It was a fairly sunny Saturday the two Heads of House had picked for their inter-house contest. The temperature was pleasing, at least for mid-September in the Scottish Highlands, and the sun reflected beautifully on the surface of the Great Lake - at least in the parts where it reached that far.

An almost transparent, smooth plane covered a piece of the lake maybe 25 feet away from the shoreline closest to the castle. From afar it almost looked to be made of glass, but the closer one got the more it resembled crystal clear ice, like one might have found on a mountain lake or a glacier. It was a rectangular playing field, only interrupted by a white line that parted the area into two halves, and hovered about 3 feet above the Great Lake's body of water.

Elaine stood at the pier and waited for the students from both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw to gather. She had dressed in a set of dark red dress robes for the occasion, a color that was usually not found in her wardrobe. Special events required a special dress however, and from what he had learned so far at Hogwarts there was no fault to be found with a Head of House cheering for their own above the other houses. That this was a friendly match between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor; with no grades involved the Professor saw no need to hide that she would prefer for her lion cubs to win.

The Ravenclaw Head of House obviously shared her feelings, for Barnaby Ryker was high in the air above the playing field, wearing some rather blue Quidditch robes himself. It would be easier for him to supervise the match-up from his high vantage point.

Slowly but steadily the students were trickling in, some competitors while others had only come to watch the action or perhaps had found their way to the Great Lake for entirely different reasons on this beautiful late summer day. They all would have a nice view on the game from the shore, though a carefully cast spell was there to stop their voices from being heard clearly by the competitors to prevent outside interverence.

"Welcome, everyone, to our game of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw dodgeball," Elaine greeted the students, her voice even. The chatter at the lakeside started to die down as the students wanted to know how the game would proceed.

"You can see the playing field behind me. I will assit you in getting onto it in a minute, and also help all those how are out of the game to come back here. The rules are simple: everyone who is hit by a ball is automatically out of the game. In case you catch a ball you remain in, friendly fire is not allowed. You may not cross the line in the middle of the field, if you do so you are disqualified. Wands are allowed, but if we notice a student casting any offensive spells they are disqualified as well. The team who manages to remove all their opponents from the playing field wins."

Exhited murmurs followed her introduction. A few of the students already formed groups and whispered to each other, talking strategy, but she interrupted them before they could get too far ahead of themselves. "Now, line up, please."

A few minutes of shoving and bumping later a line had formed on the pier, and Elaine ushered on group after another into a boat that had been towed to the pier, ferrying them to the platform and then hovering them on top of it. With almost three dozen students it took her the better part of half an hour to get all of them ready to start the game. Finally it was only her who remained in the boat and she maneuvered it into a position on the lake that granted her a good view on the playing field.

She lifted her wand, "Accio", and a wooden box floated over from the shoreline. Elaine opened it deftly and then lifted it into the air with a Wingardium Leviosa to stop right beside Barnaby. He used an Amplifying Charm and then picked the first of the six balls from the box.

"Ready?" He threw the balls onto the field one after another, three towards his own students and another three towards the Gryffindors. "GO!"

Rules:
• you have 1 Action per turn, his Action can either be to [throw a ball] or to [cast a spell]. In both cases you have to specifiy which player is your [target]. If you don't do so the moderators will roll a dice to see who you aim for
• both moving and [picking up a ball] are free Actions. If you want to pick up a ball, please say which. [Ball 1], [Ball 2] & [Ball 3] are currently in the Ravenclaw area of the court, [Ball 4], [Ball 5] and [Ball 6] are with Gryffindor. If multiple players try to pick up and throw the same ball, there will be a Strength Check to see who of them succeeds in grabbing it
• a student who loses a Strength Check to grapple a ball will also lose their Action for that turn (as turns are moderated after all players have posted)
• balls cannot be bespelled in any way, they are charmed against that
• Duelling test rules apply for spells that were used in the Duelling beta. They will apply stat impairments on your opponents as stated here
• you are free to use spells not used in the Duelling Beta, their effects will be decided by the moderators
you can only use the spells you know, i.e. that are in your trunk
• you cannot directly damage other players with spells. Every spell that hit its target will only hinder them in some way
• the spells Incendio (Duo), Flipendo, Slugulus Eructo and Diffindo are forbidden, those who use them will be disqualified
• you will automatically try to evade any ball thrown at you. If your Evasion roll is lower than the thrower's Accuracy roll you will be hit and out
• If you evade by a margin of 1-5 then ball will be on the ground where anyone can pick it up. If your Evasion roll is 6 or more points higher than the Accuracy roll of your opponent however, then you will automatically catch the ball, meaning you get to either throw it in the following round or pass it to another player to let them throw
• the word minimum for a post is 100 words
• post your Action beneath your RP post so the moderators can see what you do
• if you want to be a spectator, please create a separate thread to not disturb the players
• Abilities of players that have not posted that round will not be counted in the mod post.
• If one team has more players than the other at the beginning of the game, then the smaller team will have a number of "extra lives" equaling the difference in players, so if one team has 20 and the other 17 at the beginning of the game then team two will have 3 extra lives to make up for the difference. These will be used first, and the team can not choose how to distribute the extra lives.

