❂《 ⌜ February 2, 2025 ▎ After Dinner ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Raizel’s mind was buzzing with questions that she didn't know the answer to. She already had a lot of things in mind and now there were more to add to it. It was all she could think about even during dinner. Unbelievable, as what she would say. She had spent most of her time staring at her plate rather than eating. No, more like glaring even as if the plate did something wrong to her when it was totally innocent and didn’t do anything. If people were concerned over her sudden hostility towards a silverware during that time, she must’ve missed it due to her being too occupied in her own mind. Minutes, hours, eating a bit and then going back to glaring, that was the only thing she could remember. She doesn’t even remember that well on how she ended up in this corridor and walking back to their dorm.
Luckily, she wasn’t alone. Meyra, her step-cousin, was with her, saving her from the possibility of ending up somewhere else other than their common room. It happens. While the number of times it did have lessened compared to when she was still a first year, it still happens. The brief silence was welcomed by the older Gryffindor, the Great Hall being too noisy and overwhelming for her this time due to whatever was running in that mind of hers. It was a good time to clear her mind and maybe back in their dorm, she could sleep peacefully and forget about a couple of things for now.
“Hey, have you heard? We have a new Prefect!”
So much for peace…
Truth be told, that was what Raizel wanted to forget about, what she didn't want to think about. Well, it would've been fine. Everyone would be curious on who the heck is the new Gryffindor Prefect after the previous one had stepped down. If only that said Prefect wasn’t her. Yes, it was her. The new Prefect was her. For some reason, they accepted a troublemaker like her. While she only had one detention under her belt, she had gotten into a few situations where she had broken some rules like fighting someone and there is her questionable hobby of duelling almost everyone before. She was a frequent client of the hospital wing due to her own reckless behaviour,
How could someone like that be a Prefect?
“Uh, yeah, I’m the new Prefect.” Raizel said nonchalantly as she walked alongside her cousin, hands inside her jacket’s pockets, tired brown eyes looking ahead of them. She didn’t even realize she blurted it out after only a couple of seconds. She grumbled before looking at Meyra to see her reaction. To be honest, she wouldn't blame her if she didn’t believe her. She, too, wouldn't believe it herself.

Date: 2nd February | After dinner"Yes I agree with you." Meyra replied to the other Gryffindor sitting in front of her, "If you want to go to the astronomy tower, I would advise you to ask professor Starwise's permission first." She nodded to the boy, as a way to emphasise the veracity of her next words, "I heard he once threw some students of his tower for breaking the rules!" Meyra shrugged with a smirk, "Better be careful right?" She laugh softly at the disbelief that spread across the boy's features. Yup, she probably ended up ruining his good night plans!
"What about you Rai," She started to ask her cousin that was sitting next to her, "What are yo..." But her words drowned into the background noise and completely extinguished before the end of her sentence, as she noticed the murderous way Raizel was looking at the plate in front of her. If it were her own food, Mey would not have dared to continue eating, as it would certainly already be burdened with an incurable curse. "Are...are you okay?" Meyra asked concerned, but her cousin gave her no answer, as if she had not heard a single word of what she had hesitantly said to her.
As soon as Raizel got up from the long wooden bench, Meyra decided to follow her immediately. In a hurry, she took a last forkful of food to her mouth, grabbed a pumpkin pastry and left the Great Hall following in her cousin's footsteps. "Rai wait!" Meyra called for her, before she was finally able to walk by her side. "What happened?" She asked, but Raizel kept her silence, like she was completely lost in her own mind. "Rai yo..." Mey started again, but was interrupted as she had to pull Raizel closer to her so the third year Gryffindor wouldn't bump into a group of other students passing by. "So sorry!" Meyra apologised, "It was the food. She's not feeling well!" She threw at them over her shoulder as she kept walking in order to not miss her step-cousin.
"Oookayyy...so," Meyra tried again, clearing her throat, "Hey, have you heard? We have a new Prefect!" She asked in a jovial tone, hoping it was a topic that would snap Raizel out of her dazed state.
Meyra waited, glancing at Raizel from the corner of her eye and then quickly leaning forward a little to take a look at Rai's expression and to try to get her friend's attention, "Yo..." She started to speak again, but this time it was Raizel's voice that interrupted her.
“Uh, yeah, I’m the new Prefect.” Raizel said casually before letting out a grunt and finally looking at her. Meyra's mouth was open, in a mixture of shock and surprise. She looked into her friend's tired gaze searching for the truth in her brown eyes, but whatever she saw in them wasn't enough to make her believe what she had just heard. Meyra's smile slowly began to spread across her face and turned into a soft chuckle, "Yeah right!" She answered, "You almostcaught me with that one!" She told Raizel, shaking her head in disbelief and amusement.

