The world was still, and the air was heavy. The dense clouds painted the world a dull grey threatening a down pour on the horizon. A few trees lining the boundary of the castle grounds and the forbidden forest had already started turning a variety of orange and yellows, and although autumn hadn’t fully swept the summer away, a slight chill hung in the air. None of these factors stopped Oliver from finding himself retreating towards the Quidditch Pitch.

He had heard some of the older students talking about a practice pitch nearby, and with the hectic first week of school he needed to reset himself. Growing up around the sport, it was no wonder Oliver used it as a means of therapeutic stress relief. His first week of school was mostly spent wondering the corridors like a lost puppy. The professors weren’t to pleased with how often Oliver found himself stumbling into class a little behind schedule, but hey he was trying and the castle was gigantic maze.

Oliver donned a yellow Hufflepuff sweater with a pair of black well-fit jeans. It was refreshing to get out of the school robes every chance he got. Tucked underneath his armpit was a just incase poncho (an annoying habit he picked up from his mother) and clinched tightly in his right hand was his school issued broom. Although his mother was a professional Quidditch player, she didn’t allow Oliver to have the best of the best. “The difference in skill should be with the player, not the broom.” She would always preach.

Three towering bronze post sticking out of the grounds lured Oliver to his destitution. Dropping his belongings to the earth, Oliver stared up at the sky trying to judge how long he had. Taking in a deep breath, he allowed the cool crisp air to fill his lungs as he just took in the moment before lift off. This was the most relaxed he felt all week. “Up,” He said with a firm voice as he held his hand above his broom. For a moment the broom just sort of rolled around as if trying everything it can to disobey the order, but on a second try the broom zapped right up into Oliver’s hand.

A confident smile painted across the first years face as he threw his left leg over the broom, and soon enough the confident smile became a carefree one as the boy kicked off the ground. The wind smacked him in face as defied gravity on a broomstick doing barrel rolls, and dodging make believe Bludgers. In his mind he could hear the crowd chanting all around him, as he pretended to be in the middle of a match.

In the distance Oliver could make out a silhouette on the ground approaching. Unsure if first years were even allowed to fly so freely on grounds, Oliver lowered the broom until his feet were back on the ground. The boy decided to wait it out a few to see if the person would approach, and yell at him, or maybe even join him?

Annie hummed to herself rather merrily as she made her way down towards the Quidditch Pitch. She had recently noticed sign-ups for the next school year for the Hufflepuff team and decided to try out. The wizarding side of her family, her mom, was never very interested in Quidditch or brooms unless it was making an O in her Flying Class.

Annie bit her lip to hold back a grin at her mom's decisions. She on the other hand loved the idea of flying. It took some skill and patience at first but it could be very thrilling, especially when play Quiddich. She realized that she had made it to the Pitch and noticed a figure hover on a broom before landing on the field a ways away from her.

The girl stopped in her tracks and from her placement could tell that the person was a semi-shorter boy and he had a school broom in his hands. She slowly approached him and noticed his Hufflepuff scarf. Annie reached out her hand to the boy's. Annie Morgan, Second year. I have never seen you around before, are you apart of the team?" She mentally face palmed for asking that question but shook it off. "Ah, I'm sorry if I'm interrupting your practice time, I was just going to do a few laps myself you know, if I make it on the team I'll have have to practice no matter the weather." At this point Annie took notice to how cold it was. She was stupid for not grabbing her scarf or gloves as she merely stood awkwardly in a golden colored sweater and black pants.

Instant relief flushed through the young badger as he noticed the figure walking towards him wasn’t a known prefect or professor. The relief he felt shifted into butterflies the moment he noticed the approaching female was headed right towards him. First impressions were always nerve wrecking for the boy who usually came off as shy at first. The girl on the other hand, was the opposite it seemed as she introduced herself with no hesitation.

Taken back a bit before he remembered his manors the boy finally chirped “Oliver,” was all he managed to get out as he shook Annie’s hand. “Err no, I’m a first year, but I did sign-up for try outs..” Oliver began but allowed his voice to trail off as he figured he might of added too much. That was until Annie herself hinted at the fact she too had signed-up. Oliver admired her dedication to the try outs, and felt more at ease as he found the similar hobby the two shared. “Feel free,” He started as shifted his attention towards the clouds threatening the sky. “I have a spare poncho too if you would like..” Oliver pointed towards his thing nearby on the ground.

“I figure rain won’t start for an hour” Oliver warned finding himself more chatty then he thought he would be. He hadn’t had a chance to discuss anything Quidditch related since arriving at Hogwarts and relished in the opportunity. “What position are you going for?” He was curious, but judging off her small frame, and barely standing a few inches taller then himself Oliver could probably assume she was either going for Seeker or Chaser.