Kyle woke up the same way he did every day. By having to fight to pull his head free of his pillow. After about five minutes Of wrestling he was finally free and the pillow burrowed under his blankets, waiting for its next opportunity to strike.

Kyle threw on a black shirt with an Irish flag printed on the chest, some ratty worn jeans and his favorite pair of boots. He had been waiting for today’s activity since he first heard about it and he was ready to put some nerd birds in their place. With an excited wild grin on his face he jumped down almost all the stairs to the common room(and only barely missed the landing) then ran out the entrance to the common room. Stopping just long enough to turn and face the Fat lady ”I’m gonna go beat some Birds!” he shouted at the painting and then he was gone.

He arrived at the arena for the dodge ball game and was only a little winded from sprinting the whole way there, he should have taken into consideration he lived in Gryffindor Tower. Lots of ground to cover. Kyle gave his house mates thumbs up and pats on the back and shot finger guns and cocky winks at the ravenclaws. He was gonna nail someone right in the face. And he couldn’t wait to hear the loud ‘Pohnk’ noise when he did.

Once both sides were lined up he narrows his eyes on excitement and locked his eyes on ball number 4. That one was his. Once given the go he rushed forward and picked it up the ball(or tried to if someone fought him fought him for it)

If the ball did find its way into his hands he looked over the enemy team he saw Oliver. He could almost hear a voice in the back of his head cry out Destroy him. With that Kyle pulled back and threw the ball as hard as he could at Oliver Hart

[quote]Alan was excited to play this game and wondered who else of the Gryffindors had signed up for the game and how they would do. He already thought about how they would win it and prayed about some good people being in his team; then again they were the Gryffindor Team, they were born to win! He had some casual clothes on, that allowed for more movement than the school robes and walked over to the Great Lake, where they would meet.

Alan would see some people, that were familiar to him and had to grin, this would be great! As it looked they had Max, Eris and the other guy he met on the Grounds on his team, who seemed to be very keen on fights and winning. It made Alan's grin brighten ever so slightly, as he walked over to the group and listened along to what the professors were saying; stating the rules and whatnot.

So when the few balls were thrown into the game and a signal was given, Alan would run over to grab the sixth ball thrown, as most students would probably focused on the first few that were given to his house and -if successful- aimed it at a girl. After a few milli-seconds of trying to predict her movement, he threw the ball at Phaedra, a Ravenclaw he vaguely remembered meeting in the library.

Janus watched the balls fall from the sky as adrenaline kicked in, giving him a calm sense of focus. He was just a first year and he hadn't even mastered the few charms he'd been taught so far, so spell casting was out of question. He knew that. But he knew how to throw a ball, of that he was sure. Coming back to something so familiar here gave him a confidence he'd lacked during the first two weeks. Sure, they were hovering in the middle of a lake and the pitch looked like magical ice, but it was still dodgeball.

