Lindsey would not be urged to concede, even if it was against her better judgement to keep fighting the Gryffindors until she ended up in the Hospital Wing with her housemates. Pyxis thought it was admirable of her to keep going, but he knew she was prolonging the pain. Just like Haven, Lindsey looked like a slight shove could take her down and Pyxis expected the duel to meet its end after the next spells were cast. How am I always wrong?

The air around Lindsey flickered as she waved her wand and a shield materialized from its tip. But unlike Lea, whose shield went untouched, Lindsey had to field off another Blasting Curse. Galton was the one to cast it this time, giving Meenauh a break to focus on herself. The curse barreled towards the piste below the Hufflepuff, but before it could make contact with the wood, it slammed into her shield and faded out of existence. Meenauh and Evelynn passed on a chance to try their hand at felling Lindsey. Instead, they extended the lions’ lead on her by casting the Healing Spell. On the receiving end of both, Meenauh looked much more stable as the minutes to the end of the duel ticked down.

She gathered her remaining strength to conjure a shield. An uninspired choice—she wondered whether the Gryffindors would be astonished that her supposedly aggressive “last dance” turned out to be mere defensive magic. The outcome proved equally tedious. No ricochets, no piercing through—as the blasting curse Galton cast dissipated, Lindsey knew that the duel was similarly drawing to a close.

“I forfeit.” She lowered her wand. Clinging stubbornly to the naïve notion of fighting until the last minute was foolish. This was in fact the very first time that she ever forfeited during a duel, but at this point Lindsey felt herself perfectly calm. She had already had one last attempt, and it was self-righteous to keep everybody with her.

Lea and Haven would probably understand. “Thank you.” She offered her opponents as well as the moderator a weak smile. “That was a really good match.” Exhaustion weighted her down. All she wanted now was to tuck herself in bed and let a sound sleep heal the pain.

Meenauh internally gasped to Lindsey's subtle motivation to continue. But she couldn't really understand it.

Meenauh chose to just shuffle her wand around and patch herself up, so did Evelynn, who Meenauh kindly bowed to. She always liked the girl.

As Lindsey put up a shield, Meenauh frowned. They could've ended it naturally, but a shield meant the spells could be reflected and might even ricochet back at them. And with what she heard from Galton, she almost opened her mouth to scream a 'no', but there was no need as the spell instantly dissipated.

Meenauh wanted to speak up again, but Lindsey was first to pronounce it. Meenauh made a soft bow of her head towards Lindsey, as if approving of the choice. Indeed, one should be able to lose while standing on their feet.

"Thank you as well, Lindsey, you fought well!" she told her before going off the piste. Hopefully they'll be able to have a couple of butterbeers with Galton and Evelynn soon to celebrate the victory after the shameful defeat in the first duel.

A sigh of relief would leave Galton as Lindsey forfeited. There was little sport in what they would have had to do if the duel continued. There was little sport in what Galton had just done. He was glad it had simply dissipated - the most peaceful of all options. He'd been ready to finish this; show Lindsey the respect she deserved. Pulling the punch would have been unsportsmanlike.

But now it was over. "Thanks for the duel -" he would pause for a second as he turned to his partners "To you two too." The trio had secured their first win for the year and it had stirred quite the appetite. Now it was time to secure their first lunch for the day. "We should go get lunch now... " He would trail off as he began thinking of his dream victory meal.

Final Round

With only a few short minutes left on the clock, there was no way that Lindsey could pull off a win, but Pyxis was interested in seeing how long she could field off her opponents’ spells for. The Hufflepuff was one hit away from a date with the Hospital Wing, but it seemed like she wasn’t about to give up. The referee was unsure if that was more stupid or admirable, but he knew it was definitely both.

Self-preservation won out in the end though, as Lindsey lowered her wand and announced her forfeit with grace. The lions seemed relived - perhaps not as much as their moderator - that they would not have to decimate someone who was clearly on their last legs. Pyxis knew a few people in second year who would jump at the chance to get a clean sweep, so he assigned the trait to the maturity of the seventh and sixth years. The end of the duel was handled with such class before Pyxis could even get a word out and he found himself thinking that the other four people on the piste were wonderful role models.

“That’s it, then,” he told the crowd. “Hufflepuff has forfeited which means that the Regal Roars have taken the win! Congratulations you three.” His ears perked up as Galton and Evelynn spoke about lunch on their departure. The Slytherin wondered if he should also make his way to the Great Hall, but he thought better of it, knowing that his duel was coming up in the next hour and he would be more likely to spew if his stomach was full.
