A new year, A worse day Finished

Wood Crunching beneath it's claws as it crested over a log. The cold air over the night blowing through its's fur. The smell of fear strong among the earth and pine and fungus of the woods. Heavy panting as it's prey ran from it. It's eyes dilating as it's prey scrambled to their feet, reeking of fear with nothing but a branch to fend the beast off.
"FUCK" Kyle roared as his hands went to the side of his head. Despite the memory having happened months ago its as if that night was happening all over again, right before him. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.
The beast tensed and then pounced, tackling it's prey as he tried desperately to fend the beast off. It's prey scrambled back, muttering words that meant nothing to the beast. until finally one word got through. "p-p-please..." the beast cocked it's head as if confused by the sound of those words, but only for a moment. The hunt was done. It was time to finish things. Then...its pounced
"FUCK!" Kyle screamed again. His blood was on fire, the hairs on the back of his neck stood tall, his brain ached, he tasted the sickening coppery taste of blood, he heard crunching and tearing, wet sounds of dripping. and the word that got through echoed through his mind. "P-p-please". It felt like the word was crashing into the sides of his skull and each time it connected his face winced in pain.

This was that Kids fault. The Hufflepuff boy...what his name...did it matter? he was a just a scrawny rabbit that Kyle felt like having some fun at the expense of. He was nothing, nobody important. And yet he had the nerve, the damned GALL to bring up Duke. He had no right! He was going to pay, Kyle would see to that. Where did he get off to anyway? That's right, he ran. All the way back to the common room he wouldn't wager. It didn't matter though eventually he would need to leave his room. and when he did...Kyle would show the rabbit just how much of a beast he really was.

Kyle rubbed his face, around his eyes looked strained and the whites of his eyes were blood shot with something primal and feral in his gaze as he paced back and forth , muttering to himself, occasionally his face twitched in discomfort as another image or sound or smell from the memory Jake ripped to the surface flashed through his mind.

anyone with sense or reason would take one look at the scene and move on in order to not get pulled into the Chaos was was brewing within the angry boy. Then again this was Hogwarts...how many students here REALLY chose to avoid such situations?

San had been taking a walk just wanting to get some fresh air but coming back to this area brought back a memory that hurt. The look on Rook’s face when he left the tone in his voice it was as if he had just 180 within seconds and she didn’t know what she had done wrong. She was determined to try and just be okay with it all after all she didn’t even think she was going to come here and make friends anyway so why worry about losing something that she didn’t have in the first place? She walked slowly dressed in her black jeans, chucks, a simple t-shirt, and her favorite jacket. It was black leather with cloth sleeves and a cloth hood.

It was then that she heard a “FUCK” ring through the air and she recognized that voice even if it was angry she felt her stomach hollow out. Rook. She broke off into a dead run in the direction that she thought she heard his shout come from. Nothing mattered their fight didn’t matter. Rook was all that mattered right now. Was he okay? All she knew was that she needed to get to him to help with whatever it was that was happening. She saw him and slowed as she got closer. Something most certainly was wrong, but he was alone. “Rook, what’s wrong?” She asked him no hesitation in her voice. He looked like a caged animal needing to run free, bloodshot eyes, a slight twitch in his face. She had seen this before at the hospital. She had seen her mother care for people going through something similar… maybe? She wasn’t certain she could help but she would be damned if she didn’t try.

She would attempt to move closer to him and even reach out a hand to try and touch his arm. Although she was a little afraid she wasn’t so afraid that she couldn’t try to comfort him. What happened at the lake last time didn’t matter, none of it mattered. Rook was in some form of pain and she needed to try and talk him down from whatever ledge it was that he was standing on. “Just talk to me”. She didn’t care if he screamed at her, cussed her out, it didn’t matter as long as she could get him talking.

Kyle was oblivious to the world around him as he paced back and forth. He needed to go somewhere, do something, scream, fight, break something. Anything to release the anger and rage and pain and fear that was swirling around inside him. If he didn't find some kind of outlet, any kind he felt like he might explode right here next to the Lake.