❂《 ⌜ February 2, 2025 ▎ After Dinner ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Of course, that's what she would say, the older Gryffindor thought before sighing, going back into staring to the path ahead of them with the same tired expression as before. Again, she wouldn't blame her for not believing her but at the same time, doesn't that suck? While she had accepted the fact that she was no Prefect material for so many reasons that were mentioned before, surely there was a part of her that was fitting for the role. Why else would she have been picked? Not enough candidates for the role? Actually, maybe that's the reason. “But what if I really am the new Prefect?” Raizel asked with a mischievous and taunting grin, one that Meyra should be familiar with.
In a way, she was curious on why her step-cousin wouldn't believe her while also preparing for the worse for it. If there was someone who would know what kind of person Raizel was, Meyra was one of the closest ones to ever see her true personality. Both of them were in the same house, the same dorm and shared the same table during breakfast, lunch and dinner. They literally see each other almost everyday despite being in different years. “Break a rule and I might give you a detention.” While she did say that with a joking tone, there was a bit of seriousness mixed in them. If she does catch her cousin breaking rules, she will probably hand her out a detention. Then again, giving out detention seems to be too much work so if possible, she’d turn a blind eye on them unless necessary. So much for someone wanting to be an Auror in the future.
“What do you know about the new Prefect anyway?” She asked before yawning, wanting to get to their dorms faster so she could flop down on her bed and sleep. But with all seriousness, she wasn't expecting much of an answer about that. Even if people knew who this new Prefect was, the ones that she'll get are those much like hers, questioning the choices that were made during the selection process. Questioning looks, mutterings behind her back, heck, if people confront her about it, saying that she bribed her way for the position, she won't be surprised by it. Someone like her wasn't deserving of it.

Date: 2nd February | After dinnerMeyra watched her cousin closely, as she saw the smirk and the mischievous glint in the older Gryffindor's eyes. She knew that expression too well, at least her question had brought that spirit back to Raizel instead of her previous state of slumber. However, that expression had so much of amusement as it had of danger, it was always a gamble whether the best option would be to push her or run away from her.
"If you are the new prefect," Meyra started to ask, while keep walking, "Then why didn't you tell me before I ask you about it huh?" She asked giving her own "I'm-to-smart" smile to Raizel, "Why would you be so...out of spirit, if that was the case?" Meyra chuckled, shaking her head not believing her cousin for one second.
“Break a rule and I might give you a detention.”
Meyra stopped...
Slowly, she turned on her heel and faced Raizel, "Are you joking right now?" She asked. Because, to be fair, that tone of voice left her with some doubts. But why would Raizel be the new prefect and keep it a secret from her until she was actually the one approaching the topic? Meyra crossed her arms in front of her chest and tilted her head while observing her step-cousin and all her sudden challenging demeanour, "What I know...is that if it was you, I would trust you would have told me sooner! But...FINE!" She answered, with a devilish smile.
Meyra reached into her satchel and grabbed the charcoal pencil she always carried with her for her drawings. With determination on her feet she walked towards the closest wall and started to write:

"There you have it!" Meyra said, turning again towards Raizel, all boldness and definitely too much self-confidence scattered all of her features, "Now please give me a detention Miss...prefect!"

