Stage 79 - Deny the Call

You do not know what is happening, not really. But you know one thing with aching clarity:
you want no part of it.

The day before, a handful of students received mysterious packages. Perhaps you were among them. These packages were similarly wrapped, neatly in plain paper. There was no marked sender. No explanation. Before you now was a plain parcel, marked with your name in looping, unfamiliar cursive script. Inside, you know, was a doll. While you had not opened yours, others had.

You would see a dark burlap doll donning a purple top hat and making cloak. You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t want it. And you knew that nothing in this world ever comes for free. Whatever the cost was, it was too steep to risk, especially for something you never invited.

So you left it unopened and untouched. You tried to carry on with your day. Tried. But sometimes the threads of fate are insistent and tangled.

You would feel 'off' all day. The shadows felt longer. The halls too quiet. The whispers in the common room fell when you entered, perhaps they were talking about you. There was a prickling at the back of your neck refused to fade. Still, you pressed forward with your day, denial was a kind of protection, right?

Until Astronomy class.

The sky was blanketed in clouds this night, there were no stars tonight. @Professor Gargamel (there are no specified permissions from Gargamel for godmodding, so I can only assume he teaches class but I cannot give any details) droned on with their lesson. Your quill scratched your parchment half-heartedly. Stars were burning bodies of gas millions of miles away, while beautiful, your mind was elsewhere.

Then, movement beside you. It was not a skitter in the corner of your eye. No, this was an actual student intruding upon your personal space.

It was a classmate. You knew him, one of them pampered purebloods with shoulder length blonde hair that was tied back from his angular face with a hair tie. Handsome, even the straight guys said so. But today his gray eyes seemed dull. His white smile seemed a bit too wide.

In their hands they were holding onto something wrapped in familiar paper. The folds already torn. A purple string dangling loose.

"Hey," they say, voice low, like they’re speaking through water. “This is for you.” Your eyes would rest on what was in their hands, it was your package. The same one you had abandoned this morning. It was unopened this morning but it was open now.

Your name is still on the label. But the handwriting looks… sharper.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Stage 79 - Deny the Call CYOA
Had Avis felt "off" the entire day? Perhaps. Did she feel "off" every day? Yes. Mainly because of psychological manipulation, courtesy of an ironic Hufflepuff, but also because she still had that freaking mark on her hand. Also courtesy of said Hufflepuff. Yes, Avis felt off, but it was easily passed off as the paranoia she consistently felt.

The kid though...he was off. It was the middle of the night, there weren't even any cool stars, and yet he was smiling as if he was throwing a surprise party. Off, but not off enough to tick off Avis' alarms. Not yet, at least. She simply rolled her eyes, and snatched the package. Fine. If everyone was so intent on her getting the package, she would. Frowning, she thanked the boy, annoyed.

the next stage does not have its links in quite yet so i will finish when it does:)
