Owls, Letters, and Unspoken Thoughts

Clarke stepped the many stairs to get to the Owlery. She smelled straw, fecal matter and decaying mice. She heard the fluttering of many wings. She knew what she wanted to do though so she ignored the smell and walked to one of the school owls. She had no owl of her own yet. She had really wanted one when they were in Diagon Alley but Tripp told her she didn't need to waste her money when she could just use a school owl. Maybe next year she would get one, she thought. Tripp was kind of annoying that way, but she also knew that he was just looking out for her. She didn't want to waste her money, either.
She had written a letter to her parents and was just about ready to send it. She choose a small brown owl. Even though he was small, he was good for sending owls. She had used him before and she had grown fond of him. She named him Elf.
Clarke was writing to her parents about the people she had met and the places she'd been in the castle. She didn't include that she had met Felix because she didn't want them thinking that she liked him beyond them being friends. She knew how her parents were. Well, somewhat. Her parents had always been busy with work so they hired a nanny during the school year and Tripp babysat her in the summer. Clarke's parents had tried to spend time with her but it was only half-heartedly. They were always keyed in to what happened at work even if they weren't at work.
Clarke tied the letter to Elf's leg and patted him on the head. "You be a good boy and give this letter to my family, ok? I'll have some treats for when you get back." Then she sent him out the window and he flew off in the direction of Dublin. Clarke stood at one of the many windows for a moment. It was just turning to dusk and the sky was a beautiful painting full of colours. She loved this part of the day and didn't want to leave. But she had to and she knew that she would be back the next day to receive a reply from her parents.

Owls, Letters, and Unspoken Thoughts
Interacting with: @Clarke Remmington
The leading steps to the Owlery brought Charles Azure familiar feelings of excitement and investigation. The smells of straw combined with bird wings surrounded him in an atmosphere that he had learned to appreciate at Hogwarts throughout his academic years. The letter he wanted to send home was carefully stored inside his pocket.
He proceeded quietly towards the brown owl sitting by his side. The owl stood apart from its counterparts yet its mature understanding made it an ideal messenger because of its small size. Charles had witnessed this particular owl in service previously so he believed it would effectively carry out the delivery.
The student carefully petted the owl when he got near it. His words had a reassuring tone as he took the letter to create a careful roll. He tightly fastened the letter to the owl’s leg while softly speaking positive words. The delivery of this letter to my family will earn you a special reward after your return.
He pushed the owl gently through the window opening and watched it glide into the beautiful colors of dusk sky. During dusk Charles felt completely absorbed by the landscape while everything around him looked renewed by the sunset colors. Such instances became special to him because they offered relief from school work and societal demands.
While making his departure he spotted someone situated by the window whose outline stood out from the painted sky. He paused to watch her because she seemed entranced by her thoughts as the breeze tugged at her hair. His attention was drawn to her peaceful essence when he saw her.
“Hey there,” he called out, stepping closer. He made sure to keep his voice light. “Beautiful view, isn’t it? You can see the whole grounds from here.”

Clarke didn't know how long she had been standing by the open window. It was very peaceful though. It made Clarke think back on everything that had happened since she got the letter of acceptance into Hogwarts. She had made a few friends and already some had left her hanging. By no means had she learned about most of the secret passages in the castle but she had found a few. And most importantly, well, as the teachers would say, she had already learned a lot from her classes.
“Hey there,” someone called out. “Beautiful view, isn’t it? You can see the whole grounds from here.”
Clarke was startled. She hadn't known anyone else was in the tower with her. She turned around. In the dimly lit tower, she could see that, standing a few feet away, was a boy about her age. She had seen him around the castle a few times and in the dormitory as well, but she didn't know his name.
Clarke walked closer to the boy to see him better. "It really is. I especially like watching the sunset colours along the horizon. It changes every day. Do you come here often? I just came to send a letter to my family. I hadn't send an owl in a while so I thought it was time to send one."

A subtle feeling of exhilaration binded Charles within. To him this was a great moment to socialise after the arduous hours of study. Charles also had a hectic social life which meant that he would spend a lot of his times with his friends in eateries or playing sports.
"Me neither, I cam here to send an owl as well," he conveyed in a lethargic voice. "However, it is quite refreshing to come all the way up here for peace and quiet, especially because of the mass amount of study I find myself doing. Or I go out with my friends, so not a lot of solitude"
He gazed into the horizon in complete accordance. The sunset colours never go old, every visit seems to have in store a separate canvas, making it more magical.
"It's one of the places where I can just think without all the noise of classes and common rooms," Charles expressed calmly.
A moment of silence captured the scene, as the earth completed its revolution. "Looks like the sun has completed its duty for today!."
"Oh sorry, I am Charles, Charles Azure. May I know yours?"

Clarke smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Charles. I'm Clarke Remmington. I find myself doing a lot of homework as well. It's almost like the teachers think we aren't doing enough so they pile it on. I don't know. Maybe something good can come out of it in the end. What is your favourite class right now? Mine is Transfiguration. But that's probably a common choice. It's just so cool to learn all the different spells that there are. I have learned the Repairing Charm already and I use it to fix things of mine that break."
Clarke found that Charles thought much like she did. They had both come up here to get away from the noise of the rest of the castle and they both loved watching the sunset. It was nice to find like-minded students in the castle. Every student at Hogwarts had a very different personality from the next and it was interesting to notice what they were like. That's one thing Clarke did. She was a people watcher. She watched what students did and how they reacted to things and that reflected their personalities. Clarke thought it very intriguing. As Clarke and Charles talked, she tried to figure out his personality. It was obvious that he was outgoing and friendly. He wasn't afraid to start conversations with total strangers, but Clarke found it hard to do that sometimes.

