Graci listened with rapt attention as the others conversed, intrigued once they again started talking about houses.
Marquise brought it up, saying he thought he would be in either Slytherin or Hufflepuff, an odd combination, but still conceivable. Enough cunning for Slytherin, but enough kindness for Hufflepuff. Or just an appetite for food and fame, but who knows.
Eira said she wanted to be in Ravenclaw.
"Oh here. Please take as much as you want. I don't usually eat this much sugar at home. Though I did hear there's going to be a feast when we arrive. I hope the food at Hogwarts will be good, I grew up on Mum's baking and Mitzy's cooking. She's our house-elf by the way. Do you have house elves as well?" Eira was offering some of the sweets to Marquise, that hospitable hosting part of her taking over, from what Graci could tell.
"Oh, we don't have house elves, though, my mum's a muggle so it's understandable. Your mum's baking sounds wonderful, just by the way you talk about it. What was it like anyway, having a house elf, that is?"
Graci wondered if any of them were the pompous blood purity people. She hoped not. Most of her family were magical, just not her mum and Yiayia on her mum's side.
I'm about as magical as I could be, so if they care sucks for them I guess. They should've picked a different train car.
Graci took in their motley crew, a pair of twins, a hospitable, slight girl, a curious boy, and a practically mute girl whose name was yet to be revealed.
She cut off her train of thought and turned to the girl in the corner while waiting for the answer to her question she'd asked Eira.
"Hello, I'm Graci, what's your name?" (Ooc: she's talking to the unnamed Agnes in case that last part was confusing. She's waiting for Eira to answer what it's like having house elves, too)

Agnes watched them talk about their home lives… she’d never missed a blanket more than now, she did bring one memorable “friend” from her home, but otherwise had no memorabilia apart from her frilly, ornate clothing.

She didn’t care much about the placement of houses, she wasn’t from the UK originally, and she’d be lying if she knew the details of selection and what was considered a “good” house, maybe they could clue her in? She’d eavesdropped enough at this point, it was starting to looks a lot less like “sit and look cute” and more “sit like a slug on a rock”, she was painfully aware of how boring she seemed on the outside.

How might she strike up a conversation? Do any of her fellow passengers go to tailors? Do any of them like to sew? Only one way to find out… hope for an opening. Agnès practically rolled her eyes at her own thoughts so hard it felt almost as if they’d pop out.

You could color her surprised when she got exactly what she asked for, a second chance, and a darn good one at that!

Her eyes dart to the girl before her, Graci was her name, she appeared kind enough. Agnès cleared her throat, straightening up her posture until she sat at her full height, then tucking a curl of hair behind her ear she replies.

"Agnès Odette, nice to meet you Graci, and apologies for the… eerie silence.” She dips her head while apologizing, but her eyes couldn’t help but wander to the dessert they shared amongst each other. 'Manners, Odette… you haven’t even greeted everyone in the compartment'

Eira tapped on her chin, "Well, I can't speak how it is for other wizarding families but Mitzy is the best. She makes the best cottage pie and roast lamb and she's amazing with cleaning magic; she was able to clean out the wine Mrs. Beauregarde accidentally spilled on the sitting room carpet. Did you know that house-elves didn't need to use a wand to use magic?"

Her excited tone softened some as she thought about her mum's baking "Mum usually doesn't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, she's usually over at St. Mungo's for work or making healing salves but she would make a huge batch of fruit tarts and she would sprinkle some sugar and salt on top every month as a treat. During Christmas, she would then bake a large log of Arctic roll and serve it with thick strawberry syrup."

She was about to go on a tangent on how her mum would sometimes use different fruits to have a more tart taste than the ones being sold from the bakery when the girl with curls suddenly spoke up-

"Agnès Odette, nice to meet you Graci, and apologies for the… eerie silence." She looked meek and gave the mountain of sweets and pastries a subtle look.

A grin broke on Eira's face and nodded towards the food and backtracked on something Graci had mentioned.

"You have mentioned your mum's a Muggle" she said, turning to Graci, "I haven't met anyone with a Muggle parent before! Do you have ektricity (electricity) in your home? I've seen a car before once with my dad, have you ridden in one?"

Questions began cascading from her lips before she could stop herself.

"Agnès Odette, nice to meet you Graci, and apologies for the… eerie silence."
Score, another name down. Agnes Odette, a beautiful name for a beautiful girl.
"No worries at all, care to share in the pastries? We have plenty."
Graci was now partaking in multiple conversations, but having fun with it since it was the most she'd had actual conversation with people in a while.
Eira was answering her question, speaking of how her wonderful house elf, Mitzy, made wonderful food, and how house elves could use magic without wands.
"How fascinating!"
"Mum usually doesn't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, she's usually over at St. Mungo's for work or making healing salves but she would make a huge batch of fruit tarts and she would sprinkle some sugar and salt on top every month as a treat. During Christmas, she would then bake a large log of Arctic roll and serve it with thick strawberry syrup."
"I haven't heard much of St.Mungo's, but your mother's baking sure sounds positively wonderful."
Some polite half conversation and half silence passed before Eira piped up again, "You have mentioned your mum's a Muggle. I haven't met anyone with a Muggle parent before! Do you have ektricity (electricity) in your home? I've seen a car before once with my dad, have you ridden in one?"
"Oh, yes, we do have electricity, you don't? Never mind, then. I have ridden in a car, many times, almost every day during the school year, occasionally the bus but it has a lot of annoying kids on it."
She thought back to her days before she got her letter. School with Zoe, Makayli, and Lindin. Ah, those were the days. No magic, just English and social studies. And annoyingly enough, maths and science. Graci positively hated maths and science.
She tried to zone back in a little, and she did, catching snippets so she could reply when necessary.

