The Grim
Zach looked at Alyssea who effortlessly cast the new spell to heat her tea. And the mention of heating her chocolate while she was studying during winter, Zach could just nod. Now he knew that Alyssea was also a studious type of person. Zach was also studious, but he was sometimes too focused on technical things rather than theoretical things. It was followed by a smile of shame when she mentioned that the professor already heating his tea.
Zach gave a wide smile again when Raizel gave back his wand. "Of course, of course. Let me heat your tea," he said excitedly. Zach was that boy who just really excited in casting spells. He firstly cleared his throat and prepared his wand. With a swish towards the Gryffindor's teacup, he cast, "Aqua Fervens." He looked at the teacup cautiously to see any difference. Hope he didn't do it wrong. "Your tea should be ready to drink," the boy grinned.
Zach looked at his own teacup. He wondered if there was anything he wanted to know. The thought about his future came in. Have I already done it right to take this path to get my dream back? The thought of it already made him nervous. He was already one of the healer interns in the Hospital Wings. He was also in the process of learning healing magic specifically. Could he finally get the dream in the end? Would there be other obstacles he must face in the future? These thoughts made him both excited and uncomfortable at the same time. He immediately gulped the tea in a quick, forgetting that he should take it slowly. "Whoops!" he exclaimed when he realized that he already gulped some of the tea leaves.
The boy quickly put back the teacup obe the saucer. "Oh no.... What should I do? Oh yeah!" He spun the teacup thrice clockwise, and put the saucer over the cup's mouth, flipped the cup to let the rest of the liquid drain even though no liquid could be seen on the saucer. Then he flipped it again to see the symbols, comparing it with the books. He did all that in a panic, making another scene if anyone saw him.
The next thing made his foxy eyes grow wider in terror.

Alyssea made sure to leave a little bit of liquid at the bottom of her cup before she brought it down with her left hand. Lookin at the board briefly for the next instruction, she spun it in a clockwise direction. Once, twice, and three times. All the while, she hummed and repeated her question in her head, ignoring whatever was going on between Raizel and Zach while they sorted themselves out. Now that she'd spun it, Alyssea grabbed the saucer and tipped over her cup. She squealed a bit, not wanting to spill anything on the table as she re-positioned the cup upright. Another look at the board had Alyssea turning the cup's handle to her heart and reading the symbols that had formed. She gasped at the images she was seeing. In all honestly, she didn't expect such a success. At the handle was a cross which, okay, what a way to start. There were wavy lines leading around the cup towards a table and then an acorn closer to the bottom. Alyssea hummed and began writing down her observations. The table was awfully silent. Her parents always told her that if she and her brother were dead silent, something was wrong. That was a few years ago, of course, and the family had grown to appreciate a quiet home. But in that moment, Alyssea remembered that and looked up from her notebook. "Zach?"

❂《 ⌜ September 2, 2024 ▎ Monday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔As much as it surprised her that Zach actually agreed to heat up her tea, she was thankful for that because really, she wasn’t paying that much attention. Her own fault, not Sereia of course. She was just distracted and her interest is always drifting away from spells that she finds ‘useless’ in combat situations. Now then, here comes the best part, reading what lies ahead of you. Truth be told, she’s afraid of what she will see, of how it might confirm her bad future that she knows is waiting for her. Maybe it won’t be as grim as she thinks it would be but with how things were going with her, that’s the only future she could see.
The things that they have to do for Tessomancy isn’t that complicated. You drink the tea with a question in mind, spin it with your non-dominant hand and then flip it over on top of the saucer then read whatever the tea leaves are telling you based on what symbols you see. Aside from the symbols that could be tricky to identify, there’s the fact that she doesn’t know what questions she wanted to ask about her future. Will she be successful? Or is she destined for failure just like what her grandmother had told her.
Unfortunately, that’s beyond for someone with tainted blood as hers.
Words that stung till this day, words that made her question her own skills despite how her father always praised her for it, especially when it came to her spellcasting and her learning things that are beyond her lessons. Despite the aches and the inner turmoil, her calm expression never faltered as she swirls the liquid within the cup, clearing her mind of those awful remarks from the person that she sure doesn’t want to meet nor see ever again.
Will I be strong enough to help and protect others?
It was the reason why she picked duelling, not just because she wanted the thrill of battle, not because she wanted to be a professional duellist. It was so she could gain experience, battle experience, to be a better spellcaster, to be strong enough to become an Auror like her father and to possibly aid him in the future, fight together with him, to help and to protect. Sometimes she forgets that though, that reason and could only think about proving her worth to her grandmother by becoming stronger than she is now. This is one of those rare moments that she remembers the core of her goal. After that, she did the rest of what she needed to do to complete this activity.
The only thing left is for her to read what the leaves will tell her once she turns this cup upright again. Will she interpret them right, that she doesn’t know, maybe she’ll get things wrong if it shows her something awful. But before she could even read hers, Zach’s reactions quickly which she caught a glimpse of from the corner of her eyes made her turn her head. His expression of panic, and that look of terror in his eyes. “What’s wrong with you?” she asked with a nervous chuckle. For some reason, she found herself scared of checking her own cup now.

