Edward waited patiently as he set up the blank character sheets, the quills and ink pens, the printed copies of character sheets his uncle had printed in a printer before his father had enchanted, the sets of dice each set a different solid color. In front of each seat at the table in the great hall was a quill, an inkpot, the paper, dice, and a blank looking metal figure which was colorless. They were all apart of his gifts from his uncle and his father, the MacHugh Brothers having worked together in their own talents. Three copies of the Players Handbook, two copies of the monster manual, and one copy of the Dungeon master’s guide lay stacked at his left hand and a plain parchment scroll with grid marks drawn on it with computer accuracy lay ahead of him.
This was not just regular Dungeon’s and Dragons. The letter included with the gift from his father and his uncle was clear that they had done several enchantments on the equipment to play the game and those would all come out clear when the game began.
“If it begins.” This might just be a wash, the dark brown haired, icy blue eyed young man thought to himself as he waited patiently for someone, anyone to show up to his broad invitation towards the entire school to show up for the scheduled game now that there were no classes or a meal or anything else to distract people. Anything but studying, playing with their friends, exploring the grounds, he was underestimating the amount of things to do at Hogwarts at the moment.
There was a backpack full of snacks he had left over after having bribed a few particularly helpful kitchen elves to deliver a flier to the top of the trunks or foot of the beds of every single student. That had been the deal he had made with the House Elves, paying them with the remainder of his grandmother’s deviled eggs for their help if they did it.
Now it was just a matter of waiting and hoping that someone was willing to try out what he had described on the fliers he had written by hand as “Wizards Chess meets Dungeons and Dragons.” It had been a simple set of fliers, with the information and that they only needed to bring their imaginations and enthusiasm. It had even had rudimentary dragons and other monsters drawn on them, with each stack of fliers having different monsters on them.

Adrian was walking around the great hall, checking things pinned onto the noticeboards that might interest her. At least that's what it looks like. In actuality though, she's just walking around without a particular goal in her mind. She was bored, absolutely bored. There was nothing to do. Classes weren't due to start for a whole week. Something about letting them get used to the 'environment' or whatever. She's bored, and she never gets bored! Usually she would be exploring the forest at this time, discovering whatever nature has to offer. But here at Hogwarts? You can't even go into the forbidden forest, 'cause its forbidden and dangerous'. It sucks.
Then she saw someone. Edward MacHugh to be exact. She watched him set up some sort of game? She certainly hasn't seen anything like it. Probably a muggle game. Then she remembered the flier innocently sitting on her trunk earlier. She took it out from her pocket, "Wizards Chess meet Dungeons and Dragons". She didn't know what it was, dungeons? But the dragons part had caught her eye. There was even a cute little dragon drawn on the corner there! It looked to be a cross between a Hungarian Horntail and a Norwegian Ridgeback, and it was just soooooo adorable.
So, she made her way to where Edward was sitting, there were quills and scrolls with a tube thing that contains what looked to be ink? Is that what they call a 'pen'? She thought to herself. She shook her head and continued her way until she was standing in front of Edward. She waved, "Hey! I saw this flier of yours and decided to come and join you! What's 'Dungeons and Dragons'? Is it a game? How do you play it? Cool dragon drawing by the way, I love it!"

DnD night at Darren's had free food, and free drinks. Just as long as you're willing to spend a few hours playing the game. A few meaning about twelve, sometimes it'd run for two days straight. Elena showed up an hour early like she was meant to be there, and left when everyone else did however long later.
This meant, that out of all the pop culture she'd missed, DnD was something she was not only used to but experienced with. So Elena dropped her satchel bag down on the bench and looked at the shoddy crowd that'd showed up already. Glancing between them, "I ain't particularly sure why you're mixing the best roleplaying game of all time with a bastardised version of the best game of all time, where the pieces yell at you. Chess is the game of kings and emperors, and I won't take kindly any disagreement but I suppose I'm here aren't I. We doing Eberron and Strahd alterations? Artificers allowed? What're your views on homebrew content. We doing fifth edition at all?"
Elena flopped down on the bench and started digging through for her cards to fidget with, it was folk superstition that made her keep shuffling them, but superstition is a powerful thing.

