occasional attractive person - was she just supposed to pretend a pretty person wasn’t pretty? No, she could never - she just liked to appreciate people who just happened to be touched by the gods.
“To sum it up, you’re screwed. Veela or not.”
This finally pulled a laugh out of Robin’s throat, especially considering the direction her thoughts had flowed into. She couldn’t argue with her friend - it seemed like she had been more aware of Robin’s habits throughout the year than she had realized. The girl had an especially challenging time paying attention in Transfiguration class - why was their professor so handsome?? The funniest part of the situation is that as much as Robin liked to ogle, she wasn’t really interested in people much more than appreciating them from afar. She supposed she had made a few friends throughout the year, but she couldn't imagine the implications of what she and a romantic relationship were to look like. Robin felt too young and inexperienced for any kind of romantic relationship - it’s not like the girl could control her urges to crush on people; that was impossible, but even if her crush actually responded to her, which was nigh impossible, Robin couldn’t possibly imagine engaging with them. She wasn’t sure if it was the nerves that the thought of any kind of intimacy gave her, or if it was just because she was simply quite reasonable for her age, but she couldn’t imagine herself falling in love at twelve years old. Granted, who knows? Robin always had a soft spot for the lovebirds in her favorite books. Maybe the Clyde to her Bonnie was somewhere in the Great Hall, completely unbeknownst to her. Lost in a daydream, she hadn’t realized she was staring until Odette spoke up again.
“Robin! You know what we need to do? We need to build your hottie tolerance! All you have to do is ask someone good-looking to dance. Easy, right?” Robin choked on her drink, setting her goblet down and pounding her chest, eyes widened and staring at Odette with the most horrified look she could imagine.
“Dance! Me!?” Clutching a hand to her chest and leaning back, staring Odette dead in the eyes. She held the scene for as long as she could before bursting into giggles. Yes, giggles. The thought of Robin going up and asking someone to dance with her wasn’t absolutely terrifying- she loved to dance! But she wanted to lead Odette on for a minute, letting her believe that Robin was horrified. “Just pulling you on, butt.” Robin teased, finally dropping the act by casually using the Welsh term of endearment.
“Let’s go dance, then!” Robin smiled widely, standing up from the table, chair scraping against the floor. She snatched the girl’s wrist and pulled her out of her seat, dragging her toward the dance floor, weaving in and out through the crowds of students. Robin smirked, passing her friend Mikey, who was dancing with a pretty girl she hadn’t met. Robin would most certainly be teasing him about the giant smile on his face later on back in the common room.
Robin finally stopped and turned to Odette, letting go of the girl’s arm. The Celtic-style music filled her spirit, and she found herself already kicking her feet, hands raised straight in the air, the largest smile beaming. Robin wasn’t the greatest dancer, but she could most certainly keep a beat, swinging herself around in circles to the rhythm of the folk song, circling her friend, who still seemed to be recovering from the sudden change of scenery. Robin’s eyes momentarily caught sight of the boy in the chicken costume, and her smile turned into a cackle, feet continuing to tap away to the upbeat tunes. Robin couldn’t help but appreciate how much fun she was having.
“Dance with me, hottie!” Robin roared, feeling herself finally loosen up now that her and Odette were on the dance floor - this was what she imagined when she heard of the ball. It was pure luck that the Celts made such good music - she wouldn’t want it any other way.
The Spring Soirée
Mikey’s smile faded slightly, not in sadness, but in that kind of way where someone really listens, where your heart softens a bit just by hearing the weight in someone else’s words. He kept his eyes on Avery not breaking that thread of connection even for a second.
“That’s, yeah. That’s a lot.” He said as he took a breath, the kind that seemed to steady something deeper inside. “I’m really sorry you’re going through that. And that you had to carry it around tonight. I can’t imagine how hard that must be, seeing someone you love refuse help like that and have to watch them suffer.” His voice lowered a bit, just enough to match the vulnerability she must be feeling. “Thank you for trusting me with that. Really.”
He looked over at Dylan briefly and then back to Avery, that half-smile of hers mirrored on his own face. “You know" he said "you do a good job of carrying things. I wouldn’t have guessed any of that. But I’m glad tonight’s felt like a breath of fresh air. You deserve it.”
He hesitated a moment, then continued, this time with his more of spark returning, though softer now. “Life’s been complicated, I guess. My family’s good people. Kind, loving, loud.” He laughed quietly. “But I think I’ve always felt a little out of step. Like I don’t always fit the mold even when no one’s asking me to.” Mikey glanced down at his shoes, then up again with a shrug. “There’s this part of me that’s just always thinking. Feeling. Trying to understand things that don’t really have answers. Death, life, what’s beyond the veil. Stuff most eleven year olds probably don’t sit around thinking about.”
He gave a small chuckle, self-aware but not ashamed. “But tonight, tonight’s felt like maybe that’s okay. Like maybe you don’t have to have it all figured out to enjoy dancing with someone kind.” He smiled again, more fully this time. “So yeah, life’s a work in progress. But tonight, I’m really glad I’m here.” Then, gently “With you.” He started to feel his cheeks getting warmer as soon as he said it. "I mean I'm having a good time tonight and I hope we can be friends after the soiree."
