William strolled casually through the empty hallway. Classes had ended not too long ago, but he had stayed longer avoiding the sea of students. He liked silence most of the time. Adults were noisy, but children, he had quickly learned, even more so. With only the sound of his footsteps, he could think to himself. Not for grades nor socialising, simply to dream about what he hoped to realise. He could talk to himself without looking weird when he was alone and talking out loud help organize his idea like nothing else could.

He’d thought about it while working on his homework the other day and it kept tickling his mind through his classes today. Finally, he could organize his scattered ideas, setting them up like he would do an interview. His hand traveled lightly on his bag, resting only for short periods of time. He muttered to himself loud enough for any passing by ears to hear. He knew his idea was right. William knew what problems it had caused. His parents had almost had heart attacks. If they had known about it, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal. They had the right to know. Muggles should've had the right to know. Almost as fast as his head cleared, he clouded it with slight anger at the prospect of not knowing. He had panicked when he had done magic for the first time. His anger flared up and he loudly exclaimed, sure he was alone, "Muggles should have the right to know about magic. It isn't fair for those who didn't know about it to get it thrown in their faces, that's why.

The corridors were rather empty which, wasn't odd per say, but somehow he'd just expected to see more people on his way to the ground floor. The again, he had been a bit slower than usual leaving the owlery so that might've been why. Frowning at the barren halls he picked up his pace a bit, walk turning into a slight jog, clutching the heavy thing to his chest when it continued to bang against his side as he moved.

Turning a corner he slowed when he finally saw somebody, jog turning into a quick walk. He shoved one hand through the mess that was now his hair, black strands sticking up and looking like bed head despite how he'd tried to tame it not an hour earlier. Though it looked at least presentable now that his fingers had patted down the wilder strays. The other boy, as now he could tell it was a boy, hadn't noticed him yet. Too caught up in his thought's if the way he was just standing there meant anything.

Figuring the other was just thinking he didn't bother to stop, quickly moving past the other and hearing his next words oh so clearly as he'd just passed the other by. He found the others words slightly annoying, irritating really but above all? He found the idea so incredibly stupid. Scoffing slightly as he moved by and muttering slightly under his breath on how ridiculous the idea was.

"Muggles knowing? A disaster in the making," he laughed, more to himself than anything.

After his exclamations, he finally noticed a boy, probably in the same year as him, walking past him. William really hadn't meant for someone else to hear. The Gryffondor, as the robes told him, had took him completely by surprise. The slytherin reddened a little bit before he caught what the other obviously meant for himself. So muggles shouldn't know about magic in his opinion. This was totally wrong for William. Had the boy even lived in the muggle world before Hogwarts?

Without waiting a beat, William grabbed the edge of the boy's robes. He could feel a slight anger simming through his mind, prompting his action. He'd had a personal experience on how much it could hurt when muggles finally learned about it. He was just lucky it hadn't stay that way as long as it could. That was in the past. If wanted to win the obvious argument that was preparing he had to clear his mind. He huffed before asking back, " And how would you know how it would end? You've got a "je ne sais quoi" that can tell you" He smirked, letting the robes go and crossing his arms. Maybe the other's parents had the same reaction as his, but had never accepted it. Maybe it was just a pureblood's stuck up idea of the muggle world. He would learn soon enough.

He gasped when the other grabbed his robes, almost tripping over himself with the pace he'd been going at. Giving the other a dirty look he snatched his robe away with a small scowl, slapping at the other boys hand and taking a step back to get away from him.

"What do you think you're doing!" he snarled angrily, "you can't just grab people like that."

Green eyes narrowed at the others tone and he had to resist the very real and sudden urge to punch the boy in the jaw. He could tell right away this was going along swimmingly seeing as how he'd never had that urge before.

"Are you kidding?" he scoffed, "just take a look at muggle track records. Witch hunts ring a bell? You can't seriously believe that it's safe for the muggle world to know about all this."

He shook his head, tone going flat with the absurdity of the situation, "I bet at least 5 percent of the muggle populace will instantly name us 'evil' just like back then," he eyed the other as if he'd grown a second head, " muggles aren't ready to accept such a thing like the wizarding world" he deadpanned.

