School has started again— and although Maggie absolutely dreaded the long hours of studying and sitting in class, her excitement for seeing her friends again outweighed that by a landslide. Fall had started to make its presence, the air gaining a cold nip that made Maggie shiver most of the time, so you couldn’t imagine how thankful she’d been when she walked into the outright cozy classroom of Ancient Runes.

The North Tower itself spiraled high into the sky— which made the view from the windows of the classroom absolutely stunning. Candles littered the classroom, giving it a warm glow that made Maggie feel extremely cozy. A fire crackled in fireplace, with a cauldron hanging over it as well. The whole scene made Maggie want to wrap herself up in a blanket and watch a horror movie or something— even if fall wasn’t her favorite season.

“Hello?” she called out, wondering what she was actually supposed to do. All she knew was that the new Ancient Runes teacher had needed help making candles, and Maggie had rounded up a few friends and signed herself up. The fact that this certain Professor was notorious for having a stash of chocolate frogs had nothing to do with it, of course, but Maggie wasn’t complaining when she saw them stacked up on a table in the back of the room.

Her eyes scanned over the small fires, encircled with stones that were most likely enchanted. She hadn’t ever made candles before, she didn’t have the faintest idea what she was actually supposed to be doing. She chewed her bottom lip as she waited for her friends, or maybe even the Professor, to walk into the classroom.

The school year was always a grueling one. Back in Muggle schooling, Millie hadn't been the best at, well, anything. She always had trouble with maths and reading, and didn't like science or history. Her art was always mediocre, and she never really made friends, despite how social she was.

Entering Hogwarts for the first time was truly magic at its first sight. For once, Millie started trying harder in classes, forcing her brain to work overtime, and getting pretty decent grades. She bloomed into a social butterfly, and made tons of friends that she treasured dearly.

One of those friends, happened to be a fellow Gryffindor named Maggie. It was weird how the two met, but they ended up becoming really good friends. Along with Maggie, Millie met a few other people, Sylvie and Carson. Like Maggie, it was rather odd how they met, with her and Carson meeting in the owlery, and meeting Sylvie, through Maggie it was just an odd bunch.

So when Millie heard that Maggie, Sylvie, Carson, and another girl named Charlotte, were going to help the Ancient Runes teacher with making candles, she had to ask to join. And it would be fun, anyways, Millie always loved making and smelling candles in different shops.

Though, she hadn't expected Maggie to be the only one in the classroom when Millie arrived, but she was still thrilled to see one of her friends. "Hey Maggie!" She called, skipping up to her friend, and pulling her into a hug.

Now the two just had to wait for the other guys to join, and they could start candle-making!

Carson’s mind was going a million miles per minute. He’d been worrying about so many things: Quidditch tryouts, Charlotte, his upcoming essay in Transfiguration, Charlotte, his sister’s birthday present, and Charlotte. He’d been in this state for awhile, since that night in the Hufflepuff Common Room, and when Maggie had asked him if he’d wanted to help her make candles, he’d almost denied her offer.

He then realized that this might help him take his mind off of things, might bring him to a small haven where he didn’t have to worry about anything. He wasn’t normally a worrier— in fact, it was extremely rare for him to even give something a second thought. But all the things he was worrying about were also things that he, coincidentally, cared about, and his inexperience was showing.

He arrived at the classroom with a long sleeved white t-shirt on, some adidas sweatpants, and a sweatshirt from an American football team he liked called the Chicago Bears. His hair was tousled, or, really, disheveled, and he looked like he’d just rolled out of bed.

When he stepped into the classroom, he thought he was still dreaming for a second. Small fires crackled all over the room, and candles were melting into the floorboards everywhere he looked. The whole atmosphere was smoky and, well, dreamy, especially with the warm firelight and the pale moonlight streaming through the windows.

Maggie and Millie stood in the room, seemingly waiting for him. He didn’t know if anyone else was coming, but he assumed it was just gonna be him and Maggie. He wasn’t bothered, though, he was friends with Millie as well and he liked her.

