There is a light breeze at the great lake. The sky is a light grey and the air is slightly humid, and the smell of petrichor lingers around the shore. Here it is quiet, and Sinclair finds herself again at her favourite spot away from the busy halls and towers at the castle- a small bench by the great lake. Except, she isn't sitting on the bench, rather she's sat next to it enjoying the cold grass. Sinclair, being out of her school robes, is predictably in the Edwardian clothes her mother made for her. With the slightly moody weather, this seems like a scene out of an old painting. She takes out her cauldron from a leather satchel and places it on her lap, and fishes out her carving tools from a small pouch. From the cauldron, she takes out a chunk of wood. Antler and bones are great to work with, but she wanted something softer today. Her fingers fidget with an awl as her neutral gaze stares out at the lake.

Hm... a fish? While sitting at a lake? How original. Know what, sure. It's good practice anyways. She mentally shrugs with a slight smirk to herself and starts to sketch out a fish with the awl. After that was done, she starts carving. Sitting back and leaning against the bench, she moves the cauldron onto her lap to catch the wood shavings, planning on burning them later.

The fresh atmosphere outside started to have an air of spring, which please Dove, she loved that season, when nature could grow and come back to life, where birds finally sang to appease everyone's ears. And with a pleasant day like this one, the best way to enjoy it was to read a novel near the great lake. So here she was, just lefting the corridors, heading to the wanted destination. This feeling she was having was one of the best : all her homework was done a,d she had no class planned. Her book on her right hand, the Irish girl was trotting in the grass, looking toward her to see if anybody was there, in which case she would probably change her way. However, what she saw in front of her intrigued her : an cosy looking empy bench was standing next to the lake, and yet a person was sitting next to it. Even if this was none of her business, Dove kind of wanted to know the purpose of this girl. As she was walking towards her, she started to see some details she hadn't noticed before : the person seemed to be a girl, wearing black short hair, and this girl seemed to do, or make something. This definitly stired up Dove's curiosity. But she didn't want to disturb her, so she approached her quietly to look over her shoudler. She could feel her mouth opening into a big 'O' shape : the back-haired girl was sculpting some wood. She still couldn't see what she was about to make, but she difdn't want to stay her saying nothing :

" Hey ! What are you carving ?

The girl finds her alone time being interrupted by someone she doesn't speak to often. She had heard the footsteps leading up to the question, and initially thought it was just a passer-by. Apparently not. Sinclair was a little surprised that someone would even talk to her, as she did not think that sitting next to a bench by the lake would be inviting for an interaction.

However, a question was asked, and she shall answer. "A fish of sorts," Sinclair answers neutrally. Her tone wasn't friendly in particular, nor was it cold. Just...straight to the point. She turns to glance at the girl, small in stature with long black hair... She's seen her face around school. Dove, wasn't it? Sinclair didn't know too much about her apart from that she was a ravenclaw, and so her impression of her was simply neutral. The gryffindor however, was the type to keep to herself, not particularly interested in engaging in whatever drama that may arise from students- most often somewhat detached, and incredibly selective about the company she keeps. And so, after answering, she turned her focus back to her wood craft, thinking that her answer would satisfy her classmate's brief curiosity and that was that.

The answer of the girl, although casual, made Dove's heart tighten a little bit. Inside of her, she was hoping that the short-haired girl could like a question about her art, but it seemed like she didn't really care. After all, she may have came here to be on her own at first. But when she turned around to observe Dove, the Ravenclaw kind of recognised her : this Edwardian style couldn't go unnoticed. So yeah, she was sure she had already seen her in the corridors, and if she wasn't wrong the girl was in Gryffindor. But what could be her name ? She had no idea. She was about to ask her, when the old fashion girl turned her back to her. Pfff, seems like she doesn't like discussion. She thought. So, she just sat on the bench, and opened her novel.
However, after a few minutes, she still couldn't finish reading a single page. What was wrong with her ? She originally came her to read this book, and here she was now, unable to focus on it. It was like if she was in a vicious circle in which she could find a loophole. Because, it's was a bit obvious that the "fish" girl was disturbing her reading. But for which reason ? Dove couldn't be sure for now. However, she didn't want to leave this place. First of all, she loved the view, and the bench was pretty confortable. And also, she wanted to see the finish piece of wood of the unknown girl. After another few minutes, she realised that maybe she just wanted to know her name. After all, she was sure she knew her face, but her being unable to put a name on itf was trotting in her mind.

"Ho um... By the way, what is your name ?

She was not expecting the girl to sit down. Nor to proceed to take out a book and read- at least, that's what it sounded like from the faint rustle of paper behind her. After a while, she just figures this girl was here to do the same as she was- just to enjoy some quiet next to the lake.

Sinclair presses the blade against the wood and starts to carve. There's quite a lot to shave down, so she focuses on making the block of wood somewhat rounder first. Most wood shavings neatly fall into the cauldron, and as for the strays she picks them from her clothes and tosses them inside in intervals. For a few minutes, it is only the sound of paper, wood carving, and the light rippling of the lake.

Then, the question came. Sinclair's hands pause as she was about to cut into the wood, instead brushing her hair back with her fingers so it was out of her eyes. She knew, or rather assumed this girl's name, but since her own wasn't known she thought it would be better to ask in return. She turns back, polite, "Sinclair Carver. And you by chance are...?"