❂《 ⌜ February 2, 2025 ▎ After Dinner ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Meyra's question was a valid one. Why, indeed, did she not tell her anything about it? First of all, it was hard to believe. Maybe she was being delusional and she had only imagined becoming Prefect as part of her imagination. That Prefect badge resting inside her pocket could just be a gobstone ready to spray her with its horrifying smelly liquid once she takes it out and shows it to her step-cousin. “Eh, there wasn't much to talk about that.” To her, it was a title that she wasn't sure whether it was something that she deserved, something that she could say out loud and proud when all she ever had been was being a failure and a troublemaker. Her being so out of it ever since she became Gryffindor Prefect was how it showed.
Then again, she couldn't even remember she signed up for it when it opened up. She had heard about it but she had no intention of taking up a position that she knew she didn't deserve. So at first, there was nothing to say to Meyra. But at some point in her life, she did try her luck with it. A miracle is what happened. She hadn't been this lucky and she wishes that this luck would've just hit her during a race or a duel. She would've appreciated it more instead of ending up with this position. And as the thought filled her head, she just… forgot.
“No? I’m not joking.” Raizel continued, again, being half-serious and half-joking, clearly enjoying the confusion that she was giving her cousin. Her eyes were on Meyra's when she noticed her stare, simply showing the same mischievous grin on her face despite the lack of energy once she had noticed she was observing her demeanor. After a while, Meyra decided to challenge her credibility. Raizel watched her figure as she walked up to the wall, scribbling something: Two letters with a heart in between. It took her another closer look to realize what it meant but instead of reacting the same way she did back in the Quidditch Training Pitch, she simply laughed it off. “Still on about this?” She asked, pulling out her wand and pointing it at the scribbled wall. “Scourgify.” It was almost instant. The moment she performed the spell, the scribbles disappeared. She kept her wand away, shoving her hands back into her pockets.
“It's not like that between us, you know.” She wanted to clear things up between them this time. Zach was a friend, a close friend and she’d rather not ruin that image of them and imply other things to other people. “I assure you that, I have other reasons and you don't have to bother yourself with them. I don't want you getting dragged into it.” Her expression changed when she spoke, almost dark. Even her tone shifted into a low sounding one. Getting help from others has always been so hard for her. It was easier to give than to receive. It didn't take too long for her to go back to that grin when she turned her face back to Meyra. It was easy to put on the mask, something that she had gotten used to for doing so for months now. “Anyway, simply scribbling is not gonna land you in detention… at least, not on my watch.” Well, not like she had read the rules yet. She had before but she had forgotten about most of them at this point for she didn't care for most of them. She's more of a rule breaker than a rule follower.
“You have to do worse than that.” How else could she make Meyra believe that she was, indeed, the new Prefect? She wondered about that for a few seconds before she started walking. Well, she doesn't need to, right? Keep the element of surprise to make the revelation fun, shocking. “Or maybe… yeah, maybe I’ll have you clean the common rooms early in the morning.” Was she power tripping? Perhaps but at the same time, she just wanted to mess with Meyra. That was considered vandalism. “Guess I’ll have to prepare that letter for your detention now.” She said nonchalantly.

You Are What Now?

