Poor Maisie... Emily couldn't take watching her get hit the way she was. She actually felt relieved when her Flipendo missed her. The little birdie was barely standing at this point. It was a miracle her body was even still functioning.

But everyone on that piste knew what was coming. Readying herself for one final cast, whether she was successful next time or not, Emily was ready to end this.

Afterwards, she'd make sure to let Maisie know how much she respected her perseverance because by God, was it admirable.

Underneath the blindfold, Maisie didn't know what exactly was happening. All she could hear was the flying of spells around her—and the gut punch of one in particular.

But there was one thing no one, not even she, expected: when the dust settled and the darkness faded, she pulled up on her elbows and stood up. A cough or two and misplaced footstep passed, but there was no denying as the blood rushed back up towards her head, Maisie still had more to give.

Somewhere in the distance, she heard Raizel's voice: “Will you look at that?”

And in the silence that seemed to surround them in that moment, as she clutched her wand (hoping it was pointed in the correct direction), there was beating within her a single truth: and still, I rise.

Raizel hoped that Maisie would still be standing at the end of this duel. She had been doing so well when it came to surviving, making it this far despite looking like a single flick could knock her down to the ground. Blindfold was still on, still an easy target for the badgers before her. They are doing their best to send her to the Hospital Wing where she could join her other teammates who had already been taken to that place. She watched with interest as the final round approached.

Spells were fired.

One of those, however, decided to spice things up like this whole duel wasn’t that eventful already. Emily found herself taking another failed spell but this time, she didn’t set herself on fire. No, it was a lot worse. While Raizel expected for the medics to carry Maisie Gemmell once she was unconscious, Emily was a surprise addition. The girl was already on the verge of unconsciousness though so perhaps it wasn’t supposed to be that surprising and that was her second spell backfire. In any case, she was down.

Despite being blindfolded, Maisie tried to avoid the rest of the Flipendo going her way, blindly moving, hoping of not getting hit by the remaining ones. It worked at first, completely avoiding one of those but her luck would run out eventually and when it did, it hit her hard enough to knock her out, finally putting her out of her misery. And that was that, the end of the duel. Quite an ending if you ask her. “Duel Over! Hufflepuff Wins!”
