Well. This certainly felt familiar.
This time last duel, Emily had woken up from a mild coma after getting absolutely, utterly annihilated during the match. She remembered being up against the Gryffindor team last time and they were as impenetrable as they came. Beginner's Luck only lasted so long before she got Triple Finish'd by all three lions, sending her promptly to the Hospital Wing.
And now she was doing this dance again.
She groaned as she sat up in one of the many hospital beds in the suite, reacquainting herself with the bedsheets and linen supporting her sore body and keeping her warm. Not that she was worried about catching a cold. Across her arms and middle, she was peppered with scorch marks, burns and bruises. Ohh. It was all coming back now... She cringed as she remembered setting herself on fire during her duel against the birdies earlier.
An even bigger kicker was the final nail in the coffin that had her carted off to the Hospital Wing this time.
She had tried to knock the last birdie out, only to knock herself out. Completely. Right when the match was ending too! The team won with her rear kicked and knocked out cold on the piste!
"UGH!" Emily fell back against the pillow with a harsh flop, the entire bed shaking from her weight. Last match was intense. This match was embarrassing! All because her wand decided to be a nasty piece of work.
She earned a win alongside her teammates at the expense of her own dignity. She went to bury herself under the blankets before something caught her eye on the bedside table. Sitting there was a chocolate frog.
Emily couldn't see any note or indication of who left it. Or maybe they did and it fell onto the floor somewhere... Not that Emily was in any real energetic state to go look. But if it was left at Emily's side then...
She tore into it and munched fumingly. Today started off great, only for her match to end in a pathetic anti-climax. She knew she was being a bit too critical of herself. Magic could be successful. Magic could fail. Spells could land. Some might miss. You win some. You lose--
"Hmph!"
She flopped back against the bed again. She was meant to be an All-Star at Charms. A novice duellist by this point.
Right now nothing was sweeter that wanting some dignity back. She'd be missing that when she finally swallowed the last of the sweet tasting chocolate frog.

✽Avery was worried, yet she was still excited. Hufflepuff had won! They had crushed the Ravenclaws. Though, crushing them came with a cost, and that cost wasn't cheap. It wasn't cheap at all. Avery had watched her friend, Em, get help going to the Hospital Wing. After a short celebration with Colin, Avery had left the dueling competition to check on her. She didn't look like she felt great, so Avery wanted to make sure she was going to be okay.
Avery had never dueled before, but she had always wanted to. Though, after seeing the match that day, she had decided that she would stick to Quidditch. She would have no chance of survival in a real dueling competition. The times she had spent competing for fun without magic against Dylan hadn't helped her in any way get better at dueling. Especially since she had never experienced a real duel with magic that could actually hurt her.
Avery had finally walked into the Hospital Wing. Avery then began to scan the room. Searching for her Huffle friend. Finally, after scanning the room, she spotted her. Her friend seemed to have just finished something chocolate since she could see a small amount of it still left on her fingers. Avery walked over carefully. Testing the mood to see if Emily would appreciate her company, or just wanted to be alone.
"Hi. How are you feeling? That duel looked pretty rough." Avery asked her friend. ✽

As soon as Colin could, he had dashed up to hospital to check on Emily! He went up with Avery, after a brief celebration in the duelling club. Emily was still zonked when he left a chocofrog on the bedside table. There was only one chair, so leaving Avery with Emmi, he went off to fetch another one.
Magic was so much fun! He'd levitated the chair a bit and was nudging it along in front of him. He saw that Emmi was now awake and munching the frog. Colin smiled. He was so happy that Emily was awake! Avery was already asking how she was feeling, so Colin set the chair down, stepped up on to it and then crouched down. After a few moments, he slid one bare foot off the edge and then other, before draping his long skinny body over the arched wooden back of the chair.
He observed Emmi closely. A couple scuffs and burns. Nothing a veteran duelist wouldn't have scores of! He focused on her eyes. Those almost golden hazel Eyes of Sky. Colin smiled again. "You were brilliant Em! Wasn't she, Av?" he asked. "I mean! You lot totally destroyed the birbs! Like! Crispy fried Ravenclaws!" He laughed softly. "I hope you heard! Me and Aves were cheering for you and everything!"
Sure, Emmi had managed to set herself on fire, but to Colin's way of thinking, that was just part of magic. Sometimes it worked really well, and --- well --- sometimes you set yourself on fire! Colin rummaged around in his enchanted satchel. He pulled out some chocolate frogs. He passed one to Avery. "Want another one, Em? I see you already devoured the first one! Whoa. Honestly. Choco really hits the spot. I always carry some choco with me. You know. For ---" Colin lowered his voice. "---monthly emergencies! And any time when the magic doesn't seem to be working just right! A little bit of practice and some choco is all you need!"