Date: 2nd February | After dinner“Still on about this?” Raizel laughed dismissively when she saw what Meyra had written on one of the stones on the wall of the old corridor. "Well...you haven't denied it properly yet!" Mey replied in return with taunting manners as she witnessed Raizel easily clean her scribbles using the Scouring Charm. That actually reminded her that she needed to spend more time training her own spells... she was nothing but a walking disaster with a wand! "You seriously need to tell me how to do that..." She told Raizel in a mutter, seeing the coal stain disappear from the wall.
Meyra began to raise her eyebrows in silent questioning at first, not believing what Raizel was telling her. "Not like that between us... Yeah, right!" She thought, smirking at that. But Rai's next words made her expression transfigurate into concern, her green eyes narrowed slightly at the implications she could hear between the lines. "What do you mean you don't want to drag me into it?" She asked quite demandingly. It had been her first guess, that something wasn't right, something had been bothering her cousin for some time, and for some reason, Raizel had been hiding and avoiding talking about it. "Drag me into what exactly?" Meyra pressed on, "Rai, we're family, you can trust me...what happened? Let me help you."
Again, that grin, a grin that Meyra now saw as a mask as it didn't felt quite right, spread across Raizel's features. Mey met it with a frown, not matching Rai's light-hearted spirit. "Right." The younger lion shot in a harsher tone, as she felt the issue being dismissed by Raizel when the other changed the subject back to her faint attempt of vandalism. "I have to do worse than damaging school property?" Meyra asked doubtfully, "Should I make one of the armours dance instead then?" She continued, taking out her wand and pointing it at the copper guardians in the hallway. But she didn't cast the spell, not yet...
Meyra looked more intently at Raizel, her mouth slightly open in a mix of uncertainty and disbelief, as the other started to throw detention threats at her. "Are...are you serious?" Meyra asked incredulous. She was kind of used to her cousin's mischievous nature. But was she trying to provoke her into getting into serious trouble this time, or was there a grain of truth to all that teasing? Meyra dropped the arm holding the wand to her side, "If you are a prefect, as you say, let me see your badge!" She demanded again, crossing her arms in front of her chest and looking at Raizel waiting to be proven right in her assumptions.

❂《 ⌜ February 2, 2025 ▎ After Dinner ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔“Well, you can keep scribbling and I can keep showing it to you.” Raizel chuckled but that quickly died down as she realized how she had let herself slip again with how she said things to her. Raizel cursed in her mind. How could she do that? While the last time she did, Meyra simply took it as something else like her going to the hospital wing just to see Zach. That would've been better if she were to be honest but she would need to apologize to Zach after dragging him into that kind of rumour. “Nothing.” The older Gryffindor said, looking away and kept on walking, trying to ignore her step-cousin’s demands to know what was up.
She doesn't need to know, Raizel refused to let her know anything about it and besides, it was not worth anyone else's trouble aside from herself. That feeling of being so weak and powerless. That desperation for progress that she had been longing for so long. She wouldn't want Meyra to know that her cousin turned out to be the biggest loser, a disappointment in their family, a half-blood cursed to never be good enough for anything. “Don't worry about it. It's nothing.” Raizel only paused when she heard Meyra ask what she should be doing worse than writing on a wall, turning her head to face the nearby armor that she just threatened to cast a spell on. “Can you?” She asked, again, with the same challenging grin. She wouldn't actually give her detention, not this time anyway. Whatever Meyra does in response to all her taunting, she will turn a blind eye on.
Raizel has her own selfish reason for it and that's for the topic to move away from her slip up. If she could just get Meyra to focus on this whole prefect thing, then she would be able to make her forget whatever she had mentioned. So when Meyra let her arm rest on her side instead of casting a spell, Raizel was disappointed. But not all was lost. Her cousin was still onto the Prefect topic and this time, demanding to see the badge, the symbol of authority that she knew she shouldn't be holding. There was a brief pause and a moment of silence. It should've been easy to show her but it was something that the older Gryffindor was still coming into terms with.
Does she have the right to show this with pride when she knows damn well how it doesn't fit her?
Raizel sighed, reaching into her pocket before looking back at Meyra. She flicked the small badge into the air before catching it and then showing it. It rests between her thumb and index finger, that prefect badge that she thought could only be worn by the elites, the rule-abiding students, not by a rule-breaker and a troublemaker like her. “Here, have a closer look.” She said before tossing it towards Meyra. Whether she caught it or dropped on the ground, it would still be easy to get it back or even find it. “And that is not fake, I assure you. Are you ready for your detention tomorrow?” She laughed. Again, she was merely joking.
