The house elf would see it, the injured child.

The elf blinked, large eyes gleaming with sudden urgency.

"Oh, oh my, what is this, what has happened to you?" Canbrey whispered, voice soft as silk and wrinkled with worry. The teacups clinked faintly as the tray they were carrying was lowered to the floor.

With no hesitation, Canbrey moved closer. They sniffed the air around the child and frowned, their long fingers tracing arcane patterns as they muttered old words in a dialect not taught at Hogwarts.

"Dark threads, forgotten hands… this is no prank. This is intended, but Canbrey knows what to do." He announced with assurance.

With a sudden snap of their long fingers, a crackle of light shimmered around the child. You would see thread that convulsed, resisted, but Canbrey was older than they looked, and their magic deeper than the surface showed. Another whispered word, a flash of green, and the threads (be them magical threads of healing or the treatment of the child whose mouth was stitched closed depending on where you came from) snapped, curling away into nothingness like dead leaves blown off a tree.

"You can speak now," Canbrey said softly. "But don't. Not yet. Your mind is still tangled."

The elf reached down, picked up the tray again, and gently handed the rescued student and whomever brought them to the medical wing a teacup. "Drink. It will calm you. Forget the fear. Forget the pain."

Stage 37: Lending a Hand
Mellani looked at the house elf as they lowered the tray with teacups and leaned closer to the injured student, saying something in a dialect Mell did not understand. She watched as light illuminated the child and magical threads or something of that sort broke.

The elf slowly told the student that they could speak, but that their mind was tangled. Mellani wondered what the hell that was supposed to mean, but this elf probably knew what they were doing, so she decided not to say anything.

When the elf offered her tea, Mellani smiled and thanked them, drinking it.

The house elf, upon hearing the students' brief explanation of the situation, began muttering under their breath in something that sounded and awful load like gibberish to Joseph.

He was just about to call for more help just in case the elf had gotten panic-induced seizure when they spoke again, clearly in English this time. Not that the message was any clearer.

In fact, that was the most ominous thing he ever heard that day.

"Sorry?" Joseph breathed, his mind doing cartwheels as he tried to process the situation. Something about this felt terribly wrong.

"Drink." The elf instructed, raising a teacup and offering it to him with spindly fingers. "It will calm you. Forget the fear. Forget the pain."

Joseph opened his mouth to protest. Pain? What pain were they talking about? And fear? His biggest fear right now was probably the creepily serene elf standing before him, offering a way out of the problems he didn't know he was facing.
