A Mirror Between Us

----@Stelle Mims------------------Outfit------------------------- March 11th, 2025
The last few weeks had been tough for the young hufflepuff. She'd been feeling sort of out of it ever since that kissing party, which she was still not sure why she joined in the first place. Now after the fact, it had been a terrible idea. I mean, what did she expect from a party with a bunch of ridiculously good looking people? Linnéa had never felt bad about her appearance, but her self-esteem was not that great to begin with. Confidence or not, how could she compete with a girl that was literally perfect? She couldn't compare, and she knew that.
The night had been a disaster from start to finish, except that she had shared some decent kisses with people. Good enough to make up for the kick to her already non-existent ego, however...? Techically she should be over it already. Everyone else had moved on, she'd even talked to Quentin after avoiding him for a week or two, and he had apologized for acting not like himself. Linnéa had forgiven him of course, it wasn't like her to keep grudges, but no matter how much she told him they were alright, the damages couldn't be undone. As much as she hated to admit it, she had been jealous- still was, to some degree. Watching her crush drool over another girl, knowing you'll never look like that, it fucking hurt. It was just a question of time... she supposed.
Sighing, she flushed the toilet, where she'd been sitting mindlessly for close to half an hour at this point, using the lavatory as some kind of refugee from everyone around her. As soon as she went out there, she would have put up act back up that everything was okay. No one would probably dislike her for not being okay, but maybe her pride kept her from being honest with her friends. I mean, she'd already admitted to being hurt, what possibly more could she ask of him? No, this was something she would have to deal with on her own and get over.
Bracing herself for facing the world again, she unlocked the door to the stall and walked with her head low towards the basins to wash her hands. Lin barely even registered that she wasn't alone. It was a bathroom after all, not the most unexpected place to see other girls, but when she glanced to the blonde washing her hands just beside her, Linnéa did a double take.
It was HER. You'd think they'd run into each other sooner, they were in the same house after all, but surprisingly she hadn't seen her much. Stelle was stunningly pretty like always, of course. Involuntarily, all the feelings she'd just tried to lock away was brought back to the surface and she quickly glanced away, refusing to look at her. Linnéa did the only thing she knew how to do: she ignored her to the best of her abilities, in other words: not very well, still acutely aware of her flawless precense just beside her.

A Mirror Between Us
Stelle had never been a fan of the Hogwarts bathrooms. It wasn't that they were unpleasant—in fact, they were quite clean by the standards of a magical castle full of careless students—but they had always seemed like a place with too many echoes, too cold, and, above all, an easy refuge for unwanted thoughts. Still, she'd ended up there, leaning against the sink as she let the water run without much purpose. Her thoughts were scattered, caught between the day's meaningless conversations and the vague feeling of unease that had followed her since that party. She didn't regret going, but she couldn't say it had been a completely pleasant experience either. It had been a reminder of things she preferred not to overanalyze.₊⁺⋆ Date: March 11th, 2025| Number of words: 501| Dialogue: #aa5713 ⋆⁺₊
She sighed, shaking her head as if that would dispel the feeling of unease. There was no point in dwelling on it. She'd decided long ago that she wouldn't waste energy on situations beyond her control. She straightened and ran her hands under the running water, enjoying the warmth before scrubbing them with soap. A movement beside her caught her attention, and without thinking, she looked up. She wasn't alone.
Stelle barely noticed Linnéa's presence at first. She was deep in her own thoughts, trying to remember if she had any homework to do before dinner. However, a strange tension in the air made her look up, and then she saw her. Linnéa was there, beside her, her head down, her shoulders slightly tense. Something about her posture seemed... uncomfortably stiff. It wasn't as if she was expecting a smile or a greeting, but the way the other girl avoided looking at her directly gave her the feeling that something wasn't right.
She wasn't stupid. She'd noticed the brushes, the averted glances, the way some people seemed to act differently after that party. She didn't know exactly what had happened between Linnéa and Quentin, nor was she interested in meddling in other people's dramas, but the energy emanating from the girl at her side wasn't easy to ignore.
For a moment, she considered simply finishing drying her hands and leaving. But a part of her, the one that hated awkward silences and unnecessary tension, refused to do so.—You know, I don't think we've ever really talked, even though we're in the same house—. she commented casually, shaking the water off her hands and grabbing a towel. He tilted his head slightly, glancing at her. It wasn't an attempt at confrontation, just... curiosity.
—Linnéa, right? We met at Sebastian's party. Your kiss was tender, you're hard to forget—. she said with a smile, trying to lighten the mood. She felt the words starting to spill out of her mouth without a second thought. Maybe she was nervous because Linnea looked like that. She didn't have time to think about that. She had to think about not saying something stupid and shutting up before it was too late.
—I'm Stelle, do you... do you remember me?—. she finally asked.

