Teiki glanced around, looking at the books and the long expanse of shelves. She had tried to stay away from this area for a while, simply because the first impression had been groups of quiet people chatting or starting arguments. Deciding to finally explore around, though, Teiki noticed the utterly silent parts of the library, and how vast it was. Lazily looking at the spines of books, her small hand grabbed one that looked slightly interesting. It appeared to be about the wizarding world's version of social status. She skimmed a few of the pages, realizing how little she knew about this topic. After all, her family had sort of been secluded, and she was a halfblood, so she knew about and grown up in both worlds.
Teiki found an empty corner to settle down in, flipping through the pages, learning a little bit about the culture of purebloods and wizardborns. Throughout the book, purebloods seemed to be always worried about their lineage, and that it would continue spotless. Teiki grimaced slightly, wondering how they could have such a point of view on people. But what about the other side? How is it like to grow up without magic? Is it similar, different? Teiki wasn't sure, but she did want to talk to someone about it. There were bound to be plenty of muggleborns, right? Even if there weren't, she could have this discussion with anyone, really.

Yoshiya walked into the library and closed the door slowly. Every couple of steps she took, she glanced at the snake emblem on her uniform. She still couldn't believe she was a Slytherin—her personality, her thoughts, everything, were the exact opposite of a Slytherin student. She sat down at the table and took a few books out of her bag. Some of them had moving pictures on their covers, and kept looking at the Muggle books that she possessed, all of which were manga.
Most of her homework had already been completed. Yoshiya was a person that did homework the day it was set, so she just went to the library to read. Taking the first volume of My Hero Academia out of her bag, she started to read it. Of course, it was the Japanese version, but she did have a version in English just in case anyone would talk to her.
She assumed no one would ever talk to her, let alone about manga and other Muggle things. She was a Slytherin, anyway, and that was the house of Dark Wizards and Witches. Glancing at the cover, she sighed.
I should probably be reading books about hopping pots or cackling stumps, she thought. Not comic books about a kid at super school. Throwing the book back in her bag, Yoshiya slumped in her chair and looked around. There was no one to talk to—everyone else was either talking to another person or was reading something.
And then Yoshiya noticed her. A girl, obviously taller than her, but undoubtedly in the same year as herself, holding a leather-bound book in one of her hands. Sorting out her hair, she walked over to the girl. "Hi," she greeted, blushing.

Teiki couldn't yet see her eyes, for the other girl was glancing down at a book, one Teiki didn't recognize, not that Teiki really knew a lot of books anyways. She watched the girl for a little bit, before looking away. The other girl had already noticed Teiki standing besides one of the thousands of lines of bookshelves. Teiki composed herself slightly, making sure she wouldn't be too loud or too excited to the stranger that walked over.
"Hi." The girl said.
"Hi!" Teiki waved, trying to keep her curiosity slightly at bay. She found it interesting that the other girl had decided to walk up to her, but maybe it was because of Teiki's staring? She blushed at the thought, before looking back at the girl.
"My name's Teiki. I'm a first year. How about you?" Teiki assumed this other girl was a First Year, but she didn't want to offend the girl if she happened to be some other year. Teiki glanced down at the book that the other girl was holding. The pictures on the front didn't spark any memories, and the title was in some other language that Teiki didn't recognize.

"What book are you reading?"
This caught Yoshiya off guard. "O-oh, this? It's a Muggle book," she spluttered. "I'm Muggle-born."
Did I need to tell her that? I should've told her what the book's called, Yoshiya thought. And she asked me what year I'm in. After what seemed like ages, Yoshiya finally said something. "It's manga. It's a kind of Japanese comic," she explained. "The one I'm reading is called My Hero Academia. I have an English version if you want to read it."
Yoshiya reached into her bag and pulled out the English version of the manga. "You'd have to read it to understand, but I could give you a summary of the plot if you'd like. Manga is usually read back to front," she said. "Am I talking to much? Sorry."
Why do you have to talk so much? Yoshiya thought to herself. You haven't even answered her main question!
Yoshiya put her face in her hands and sighed. That girl definitely came from a wizarding family. My Hero Academia was quite popular in the Muggle world and was Yoshiya's favourite manga and anime. She knew from Hogwarts: A History that Muggle technology didn't work at Hogwarts, which would mean that she couldn't have shown the girl the anime on a tablet or phone
"Also, I'm first-year as well. I'm very short," she smiled.
"What book are you reading?"

"A muggle book?" Teiki smiled softly as the girl continued.
The girl reached into her bag to grab another book, and offered it to Teiki. Teiki looked a little surprised, but took the offered book. The gave a confused glance at the other girl when the "front" contained a barcode and an introduction of sorts. Once the Slytherin mentioned how the book was supposed to be read, though, Teiki flipped over the book.
"Thanks." Teiki said, starting to flip through the pages. Teiki had seen a few of these, but had never really been interested in sitting down to look at words. This sort of book, though, felt more like something Teiki would actually read in her free time.
"Oh! Don't ever worry about talking too much. I'm almost sure I'll be the one that is more talkative." Teiki laughed.
"A fellow first year! Nice!" Teiki smiled before quieting down a bit. She wasn't sure if it was considered insensitive to talk about status, or whatever purebloods like to call it. But Teiki's curiosity always took over, as Teiki had never learned the skill of keeping excitement or curiosity at bay.
"Muggleborn? Cool. I'm a halfblood. I was wondering, what was it like to get the letter?" Teiki blushed before looking around, making sure no one would hear unless the two wanted them to over hear.

