Who Made You The King of Magic?
Willow leaned against the wall a few meters outside of the doors to the Great Hall. Many students were going in and out of it as it was around lunch time. Today Willow decided to read a book of Wiccan spells from home as she was missing the familiarity and confidence from the ones she knew from home. She had an apple in one hand, half eaten and the open book poised in the other.
She grew up practicing Wicca in her family. Much to their surprise when she got the Hogwarts letter that there was a different type of magic that Willow would soon be on the journey to learn. Her parents were ecstatic about this, but Willow was apprehensive. Either she was about to go to a school knowing everything about magic, or nothing at all. Surprise, surprise... she knows nothing. She had been quite overwhelmed in her classes having to rewire her brain for all things magic, but she refused to loose touch with her roots. There was validity in what kind of magic she grew up in, it worked for her and her family in bringing them happiness, and general gifts and appreciation for the Earth. Sadly, she hadn't found any other muggles in the school that had the same experience as her, but she was determined to stay connected to these two worlds, and find how they intermingled.

Who Made You The King of Magic?
[quote]
He'd just finished a quick bite, rather eager to flee from the one sided conversation that boy at his table had forcibly dragged him into. Masquerades? Dancing? He couldn't say he shared some one his house mates enthusiasm for the upcoming celebration as it sounded like another one of those boring social events he'd gone through back home.
Escaping through the doors he noticed a girl, the Hufflepuff who, he was quite positive he'd actually seen before when he got here. She was reading the same book and he wondered just what was so interesting that she wouldn't read somewhere more comfortable.
"Isn't it uncomfortable reading there?" he asked, brow raised as he paused in his quick pace, "you've been there for some time, why not read where it's more..." he raised a robed arm, gesturing to the area,"...comfortable I guess."
After more than a simple glance he was able to read the title. Something about spells but he'd never seen a spell book like that one before. Was it something for a higher grade or..?
He gave the book a curious look, "are you reading about spells for a higher grade or something? I've never seen a spell book like that one in any of the shops or the library." he noted turning his gaze back to the girls with a questioning look.

Every now and again she glanced up at people walking by, scanning for those she knew. She occasionally raised her apple in acknowledgment to a Hufflepuff she recognized. This time when she looked up a Gryffindor was approaching her directly. "Isn't it uncomfortable reading there?" She stood up off the wall to talk to him so she wasn't leaning, it was impolite after all. "I'm tired of sitting down in classes and during meals, so I've actually taken to standing when I read. It's actually quite comfortable and gives me a chance to stretch out. Besides, it's too noisy to read in there!" She took another bite of her apple, stretching out her arms from her reading position before letting them fall to her side. "I've never seen a spell book like that one in any of the shops or the library." She held her book back up, closing it and turning the cover more directly to his face. "This one? Have you never heard of Wicca? It's sort of a muggle magic I guess. We do a magic of our own! I would've had no idea that there was this kind of magic if it wasn't for Hogwarts. I'm very lucky. This is a book from my own collection from home. I read it when I'm missing home, since this magic is a lot different than the kind I know. It would be cool if you could study muggle magics as an extracurricular!" Her smile beamed with pride talking about where she came from, she could be extremely boastful when it came to her family. "I'm Willow by the way!" She tucked the book under her other arm and held it out for a proper shake.

@Willow Anderson"Wicca?" He questioned looking slightly confused as his gaze trailed over the book before eyes lit up in recognition. He listened intently as she spoke growing more and more sure that she was pulling his leg, "Oh! You mean the fake magic."
Seeing the girl stick out a hand in greeting he quickly grabbed onto it,"Elsian, it's a pleasure," he replied shaking her hand before continuing, "you almost had me there for a moment," he admitted, "about the muggle magic that is," smiling slightly as he confessed, "I'll admit, the whole lore is quite amusing. I've heard a few stories about wiccan magic, the whole candles, tools and sacred circle thing."
He shifted eyeing the doorway when he heard a loud crash and he distantly wondered if it was someone from his table and if they'd get points taken for it before looking at Willow again. Shrugging when laughter could be heard along side groans from within.
"I wonder just how many muggleborn didn't know about their power until using that type of 'magic'. Might be where it all started, and why muggles believe it's all real." he huffed a small laugh, "well, not like it matters."
Eyeing the hallway he gave the other a small warning, "you might want to be careful with who you try to fool though. Some might actually try bully you for it if they think you're being serious."

Willow's face quickly fell as he called it 'fake magic'. She crossed her arms after he shook her hand, waiting to see what he would say about Wicca. She often dealt with this in school too, as her town was a largely Christian population. Being the odd one out due to this wasn't a big deal for her, except she'd never competed against a different magic for its defense. She scoffed at his final warning; "You might want to be careful with who you try to fool though. Some might actually try bully you for it if they think you're being serious."
She looked around, finding a receptacle for her apple, she walked over to it, dropped it in, and walked back with a bit of sass in her steps. "You must be my first fool then. This isn't a fake magic, it is just a different type of magic. When I said I would've never learned about it without Hogwarts, I was talking about wand magic the stuff we learn in class." She looked at her book with a softness returning in her eyes, before glaring back at him waving it in his face. "This book of spells is just as real as any other magic learned here. Yes, I found my magic preparing a fire for a potion my family and I were brewing, but I didn't even notice it until later I got my letter just as well as you did and realized that is what had happened, this type of magic. Hogwarts magic." She huffed, crossing her arms again, "It is real, and just because I'm learning a new type of magic doesn't make my other practice any less real to me." She ended her rant with a stamp of her foot, and a couple of deep breaths as she hadn't really breathed a lot during her rant.

