As the island of Minami Iwo Jima - the very island on which Mahoutokoro is located - was declared a nature reserve by the Japanese government, mumajin, or non-magical people, are rarely allowed to go there. If and when they are, it is strictly during specifically scheduled times during the summer for the sole purpose of research regarding the island's flora and fauna.

The palace housing the school of Mahoutokoro is often shrouded in clouds because it is found on the highest point of the island of Minami Iwo Jima. It is currently considered a classic Japanese castle despite having been remodeled in the late fifteenth century, consisting of a main palace that connects to two smaller buildings, an enormous Japanese garden that is woven in and around the complex, and two tall towers behind the main palace.

Home to a great deal of magical flora and fauna that you won't find anywhere else on the island is the expansive Japanese garden that expands within and around the palace complex. Here, not only do students walk, seek solace from stressful school days, and study when the weather is nice, but from their second year onwards, they also take elective classes that are taught outdoors in the gardens. There is also a pathway through the gardens to get from the main palace to the two smaller buildings (the day school and the recreational building for clubs, private study groups, indoor sports practices, etc.) on the ground floor if one does not wish to use the hallway connecting the buildings to the palace.

Thus, almost every Japanese student attending Mahoutokoro inevitably comes across, interacts with, or at least sees the gardens nearly daily and it is a very important part of student and even staff life at the magic school. It is for this reason that the Gardening Club at Mahoutokoro is one of the most crucial clubs the school funds and maintains. In may, in fact, be one of the most important and magical school gardening club in all of Japan.

Would you care to be a part of it? If so, please read on to join the prestigious, magnificent Mahoutokoro's Gardening Club.