Yoshiya thought for a second. "Er... It was strange," she said, once again sorting out her black hair. "I was supposed to be going to this secondary school somewhere in Central London before I got my letter. My parents and I were quite confused.
"I mean, I'd known about magic ever since that witch told me off for playing on her broom after she misplaced it, but I'd never think I would be one of them," she continued. "Everybody at school thought I was weird because of things that must've been by magic."
Yoshiya worried that she was talking again. Even though Teiki had told her that she was usually the talkative one, Yoshiya never talked this much. "I got handed my letter by what I assumed to be school faculty. According to Hogwarts: A History, owls are used to deliver acceptance letters to half-bloods and pure-bloods. I guess Muggle-borns wouldn't know about the whole owl thing, so they would have to be visited."
Yoshiya glanced up and looked around to see if anyone was listening. No one was, so she continued talking. "It was a moderately warm Tuesday in early June when I got my letter. I can't remember the exact date it was. When did you get your letter?"

OOC: Well, that took a lot of research. I know about the whole wizarding world thing, but I didn't know the exact date people got them on. Apparently, it's either on their birthday or some other date before 31 July.

Teiki thought about it for a while. Of course, she would never be able to get a full understanding of how the events would have felt for the other girl, but you Teiki... Well, it was interesting. She probably would have had a different reaction when the witch scolded the girl for using the witch's broom.
"Confused, huh? I could understand why!" Teiki laughed softly. She was thinking some letters their family had received, or some of the commercials she had seen on the television. Not nearly as life-changing, but still quite odd.
She had a few questions about other experiences, but Teiki decided to keep quiet until she had answered the questions the other girl had given her.
"I got my letter on my birthday, or maybe around it. Being a halfblood, I had desperately wanted to be like my cousin, so I worried for a while about not getting my letter. She went to hogwarts as well and had told me all these stories.." Teiki sighed softly, embarrassed at her previous self.
"Mine came via owl. I was really happy, so I fed it some of the leftover cake. I'm not sure that helped the exhausted bird."
"What did you think about the letter at first? And your parents? Also, I'm sorry for my rudeness, but I don't actually know your name...?"

"I remember my parents were pretty surprised," she continued. "They accepted the existence of magic and such, but not before the school faculty person had to perform a little spell. I think it was Alohomora. I was quite surprised, but not as much as my parents."
Yoshiya opened her bag and took out Hogwarts: A History. "This was the first book I bought when I went to Flourish and Blotts, and is the first book I read," she said. "I clearly remember my dad trying to buy it, along with all my other books, with a few five pound notes. Of course, the manager couldn't accept them, and we had to go over to Gringotts to change it."
"I have a question for you," said Yoshiya. "Do wizards and witches have electricity? I heard that some wizards don't, and I know that electronic devices don't work at Hogwarts." Teiki had said she was a half-blood, but Yoshiya didn't know whether both of her parents were magical or just one of them.
Yoshiya realised that she somehow had a good knowledge of the wizarding world. Those books taught me a lot, thought Yoshiya.

"Well, nice to meet you Yoshiya!" Teiki smiled, and listened. Her point of view was interesting. She had always thought that muggleborns knew nothing of magic. She was stereotyping, she slowly began to realize, noticing how her behavior subconsciously showed that as well.
"Alohomora is a good spell to show, although it can easily be assumed as a mastery in lock-picking. I'm glad you're parents believed that magic existed. You seem like a really nice person. Do you have any ideas as to why you were put in as Slytherin?" Teiki glanced down at Yoshiya's robes, wondering if the robes should be yellow. But the hat was always right. Or, at least, right enough.
"How was Gringotts? Honestly, it's always spooked me. I don't know why." Teiki nodded.
"Well, it all depends on the family. My family watched television and used pens. Others, though, would rather stay away from muggle items. It doesn't make sense. Some of them are quite useful. Like pens... I think they're so much better than quills. Quills and ink just seem messy to me." Teiki smiled softly, hoping her explanation was decent enough. "Gringotts was the first time I saw a magical creature—a goblin," Yoshiya said, softly. "Do you count those as creatures, or something else? They're not in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so they can't be beasts."
"My parents were surprised, and very confused, but I knew to expect the unexpected," she giggled. "When I saw all sorts of strange things going on I knew they were to do with magic. The newspaper photos moving caught me off guard a little, however."
"Maybe the old-fashionedness has something to do with the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy," said Yoshiya, once again sorting out her hair. "I think there are ways that magic could benefit Muggles, and vice versa. The law itself was enacted when witch hunts and burning at the stake were common, but no Muggles do that these days. This isn't turning into a row about the law, so I'll stop."
Yoshiya wondered whether or not Teiki used the internet. The internet was an everyday thing for her, or at least it was before she'd been accepted into Hogwarts. She checked the time and then looked outside. Condensation was starting to gather on the windows, meaning it must've been pretty cold—probably freezing down in the Slytherin dungeon, if it wasn't for the fireplace.