His hazel eyes narrowed as the boy slapped his hand away. William crossed his arms all ready to slap back the gryffindor. Maybe grabbing his robes wasn't the best way to keep him there, but slapping him was going to far. He just wanted to explain his position. Albeit, it wasnt the best way to go about it it would seem.

A great urge to punch the boy before him overcame William. The slytherin knew punching wouldn't solve their little argument, but oh, did he wanted to. Clenching and unclenching his fist while he talked and digging his nails into his palm let him wash the urge away.

When he brought up the witch hunts, William wanted to laugh and he almost did. He'd had his answer if this was is argument
His tutor always told him to use the newest example to complete his argument. Witch hunts ended eons ago. Muggles weren't like that anymore, at least most of them.

William sucked in a breath ready to answer back, but the boy continued on. What he said next wasn't wrong for one thing. But that was certainly not something to rely on. If muggles were not ready to learn about magic, what were his parents, other muggleborn parents and half-bloods parent? The other looked at him weirdly, to wich he replied with a quick glare, locking eyes with the green ones of the other boy. He then spat out"Witch Hunts ended long ago. We're not in the nineteenth century anymore, muggles are more and more accepting, even more than wizards. I can talk from experience. Most of them wouldn't even bat an eye at a new society, they've discovered more strange things than that. Some of which wizard aren't even accustomed to. Ever heard of the Internet? Or his it too muggle-ish for you."

Elsian eyed the other, taking in the others words and instantly feeling very unnerved. His feelings were easily mixed on muggles and muggleborn which made it hard to say his piece without feeling somehow...like a traitor whenever he thought back to the muggleborn he actually thought highly of. Still, the wizarding world being revealed to the rest of the world? Despite the fact he knew some good might come from it the dangers made them seem far too small to give any real chance.

Maybe muggles weren't as bad as before but he knew for a fact the wizard reveal would cause plenty of problems for both parties. It didn't take much for something to be painted in a certain light and he the muggle media excelled at exaggeration and feeding the masses only certain info. They were worse than the wizarding press with all their technology!

"Alright. Lets say we reveal the wizarding world to the rest of the world. What do you think will happen?" he asked, arms wrapping around himself as he spoke.

"Look, you have some good points. I won't lie. Muggles have gotten better, more open." he admitted with a nod, "but, it'd still cause more problems than good. Religious conspiracies, attempts to weaponize magic, hunting magical creatures...these things would happen and quickly at that with how connected the muggle world is thanks to technology." He gave the other boy a small look, as if daring him to challenge his next words, "People will want to use magic for power, to weaponize it, to solve their problems; lots of people would want magical solutions for everything because they wouldn't know better. And because they don't know better we'd have to go about teaching entire countries about magic which just like any other subject can be hard."

"Our numbers are pathetically small compared to muggles. I'm not so proud that I can't admit that. If it came down to a power struggle, which it would eventually, muggles have the advantage, they have the power and numbers for it while we don't ."

Most muggleborn didn't know just how small the wizarding world was compared to the muggle one. He wondered if this boy had ever been told by anyone. Most weren't.

"Whether it be a power struggle on the battle field or outside we're at a disadvantage. One that would be hard to fix because media is everywhere and not trustworthy period. Bad news sells, something that's easily the same both here and in the muggle world. Your internet? Perfect example."

Because oh how he was close to the press. It was something that didn't change no matter where you were. Bad press and gossip always overshadowed the truth or good news.

"And that's just to name some basic problems without even going into details." he said, curling fingers into his robe. "You're right we don't have to fear witch hunts anymore, we have worse now."

He frowned, gripping his bag to fix it to his side. He had to go. He hadn't even meant to get caught up in a debate like this...

"I have to go." he mumbled, making a move to step away and get back on his route.

"Wait!" William raised his arm to grab the boy's robes, retracting at the last second. He didn't know really what pushed him to stop the Gryffondor. Maybe the truly good arguments he'd made and the subsequent discussion. It ressembled some of them he'd had with his father.

