The sun hung low in the bright blue sky, casting golden reflections over the surface of the Great Lake. A sweet breeze rolled through the grass, sending small waves through the lake and against the shore. It was a peaceful day, and the weather was cool, but Anna had a task to do, which busied her far too much for her to simply sit and enjoy the sight.
She was sitted near the water's edge, her eyes intently observing the plants growing near the shore; on her lap, rested an open, old notebook with leather cover its pages covered in messy writing of uppercase letters, which described with detail how each plant looked like, what their names were and their description. With one hand, she tapped the top of her quill, made of resplendent quetzal feather, against her cheek, and with the other hand, she was gently holding a handful of small plants near the lake. "Are those water-peppers... Or am I mistaking them with knotgrass?, the hufflepuff thought, flipping back a few pages. "Ah. Watter-peppers, then.", and she wrote their location in her notebook with uppercase letters.
Anna huffed and slumped forward, letting go of the water peppers she was holding. She enjoyed categorizing plants, but Hogwarts had many specimes Anna only ever saw in her books, which made it harder to immediately recognize them. Besides, too many of those specimes were awfully similar. She has been carefully studying the vegetation in Hogwarts for quite a while, but still hasn't managed to categorize even a fourth of the plants she saw.
The hufflepuff rolled onto her stomach and dipped her fingers into the water, sending more tiny waves to the opposite direction, and dirtying a bit her outfit with wet grass--Agrostis Canina, also known as velvety bentgrass, mind you-- and dirt.
—You don’t happen to know what plant this is, do you?
She asked the lake absent-mindedly. As a matter of fact, the lake did not respond.

Noah was out on the grounds for a walk enjoying the bright blue sky and golden rays raining down on him. He always loved being out in nature and to be honest needed a break from the castle. Despite its size, Noah felt it was getting stuffy and cramped. The same way he got at home when his parents had grounded him. He wouldn't call it claustrophobia, more so a deep urge to explore. So, he went out.

He had made his way down to the Great Lake. He had become a bit fearful of the lake having heard and read stories of the things that lived in it. He thought just being by the shallows wouldn’t hurt. Besides, he was a bit intrigued and hoped he could spot a glimpse of the giant squid or even a merperson! That was when he came across a girl with a book in her lap and a quill. He watched her for a while, she had seemed quite engrossed in her task at hand. Noah drew the conclusion that she must be drawing plants. Noah always comes to this conclusion because everyone with a quill and a notebook by plants must be drawing them, because that is what he liked to do. He made up his mind and decided he would go and ask if he could join her.

He ventured forth and cleared his throat. He leaned in “Excuse me, might I joi” as he started to ask, the stone in which his foot found purchase shifted and rolled. Noah flew forward splashing into the water face first. When he emerged and while spitting out dirt and a velvety bentgrass from his mouth he asked. “Might I join you, have you drawn this one yet? If thats what you were doing. I am really sorry if I got you or your book wet!”

Anna had been with her gaze lowered onto the water, making little waves, too distracted to even hear steps coming from behind her, when a boy suddenly showed up. He was dressed casually, and when cleared his throat, Anna finally realized his presence. She gasped and rolled away from him, at the same time he fell face-first in the water and spitted out dirt and velvety bentgrass. Before Anna could even ask him if he was okay, he proceeded to ask her if he could join her on drawing the plants.
Anna had never really thought about drawing the plants. Many were incredibly similar, so if she made a few mistakes, she'd make two plants look identical, which would mean she could no longer differentiate them. So she would always write detailed information on how they looked like, and update accordingly. Because of that, instead of beautiful, carefully made drawings of grass, her notebook was filled with uppercase scribbles of grass description. As a reflex of sorts, Anna grabbed her notebook as soon as the hufflepuff boy mentioned the possibility of getting it wet, but the water had only splashed on it enough to cause a few drops to wet part of the page Anna was writing on, but nowhere close to ruining it. As a matter of fact, Anna has had more water splashed on her arms than on her book.
—That's...
The black haired girl hugged her notebook, glad it didn't get ruined.
—You... You have bentgrass on your cheek, haha...
Unable to process this situation, his calmness after falling in the water like this, his sudden appearance and interest, such unusual things to happen... Anna laughed at the strangeness of the situation. Her voice was a bit squeaky even for her age, and her front teeth were slightly bigger than her other teeth, which made her look younger than she was. Just a moment ago, she was rather upset, but now she was laughing and hugging her slightly wet notebook, forgetting what had just happened a moment ago. Maybe this boy's sudden appearance might have just been a divine gift.

