Spectator: Gryffindor V Ravenclaw Finished

Setting up a spectator thread for interested parties that wish to watch the adjacent Quidditch Game. Remember what you say and do in this thread will not effect the Quidditch Match but they may IC see you there cheering (or booing). [Gryffindor v Ravenclaw Thread]

The inaugural game between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw was underway. It was a cool, overcast Sunday morning. The sort of morning where the skies threatens to rain but never actually does. There is a cool, pleasant breeze coming from the the southwest and if the sun would only peer out from behind the clouds, today would probably be one of those uncomfortable, unseasonably warm days.

The stadium was packed with interested spectators.  Quidditch always summoned the crowds. Students, Professors and even a few guests, mostly magical relatives of some of the players but some were also prominent wizards who can trace their education back to this Scottish magical institution.

The Quidditch Captains: Kyle DeRook of Gryffindor and Emma Hill of Ravenclaw would be making their debut.  It would be interesting to see how they fared in an actual battle between Houses. As the Quidditch players filed in, the crowd would erupt into an applause. Everyone had a team that they favored, a player that they wanted to see succeed (or fail) and if they had neither, they could still watch the crowds and derive some enjoyment from there.

With shouts of encouragement, a sprinkle of heckling the game was about to commence.
Solomon is not in this thread. Yes, I know the narrative is exactly 201 words but i am on my phone and getting everything set-up.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Today was the day of the first Gryffindor Quidditch match. Victoria had been anxiously awaiting this day ever since the first time she had heard of the sport, which honestly was a mere couple of weeks ago. As a girl that grew up around muggles, the idea of watching people flying around on broomsticks, chasing after balls, seemed like the most exciting thing in the world to her. It also seemed mad dangerous, which was exactly why she would find herself as a spectator, rather than a participant.

Always one to arrive early, the red-head found herself seated in the stands a good amount of time before the actual game was scheduled to start. No one had sat down near her yet, and she began to wish that they would and that the stands would fill up, as she was particularly cold this overcast Sunday morning. As she pulled her tiny green cardigan more tightly around her body, she was surprised to notice that it didn’t take long as all for the stands to begin to fill up. Watching the swarms of people flood in, she once again began to wonder in excitement what witnessing her first Quidditch game would be like. She had heard that there were often injuries in the matches, and she hoped that any that she might witness today wouldn’t be too horrific.

Victoria settled down in her seat and turned her attention back to the field in case there were any pregame announcements. She hoped someone would sit next to her that might be able to explain the game better to her – be it a Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.

Santario was too excited this was the first match that her best friend was in and adrenaline pumped through her veins. They had only been talking about quidditch nonstop since they met and although they were on opposing teams as long as he wasn’t against her team at the moment she would show her support for him. She was dressed in her normal Slytherin school uniform except for one very obvious detail. She had a Gryffindor scarf draped over her shoulders one that she had acquired from Kyle so that she could support him in games that weren’t against her own team. She would make her way up the stands and look around for the best place to sit. This was when she would notice a redhead sitting for the most part by herself. There was something familiar about her but San just couldn’t place it so she made her way over to her.

Finally getting closer to her it hit San where she knew her from Olphie’s bracelet making event that had happened over summer camp. “Victoria, right? May I sit here?” She asked as she looked down to the redhead with a warm smile on her face. San was in rare sights today being actively social and not her normal closed-off self. If Victoria said she could sit with her San would take the seat next to her and pull out her camera. She was determined to get some good action shots of the team in action for them. If Victoria had turned her down to sit there she would find a different spot and set up the same way. She couldn't wait to see her friends hit the field.

An antsy mess from excitement, Victoria sat in her seat, wondering how much longer she would have to wait before the game would begin. There couldn’t be too much time left, as the crowd was getting thicker and the noise was getting louder. It seemed as if the crowd were to get much louder, it would be impossible to hear anyone talk. However, as loud as the crowd was, Victoria distinctly thought she heard her name. Still not knowing a whole lot of people at Hogwarts, she wondered who it could be that was talking to her. Turning her attention back around to behind her, she saw the gorgeous raven-haired girl that she had met at Olphie’s party standing there.

“Yes! By all means,” Victoria replied, scooting to the left a bit to make more room for the girl, even though there was all the room in the world. “Was it…Santario? Have I heard people call you San?” Victoria wanted to make sure that she addressed the girl in the correct way. Looking at her outfit she smiled a bit. There was a mixture of both Gryffindor and Slytherin on the girl, and had Victoria not seen her get sorted into Slytherin, she might be confused. Well that, and she had never seen her in her house before. “Nice scarf!” she commented.