He took a deep breath. The boy was right, on some point, and a little rivalry had taken place in William's head. "You do have a point, I'm not as knowledgeable as you are with the magical community. We trive on bad news and technologies provides us, sure. Theories would arise to, it's something politicians and every high-placed person has had to deal with. " He clutched his bag's strap. He knew about that. The high society is a minefield of theories and dirty little secrets. "With the right techniques or plan, it would lessen those effects. The power struggle you're talking about his something humankind has had to deal with forever and something any wise man would avoid. Both sides are more than armed both on the battlefield and outsides. We're all human after all."

William sighed. His father always told him to wait before sprouting ideas. He wasn't knowledgeable enough about both sides of the argument and made a rash decision, again. He passed a hand trough his hair huffing. "I liked the banter, thanks, but I can't see how two young wizard can solve that problem. Maybe you're right or maybe I am. Let's just call it truce for that particular topic, non?" William wanted to hit himself. Why did his slight annoyance had to slip through there?

He frowned, half ready to slap at the others hand at the boys grabby fingers when he stopped halfway. He wasn't quite sure why he bothered stopping, part of him wanting to do nothing more than ignore the other but he did stop in the end. Watching the boy with narrowed eyes ready to turn on the other the moment he felt like the other boy was going to insult or spout a bunch of nonsense. Really he had no time for that.

What the other started to say was...well, unexpected to say the least. A welcome surprise of course, much more pleasant than the backtalk he half expected judging how the other had acted before but nonetheless...definitely unexpected.

He found himself nodding along to the others words, body slouching more relaxed as he listened because really, he hadn't had a good conversation like this since he came here! Still he didn't miss the way the other slipped back into an annoyed tone, sounding slightly high and mighty. Though he didn't find himself bristling at the attitude like most would, instead he grinned, snickering behind a hand at the others words when the boys face morphed slightly in dismay at his rash words.

He quite liked the others honesty. Despite his...hasty actions. This was the first time in forever that he'd been able to talk honestly like this without instantly being called rude or mean.

"Alright, truce it is." he agreed, snickers dying down. He still smiled though, offering a hand to the other boy in an actual greeting opposed to the shaky meeting they'd had so far.

"I admit, it was a bit fun. I'm Elsian."

William let a smirk of his own slip on his face. He needed to recover his image. His half worked arguments did fell a bit short but in anyway, it was quite a good argument they had. The gryffondor didn't really seem like all those other first year. He seemed more... mature, something William was more familiar with. Maturity.

The other boy snickered for a bit and William soon joined in. The awkward moment from thirty seconds ago, what had really pushed William to present a truce, just about forgotten for him. He bowed his head to try and hide it.

When the silence return and the Gryffindor agreed to the truce, William felt something spark in his chest. Maybe a rivalry or a friendship of some sort. For once, he wasn't consider rude for, maybe, acting high. He had some pride after all.

"I'm William, nice to meet you." A smirk slipped on his face, ready to start over. He grasped the hand Elsian offered firmly as if sealing a business deal of some kind. He waited a second before adding, " I also guess I shouldn't have grab you like that, it was quite stupid of me." William turned his head away at that, trying to keep his blushing face out of view and quickly retracting his hand. His gaze turned to his shoes before returning to the Gryffindor.

"Yes, it was," he agreed lips tugging into a teasing smile, "but I guess its alright since I got a good debate out of it." He let go of the others hand easily as it was tugged away but not before noticing the flush donning the Slytherins face.

Part of him wanted to bring it up, tease the other because really, the Slytherins face almost matched the color of Elsi's own house colors! Still, he wasn't that cruel.

Today at least.

Alas, he didn't think he could actually keep up in any type of witty banter for much longer. He was far too tired and while it had slightly slipped his mind between their argument Elsian really did have to get going. He didn't have much time before the holidays after all and he had no idea who was staying behind and who were going home. He had to hurry up.

"It was nice to meet you but I really do have to go now though." he admitted feeling a little bit of disappointment bubble up at the thought.

He didn't really want to go but he didn't really have that much of a choice in the matter unless he wanted to be yapped at by the others.

Stepping back he started towards the direction he'd originally been rushing own before him and the other had started to argue, feeling rather amused at how it'd been settled. "See you," he waved off, before quickly disappearing down the corridor.

He had a feeling they'd be running into each other again.