Noah only noticed the bentgrass on his cheek after it was pointed out, pulled it off and placed it gently back into the water. “Sorry, for disturbing your home little plant.” He said while trying to get himself to stand up again. He got to his feet and carefully made his way back to dry land. Taking extra care not to get the black haired girl's notebook or herself any more wet.
Noah pulled his shoes and socks off, dumping the water back into the lake. He squeezed his socks out the best he could and then laid both his socks and shoes out to dry in the sun. Next he grabbed his shirt and shorts trying to get them to not cling to his body. He took a couple steps back as he then wrung out his shirt the best he could. The sun reflecting off the beads of water in his hair. He looked back at the girl, who was now laughing. He noticed how her teeth made her look younger than she probably was, or maybe she was younger? He was new to all this Hogwarts stuff, maybe they made exceptions for younger more magically inclined students. It was then as more beads of water trailed off his outstretched arm offering a handshake that he said, “Hi, I am Noah, What's your name?”

Such a light-hearted situation kept Anna smiling, as she saw that boy gently put the little bentgrass in the water again. "What a gentle thing to do...", she thought. "I've never seen anyone else be this tender with plants!"
He looked a bit uncomfortable with all the water on him. If only Anna knew a spell to dry things... But being a first grader, she didn't know many spells yet, though she was sure that there was a spell that dried things...
Next, he asked for her name. Anna remembered clearly the very same introduction her parents taught her when she was 7, and that she's been using ever since to introduce to their fancy acquaintances back at home and to some people in Hogwarts. She carefully put her notebook on the ground, and then held out her dress and made an exquisite, flawless curtsy, not for a moment letting her smile disappear.
—My name is Anna Blackberry. I'm the daughter of Bethany Blackberry and Jacob Blackberry. I'm a hufflepuff in the first year of Hogwarts. It's nice to meet you, Noah.
She then stood up right and let go of her dress. A full introduction was always best to avoid later misunderstandings, or so her mother taught. Although that boy had only asked her name, Anna didn't really find it excessive or unusual for her to mention her parents as well, even if unasked for; after all, this was the way Anna always introduced herself. That, of course, ignoring that for 4 years she only introduced herself to fancy acquaintances of her parents and didn't talk to enough people in Hogwarts to even know what an average introduction should look like. Not that it matters much, for as long as she can keep making friends. She wondered if that "Noah" boy would be one of them.

Noah was not fully used to the wizarding world and thought of his greeting as too informal now. “Nice to meet you Anna, My parents are Ben and Sophie Wells, I am also a Hufflepuff in my first year. I am from Derby.” He said while giving a bow and trying not to be too awkward and save the situation. Noah never could read social situations properly and his focus often waned easily. He thought about how awkward he had already come off by falling face first into the lake.

“Really? I mean they are alive too and should be given some respect, right? Or maybe not?” Noah questioned out loud. He hadn't thought too hard about the flora of the wizarding world since he started here. He was never really good at gardening back home and Herbology class did not seem too interesting to him yet. “ I am still pretty new to being a wizard. Are these plants evil or mean?” Noah never knew what surprises would pop out next and genuinely thought that maybe some plants in the wizarding world were sentient and could therefore have bad intentions. “So what are you doing down here by the lake?" Noah asked Anna as he sat back down.