It was in that moment that every fiber of his being was aware there was someone there. A threat? a danger? an enemy? doesn't matter. They were there and they shouldn't be. No one should. He turned on the person who reached out to touch him and using both of his hands he reached out and shoved as hard as he could to force them back and away from him. "Back off!" he Snarled at them. It wasn't until the girl hit the ground and let out a yelp of surprise at his rage and outburst of aggression. This wasn't a play push into the water, This was a hard shove from a very angry individual.

He rubbed his face and and let out an frustrated half groan, half sigh. "Muppet you need to get the hell away from me. Right now if you know whats good for you"

San didn’t even see it coming as he turned to her and pushed her back hard it eliciting a yelp from her lips. She tumbled to the ground a gasp of pain as she collided with the earth. Her hair hung over her face as she stared at the grass… Just breath it’s ok. She was shaking slightly as she had never been afraid of someone before. He sighed and called her Muppet and it renewed her strength. This was her friend she wasn’t going to back down that easily. With one arm, she swiped her hair out of her face letting it cascade onto her back. She would stand up and stare at him defiantly, regardless of the tears welling up in her eyes from the pain. Her hands might have been balled up into fists if they hadn’t been a bit scuffed up from her landing a new rip had formed in her jeans over her right knee.

Just breath. “I’m not the one that matters here, Rook. I’m here for you. I may not know what is going on with you lately, but whatever it is you don’t have to go through it alone. You can push me away but I’ll keep coming back.” There is only one way he could actually get rid of her and that would be to tell her that he wanted nothing to do with her. “You’re my best friend, Rook, I’m not just going to leave you like this. Talk to me, yell, scream, cuss me out, hit me… I’m not going anywhere.” She swallowed hard fighting her own emotions, tears threatening to spill over onto her cheeks but she was determined not to cry in front of him. Again she took a step forward but she did not reach out to touch him this time. “Just talk to me.”

that was a word that cut deep. Deeper than he thought it could. Deeper than any word had ever cut before. Best Friend

Duke and Kyle met in the same day care when a bigger boy pushed Duke over and Kyle hit the kid over the head with a toy. While he got put in the corner later that day Duke gave Kyle half of his cookies and in return Kyle gave him some of his Graham Crackers. From that day on you never saw one boy without the other. They played together, got in trouble together, fought together, they did everything together. Even though Duke never showed the slightest hint of magical potential, much to his parents dismay, Kyle was fiercely loyal to him and never wavered in his friendship.

As they grew older the parents of the boys accepted their co-dependence and frequently took turns housing and feeding the two and even brought the visiting child on vacations. It was Duke, who gave Kyle the nickname Rook. He got the name after wizards chess, Since he was 'The Duke' which is a nobleman that led soldiers like a king, His closest friend who always had his back and always showed up exactly when needed was his Rook. A powerful piece if not someone single minded in its assaults.

Duke was Kyle's one and only friend for a decent chunk of his life. He was Kyle's best friend...And now he was gone and it was his fault. Now this girl Sees Kyle as her best friend...how long until he hurt her too? no. He wouldn't let that happen.

His eyes Narrowed and he shoved one hand into his pocket and ran another hand through his hair. "Were not friends. You are just some snake girl who got me knocked off my broom and knows bugger all about quidditch. Were not friends, Were not anything. So Stay the hell away from me!" he shook his head. Best friend...she had to be completely mad. Why would she want him as a best friend. If she knew what he was and the things he did she wouldn't even want to be in the same room as him. "Well Bugger off!"

She looked at him like he had just struck her across the face. Not friends… How could he say that? Her right hand balled into a fist and was held just over her heart a protective stance. One that she was also used to hide the fact that she was digging her nails into her already scuffed up palm. The pain from her palm, however, was not why the tears finally won the battle as they silently spilled down her cheeks. Her right eyebrow cocked up as she stared at him no longer capable of hiding how much his bite truly hurt her.

She swallowed hard her silvery voice a little more than a whisper. “Not friends Rook?” She looked down at her feet for a moment thoughts processing through her head mounting her defense before those sharp sapphire eyes snapped back up to him ready to fight. Her silvery voice holding far more conviction to it now than even she had thought possible. I didn’t knock you off of your broom. Your own carelessness did. I was the one that rushed over to help you. I was the one that wrestled a bludger to the ground for you.” She briefly licked her lips before continuing on her barrage against him.