Compared to him, the two girls looked put-together. Well, Millie usually did, and Maggie on occasion, but his sloppiness seemed to be dramatized in their presence.

Maggie wore a beige-ish tan outfit, with a tan, cozy, knit sweater accompanied by mom jeans, a brown jacket with white puffy lining, and knit socks. She looked very autumn-y, something Carson liked as it reminded him of his second-favorite season coming up.

“What’s up?” he asked, as a way of greeting. “Where’s the Professor?”

ooc: guys, i owled Charlotte and Sylvie, and Sylvie responded saying that she might be a bit busy so we’re just gonna carry on.
After both Millie and Carson had arrived, the trio stood in a somewhat awkward suspension of silence. All any of them knew was that they were surrounded by tiny fires and that they were making candles. Maggie, who wasn’t really known for having the best patience, sighed as no Professor appeared.

“Well, I guess we’re just going to have to figure this out ourselves, huh?” she commented, rolling up he sleeves and dropping her bag onto the floor. She knelt down by one of the fires, noticing small strings laid out beside it. She took one, glanced at the wax in the bubbling cauldron, and put two and two together.

She’d seen this somewhere before— she just couldn’t remember where. You were supposed to dip the string into the wax over and over again, building up the layers until you had a candle. While Maggie may know how to do it, she was also not that confident in her candle-making abilities, so she still hesitated as she dipped the string into the wax. The cauldron was bubbling and boiling, and she did not want to get burnt, at all.

So, we gonna get to work or what?” Maggie joked, looking to the other two students amusedly. She motioned to the two cauldrons beside her, one for Millie, one for Carson. She’d be sandwiched in between the two, and she was looking forward to a night of talking, laughing, and, most importantly, gossiping.

Maggie had never been proud of the habit, but she was addicted to some good ‘ol juicy gossip. What? She was no saint, was she?

Hey, I have a question: cutest couple in Hogwarts?” she asked, raising a brow mischievously.

Carson rolled his eyes, a playful grin on his face even if he was completely and utterly exhausted. Maggie was able to do that— she somehow managed to get a smile out of him, even if he was pretty much a walking corpse.

“You know how bad gossiping is, right?” Carson admonished, yawning at the end of his sentence. “But, it’s definitely Millie and Lallie Luna.” he teased, winking at Millie as he teased her.

Anyone who knew anything knew that Millie and Luna were the cutest couple ever, and they thought they were being discreet. It was cute— a kind of secret romance, that, or they were both blind. Then again, it’d taken Carson like, a year, to notice that his dream girl liked him, so he couldn’t talk.

He followed Maggie’s lead, sitting down beside a cauldron and dipping a string into the wax. He wasn’t sure if he should tell Maggie and Millie about him and Charlotte— they were both really good friends of his, and Maggie was his best friend, but he still felt a little hesitant.

It wasn’t like he wasn’t proud of it or anything— it was just that saying it out loud, telling it to someone else, was way too real. He wanted it to be real, but it just— it scared him, a lot.

Millie was rather excited to make candles- she had been to theme parks and done it before. It would be like reliving family memories with best friends!

She rolled up her sleeves on her shirt and pulled up her knee-high socks. If she were to get wax on her outfit- all hell would break loose. It was her only outfit that her dad had hand-picked for her, and she was proud to wear it. Not that her dad had any fashion sense whatsoever- she would rather die than admit that.

While she was adjusting her outfit, Maggie started the conversation on the best couple. Embarassed, Millie shrugged. She didn't really know very many couples- and especially not in Hogwarts. Even though there were people snogging in the corridors and hidden cupboards every other day.

She furrowed her eyebrows, trying to think of a solution when Carson mentioned her and Lallie.

"I-" She shot Carson a nasty look. "We aren't a couple!" Well, not yet anyway. Not when Millie was still having a nasty crisis with her sexuality- and whether Lallie was also having these issues or not. Sexuality and gender was such a confusing thing for her. Especially when her parents had never taught her anything about it.