Ah, so the correct term is electricity.

Eira stored the information as she leaned back and nibbled on the remains of her pumpkin pasty. She looked beyond the window and saw that the scenery became less and less of the farms and urbanized communities, and more of the wilderness and mountain ranges.

It was a good change of pace, she thought. She started by herself and then met four more classmates. She wished that they would all be under one house, though she knew that it would be impossible.

She turned to look at Agnès and Marquise, hoping to know more about them as well. As much as they're willing to share, of course.

"What are the classes are you all looking forward to? I looked into one of our schoolbooks, and so far I'm keen to attend Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms. Though Tranfigurations is quite a scary one" she said with a shudder.

As soon a she saw the formula needed to successfully change a pin to a needle, she knew that she will have trouble with that class. Memorization is a vexing thing for her, she already had trouble remembering the major timeline of wixen history, to ask her to remember a full formula and execute it with magic is too much.

Still, she waited for her companions to answer as they neared their destination, based on the darkening skies.

Marquise hadn't been doing a great job at keeping up with the conversation if he was being honest but he'd caught on to the question Eira had brought up. He pondered for a bit, he liked Defense Against the Dark arts for sure. He didn't like transfiguration much, and he knwe that he'd likely pass way in the middle of History class
"Defense Against The Dark Arts and Charms as well. I'm not that interested in Transfiguration, and History of Magic sounds dreadful." His father had liked, Care of Magical creatures from what he knew, and his mother had been more of a Transfiguaration buff. He remembered his Tutor drilling into his head that all, schools of magic were important. Something Marquise found hard to believe. He highly doubted he'd need to turn a needle into a pig in his daily life, but nonetheless. He listened as his teacher made him practice wand movements with sticks. He remembered them discussing house elves, and decided he'd speak on that as well
"My family have two house elves. Milly, she's very old but very nice. And Tommy we only got him about 2 years ago so he's still a bit skittish. Thinks we'll kill him each time we raise our voices a little bit"

Eira nodded along with Marquise's words. Some of the house-elves she had come across from the houses he had visited were very jumpy. One of the elves she was truly concerned with was Belle, Mrs. Bluebottle's aging house elf.

The old bat had already banished her from her greenhouses, not that Eira particularly cared about boring plants, but she just kept piling order after order, and if there was one missed, she threatened the elf with a worn-out silk glove.

"Sounds like History of Magic is a dull subject. To be honest, I would probably have trouble with Herbology and Potions. I'm a rather poor match with plants, nearly killed half of the garden trees when I accidentally switched my mum's fruit tree solution with herbicide," she sighed.

Tugging at the ends of her hair, Eira looked out of the window again and studied the skies. It was about three or four in the afternoon. According to her parents, they would likely arrive at Hogwarts by evening. Plenty more time to talk then, should they wish.

"Oh!" she exclaimed, "I heard that clubs are being offered, any particular ones you're thinking of joining? As far as I know, the sporting clubs are considered the main attraction: Duelling, broom racing, and Quidditch. Of course, I know tons will sign up for Quidditch, though I fail to see the appeal of that sport. What I'm interested in is the duelling club!"

She had attended one of the professional duelling matches, and the adrenaline that buzzed through the whole area stayed with her until she, Anna, Emile, and his mum returned home. Learning spells, strategizing her next move, and analyzing her opponent's. Who doesn't love a good duel?

Graci winced, she knew that herbicide was BAD. And when most likely applied in bulk, hoping for it to grow and instead it dying. Oof. Graci also didn't think History Of Magic sounded boring. She LIKED history. but even more than any other class, she liked charms. She hadn't't even attended the class, but she knew she was going to love it.

Graci was just going to say something about liking charms that she would regret later when Eira saved her from any embarrassment.

"Oh!" Eira exclaimed, "I heard that clubs are being offered, any particular ones you're thinking of joining? Of course, I know tons will sign up for Quidditch, though I fail to see the appeal of that sport. What I'm interested in is the duelling club!"

"I'm not really the sporty type. I like volleyball, but I don't know a lot of spells, for duelling, I don't have a broom and am afraid of heights. So... no magic sports for me."

Graci contemplated it some more, in her head of course. All she said was true, but then again, she barely knew what Quidditch was, and that would probably be embarrassing once she got to Hogwarts. She much preferred her sports on the ground with innimate balls. Bludgers that could knock you out? No thank you.

She sighed, her people skills having been worn out for the day. "Do you mind if I get some shut-eye? I'm quite tired, had an early morning. I also never sleep well the first few nights in a new place."

She awaited an answer, thinking it would be rude to simply close her eyes and be done, but she was tired. And now that she thought about it, she felt she could just lay down and take a nap almost anywhere. "Wake me up about an hour or two before we get there?"
