Leonard's eyes were wide open as Lamik told his story. In his chest started brewing a spark of something like burning loyalty, who had the gall to hurt people this way? Lamik seemed kind and friendly, enough to answer questions of kids younger than him (if only by a year), and someone had managed this.
"Were they expelled?" He decided to make it his mission to make sure the forest was safe from evil students, and if this person was against that mission he'd take action.
The idea of hurting people made his stomach turn, not because he'd be bad at it (though he would, definitely, seeing as he was on the shorter side, for his age) but because it just seemed cruel and awful, and someone doing that on purpose was almost unthinkable.
He looked at Lamik, and he saw him retreating. "I didn't mean to make you sad, I'm sorry." He rifled through his pockets until he found inside some chocolate Amelia had hidden for him behind Aunt Mary's back. It would be enough to share between the three, if they wanted to do that, but it wasn't a super big chocolate. He offered it wordlessly, not finding any accurate words in this language for what he meant by it.

Bree was not at all amused anymore. Any excitement had turned into pure fear - she was never one for gore. She had mimicked Lamik's pose by the end of it, her first pressed hard against her mouth. So hard, in fact, that she was leaving teeth marks against her inner lips. It really was impossible for her to believe that he had witnessed this as just a first year. Wizards in her life were good people - her mother, her grandparents, her uncles and aunts. And yet, there was so much more she had to learn. She saw that she and Lamik had taken the same pose, and felt a little relief that maybe Leonard could calm the situation down with some chocolate. She wanted to be brave like the other two boys and she swallowed hard, her voice tiny despite the intention. "That's really horrible, I can't believe that happened and you had to see it... You don't have to talk about it anymore, I'm really sorry for pushing you."
She hadn't meant it to go this way, perhaps she just thought a light hearted conversation about spells gone awry would come about. This was above her pay grade. Nonetheless, she looked on at the boy sympathetically, hoping he could feel her compassion rather than her fear.

Lamik looked between the two first years wordlessly, seeming to focus on nothing in particular. He had told the story several times, but it never failed to do this. To shut him down. To bring him back to that day where he was in real danger for the first time in his life. Lamik knew that retelling it always would- it would have to. Something so horrible couldn't possibly just fade away into a full memory, could it? No, it was more then likely that the scene would stick around like a spider on its web, just waiting for a weakness- a fly- to get itself trapped and exposed.

Duty outweighed fear at that moment, and Lamiks eyes focused back on the other students and smiled his usual smile again, seeming to suddenly and impossibly change attitudes. Though he didn't really have any actual duties, Lamik did feel some sense of responsibility to ensure that Bree and Leonard managed to fit in and live comfortably at Hogwarts. "That was an extremely rare event though." He said, rubbing at the hem of his robe as if once again trying to remove a stain. "I'm sure you'll both be fine- the professors really are great at ensuring that people are safe. I promise. And keep the chocolate, Leonard. You're gonna want all the energy you can get on your first day. Hogwarts really is a magical place to be in."

I'm sorry for taking so long to respond! I've been really busy studying for my engineering degree. Hopefully I'll have more time from now on.