In her house, you had to figure most things out yourself. Not that her family hadn't been willing to answer questions, that wasn't the problem. The problem was that the questions weren't ones that Millie wanted to ask her parents. They could end up hating her and thinking that it all had something to do with her Parselmouth ability.

"Well I think that Carson and Charlotte Cadunt are the cutest couple." She teased back, smiling. If they ended up gossiping and talking the entire time, then most likely, these candles weren't going to get made. Not soon, anyway.

OOC: Oof sorry for the late response
Late, Charlotte was yet again late. For some reason, she kept arriving late these past few days and she was quite embarrassed and angry at herself. She hurried along the corridor, attaching her hair rapidly as she held her wand in her mouth, knowing her friends were probably all gathered inside. Her cheeks were red and small hairs were flying around her face, dancing as if a light wind blew over them. The corridor was rather empty, and the few students who happened to be there looked at her oddly, wondering why someone would run at such a time.

To be quite honest, Charlotte wasn't very keen on making candles for a professor as she knew how tideous and time-consuming it promised to be. But, her friends were there and spending a little time with them would be exactly what she needed right now. Finally, the classroom door came into view, the same dark wooden door, identical to all the doors surrounding it and yet, she could recognise it. Of course, as a first year, Charlotte couldn't attend Ancient Runes but she was awaiting this moment so very impatiently. A last few sprint and the girl was bursting into the calm classroom, her face more pink then ever, a big smile on her face. Just as she had expected, they were all gathered in a small half-circle, and she knew they had heard her judging by the sound she made as she ran inside, disturbing this perfeclty serene atmosphere.

She felt very happy that day, and nothing, absolutely nothing could change her mood, nothing, she felt invicible and hoped this would all be a good day for them. The brown skirt she wore moved gracefully as she walked, the golden details glistening in the soft candlelight, her cream blouse wrapping around her and draping on her shoulders like a cape. Her shoes were cream as well, making a nice clear sound as they hit the floor, that must've echoed loudly in the corridor. Her wand was the only thing she had decided to bring, deciding at the very last minute to go by her dormitory to plop her bag on her bed, probably the reason why she was just a tad late.

Glancing around the room, she realised Sylvie still wasn't there and then stopped to lay her eyes on Carson. Carson. Never in a million years would Charlotte have believed she would be his girlfriend, sitting next to him all the time, enoying some late nights by the chimney. This was yet another reason to smile wide at this upcoming candle-making. Not taking very long to look at everything around the room, she simply noticed the mysterious beauty of all those cauldrons hanging over the crimson fires, levitating as the flames danced around the sides, some venturing farther than others. The room smelled of herbs, but all the different odours seemed to blend into one, sweet, sweet smell that filled up her nose and felt a calm and cozy feeling take over her.

She walked over to the group, taking place near Carson as she shot shy looks at the group, not knowing if Carson had told anyone about them. There arms were touching and Charlotte looked at him with a sweet, warm smile as she put her wand down beside her. Rolling up her sleeves just like Maggie had done a few moments ago, she turned around to see if there was any sign of a professor.

'I'm so sorry. I keep being late these days, it's gotta stop... So, erm - candle-making?'
she said, clearing her voice rapidly.

Charlotte realised she hadn't had much of an opportunity to talk to Euphrasia much, barely at all to be perfectly honest. Her name intrigued Charlotte as it reminded her very much of a name from Les Misérables, but it could have been from anything else, nonetheless she wanted to know.

'Millie, what is your name from? It's pretty unique. Did you know my second name is Euphrasie? That's quite a coincidence. My third name is Apolline, wow that's a lot of names... Do you guys have second names?'
she blurted out, a little annoyed at herself for speaking so much.

This felt a lot less boring than she had intended and she felt rather happy about it. It gave them the opportunity to catch up and talk about everything, and nothing at the same time, joke around and talk about the future, the professors and the new first years, Maggie's surely upcoming parties, Hallowe'en costumes, everything really.