Dove was waiting for the girl's answer, hoping that it wouldn't disturb her work. She noticed that, when she asked her question, the short haired girl stopped its way to the wood. Did it mean that it annoyed her, it could be a sign to incite Dove to shut her mouth. Or maybe she was just overthinking, and the still-unknown girl was just making a pose in her activity to pay attention to Dove's question. And indeed, it was the second option.
Sinclair Carver ? I'm sure I've heard this name before. She thought. But one thing was certain that the unkn- no, that Sinclair wasn't in any of her classes. Anyway, Dove was happy to see that she didn't annoy her, well it didn't seem to. She loved to meet new people, even if her grandmother always told her that not everyone is nice. The Irish girl really hoped that Sinclair wasn't a "mean" girl, even if she was sure she probably would meet her again only a few times.
"I'm Dove Cullen. Nice to meet you !" She said, greeting her with her usual smile.
Even if she would have loved to learn a bit more about Sinclair, she thought that it was maybe, or surely, not her case, so she just went back reading her book. Well, reading was a big word, since she kind of lost the envy to read.

Sinclair lightly nods, making note of the name. She turns back to her carving, "Not many people care to approach me." Even if she did not show it, Sinclair was just a bit wary that someone would approach her. To her, it's a little out of the blue that someone would think of her presence at the lake as inviting. Her past before Hogwarts had only proven to her that it's better to keep out of the way and be unseen. So far she has not seen herself as approachable, and did not intend to give off that impression either. Attention was just...exhausting, and so the tween preferred to adhere to her somewhat aloof demeanour. She'd often keep to herself, yet wouldn't be afraid to speak up or take things into her own hands, seemingly not very bothered by the world around her. However... she did come to the lake to be alone. Despite all this, her manner of speech and mannerisms seem casual. There is a certain openness in her words- just enough to show an underlying curiosity as the blade shaves the basswood with ease, the fibres breaking with a subtle squeak with every cut.

The earthy ground smells wonderful in this slightly foggy setting, and the grass, though damp from humidity, feels warm and cushions her.

She pauses her carving and turns to observe Dove, her tone neutral and slightly inquisitive, "Is there a reason you're here? Just curious."

After a few minutes, the Irish girl was finally able to read more than one page without having to go back to the first sentence because she wasn't concentrated enough to understand what she was reading. However, the presence of Sinclair next to her kind of still disturbed her, in a way she couldn't explain. Indeed, she was quiet, and seemed to be concentrated into her wood work. Maybe this was what perturbing her, the Edwardian girl seemed to have no concentration problem, even with a "stranger" near by, which was harder for Dove. Was it jealousy ? She knew she could easily lose her attention for something. Or maybe it was only impatience, Dove wanted to see the result of Sinclair's stuff, but she was almost sure it wouldn't be the case. Or it could be a bit of both, and anyway, this thought made her going back into her reading, again. Though, at this time, Sinclair's voice reached her ears, so she closed her novel to put it on her knees.
"Well, as you can see, I came her to read."
Of course, this wasn't the only reason. She could read in another place, such as the library, her common room, or even her very comfortable bed. However, with Spring coming, she could not just stay inside. Besides, she now realised it was also a great opportunity to meet new people.
"And the weather is starting to be welcoming, it would be a shame not to go outside."

She smiles lightly, perhaps out of brief politeness. The current weather is quite nice- an overcast sky with the grass smelling damp. To Sinclair, days like this sitting out by the lake was incredibly peaceful. And even if it started to drizzle, she may find it hard to move indoors. Sinclair notes the gentle sound of the book being closed and put down. Contradictory to what was said, has the girl decided to stop reading after all? The Gryffindor continues to shave the piece of wood in thought after a brief glance at Dove behind her and the book on her lap. The subtle squeak of metal against wood continues, shavings collecting in the cauldron with barely any sound. A breeze rustles the leaves on the nearby tree, and in the distance two crows playfully jump about in the grass with their beaks open.

"Am I distracting you from your reading?" Sinclair turns to her in question, her lips just the slightest bit curled, with eyes that seemed to watch Dove knowingly. However what Sinclair actually knew or did not know was unknown. A sudden, loud cawing of crows erupts in their playful squabble, followed by the beating of wings and silence. Sinclair only briefly turns her gaze towards the sound before returning to Dove's face.

After answering to Sinclair, Dove noticed something she was sure she hadn't seen earlier. Is this a smile ? she thought for a second, after that the famous smile disappeared from the Edwardian girl's face, who returned to her work.
Her novel still on her lap, Dove didn't find the envy to re-open it. She could still continue her reading later, of another calm day like this one. After all, since the weather was appeasing, she decided to close her eyes for a few time, and just enjoy the slight breeze walking all along her face, and the discret noise of the great lake near the two girls, which waves seemed to caress the border of the lake. But most of all, the sound of Sinclair working her wood accompagnied all this nature song quite perfectly.
Suddenlty, all her thoughts left her head, and she slightly startled, hoping Sinclair didn't notice it. The qufestion of the girl made Dove's cheeks pinker than a second ago. But to make sure it wasn't too obvious, the Irish girl took a quick breath before answering :
"What ? Of course not, I'm a bit tired that's all."
According to Dove, this reaction was quite credible, well she hoped so. She was asking herself why would Sinclair ask this question ; she had her back facing Dove during all this time, so how could she notice Dove only read a few pages ? She must have eyes behing her head. She imagined, which made her smile.