"Oh Clarke, nice to meet you!" Charles compelled by the mention of subjects delivered his own thoughts. "Yes, you are right, Transfiguration is a common one but it is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating subjects at Hogwarts. Also similarly, we were taught the Reparo and Dancing Feet Charms and without any surprise mastered both of them." His competitive nature interjected his comments, as he quickly realised and subtly bit his side cheek. Reminding himself about the talk with his mother:Always be open to great wizards and witches, it is not just the Azure family, we have earned it just like many others scattered around the globe.
Treading cautiously he expressed the subjects that encapsulate him the most. "Defence Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration really seems like the pathway to follow, even though I feel pretty comfortable with all the other subjects. These two in particular are great ones to learn in-depth about exchanges with unforeseen magic and a road to noble aspirations and adventures."
Charles enjoyed that he found a companion who listens attentively and does not get overwhelmed by the fact of a stranger approaching her. This made Charles wonder. "So tell me, Clarke, have you built a social circle here yet or still adapting?"

Clarke noticed that Charles regretted saying that he had mastered both of the spells he learned. It was thoughtful of him to not want to brag and make others feel like they weren't as good as him. It was good to be aware of things not to say that may cause some hurt to others.
"So tell me, Clarke, have you built a social circle here yet or still adapting?" Charles said after a moment. He looked interested in what she had to say.
Had she built a social circle yet? Not really. There was just Felix. Clarke and Lex had met but never followed up on their first conversation. Then there was Denise. She was really nice, but she already had her own friend group and Clarke didn't want to invade if she wasn't welcome.
"Do you know Felix Smith? I met him after the sorting ceremony the first night we got here. He's really nice. We were going to go flying on Saturday. Would you want to come? You can meet him, if you haven't already. Felix is the only friend I have here so far, and now maybe you too?" Clarke replied. Would Charles really want to be friends with her and not just acquaintances? Clarke could only wait for his answer.

Charles looked dead into her eyes, not in a threatening manner but with a countenance of curiosity. Charles respected her thoughtful nature, these types of peers were hard to come by. He immediately gained consciousness as she finally constructed a reply. Her eyes, dark brown and tinted with a stark contrast with her light skin.
Charles's eyes widened, as Clarke enlightened him with a new accomplice in his freshman year at Hogwarts. "I think I have seen him around before, but never really communicated with him at all. Felix sounds like a great and likeable individual.""Do you know Felix Smith? I met him after the sorting ceremony the first night we got here. He's nice. We were going to go flying on Saturday. Charles grabbed the opportunity to join the group through Clarke's invitation. "I would love to come, especially because flying is one of my favourite leisure that I like to indulge in. Would be great to have a change for once from all the commotion and my vivacious friends!" Charles gave a slight chuckle."
Charles with a charming demeanour looked into Clarke's eyes. "And of course, I would love to be friends if you are ok with it." Charles smiled warmly.

Clarke was really excited for Felix and Charles to meet on Saturday and go flying. Charles could meet Felix personally and both Clarke and Felix could learn a few tricks from Charles. Considering that Clarke could barely fly, Charles might have to deal with a lot. But Clarke was a fast learner, so she didn't think it would be too bad.
"And of course, I would love to be friends if you are ok with it," Charles said in reply to her friend request. This made Clarke really happy. Clarke looked out the window, thinking of something to say next. Then she noticed that the sun was almost all the way gone. Shoot, Clarke thought. She needed to head to bed soon. She had yet to do a little homework as well. She wanted to stay here and talk with Charles some more but she knew that it would be best if she got some sleep so that she wouldn't be dragging her feet the next day.
"It's getting really late, Charles. I think I should go to bed now. It was really fun meeting you. Remember: Saturday afternoon for flying. See you then?" Clarke said as she walked towards the stairs. Clarke could barely contain her excitement as she sped down the stairs and back up to her dormitory. A new friend!

Owls, Letters, and Unspoken Thoughts

Charles watched Clarke gaze at the sun but soon recognised that it was almost pitch dark. Guess another day had come to a close, as Charles reminisced over the successful encounter with a new friend. The flickering light emitted a dim overcast between the two; a moment of silence weaved into the atmosphere.
Charles looked at her casually, trying to predict if this was a farewell, as Clarke broke the silence."Yes definitely, I feel a little lethargic after today! Nice meeting you, and I will remember the flying session on Saturday, do not worry. See you soon!" Charles felt enthusiastic, but finding a different friend group was rather difficult."It's getting really late, Charles. I think I should go to bed now. It was really fun meeting you. Remember: Saturday afternoon for flying. See you then?" Clarke said as she walked towards the stairs."
Looks like he had a while to enjoy the solace now, considering that he had no homework after his rigorous nine-hour study session. He turned back to glare deep into the emptiness of the sky, slowly sinking into a sentimental thought. The peace felt consoling, he has not divulged in such consideration what he finds serene.