He eyed the Gryffindor team and their wands warily, trying to grasp who was dangerous and who was a possible target.
The balls touched the ground.
He saw a Ravenclaw girl go for one of them so he decided to try and run for a different one, keeping an eye out for his opponents.
He suddenly glimpsed a young Gryffindor girl, probably first year like him and with a boyish cut. That would do.
Action: try to grab Ball 1 and throw it at Adrian Calhoun

Adam had signed up to play dodgeball mostly on impulse, but as he filed onto the shores of the Great Lake with his classmates he knew he'd made a good decision. It made sense that a Hogwarts game of dodgeball would be taken to the extreme, and what an extreme it was. They were going to be playing on top of the water, barely a meter from the surface, on a clear floor that made the game feel even more exciting. The sun was out, it wasn't all too cold, and it looked like everyone was ready to get their game on.

Slowly but surely, the students were brought onto the playing field. Adam was looking over the crowds, scanning both teams for people he knew. Cecily, Phae, and Dymph were all familiar faces and allies -- Max and Eris were on the opposition. He wouldn't aim for Eris unless he absolutely had to, but Max was pretty much fair game. He just had to find the right angle...

As Adam tried to contemplate strategy, the dodgeballs came soaring down from the air, accompanied by Professor Ryker's voice telling them to go. Like a rocket, Adam ran to scoop up one of the balls. He knew they were allowed to use spells in this game, but it seemed more fun to do it the traditional way; just to start out with, at least. Narrowing his eyes in search of a target, he picked one of the Gryffindor boys at random to aim for. This game brought back memories of his first-year snowball fight, which he'd done both wonderfully and terribly in. Then again, that had been a while ago, and Adam was (hopefully) much better in his teenage years. He wanted to do everything he could to help Ravenclaw win.

As she closed her eyes there was a cacophony of sound around. The Great Lake, where she usually came for respite and comfort had been transformed into a beautiful expanse that looked almost like glass. The two heads of house stayed close, having prepared everything so well. Her breath was heavy and low as she listened to rules. She'd need to be ready and keen for this event to ensure Ravenclaw came out victorious. It was game day.

Finally on the plane, she stood in line amongst her fellow Ravenclaws. She was standing between Tatiana Crane and Oliver Hart, neither of whom she knew well, but she could see they were older and as such might be able to offer her some protection. She looked to either side of her before the word "GO!" launched them forward. Bouncing off a bent knee on the line, she pushed forward, keeping her head down as she reached to grab the ball nearest her, Ball 3.

Picking it up, she looked across the way to see who was close. From the crowd, she recognized Maggie Parker who had thrown the wonderful start of term party. But this was war, party or no party. And so, she curled back the ball and angled it in Maggie's direction. As she followed it along its trajection, she noticed another ball spinning through the air and it appeared to be coming in this general direction, specifically towards Oliver. "Oliver, move!" she called out to him, hoping he'd be able to dodge. With that, she turned, searching the field for the next ball she could reach.
ACTION: Ball 3 thrown at Maggie Parker.
NB: I assumed I was standing next to Tatiana and Oliver per the order in the opening post. If this is not okay, please let me know and I will fix it.

This seemed fun! Eris grinned, losing herself in the throng of people on the playing field. Her awe over the structure they were playing on had dissipated, replaced by an eagerness to win. Catching sight of Alan in the mix, Eris gave her old friend a faint wave. Thinking she saw Max, Eris then stuck her tongue out at him. Looking around the crowd of Gryffindors, the small redhead smirked. She was completely and utterly ready to win this thing. Gusto rising up in her, Eris called out. "Let's see who can get the most ravenclaws hit! Whoever wins gets..bragging rights! And, we win the game. That's most important."

Eris didn't even think about the fact the structure holding them up could break. Instead, she waited for the game to start. Once it did, the redhead charged forward with the few other Gryffindors, snatching up the fifth ball. Holding it securely in her hands, Eris then turned to inspect the Ravenclaws on the other side of the field. Sure, using spells would be easier, but Eris didn't really understand what they were to be doing with spells. With only defensive spells, it seemed boring. Eris really did not want to spend her time in the background, defending her team. That was something that people who were scared could do. She personally, was not averse to chucking balls at people, even though she doubted that they would land anywhere, with her limited strength. However, it was worth a try.