'Have you told them about - us, yet?'
she said as she whispered in Carson's ear as discreelty as possible.

“I— we’re— it’s—” Carson stammered, his face growing a little red in response to Millie’s question. He looked down to his hands, busting himself with making candles and avoiding the question.

He didn’t know what it was— she was his girlfriend, right? Hopefully. What if she didn’t— no, that couldn’t be. Right?

Carson lifted his head at the sound of the classroom door opening, relieved and thankful for his savior. When he recognized the pretty face walking through the door, however, his eyes widened ever-so-slightly, and he took a large gulp. Due to his distracted state, he wasn’t able to focus on the candle-making, and he accidentally dipped his finger into the wax.

“Shit!” he cursed, quickly wiping the wax off on his sweatshirt and sucking his finger. It hurt, and reminded Carson of when he’d burned his hand on hot glue, expect much worse.

Charlotte sat down next to Carson, their elbows brushing and causing his heart to beat a little bit faster. He glanced over towards her, his eyes resting on her face for a bit too long. He only realized he’d been zoning out when Charlotte was looking at him, as if she’d just asked a question.

“Wha—” he cleared his throat, looking away from Charlotte and to the cauldron. Sending a quick glance towards Maggie and Millie, he could guess what her question was.

“Yeah, um, I haven’t— quite yet. Are you cool with me telling them?”

Maggie snickered slightly when Carson and Millie began to tear each other— she was glad they were all close friends. Both of their statements were completely true, as well, even if they didn’t want anyone else knowing yet.

“Speak of the devil,” Maggie joked, waving at Charlotte as she walked in. “My second name is Elizabeth— it’s whatever, yours is really pretty though.” Maggie answered, feeling slightly amused at Charlotte’s awkwardness. She’d never really seen this side of her cousin before— she liked it.

“It is so unfair that you got all of the cultured parts of the family, Char. My dad never really embraced his French heritage, per se, and my mum is Irish.” Maggie joked, noticing how Charlotte cuddled up next to Carson. Her, and everyone else’s, suspicions were correct.

“We were just talking— Millie and I think you and Carson would make a great couple— looks like you already beat us to it, though.” Maggie teased, smirking mischievously at the pair. What? If she didn’t tease her best friend and her cousin for getting together, she wouldn’t be Maggie Parker, would she be?

She shot a shit-eating grin at Millie, her eyebrows raised as the pair sputtered a little. She was glad they were all friends, it made it easier for them to comfortable around eachother— aka tease eachother.

The sound of the clacking of her boots filled the hallway as she ran towards the classroom. Her heart was pounding in her chest and all she could think was, "RUN, RUN, YOU'RE SO LATE, GO GO GO!!!!" A few students who were casually walking down the halls gave her weird looks, but she was already to stressed about being late to care about their opinion. The blonde girl didn't even care about the fact she was wearing some of her most casual clothes, still had her glasses on, and her hair was a mess due to the fact she forgot to brush it. Luckily for her, she always had an extra brush in her messenger bag at all times.

She almost ran past the door, but skidded to a stop before she did. She decided to catch her breath in front of the room, panting with little drops of sweat dripping down her face. This room was pretty far from the slytherin common room. She smelled many different scents coming from inside the classroom, and heard some of her friends chatting inside. There was Maggie, Carson, Charlotte, and Millie, and she could hear all of their voices. "Of course I'm last!" She wiped some sweat from her brow and suddenly became very consciens of her appearance. She quickly brushed her hair before walking in.

Candles were scattered all over the room and their was a nice warm glow coming from the fireplace. Sylvie couldn't help but smile when she entered.

“We were just talking— Millie and I think you and Carson would make a great couple— looks like you already beat us to it, though.”

"Wait, couple? Who?" Sylvie exclaimed looking over to the group. She asked who, but in reality it was pretty obvious who Maggie was talking about. The two of them we're literally joined at the arm, and Sylvie had to admit, they looked pretty cute. She giggled and made her way closer to the group. "So... when did this happen!?"