A Mirror Between Us

Her plan had been to quickly wash up and slip out the doors before the other girl could notice her- there was no reason for her to pay attention to Linnéa anyway, right? They technically didn't know each other, she probably didn't remember her. Still, it didn't stop her from feeling very awkward by the proximity of standing next to Stelle, after everything that had happened. Once again, it wasn't her fault, but... well, she was jealous.
Linnéa grabbed a towel to wipe her hands when the other girl spoke to her. Surprised, Linnéas gaze darted to the blonde girl, though she kind of instantly regret it, feeling that weird woozy feeling again clouding her mind as she laid eyes on the girl. There weren't any words good enough to describe the feeling... it was just odd. Like she was put under a spell, hypnotized the longer she looked. It was better not looking too closely. She glanced down at her hands drying themselves instead. It was difficult to read the lines between her words: Was she trying to confront her or was it merely a casual statement? It was true, but why now all of a sudden?
"Yeah... We have the same classes, too." Linnéa eventually said, tone suggesting she agreed but clearly there had been opportunities for them to talk- which perhaps made it more absurd that they had subconciously ignored each other for months. Plenty of opportunities, they just seemed to have different schedules outside of class. Or perhaps just different friend groups.
As much as she tried to not look at Stelle, Lin couldn't stop herself from blatantly staring at her at her next words. Not sure what surprised her the most, that she remembered her name or that she remembered her from her kiss. Her face was now blushing profusely as she tried to muster up a response. For some reason Linnéa had gotten the impression that Stelle hadn't been particularly impressed by it. Now that she know that wasn't necessarily the case... oh wow. She didn't know what to think of that. It probably meant nothing more than she wanted to be nice. Of course she wasn't just perfect looking- She was kind too(when she wasn't subconciously stealing crushes)! Some people really had it all.
The other girl asked another question before she could respond to the first, mind-blowing revelation, and it was kind of a saving grace. "Of course I remember you," how quickly she blurted it out was a tell-tale sign of how nervous she was. "You're kind of hard to forget for many reasons. I mean, I know you're quite popular, and have seen you around before the party even happened." Realizing she had just admitted to keeping her eyes on the girl and still hadn't introduced herself properly, she added with a sheepish smile: "Um, yeah, I'm Linnéa, by the way. I'm surprised you remember."

Stelle tilted her head curiously, observing the faint blush spreading across Linnéa's cheeks. She wasn't sure if the other girl was uncomfortable, nervous, or just surprised by the conversation, but she didn't seem entirely unconcerned. That was something.₊⁺⋆ Date: March 11th, 2025| Number of words: 407| Dialogue: #aa5713 ⋆⁺₊
—Of course I remember you—. she replied matter-of-factly, leaning against the sink with her arms crossed. It wasn't an empty response or an attempt at being friendly for no reason. She remembered the party all too clearly, and although many faces blended together, there were details that stayed etched in her memory. Linnéa was one of those details. —I don't usually forget things like that—.
For a moment, her gaze scanned the other girl's face, analyzing her expression. It was hard to read, but something in her body language told her the conversation had taken her by surprise. That was odd. It wasn't the first time someone had reacted nervously around her, but with Linnéa, it seemed different. It wasn't the kind of dumbfounded stare some boys usually gave her, nor the suppressed envy she sometimes picked up from certain girls. There was something more subtle, more genuine about her reaction. Stelle let out a small smile, not entirely obvious.
—And I'm not that popular either, am I?—. She asked with a hint of amusement, though she wasn't really looking for an answer. She knew how people saw her, how they talked about her when they thought she wasn't listening. But hearing the perception of someone like Linnéa, who had clearly been watching her from afar, was intriguing. The pause that followed was brief, but long enough to give Linnéa room to react. Stelle could feel the tension in the air,not exactly awkward, but still present.
—I guess that makes us familiar strangers—. she commented in a lighter tone, as if amused by the idea. —Maybe it was time to change that—.
Her blue gaze settled on Linnéa's with intent, not with the same intensity with which she sometimes saw people lose their minds over her presence, but with something softer, closer. Until now, she felt extremely strange. She had never approached anyone like that, much less with that kind of trust. In general, the whole situation seemed odd to her. —Unless you'd rather we remain strangers, of course—. she added with a small nod, as if giving her the option to escape if that was what she wanted. Although, deep down, Stelle hoped Linnéa didn't really want that.