As she kept looking, Eris spotted Adam in the throng. Deciding not to throw the ball at him, Eris spotted another person with hair that was kind of blonde. Shrugging, Eris threw the ball in that girl's general direction.

Dymphna opted for a more casual wear rather than her usual blouse and skirt. Pants would allow her to be a better player, just like with Quidditch. It was exciting, to sign up for a muggle game alongside one of her roommates, Phaedra. She wasn't sure how good of a player her fellow Ravenclaw would be. Had she participated in the snowball fight last winter? She couldn't remember but Phaedra didn't seem to be the sporty type.

The blonde made it her mission throughout the game to not only win but to help Phaedra along the way. It didn't mean that they were friends, not yet anyway. Dymphna still saw her as a rival though more friendly now than before. Speaking with her over tea had helped push them into another direction, or at least that was how Dymphna thought of their strange sort of friendly-not-quite-friendship.

It took her a moment after the game began to snag a ball, quickly seeing that Alan was going after her roommate first thing. Perhaps she was only paranoid but that's what it seemed like to her. Hopefully whoever he was throwing at was able to move out of the way in time but just in case, she hurled the ball off in his direction.

The second Barnaby yelled go, Max decided to hang back and see how this thing would progress. He wasn't exactly the strongest player in the game on account of his arm injury, however he figured he was smart enough to make at least some difference. As other Gryffindors surged to snatch a ball and toss it before their Ravenclaw counterparts did, his eyes sought the people on the other team who'd already managed grabbed a ball. Adam Harringtom - that would be a rather fun rivalry if Max could ever manage to get hold of one of the weapons. He was aiming at Alan, and Max would've helped the pure-blood Gryff out if he didn't notice Dymphna Teague also throwing at the kid.

Tragic, but with two balls coming at him, Alan didn't have much of a hope to dodge. Or, at least, his chances were much lower than someone with only one projectile coming at them. Another Ravenclaw who looked unfamiliar grabbed a ball as well, and Max focused on the kid to see who'd he be throwing at. Some first year Max didn't recognize was to be the target, and with a small sigh Max readied his wand.

"Verdimillious," he breathed out with the proper wand movement, aiming at the young Ravenclaw boy. It wasn't an offensive spell so it should be fine, and it would work well to obscure the kid's vision and lower his accuracy enough to give the Gryff girl time to dodge. Max just hoped it was enough.

Griseldis was super excited because it was her first time to join a compitition like this in Hogwarts. Last year she never had the time to join any contests but this year she finally got the chance to do it and be on a team with her Housemates. She was very determined to prove herself and would try her best to help the team. She loved the fact that the dodgeball game was held at the Great Lake where she used to do her Tai Chi practice there every morning.

She wore in her red traditional Kung Fu uniform, so she could have better relexes in the game. Standing in line with the other Gryffindors and in a ready position, she watched as Professor Pendrast casted Wingardium Leviosa on the wooden box that now stopped right beside the Ravenclaw Head of House Professor Barnaby's side. She felt her heart beating so fast as if it would explode any minute. "Ready? GO!", Griseldis stared at the three other balls that were thrown towards the Gryffindor team. Should she grab the ball and aim a target or help her teammates from getting hit by a ball? She watched as Kyle their quidditch captian first went to grab ball Nr. 4 and tried to throw it at a familiar chubby Ravenclaw (Oliver Hart). Then she saw the third year Gryffindor (Alan Vanes), trying to threw the ball Nr. 6 at another Ravenclaw (Phaedra Stavrou). The last ball Nr. 5 had been taken away by Eris so now Grisleids could only be careful and look around if any Ravenclaw would try to throw a ball at her. While observing what was happening around them, Griseldis noticed a blond-haired Ravenclaw boy (Adam Harringtom) attempted to throw a ball at the third year Gryffindor (Alan Vanes).

Griseldis wanted to stop him in time so she quickly took out her wand and decided to use the Green Spark Charm on the blond-haired Ravenclaw boy in order to distract him.
"Verdimillious!", she shouted after she did the proper wand movement of the Charm and pronounced the incarnation correctly. She aimed her wand at the blond-haired Ravenclaw boy (Adam Harringtom) and hoped that she would succeed in protecting her teammate from getting hit by the ball.