@Willow AndersonBaffled he watched as she went on a rant, taking a step back when she literally waved it in his face as if that would make him believe it any more! If anything it just made her look insane!
Trying to follow her logic behind , his face twisted into one of confusion because he couldn't actually find an ounce of proof in her statement. Though he fought back a smug grin when she mentioned that she had indeed found her magic preparing a fake potion.
"Wouldn't that just mean it worked because your family has magic in their blood? It sounds like you could have been using your magic for your wicca potions and wouldn't that just mean that, well..." he frowned, not sure if he should finish his statement with how she'd reacted. She'd stomped her foot like a child after all! "Not to sound horrible but, it sounds to me like your bloodline could easily have been the reason any of that wicca craft worked."
"Besides! If those spells are real then wouldn't the department of education acknowledge it? There's a reason we can't use magic in front of muggles after all but if any muggle can use magic like wicca then we wouldn't need to hide," he reasoned.
"Also, waving a book in my face really didn't help your argument..." he admitted, looking slightly disturbed at the behavior. "Please don't do that again."

Her face had flashes of confusion and some frustration, as some points he was making made sense but she was too proud to admit that he was right. "First off, you don't even deserve to get this waved in your face if you really disbelieve Wiccan practice that much." She took a deep breath, closing her eyes and recentering herself if she was going to win this battle.
"Wiccan practices are not just about spells either. It's about your relationship to nature, the seasons. The Earth is so alive to its very core, and that connection is something so beautiful and unique that people who don't practice can't fathom getting to. Besides, most muggle holidays are based off of Pagan holidays which has a lot of crossing in Wiccan practices. We're acknowledged out there in secret sort of ways..." She was losing her train of thought in the original point of proving that Wicca spells are just as real, she pushed her hair behind her ears as she was fiddling to try and concentrate.
"You... uh.. purebloods! That's what you're called." She was still deep in learning wizarding world terms for different backgrounds, "You're just obsessed with instant gratification which is what you get from this type of magic. I guess it's not just purebloods, wizards in general. Besides, this practice of Wicca, at least with my family, doesn't hurt anyone. So why are you so adamant in denouncing it?"

Who Made You The King of Magic?
@Willow AndersonHe'd tried to listen. Really listen to what she was saying. He liked the idea but the fact remained he was...not hearing anything that really proved it.
The fact was, he'd started to feel irritation brewing beneath his skin when it became obvious that she wasn't even bothering to acknowledge his points! The feeling only grew when she went off on info that didn't even have to deal with what they were talking about. Really? Holidays?
The nature bit was a whole other story too.
Connection to the Earth? Relationships with the seasons and nature around you?
He frowned, fingers twitching to grab the loose string attached when he felt like he was about to say something. Biting back the comment until she was at least done talking but honestly!
They had classes for herbology and those types of subjects and she was talking about wicca practice as if it was entirely different. Which, from what he could tell, wasn't.
Watching her pause he took the moment to voice his own thoughts, taking the silence as her being done. "But Hogwarts has those types of lessons," he pointed out, "Astronomy, herbology, and care for magical animals..." he frowned, "it's just...those lessons easily gross over what you're talking about.." he replied
He was...well, amazed that she went there when she continued. Instant gratification? Denouncing it?
"Denouncing it?" he echoed, "I wasn't denouncing it. I was asking questions and stating facts." he replied, voice tinted with disbelief.
Disbelief quickly turned to anger as he turned a small glare at her, " Just because I disagree... just because I want to ask questions and debate a bit..." he huffed out a small bitter laugh, shaking his head. What, did she want him to blindly accept her reasoning without any evidence?
He'd heard his parents talk about how muggle born badly. Been told multiple times that they were more trouble than they were worth but he'd hadn't believed it. He'd thought that...yes they were different but not like this. He also couldn't believe she'd brought him being a pure blood into this.
What did that matter? What type of argument was that even?
"Sorry for having an opinion I guess." he turned away, "wonderful talking to you," the words were plain, fake. With a type of finality to them as he began to walk down the hall.
He paused however, eyes cold as he looked in her direction, "next time, how about simply saying you respectfully disagree alright? Pure Bloods like me might not realize we're denouncing your beliefs with our questions." he continued on, ignoring whatever she said after that. Why should he listen when she hadn't?
He wouldn't be surprised if she had a few new enemies with her dramatics by the end of the day.

Who Made You The King of Magic?
Willow's blood continued to boil as he tried to hide behind his initial blatant disrespect of her beliefs of calling it 'fake magic' and 'folklore.' He wasn't getting it at all as he started to list classes that are taken in Hogwarts, "It's not about the individual classes, or lessons, it's the connection of it all!" Her foot began to tap as her anxiety and frustration manifested outward. How can you debate about people's beliefs? Especially when they don't cause harm to anyone, it doesn't make sense. None of this made sense.
Her face fell when she realized she had taken it to far with bringing in Purebloods, when she honestly knew nearly nothing about them. She realized this had gone far off the tracks in terms of having a productive conversation. Both parties too engrossed in their own opinions to listen to the other. She had conversations like this back home, sure they got heated sometimes but never like this.
On another hand, this was a bad first impression in general. She was a Hufflepuff, which were apparently the friendliest house to her knowledge and this had been the opposite of that. She tried to run after him, realizing that he had started walking away. She shouted out at him, "Meet me in the library after dinner, I promise I'll listen next time!" Even if she ended up sitting by herself for an hour in the library later, at least she could say she tried to remedy this. If anything, she'll bring some homework materials and work on that. But, she also would pack a couple of extra books in case Elsian decided to join her.