Santario offered her a smile as she sat down next to her checking the lens on her camera focusing on the goals and getting the adjustment just right for the distance that they were at. The flash would remain unattached as she would not wish to distract the players in any way, shape, or form. In fact, she had decided to make sure the place was always detached whenever she did things near people on flying brooms, especially what happened the last time, even if she did meet her best friend out of the entire situation. “That’s right, but you can call me either of them I answer to both.”

She would set the camera in her lap and look back at Victoria. “Thank you! It’s my friends I am wearing it to show my support for him. I may be on an opposing quidditch team but as long as we aren’t playing against each other I asked if I could steal his scarf to help root for them.” She grinned practically unable to contain her excitement for this game. This would be a different side of Santario than Victoria had met previously, but then again Santario was already a bit of a different person since then. “Are you excited for the game?” She asked while still keeping an eye on the entrance that Gryffindor would come in.

And as if she had some form of supernatural ability she saw the first sign of a scarlet robe. Standing up immediately her camera to her face she would get a couple of snapshots of Kyle leading the Gryffs out onto the field. She would put the strap to her camera around her neck and applaud like crazy before cupping her hands to her mouth “WOOHOO!  Go get 'em Rook! Show those langers whose boss!” The Irish in her started to show as she cheered for her friends.

Janus realized it was probably too late to find some good seats when he came into sight of the pitch. He'd followed the stream of students out of the castle because he was actually curious about Quidditch; he'd glimpsed some players whizzing in the air during the previous days but he'd never seen them play. Training and learning all the rules seemed a lot of work, but watching and mixing his voice with the cheers? That he could certainly do.

He tightened his wide Ravenclaw support scarf around his neck so that it wouldn't slip off in the walking crowd. One of the older years had been giving them away in the common room so he'd snatched one, not bothering to then keep up with the most frantic part of their support. Despite the mild breeze, the thick layer of the scarf on his skin made him start to sweat, and he raised his gaze to the sky trying to understand which way that overcast weather would turn. While he was doing that, his eyes met the golden Quidditch hoops, and he wondered at how high those goals were placed. They didn't look too big, but a football could easily pass through. They were three per side though, which he found quite curious.

He suddenly stopped short just in time before bumping into the boy in front of him; the crowd had slowed down, they had reached the stands. Once he finally had his feet on the wooden platform, he began to scan the place for empty seats. He hated to admit it, but in those cases his glasses were indispensable. There! He grinned, having spotted a vacant space not far ahead.
As he walked towards it edging past countless legs, he noticed that his seat would be next to two girls who were already talking. He quickly noted that one sported Slytherin robes and the other was a Gryffindor; he would have preferred to have some Ravens to cheer with, but the two were already chatting so he could easily ignore them if needed.

When he finally reached his empty spot, he sat down next to the Slytherin girl without a word and unwound his bronze and blue scarf, ready to use it. Looking down at the pitch, he saw that the teams were already gathering there and recognised a couple of his fellow first years alongside Captain Hill, who he'd heard about from his classmates.

As he was trying to put a name to all of the blue team's faces, he was suddenly startled by the dark-haired girl beside him shouting for some Rook guy on the pitch. Turning towards her, he saw she wore a Gryffindor scarf he somehow hadn't noticed before and she also had a camera around her neck. He hadn't expected that, a Slytherin cheering for the Lions. So that meant "langers" had been directed at his team. He huffed out a barely muffled laugh; he had no idea what the word meant but it sounded like one of those cursewords the little ones made up.

Today was the day. The first match of the year! Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw. Adrian woke up at the wake of dawn, quickly dressing herself in robes and wrapping her red and gold coloured scarf. She walked to the Quidditch pitch while munching on an apple. She hummed to herself, “I wonder who’ll win this game?” Obviously she hoped that her house would win, house pride and all that.

This was also her first time watching a real quidditch match. Sure, she played quidditch at home with her brothers, but they were only friendly matches with only two chasers on each team. It wasn’t a real match. Truthfully speaking, she is a little disappointed that she didn’t make the team, but that wouldn’t stop her from cheering for her house! She just have to work harder!

Adrian let her eyes wander around the porch while making her way up to the spectator stands. She spotted a few students sitting together, a Gryffindor, a Slytherin and a Ravenclaw. Huh, that’s almost all the houses. Shrugging, she made her way towards them and sat down next the Gryffindor girl. She noticed the Slytherin wearing a Gryffindor scarf but shook her head. None of my business anyways, she can cheer for whoever they want. “Greetings! Mind if I sit here?” She politely asked, albeit a little too cheerful but that was only because she couldn’t really contain her excitement, not that she wanted to. She nodded towards the Slytherin girl, “Cool scarf by the way.”

