Croydon is a type of a quaint town that one would never forget, especially when one was nurtured and raised here as a child. Aurelia almost have memorised the phrases the elderly in the said quaint town always mutter to the kids, who they deem as a generation who will shape the future someday. One always go back to their roots, no matter how long it was. Which the young badger also agrees on, as some of the people she knew in Croydon always come back, even from abroad, in order to spend their withering life away here. A type of stories where one could only perceive only happens in the films would be astonished to encounter Croydon as everything unfolds here as though pull out from written fairytales.

In the cab her Mum hailed over as soon as they exited the King's Cross Station, Cordelia told her stories about people in their small town, stories that unfolded while she was away studying in Scotland. Her Mum supposed this girl three years older from her was seemingly pregnant; or how this local merchant had been hospitalised for engaging in a brawl near a local pub, inebriated; or how this couple that lives nearby their block was already married because of unforeseeable circumstances, such as bearing a child. Aurelia learnt to tune this down, her Mum's buzzing voice only a hum in her ears as her deep brown eyes stared at the scenery outside, watching sleet hit the cab window. Buildings still looked disheartening from their greyish colours that complimented the cast overhead, but this is London.

That is how things should be.

"Still as dramatic as ever, then?" The raven-haired badger asked absent-mindedly, her voice a little low. When she turned to her mother, awaiting for a response, Cordelia was smiling at her, no wrinkles in her otherwise delicate and beautiful face. It has been a long time since she saw her familiar face, and she supposed it never changed even though she did not see her for months, a gap of time that she always deem as unbearable. Cordelia Valentine is only 27 years old, and unlike Aurelia who sported raven-coloured long curls and deep brown eyes, she has long, blonde and silky hair, which complimented her striking blue eyes. Seeing as the young badger looked nothing like her mother, it was always rumoured that she must be adopted and taken only due to the kindest heart of all of Croydon.

Cordelia had always been strikingly and surprisingly beautiful, she always has an angelic expression that made other people stare in awe; a type of young woman where people always execute a double take to see her better, questioning her actual existence. For a long time, their quaint and small town always talk and gossip about her as though she was a saint, always regarded as the common and local sweetheart. It might be true that Aurelia looked nothing like her gorgeous mother, but their faces contort similarly when expressing and reacting onto something—the same contortions of disgust, of sadness, of happiness, of fear, of anger, and of the similar viciousness. Cordelia Valentine took pride in her physical appearance, she always dress accordingly that complimented and enhances her beauty.

This is why her daughter was no foreigner in everything related to fashion or products that enhances the appearance of young women. It is always her advise that people are easily manipulated, always disregard their upbringing, charms and cleverness always and always prevail in this impressionable world. However, Aurelia comes to take pride in her intelligence and cleverness more rather than beauty, in which her mother always tell her that she has. Cordelia, unfortunately, wielded both; the young badger always perceive that her unprecedented arrival in this world had become her mother's curse, as this world does not like seeing anyone overjoyed and wielded remarkable skill sets. She is a curse, she thought, and she always wondered and pondered the possibility of aborting her.

"I missed you, you know?" Cordelia suddenly expressed in a tender and motherly voice, which contradicted the delicateness of her face, "my smart, smart daughter. The house feels empty without seeing you curled up in the loveseat, reading a book or studying near the hearth." Her mother was never nonchalant, she had always been tender and expressive, unlike how Aurelia unfairly portrayed her to be. If her daughter grew up to be such a troublemaker, she will be the type of person who would enable her actions—which highlighted her incompetence as a mother herself. However, she was always busy at work and juggled around different jobs that have no relations to each other, only coming home at midnight when the young badger is already asleep and tucked in her bed.

A child that only yearns for the time spent.

Opening her mouth just for her to close it again, an adamant refusal to speak and reply to this unforeseeable tenderness; goosebumps appeared on her skin, coldness that runs through her veins without her permission, the beat of her heart that pumps in irregularity, as she always yearned for attention and now that she got it successfully, have been uncertain how to react in fear of undermining it. Her deep brown eyes flickered on the scenery outside again, her pale face reddening as she supposed that the cab driver must have heard this unacceptable vulnerability, her nimble fingers twiddling on the loose thread of her sweater. Must have been the wind... although it would be improbable as the cab windows are closed due to the precipitation.

"How is Rem, then?" Rem had been Cordelia's boyfriend before Aurelia left. Her mother perhaps have commitment issues as men in her life never come close to the prospect of being long-term, it might have rooted to the belief that she only uses them for personal and beneficial gain, in which Aurelia had never had problems with as her mother's life, another part of her that the young Hufflepuff witch never come across. As expected, her Mum only shrugged as though everything that unfolded between her and Rem had been nothing worth mentioning. "Ut solet As usual," flipping her silky blonde hair as though it was a dirt of her shoulders, "no different than any man I have been with, you know what usual is." Her daughter only rolled her eyes, which she saw and made her laugh uncontrollably.