The boy compared the symbols in his cup and the ones in the book.
A swan. A distorted one.
Zach winced when reading the meaning. Marriage? I am married soon?!With whom? I am just thirteen! He continued to trace the symbols.
A wasp.
He didn't know if it's a wasp or something else. The shape wasn't easy to see. He even squinted his eyes if it was really a wasp or something else. And the meaning of it made Zach shudder. Romantic issues… sudden separation of lovers… I am married soon and then I will get separated after that? Zach was really confused.
He kept continuing to the last symbol that made his eyes widened in terror. The Grim. A very clear symbol of a grim. He couldn't hear the call from Alyssea and Raizel. His ears suddenly went deaf. He had a hunch that it wasn't a good symbol and he was right. Death is related to this symbol.
Zach screamed. He threw his cup in reflex, making his hand accidentally punch Raizel in the end. “THE GRIM!!!” He looked at Alyssea. “I got the grim in my cup…” Zach whined.
He looked at Raizel to get any response from her. But it seemed the girl wasn't good. “Raizel?”

One second, Alyssea was staring down her own cup and figuring out the symbols from the tea leaves. The next? She watched as Zach flailed his arms around after screaming 'THE GRIM!' and punched poor Raizel in the face. The gasp that left her mouth probably had the whole class staring at them now. Her mind went through two different thought processes. The first was the fact Raizel had been punched. "Oh god, are you okay?" Alyssea asked. From what Alyssea gathered, and from the way Raizel held her jaw, nothing was broken. Her face would be sore and bruised. While being in pain wasn't exactly ideal, at least it wasn't a broken nose. The second was that Zach had seen the Grim in his cup. Now, Alyssea wasn't too familiar with the Grim (which shouldn't be a surprise since she spent most of her life in the Muggle world before Hogwarts) but she knew the Grim Reaper. Were they the same? She frowned. That wasn't in their list of symbols at all. Alyssea leaned over the table and reached for Zach's cup. "Are you sure? Is the Grim the same as like, the Grim Reaper?" Saying it out loud made her realise just how dumb she sounded. Of course it was. There's no way he's serious.

❂《 ⌜ September 2, 2024 ▎ Monday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Maybe if she had taken the time to look at her cup then maybe she could’ve seen what would happen to her next. Or maybe not as things might not turn out the way the readings on the cup had told you.
The Ravenclaw boy started acting weird after what he had seen in the cup from what she could tell and he immediately broke into a scream which surprised her and almost made her fall back on her own seat. She was about to say something but she couldn’t as the boy yelled. ‘The Grim’. The Grim? What? There was no way that he had seen such a reading on his cup… well, okay, maybe it is possible. That aside, he was panicking and as a good friend, Raizel decided to calm him down. Not to mention, he was starting a commotion with all that screaming and yelling. “Oi.” She called out but the boy didn’t hear her as he was overrun by terror.
At that time, Raizel decided to go near him and boy, she sure wishes she didn’t. As soon as she tried to calm him down, he swung his arm, throwing his cup and then pain as the motion accidentally hit her right on her jaws. Compared to spells hitting her during duelling, a physical hit on the jaw doesn’t seem to be bad but heck it still hurts. “Ow!” the Gryffindor began rubbing on where the boy just hit her before sending him a death glare as if asking ‘What’s wrong with you?!’. Clearly, there was a slight look of annoyance in those brown eyes of hers and as she is somewhat of a hot-blooded person, she probably would've grabbed him by his shirt's collar by now but he's her friend. Again, she's annoyed. Who wouldn’t after getting punched in the face? That’s gonna leave a bruise later on, that much she knows.
“I’ll be fine, I think.” She answered Alyssea’s question, wincing upon doing so. She just hopes that Zach saw something different and not exactly the Grim because that there, from what she had heard is a bad omen, an omen of death. “You probably saw something different. If you didn’t throw the cup then maybe we could’ve taken a closer look.” She followed up on what Alyssea had said before sighing and turning her head towards her cousin. “You could say that. I know that it has something to do with death.” Raizel is no Divination expert and she only skimmed through her book during her free time. Maybe she had asked that question to her father at some time for she sometimes looked at his old books.