The girl had been so interested in the fact that Santario was wearing a Gryffindor scarf, that she had barely even noticed the camera around her neck. It seemed as if a camera were always around the Slytherin girl’s neck, as if it were just an attachment of her, like an arm or her hair. Victoria smiled a bit at this realization, always interested to see other people passionate about things.

“That’s really awesome!” she finally replied, turning the attention back to the scarf. “Even I don’t have a house scarf yet.” To be fair, the red head had left the dorms quite early this morning, so if there had been an opportunity to obtain one, she had most certainly missed it. “I am very excited about this game, however.” Just as she finished her thought, the Gryffindor players began to come out of the tunnels, and she joined Santario to cheer them on. Being from Dublin, the girl burst into laughter as her acquaintance shouted at the players about the langers they were playing. “Are you Irish?” she asked the girl, hoping that she wouldn’t distract her too much from what was going on down beneath them on the field.

As this was happening, a dark haired boy with glasses took a seat on the other side of Santario. Victoria noticed that he was wearing a Ravenclaw scarf but didn’t think too much of it. From what she had seen so far at her short time at Hogwarts, it seemed as though there was only friendly house rivalry. For the most part at least. She personally didn’t have anything against Ravenclaws and looked forward to the potential friendly banter that could take place now. Of course, with more Gryffindors here than Ravenclaws, she would have to be sure that he knew she was only joking and not take offense to anything she said. For now, she would be completely civil though. “Good luck to your team,” she spoke to him, leaning behind Santario as they stood there.

Before she knew it, another girl was on the other side of her, asking if she could join them. “Hey Adrian!” Victoria greeting her with a bright smile. She recognized the girl as her roommate at once, though they had only met once so far due to timing. “Of course, you can sit here,” she remarked, making room for the girl. She looked forward to taking this opportunity to get to know her roommate a bit better. At this point, with all of these people to talk to and a very thrilling game about to begin, Victoria was absolutely stoked.

Santario would sit back down and smile at the Ravenclaw boy who sat next to her. “Good luck to your team! Even if I am not rooting for them. I’m Santario by the way.” It was all in good sport realistically she was only rooting for Gryffindor because most of her friends were Gryffindors and two of them were on the team, Kyle and Gris. Even if they were rival teams she was going to cheer for them regardless beside it never hurt to watch how Rook planned things so that she could help her team strategize in the future. More importantly, however, she knew just how passionate her best friend was about quidditch and how excited he was for his first game as captain so she needed to make sure that she got good photos to surprise him with.

She looked back to Victoria “Kyle is a second year and he doesn’t wear scarfs so getting him to let me borrow his was simple. I may be on the Slytherin Quidditch team but I’m still going to support my best friend.” When asked if she was Irish she would nod. “Yes I am half Irish on my dad’s side. Typically when I get really excited or lose my temper it shows through because he still has a really thick accent even though we lived in England my whole life.”

When the new girl commented on her scarf she flashed a smile. “Thank you! Gotta support my friends.” She didn’t really care about the legendary Slytherin Gryffindor Rivalry. The only rivalry she cared about was on the quidditch field and a small prank war that seemed to have formed between Kyle and herself. “How is everyone today?” She asked the three around her.

Janus had been focusing on the players and he hadn't expected the others to aknowledge his presence, but the two witches both turned towards him and wished Ravenclaw luck. He himself was starting to feel the building atmosphere in the stadium around them, and he happily let it mold his mind into a buzz of blue colour and pumping veins. He had noticed the Gryffindors on the pitch start shouting at his team, and some of the adrenaline from the dodgeball game had come back; he was proud to see the players in blue had taken the high road in response.

Suddenly remembering his social duties, he half-smiled back at the girls; "I'm Janus. I think we'll-" his voice was suddenly drowned by a chant rising from a raucous group of Ravenclaw fans below them.
Image posted by the member
He recognised the chant as something that had been practised in the common room, their first year chaser (Ruth?) singing it excitedly in the days before the game. Janus wasn't one to cause racket but he had a resounding voice at his disposal; and right then, he didn't see any harm in following the chant and joining in. It had a very rhythmic, almost hip-hop melody.

"HEY HEY HO HO..." he went on for a bit, before deciding his throat had made enough of an effort. As the Ravenclaw support switched to other chants ("Blue Feathers" and "Overgrown Kittens, You're Only Overgrown Kittens" being among the most notable) Janus noticed for the first time that another Gryffindor had joined them. He remembered having faced her in the dodgeball game, but that was the past. Right now, quidditch was about to start and he had no clue of the rules. He was probably going to guess them on his own, but he tuned back into the girls' conversation just in case they started talking about how the game was played.
