“You think we can play fetch with the giant squid? It’s got quite the arm. I reckon we’d make a killing if we took bets from students on how far it can throw us.” Odette says.
"Yeah, sure," Robin responds as she walks back toward the shore, "I've seen some of the things you can buy at that joke shop in Diagon Alley. I'll help if I get a cut."
Odette sits in the water for a moment like the ugliest fish known to mankind, which is saying a lot when there’s Grindylow in the lake and stares at Robin’s back in awe. Everley is the only other person her age to accept all of her chaos and weirdness. Odette always considered her muggle best friend a diamond in the rough and never believed she’d be lucky enough to make another friend who accepted her flaws and all. Most of the other kids back home only tolerated her because of what she could get for them, and they often grew annoyed or tired of her mischievousness.
Now, squeezing her pendant, charmed to bring her prosperity and opportunity, the half-blood can’t help but think that maybe her necklace isn’t as broken as she thought. After all, it brought her the fortuitous chance to meet Robin. If not for magic, how else would she have met someone willing to follow her into a lake, knowing it houses a cheeky squid and willingly plays along with her morally questionable business?
“Of course, you’d get a cut. I’d never rip off my friends. ” Odette grins as she begins following the curly-haired witch to the shore, “Well…only if they annoy me, but you seem pretty cool, so it should be fine.”
Yeah, friends sound much more fun than business partners, Odette can’t help but think. Squealing at a cool breeze brushing against her wet skin, the drenched witch jogs back to the tree with their stuff and curses the first-year curriculum for not teaching them the warming charm. Pinching a part of her soaked blouse off her skin has her scrunching her face in disgust. “I really wish I was a seer so I could have known to pack dry clothes in my bag today.”
An inner war raged in her mind on which was worse, walking back to her dorm dripping wet and freezing, or wearing her dry robes on top of her soggy ones. A shiver down her spine makes the decision for her as she quickly shoves her arms through her robes and stuffs her socks and shoes back onto her blue and water-pruned feet.
"Fancy getting something to eat?" Robin asks, putting on the last of her clothes as water drips from her curly hair onto her robe. Odette crosses her fingers hoping they don’t slip up the Ravenclaw Tower's stairs to their common room.
“I’m absolutely famished! Think the kitchen will make us grilled octopus? For some reason, I’m craving seafood.” Another breeze has Odette pulling the opening of her robes tightly closed as she shivers, “But first, clothes! Nice dry clothes.”
After throwing the strap of her bag over her shoulder, the two witches begin the trek back to the castle. Smiling as they play the questions game again, they cheer when they finally get past more than two questions, beginning to truly get to know each other.
As they pass a nearby trash can, Odette quickly throws her letter to Max away. Hogwarts feels a lot less lonely now that she’s befriended her stalker.

Who hasn't made a deal with a centuries-old entity of questionable moral standing and motives?