Zach's heart dropped as he saw the annoyance and disappointment in Raizel's look. Zach had accidentally punched her. While it was accidental, he still hurt his friend. Zach felt a pang of guilt in his chest. "I'm sorry," he said with a tiny voice. "Is it hurt?" Zach asked the Gryffindor. His eyes couldn't meet her eyes. He was actually scared that what he had done might ruin the friendship.
Then he looked at Alyssea asking about the grim. "It looked like that..." he said. Zach left his chair just to take his cup again. He looked at it to show the bad sign he had gotten to his friends but nothing was shown in the cup. All the signs vanished from the reckless movement of the boy. The tea leaves were scattered in a mess. "I am really sure that it is clearly the grim..." he put the glass on the table.
He once again looked at Raizel. The bruise slowly became visible, making the guilt in his heart feel heavier. "I’m so sorry…" He said. Zach really meant it. "I– Let me fix this. I know a spell. Don't worry... I have practised it non-stop. You might feel warm at the start but you will feel relieved in the end." Zach took his wand and made a diagonal motion from left to right with his wand above Raizel’s bruise spot. "Episkey." [d20(18)+10=28(success!)] Zach looked at Raizel. His eyes were now filled with hope. “Do you still feel the pain?”

Alyssea watched as Zach effortlessly cast a healing spell. She frowned, a little envious that he knew such a spell. Sure, Alyssea had known and learnt Reparifors a long time ago, but it didn't have as broad of a use as Episkey. She would have to check the syllabus for all the courses she was taking to see where she could learn it, though Charms was probably the likely course. Raizel's jaw looked fine on the outside, nothing punched out of its intended structures and all that. She couldn't exactly tell just how hard Zach punched, but "We'll go ask the nurse for ice if it swells later," she said. As Zach returned to his seat, cup in hand, Alyssea hummed. "I'm surprised the cup didn't break." The sudden fall should've had an impact, considering the floor wasn't carpet. She looked back to the floor and cringed at the tea leaves strewn about. "Anyways, I'm sure the professor has extra tea leaves and water so you can do your reading again." Alyssea raised her hand. Once she got the professor's attention, she pointed at Zach's empty cup. "Miss! Could we get another batch of tea leaves and water? Sorry about the mess..."

❂《 ⌜ September 2, 2024 ▎ Monday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔A healing spell, Episkey. Zach sure was making his way into becoming the healer that he had always dreamed of. That spell was also handy if one wanted to lessen their time visiting the Hospital Wing just to get their bruises treated. That was one of the reasons why Raizel had the same spell as he does. It was only because the people in the Hospital Wing, the nurse and the interns, were probably getting sick of her visiting so much and she kind of felt bad about it. Episkey would be enough to heal almost any injury she could get from duelling and flying. If not… well, she could always just sleep it off. The spell worked wonders. It was like she wasn't even punched in the first place once it had managed to soothe the aches. Luckily, her jaw wasn't broken.
“No need.” Raizel told Alyssea as she rubbed the part where she was hit, sighing after. A simple thing like swelling was not worth the trip down to the Hospital Wing. It’d just waste people's time. “I’ll manage and it doesn't hurt anymore.” She too, has her own spell to rely on. If it swells, then she'll just have to heal it with an Episkey of her own. Hopefully, she doesn't fail in doing so. Once that was over, Raizel returned to her seat, not wanting to catch any more unwanted attention. “I bet you didn't see the Grim before, Zach.” She tried to assure her friend to keep him from panicking much like before. “Maybe this time, stay calm before throwing the cup.” Just as she said that, her eyes were on the spot where the cup had landed earlier, seeing the mess it had caused. Meanwhile, Alyssea was already asking the professor to give glass some tea leaves and water to try it out again. “It could be a good future. Maybe you’ll end up marrying a rich person and become the best healer.” Raizel grinned.
There was no way the Grim was present. Out of the three of them, he and Alyssea had the brightest future. Both were talented. Zach was a good duellist before he stepped down and broom racing captain. Alyssea was also a broom racing captain and a former duellist who actually won a match. Her? She has nothing in her name, not even a win. A frown formed on her face as she leaned back, eyes going back to the cup that laid in front of her. She was afraid of what she'd see in there, the proof of her bad luck so in the end, she didn't bother to take a single glance. If there was someone who could get the Grim, it’d be her.
