A friend for someone lonely Pet

(forward dated to easter break)
Lottie was getting lonely. Not like she had even really tried to make any friends, Lottie had done a great job of hiding from everyone, however, now she was getting lonely. Like really lonely. The nerves of being in a new place on her own were starting to dull down, and while her shyness would probably never allow for her to ever walk up to someone and start a conversation that could lead up to a friendship, she was starting to get bolder and now spent her free time doing her puzzles and writing letters in the common room instead of hidden away in her dorm. Because no one knew who she was, Lottie found she could be like a fly on the wall in her common room; people didn't even notice that she was sitting there, or they didn't care.

But being the fly on the wall was also really lonely. Lottie had started writing more letters than she ever had, sending out up to three a day to her family with bits of gossip she head heard in the common room, or with updates about even the tiniest things in her daily life, like the tragedy that the last of her favourite biscuits was stolen out from under her nose at breakfast, or that she forgot to unpack a baggie of snacks, and they had gone bad in one of her robe's pockets.

Lottie's family was getting tired of getting so many letters; after all, they were getting a lot of owls flying in daily, and they were spending a lot of paper for Lottie just to send it back to them with only a few words on it. It had been her sister, Katie's, idea that maybe Lottie was lonely. Her family had then come up with the idea that maybe a pet would be a good idea for Lottie. They had debated getting her an owl; that way, the school owls could have a rest, but they had realized Lottie would probably end up writing so much more that the owl would never get a break. They had wondered if she would enjoy a ferret; however, the smell of the ferret would probably not be something Lottie would enjoy (Which is true), and in the end, they chose to adopt a cat from the local muggle shelter.

So when Lottie got off the Hogwarts Express to go home for the break, she was pleasantly surprised to see not only her family waiting but also a small little orange kitten. The kitten was tiny and had a green bow that was almost as big as him. Lottie looked from her Mother to her father to each of her sisters before rushing to the kitten's carrier.
"OH. MY. GOODNESS!" She almost squealed as she opened the cage door and picked up the kitten carefully. He squirmed a little, but he was purring, so Lottie figured he was happy.
Tears started to fall to the floor as she hugged the cat. Her mother and father looked at each other and shared a look that said they knew they had made the right choice.

"We thought that maybe you could take the kitten to school at the end of break and then you'd have someone to talk to," her mother said with a smile.
"Yeah, so you don't keep using so much paper," Katie added with a friendly smirk. Lottie pushed her sister gently. It felt good to be back with her family, even if only for a short time.
"Your little Kitten doesn't have a name yet." Her father said as they walked towards the car.

Lottie paused for a minute. "I think I'll name him Ajax," She said with a big smile.
"A big name for a little kitten," Her mother commented as they all put on their seatbelts, with Ajax already curled up on Lottie's lap. "We are going to stay at a hotel for the night, We thought it might be extra fun for the family to have a little getaway!" Her father said as he started to pull the car out of the parking lot.

The next morning, Lottie was up early and ready to go. She was super excited to go to the Magical Menagerie with her Mother and get some supplies and toys for Ajax.

Shortly after, her mother woke up, and soon, they were entering the Magical Menegerie. Lottie knew that she wanted to get a collar for Ajax and that he would want a bed, so she grabbed a couple of collars so that Ajax could always be in style.
"Woah, remember that we don't have a money tree growing in our backyard," Her mother reminded her quietly when Lottie tried to convince her that Ajax most definitely needed a magical cat bed.
"But mom..." Lottie whined, a sad attempt at convincing he mother. However, it seemed the matter was settled already. "Listen, you can get a cat bed from a muggle store and use Dad's money for it instead."
Lottie gave in. "Ajax will be sad without the bed." She murmured as she put it back.
"Well, when you have a job that makes you rich with wizarding money, then you can spoil Ajax all you want." Her mother walked towards the counter and smiled at the elderly lady behind the counter. "This will be all for today."
Lottie knew that her mother was just teasing and that even though she was already told no, her mother would eventually cave in and buy it for her on her birthday or for Christmas.
"besides, I'm sure Ajax will have a big enough surprise when he goes to hogwarts." Her mother said as they left the building, shopping bag in hand.
"True, I guess coming from a muggle world will be a big change for him." Lottie agreed.