@Colin McCoire and @Avery Gray
While Emily was stewing in her slump, a familiar yet friendly soul came up to her. It was the cutie patootie First Year in Gryffindor. Ah, no wait-- Avery. Yes, even when she was a little sweetheart, the lion did have a name. Emily sat up in a more proper manner as she closed the gap to meet her side.
Avery asked how she was feeling, to which Emily huffed out a tired laugh. She didn't really know what to say aside from the head-grinding wave of embarrassment. "I've been better," she settled with, reassuring her by flashing a sincere smile, even if the burns and bruises decorating her form didn't quite look like they represented that statement."After a good lathering of medicinal paste, I'll be good to go again."
And speaking of medicine--
Hurricane Colin zoomed into the room, grabbed a chair and perched on it like a vulture right beside her. With no questions asked. Emily blinked, perplexed as his green eyes roamed her, no doubt taking in the multitude of injuries she sustained from quite almost literally blowing herself up on more than one occasion during that duel. Must be a healing intern's instinct.
Showers of praise flew out of his mouth. Emily scoffed and plopped back against the head of the bed. "I could've done better if my wand could just do what it's told. And I heard you loud and clear in the crowd, Colin... Next time I light myself on fire, I'll make sure to knock into the other team and pass it on!".
Sarcasm trailed off the end of her response before she hid under the blanket. Magic was so, so, so unreliable in desperate times! Any they say Muggle ways hate convenience! Getting set on fire was painful... And awkward... All because magic was overrated.
She heard rustling from outside the covers and Colin's voice perked up again amidst her muffled hearing.
"Want another one, Em? I see you already devoured the first one!"
She peered over the edge and looked at him. Hm. So it was Colin who left the choccie at her bedside. And he was right. Chocolate was the bees knees for everything. She tentatively took another one from him and nibbled, half her face still hidden from where she hid under the blanket.
"I flunked my practice duel... And I've sacrificed nights to get my spells to work right. I don't know when I started going downhill like this. I'm meant to be smart. I'm meant to be good at this..."
She was speaking rhetorically, but at the back of her mind she knew why. Something she wouldn't say here. Not now.
Instead, she picked at her chocolate frog. Colin then said something she found quite funny. There was something about him that brought an air of humour to the room when it was called for.
"Monthly emergencies, eh? What, like boy-related stuff...?" she joked lightly.

✽Avery smiled and nodded. She understood the feeling of a little healing paste. It always felt amazing after a painful fall or hit. "That's good." Avery told the girl. Suddenly, Colin bolted into the room. He pulled up a chair and crouched on it. Avery smiled and tried not to laugh as she remembered the last time she had seen Colin perch on a chair like that. She was in the Hospital Wing and getting her leg healed when he had done that.
Avery smiled and nodded. "I agree with Colin. You were amazing out there! You crushed the Ravenclaws!"
Avery gratefully accepted the chocolate frog Colin offered her. Munching on it slowly, so she wouldn't waste a single bite. The rich chocolaty flavor bursting through her mouth. She held in her sigh. Knowing know wasn't the best time to do that. She was here to see Emily and give her some company as she recovered from the duel.
"It's okay, Em. Everybody has their days when they're off. You'll get back on your game soon! Maybe a little rest here will help!" Avery smiled. Knowing there was probably something more, but not wanting to push. She understood the idea of holding in things you didn't want to come into the light. Avery was holding in many secrets about her past herself that she wasn't ready to share yet, but she would someday. ✽