Serena slowly walked towards the Great Hall, a small flier in her left hand and her bag hanging from her right arm. Normally by this time she would be studying for the next day, but today was different. She had found the flier on the foot of her bed, being quite curious of it, and that's why she was out today. She was in deep thought regarding the flier in her hand, thinking to herself, "What's Dungeons and Dragons? Is it some sort of physically challenging course, but then why would we meet in the Great Hall? Might as well find out by asking." She walked into the great hall, but when she already saw someone there aggressively questioning the boy with his set up, she got seriously nervous.
Slowing a little as Serena approached the boy at the table, hoping the girl wouldn't get aggressive against her if she even breathed while she was questioning the boy, it wouldn't be the first time something like that happened to Serena, and she hated it. She walked up to where the boy was, trying to be as far away from the aggressive girl as she could, clearing her throat before saying, "Hi." in a confident voice, or at least as confident as she could make it, which wasn't that much unfortunately.

Edward was very good at psyching himself out if giving too much time. The eleven year old boy sat there as he waited telling himself that perhaps the House Elves did not deliver the fliers. Perhaps people looked at it and thought it was stupid. Perhaps people thought the drawing he had done of a dragon or other creatures from the game on them was too rudimentary and thus laughable. The dark brown haired Gryffindor tapped his fingers against the table he had set up on in the great hall and was practically drumming in cadence by the time he was finished doing it.
By the time he saw Adrian, he needed the relief of seeing a somewhat familiar face and fellow Gryffindor first-year. When his fledgling friend told him what she did, he simply smiled and waited until she was done talking before he replied, “It’s a game yes, a muggle one normally but my dad and uncle made some modifications. I’m glad you decided to join me, you play it by deciding what you’re character is going to do, and rolling dice to get to a target number set either by the game’s rules or the dungeon master, basically. You also compete against non-player characters controlled by the dungeon master, in this case me, in battles or other things and sometimes roll to see who gets the higher success in an action- like Athletics vs. Athletics for running through the streets of a city.” he had almost explained more, and likely made himself and the game seem over complicated, but that was when the proverbial save came from the arrival of the Slytherin second year.
Edward tried to not look jealous, he had hoped to get into Slytherin or Ravenclaw initially after all and had not exactly made a lot of friends in Gryffindor to make him happy with the choice that the sorting hat had made, but he took a long glance at the blue haired Slytherin before the boy tilted his head towards his notes.
“And to be fair Dungeons and Dragons can be the game of anything and anything depending on the party and their aspirations.” he said, at the accusation of bastardizing two games at once. “But I didn’t combine the two anyways. My dah and uncle did.” all the figures looked very blank slate, almost like steel versions of army men without features or weapons at the moment, but there was an enchantment to them.
“As far as options, homebrew is fine depending on what it is but given the nature of playing here it’d probably not be something I’d get into immediately as we might have players who don’t know a lot about Dungeons and Dragons. Strahd options are allowed.” he pulled out the book, with the vampire upon it, Curse of Strahd, from his bag. He was surprised anyone even knew about it and other options like that to be honest! “Artificers are allowed, it’s one of the few interesting options for intelligence stat characters other than wizards, and wizards might be a liiiiiiitttle unpopular of a choice here, either because it’s unrealistic- or because a farmer doesn’t wanna roleplay a farmer.”
At which point his table’s third came, and Edward instinctively reached to rub the back of his head. He listened to her questions but if that was one of the ones he had heard off of the bat, then what would it be like later? None the less, he gave as friendly a smile as he could and began answering her questions. “It’s a game, like Wizard’s Chess or Backgammon or I guess playing make believe. You use your imagination and that of your friends, combined with some dice and rules written to balance the game and make it challenging.” he pointed to the stack of books, “To determine the success of your attempted actions and to determine what else happens.”
Then the boy looked sheepishly to each of them. Could he properly teach a group of at least two newcomers to the game and the concept of it how to play it and enjoy it? Yes, yes he could. There was no point in being afraid, he was a Gryffindor, he should be courageous in all things.
He then pulled out some snacks, muggle sodas and saran wrapped brownies from his mother, and offered his potential new friends each one of them. You couldn't very well have Dungeons and Dragons without snacks!

OOC: Sorry for the wait, got busy with IRL things for a few days and also was kind of waiting to see if another person would reply yet. If they join us as we go in, cool. If not that's cool too! Once again sorry for the wait and thanks for considering the option of telling our characters attempting at playing dungeons and dragons.