Her face started to flush with her emotions, and it could be seen that she trembled slightly, but this was not out of fear. This was out of anger. “You inviting me to eat lunch with you was not friendship? The first thing you did after you got knocked out of your dodgeball game was find ME and you hugged me to get me covered in water!” As she spoke her voice continued to stay the same volume but the words seemed to hold more intensity behind them. “You owled your mom to have her send your projector and reels just to show me games of the Kestrels because I had never seen a game before. You encouraged my decision to join my quidditch team.”

Although the tears weren’t flooding her face anymore, they still fell freely and she clenched her jaw. “Not friends?” She closed the distance between them but still did not touch him. Since he was a decent amount taller than her she looked up at him with her hard sapphire eyes. “You’re a dirty liar Kyle DeRook. I don’t know why you are trying to push me away, but don’t you dare try to tell me we aren’t friends. I don’t know what is going on with you but I would give anything to understand. I get that you don’t want to talk about something, but you are allowed to have friends. You are allowed to be happy. More importantly, you are allowed to not go through this alone… So tell me one more time Kyle DeRook that we are not fucking friends.” San had never swore before in her whole life, but she now understood why sometimes regular words just didn’t have the right emphasis.

The hell was this girl doing. Using logic and facts? like those had any power here! He didnt care really what she was saying and how true it was. Sure he saw her as his friend, ofcourse they had fun when they hung out. But this wasnt about him being happy, or having friends, or anything like that. This was about Kyle being reminded what he was, And that is a monster. He hurts everyone. Strangers, his family, himself...Duke. nobody was safe. So if he wanted to protect San he needed to make sure that she was nowhere near him. She might hate him but she would get over it in time. As for Kyle, what is a little more pain upon what he already carries on his shoulders?

He rolled his eyes before finally shouting "All you do is Fuckin' Jabber jabber jabber! You can talk, and you can reason, and whatever the hell you want. But it dont matter if you wanna be there if I dont Fuckin' want ya! So leave me the hell alone!" he pushed past her, using his increased height and strength to his advantage and he shoulder checks her as he pushes past. He heard her exclaim from the blow of his shoulder crashing into her but he didnt care. He wanted it to hurt, maybe that would get the message across.

Kyle shoved his hands into his jacket pockets and began to walk away, not noticing the journal left behind by the hufflepuff boy he was tormenting not 20 minutes earlier. He would stop for just a moment before looking over his shoulder. "You want to be miss helpful? help yer self first. Got enough issues myself without you hanging around" and then he would continue to attempt and walk away.

Kyle will leave the thread unless stopped

He shouted at her and she winced because she hadn’t been expecting it. She was at a loss she just didn’t understand what was going on. More importantly, she just wasn’t equipped to fix this not right now. He shoulder checked her and she cried out from both surprise and pain. Her opposite hand went up to her shoulder holding it as renewed tears spilled out onto her cheeks. She felt helpless to help him and that was something that broke her heart.

He walked off and she just stood there holding her shoulder like an idiot… Then he turned back around and for just one second she thought maybe he had changed his mind until he spoke again, but she wouldn’t let him leave without hearing her. “I’m not walking away from you and when you’re ready I’ll be here for you!” She didn’t mean here literally at the lake because at this point she was just ready to avoid this area for the rest of her life, but he would know how to find her if he needed her. No matter what she wasn’t going to walk away from whatever their crazy friendship was.

Her eyes fell to the grass still holding her shoulder zoning out feeling numb. The first friendship she had made already fell apart. Was she really this bad at this? She needed time to process this entire exchange take some space away from him and maybe try to approach him again in a handful of days. She would reach up with both of her hands and wipe her face blinking a few times pulling herself together before she made her way back to the castle. Only something caught her eye a black book… She had never seen Rook with a book before. With a frown, she would bend down and pick it up opening the cover only to see Property of: Jake Morris. That name rang a bell… Wasn’t that the name of the little kid she met at summer camp? This sketchbook was his prized possession why would it just be lying here like this? She would continue her way back to the castle, sketchbook in hand, to try and seek out Jake and return it to him. It would be a small distraction to help her figure out what she could try to do to fix this.

Santario leaves this thread.
